The Perspective Project is an immersive and captivating evening of dance that explores the profound influence of our individual perspectives on our experiences. Held at the historic Arts Mission Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas, this event offers a unique opportunity for audiences to witness dance from every angle. The performance commences with All Rise, a remarkable creation by resident choreographer Carrie Ruth Trumbo for Pegasus Contemporary Ballet. Transporting spectators into the depths of one family's domestic life and subsequent downfall, this immersive work is accompanied by the soulful tunes of 1940s jazz and an original score by Kristopher Estes-Brown. Utilizing the distinct features of the building, All Rise takes attendees on an enlightening tour, allowing them to observe the performance from various vantage points.
Renowned guest choreographer Kevin Jenkins, whose work has been hailed as "riveting" by Dance Magazine, will unveil a new piece at The Perspective Project. Set to an original score by composer Bradley Harris, this captivating performance is designed to be viewed from multiple sides of the stage. By creating such a dynamic space, audiences are given the opportunity to experience the piece differently depending on their literal point of view. The Perspective Project encourages viewers to reflect on the limitations of their own perspectives and how these perspectives shape their judgments and interactions with the world.
Thanks to the support of the Moody Fund for the Arts, this compelling and engaging production showcases two choreographers' distinct interpretations of the theme of 'perspective'. Please note that this immersive performance involves navigating hallways and stairs, so we recommend wearing comfortable footwear. Additionally, it is important to be aware that the main hall of Arts Mission Oak Cliff is not wheelchair accessible, with one flight of stairs required for entry. However, an alternative route avoiding further stairs is available for those who may find it more suitable.
