Join the Screening, Discussion, and Exhibition Walkthrough event at The Bronx Museum of the Arts to celebrate the closing weekend of Michael Richards: Are You Down? This special event will feature a documentary film screening, followed by a discussion and exhibition walkthrough. The 30-minute documentary, titled Are You Down?, directed by Juan Matos and Dennis Scholl, will offer insights into Richards' powerful sculpture and drawing practice, as well as his friendships and the circumstances of his passing on September 11, 2001. The discussion, moderated by Dennis Scholl, will include artists william cordova and Dread Scott, as well as Michèle Wong, Associate Director & Head of Collections and Exhibitions at the Grey Art Gallery, all of whom were friends with Richards. After the screening and discussion, exhibition curators Alex Fialho and Melissa Levin will lead a walkthrough of the retrospective with cordova. This event provides a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Michael Richards and his lasting impact on cultural communities in New York City, Miami, and beyond. Don't miss the chance to experience this intimate look into Richards' art, life, and legacy. The event will take place on January 6, 2024, at The Bronx Museum of the Arts.
