Silas Munro will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Strikethrough: Typographic Messages of Protest event in Somerville. The event, scheduled for March 7, 2024, at the Katherine Small Gallery, will delve into the contemporary conditions of protest. Munro, an accomplished artist, designer, writer, and curator, will fly in to discuss the exhibition and catalog titled "Strikethrough: Typographic Messages of Protest" as a compelling case study. Drawing on his expertise, Munro will explore the historical call and response of movements as they relate to pressing issues of today. As the founder of the LGBTQ+ and minority-owned graphic design studio Polymode, with locations in Los Angeles and Raleigh, Munro brings a wealth of experience to the table. Additionally, Munro serves as the faculty co-chair for the MFA Program in graphic design at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. The Standing-Room Only Lecture series aims to provide concise talks on graphic design, typography, and collecting, keeping the audience engaged with succinct twenty-minute presentations. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 6 p.m. for pre-event networking and should prepare for a standing-room-only setting.
