English & Creative Writing, and Spanish, at the University of Strathclyde are thrilled to present an evening of reading and conversation about indigenous poetics with poet Hubert Hubert Mati`uwaá and translator Juana Adcock. About Hubert Hubert Mati`uwaá(born 1986 in Guerrero, Mexico) is a poet writing in the Mè’phàà language. He has received numerous awards including the 2017 PLIA (Indigenous Literatures of America Prize). He is the author of over ten books, including Xtámbaa/Piel de Tierra (2016), Tsína rí nàyaxà/Cicatriz que te mira (2017), and Mañuwìín/Cordel torcido (2018). His most recent work is El cómo del filosofar de la gente piel (2023), a philosophical investigation into the cultural significance of skin and scars in his culture. About Juana Juana Adcock is a Mexican poet, translator and editor based in Scotland. She is the author of Manca (Tierra Adentro, 2014), Vestigial (Stewed Rhubarb, 2022), a suite of poems responding to the work of Alasdair Gray, and Split (Blue Diode, 2019), which was a Poetry Book Society Choice and was included in The Guardian’s Best Poetry of 2019. She is co-editor of the anthology of poetry by Latin American women Temporary Archives (Arc Publications, 2022), and is currently translating the Mè’phàà poet Hubert Matiúwàa’s The Dogs Dreamt (Flipped Eye, 2023), Laura Wittner’s Translation of the Route (Poetry Translation Centre, 2024) and Lola Ancira’s The Sadness of Shadows (MTO Press, 2024).

We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.

We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This is simply a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, and there were almost no people on the road. Only the ancient buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which made people feel awe.

George Square is located in the heart of Glasgow, and it is very convenient to take a train or subway. You can sunbathe in the square on a good day. Near the famous store street, you can buy hand letters, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants to choose from. George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square; at different festivals, such as Christmas, the square will be transformed into a mobile playground full of dynamic and happy atmosphere.
