Airport & Terminal Information

Located at the north end, Phuket International Airport (HTK) is the only international airport on the island. Your flight will arrive in Phuket at Phuket International Airport. This airport has two main terminals: one terminal for domestic flights and a new terminal for international flights which opened in 2016.

Getting to Downtown from the Airport

Phuket Airport is 34 miles away from Phuket Town. You can get to Phuket Town by the Phuket Airport Bus and taxi.

The most reliable way to get to downtown from Phuket International Airport is by the Phuket Airport Bus.

By Airport Bus

Airport buses can be found outside the airport domestic terminal, and are bright orange in color. It takes around 75 minutes to get to Phuket Town and costs THB100 at the time of writing. The airport bus runs hourly from Phuket International Airport to Phuket, please check the airport bus official site for the most updated timetable. According to the Phuket airport bus official site, there is no need to book bus tickets in advance; visitors can purchase tickets from the bus staff at the airport.

By Taxi

You can also take a taxi from Phuket International Airport to Phuket Town. For metered taxis, you will have to pay THB100 on top of the fare for an airport service charge. It costs around THB600–THB900 and takes approx. 45 minutes.

Transportation

There are a few types of transportation in Phuket. Visitors can travel around by bus, van, and by Song Taew. A Song Taew is a pick-up truck with two rows of seat for passengers. Besides public transportation, visitors can also get around by taxi. Tuk tuks, 3-wheeled hooded motorcycles for short distance traveling, are a popular way of getting around and have become a symbol of Thailand. Visitors can also rent cars or motorcycles from local companies to get around town. Most road signs are displayed in both Thai and English languages, making it convenient for visitors to drive around.

Leam Phromthep

Leam Phromthep, directly translates to Brahmas Cape, is one of the most important landmarks in Phuket. The Cape is located at the southernmost point of Phuket, allowing visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of the Andaman Sea. Referred to as “Laem Chao” by the locals, this is a popular spot to catch dramatic sunsets and take beautiful photographs from late December to March. Visitors can see the Kaew Island, Nai Han Beach and Nai Ya Beach from the Cape. Visit the Laem Phromthep Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse and enjoy viewing the lines of tall palm trees. The lighthouse was built to celebrate King Bhumibol's 50th anniversary on the throne.

Old Phuket Town

Built on the prosperity of tin mining, Phuket Old Town’s various architectural styles reflect the mix of cultural influences in Phuket. Visit the Phuket Thai Hua Museum on Krabi Road to learn about the cultural exchanges between Chinese and Phuket people throughout history. Enjoy the “Lat Yai” market every Sunday and try local cuisines as you stroll down the streets of Old Phuket Town.

Wat Chalong (Wat Chaitaram) Temple

Located in Amphoe Mueng, Wat Chalong is one of the most remarkable temples in Phuket. It is a holy place where visitors and locals come to pay their respect. Luangpho Chaem, a legendary monk who was famous for providing charm, protection, and luck to those who obtain his sacred objects, resided in this temple during the Ang Yi Rebellion era and helped people with his good luck charms. Visitors are required to remove their shoes inside the temple. Wat Chalong temple is located on Chao Fa Road and opens daily from 07:00 to 17:00 at the time of writing. Weather

The best time to visit Phuket is between December and March when the average temperature is 77 to 82°F (25 to 28°C). As the weather is always warm on the island, visitors should pack t-shirts, shorts, and other light clothes for their trip. Don’t forget to bring plenty of swimwear for all the beautiful beaches and watch out for the six months of rainfall during the wet season between May and October.

Language

Phuket is a popular tourist destination so many locals are able to communicate in English. You can greet the locals by saying “Sawasdee” with your palms together in front of your chest and a smile. If someone ask you “Sabaidee Mai,” that means “how are you?” and you can respond with “Sabaidee” which is “I’m fine.” To say “thank you,” you can say “Khob Khun” to everyone. Men can add "Krab" as a suffix at the end of their sentences, and women can add "Ka" as a suffix. A simple “bye bye” can be understood by the locals as goodbye.

Safety

Phuket is a generally safe place to travel to; however, you should still exercise normal precautions. Be sure to carry your valuables with you at all times and secure your personal belongings. Drinking Water
