Workshops taking place include:
Beekeeping Basics
 - 10am to 12pm, led by the Association of Southern Maryland Beekeepers and held at St. Mary's College of Maryland
Making Products of the Hive
 - 1pm to 3pm, led by Diane Wellons and held at St. Mary's College of Maryland
Umfundalai Traditions: Using Culture to Dance, Create, and Inspire
 - 10am to 1pm, led by Monique Walker and held at St. Mary's College of Maryland
Poetry and Fiction of Place
 - 10am to 12pm, led by Jeff Coleman and held at St. Mary's College of Maryland
Tile Making
 - 12:30pm to 4:30pm, led.by Parran Collery and held at the new Arts Center from the Arts Council of Calvert County
The Southern Maryland Folklife Center celebrates and supports community-based living cultural traditions of Southern Maryland. The SOMD Folklife Center is part of the Maryland State Arts Council’s (MSAC) Folklife Network. The Summer Workshops and The Center have both grown out of a number of past efforts at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, but both owe much to The SlackWater Center. Since the mid-1980s, The SlackWater Center has been documenting life in Southern Maryland, especially through the publication, SlackWater: A Journal on Environmental and Cultural Change in Southern Maryland.
