About the Award
The TaxFighter Award is given out by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) to recognize Canadians who have made an outstanding contribution to the cause of taxpayer emancipation. This award has been given to lawmakers, media personalities, academics and average citizens who have stood out and stood up in fighting for limited and accountable government.
About the Recipient
Jordan Bateman is VP-Communications of the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA). Through his work at ICBA, his previous work at the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, and as an elected councillor in Langley Township, Jordan has racked up several wins for taxpayers.
Most famously, Jordan led the ‘NO’ campaign in the 2015 TransLink sales tax referendum. Despite being outspent 170 to 1 and opposed by Vancouver’s political elites, the ‘NO’ campaign came from behind in the polls for a landslide win. Jordan was also the leading champion against the Medical Services Premium tax that was ultimately abolished in BC.
At ICBA, Jordan has helped lead campaigns challenging BC’s gas tax, supporting responsible resource development projects, and fought union-only contracting rules that tacked billions onto the cost of public infrastructure projects.
About the Event
Please join us for an after-work reception on Thursday June 19, 2025 at the Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre as the CTF bestows its TaxFighter Award to Mr. Bateman, and recognize his contributions to the cause of limited and accountable government.
About the Tickets

Standing on the top of the park, you can see downtown Burnaby and the mountains in the distance, as well as downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge. The park is rich in vegetation, and you can smell the fresh air of the pine forest while walking along the forest trails. The park is famous for the Kamui Mintara sculptures created by Japanese sculptor Nuburi Toko and his son, which symbolize the harmonious unity of humans, animals, nature and God. The sculpture group consists of 29 hand-carved logs with animal images such as brown bears, owls, salmon and killer whales engraved on them.

Deer Lake Park

If you are looking for a good place to relax around Vancouver, Deer Lake Park in Burnaby is definitely worth a visit! It is like a paradise in the city, with beautiful lakes and mountains.
There is a flat wooden boardwalk around the lake, which is perfect for walking, jogging, or enjoying nature with children and pets. The lake is sparkling, seagulls and mallards are playing in the water, and snow-capped mountains are looming in the distance. The park is free, the lawn is suitable for picnics, and kayaks can be rented on the lake. In spring, flowers are in full bloom, rhododendrons are particularly romantic, and outdoor concerts in summer are even more lively. Especially in autumn, Deer Lake is even more beautiful, and it is a great place to enjoy maple leaves around Vancouver. Parking at Deer Lake is also very convenient, highly recommended!
