Join the Hurston/Wright Foundation for an in-person evening of dinner and readings at the Voices of the Legacy Awards Dinner and Reading. This event will feature esteemed authors and 2023 Legacy Awards nominees D. Watkins, Rita Woods, and Cheryl Boyce Taylor. Hosted by award-winning author Christine Platt, the evening promises an intimate setting for food, conversation, and powerful readings from the authors' nominated books.

D. Watkins is a New York Times bestselling author known for his acclaimed works such as The Beast Side and We Speak for Ourselves. Watkins, nominated for the 2023 Legacy Award for Memoir Nonfiction, will share excerpts from his book Black Boy Smile.

Rita Woods, author of the award-winning novels Remembrance and The Last Dreamwalker, is nominated for the 2023 Legacy Award in Speculative Fiction for The Last Dreamwalker. Woods previously won a Legacy Award in 2021 for her debut novel Remembrance.

Cheryl Boyce Taylor, a poet, author, and curator, will also be present at the event. Her verse memoir, Mama Phife Represents, is a touching tribute to her late son, hip hop icon Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor. Taylor's latest work, We Are Not Wearing Helmets, is nominated for the 2023 Legacy Award in Poetry.

Moderating the event is Christine Platt, a multigenre writer and social activist. Platt has gained recognition for her novel The Truth About Awiti and her children's series Ana & Andrew and Sheroes: Real Wonder Women.
