The Byrne Project is an exciting public art initiative in Middleborough that aims to enhance the town's historical and cultural heritage. This project, coordinated by Zannah Noe, the Communications and Community Engagement representative for Middleborough, features the talented poet and student artist, Savanah Byrne. Savanah will create paneled installations using the power of the sun to burn her words onto three panels, which will be displayed in the prominent windows of Historic Downtown Middleborough. This art project, funded by the Middleborough Cultural Council, will not only aesthetically enliven the main traffic intersection but also ignite civic conversations about the town's identity and the significance of the sun. It will also provide an opportunity for workforce development by involving local fabrication labs and the public school system in the design and fabrication process.

To maximize the impact of the sun's power, stencils will be used to exploit the fact that the windows downtown are not ultraviolet-protected. By burning the words of the poem onto fabric printed with an old map of Middleborough, Savanah will create a unique and visually stunning art installation. The poem, divided into three panels, will gradually be revealed over the course of the exhibition's four weeks, showcasing the sun's strength. The selection of Savanah for this project was made by Tony Chuippi, the Coordinator of Middleborough High School's Innovation Lab, based on her exceptional proposal and sketch. The art installation, aptly named The Byrne Project as a play on the artist's name and the sun's power, is being fabricated by Arial Hallgren, a museum display designer and a graduate of MHS. Arial, who runs the woman-owned design business H2DesignStudio.org, is collaborating closely with Savanah to ensure the realization of her vision.

Middleborough Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council deserve a special mention for their support and funding of this initiative. The Byrne Project promises to be a captivating and thought-provoking addition to the Downtown Middleborough art scene.
