Tips for Using Lounges at Shanghai Pudong Airport

Lounges at Shanghai Pudong Airport

Learn these tips for using lounges at Shanghai Pudong Airport.

  1. Check Opening Hours: Some lounges close as early as 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM. Check hours first if you have a late-night flight.
  2. Reserve Showers/Nap Rooms: These fill up fast during peak times (early morning/late night). Book right when you get to the lounge.
  3. Language Help: Most staff speak basic English, but a translation app on your phone can help with complicated requests.
  4. Lounge Wi-Fi: Most lounges have their own Wi-Fi (SSID and password on tables or from reception). It’s usually faster than the airport’s public Wi-Fi.
  5. Avoid Crowds: Lounges are busiest in the morning and evening. Visit during off-peak times for a quieter stay—Priority Pass lounges get especially crowded.

A very beautiful place, although you should keep in mind that there's a section where you have to pay separately (and it's not entirely clear where). A very beautiful and interesting museum. I especially liked the interactive sections where you can interact with objects and even the walls/floor. For 30 yuan, it's amazing. They let us in without any problems and without showing tickets; all I had to do was show my passport, and they checked my information.

People's Square Area Shanghai|0.54km from city center
Location: Great, right on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, very convenient for guests to explore on their own without needing to be guided all day. Ambiance: It seems to be an older hotel with a rather fancy, old-fashioned decor, not very modern. Service: It would be better if the lobby had a more formal and free waiting area for guests. Courier service convenience: Yes, there's a dedicated spot for packages, which was handy as I sent out many samples. Picking them up was quite easy. There are too few places to work on the first floor, only two tables, and one was already reserved. Very limited options, and the other seating wasn't suitable for laptop use. The room is better suited for working, though.

Radisson Blu New World Hotel was absolutely wonderful. I especially want to highlight Judy at the reception—she was incredibly kind, attentive and made my experience truly memorable. If I visit Shanghai again, I will definitely stay here because of her warm hospitality. The view was amazing and the location couldn’t have been better.

Really loved the experience in this hotel! Location is awesome, just cross one street and you are on your way to explore Nanjing Road where all the popular sports brands (think Adidas and Nike..just opposite one another), good food and lifestyle products are. People's Park is also a short walk away as with the hop on hop off bus stops. No complains about cleanliness, everyday when I return the room is neat and tidy, no dust or watermarks to complain about. The overall service is excellent, always service with a smile, very helpful and very efficient. One of staff by the name of Koi kindly helped me with late check out and it was done within minutes, no questions asked. Breakfast buffet is excellent but with all the good food around, once is sufficient. I would love to stay in this hotel again!

Stayed one night at the Garden Hotel during the ***** New Year. Usually, it's around 600-700 RMB, but for CNY it was nearly 1000 RMB due to the premium. I wanted to experience staying in a historic building in Shanghai, and the Garden Hotel seems to be a relatively good value for money. The location is excellent; it has a large garden in such a prime area. You can easily walk to Huaihai Road and Fuxing Road. The service was also superb. It's rare to ask for one item from room service and have them bring a whole bunch of things [crying emoji], I was pleasantly surprised, especially since the hotel was fully booked during the ***** New Year. Thumbs up! Aside from the room being a bit small and dated, the toilet was the common smart type. Breakfast was Japanese style, which I wasn't quite used to. Even with a full house during CNY, there was a queue, but the efficiency was high, and you didn't have to wait long. Considering the location and service, I would likely choose this hotel again next time.

Train Station Area Shanghai|2.4km from city center
This was my first time staying at this hotel, and here's a summary of the pros: 1. The hotel's location is incredibly convenient. You can step right out and catch Metro Lines 1, 3, or 4, and be in the bustling city center within a few stops. If you have heavy luggage, you can use the accessible elevator across the street at the express hotel to enter and exit the station. 2. The hotel is close to Shanghai Railway Station, with many fast-food restaurants and convenience stores nearby, making shopping and quick meals very easy. However, there were also some drawbacks: 1. The room cleaning was not thorough enough, especially the bedside table which had a noticeable layer of dust. It felt quite unpleasant. 2. I encountered cleaning staff in the elevator, management on my floor, and restaurant staff, but none of them greeted me. The service lacked basic courtesy. 3. The restaurant is located in the innermost part of the first floor, which already has poor natural light, and the lighting during meals was also dim, which negatively impacted the dining experience. 4. Restaurant management seemed lax; they didn't discourage guests from dining in room slippers or even bathrobes. 5. During breakfast, items like cheese and ham were placed on the same platter as fruit, which was an illogical arrangement. Getting items like corn required reaching over nine condiment dishes, which was both inconvenient and unhygienic. Overall, my experience during this stay was not very satisfactory.

People's Square Area Shanghai|0.73km from city center
The hotel was easy enough to find for a hotel the has a reception on the 4th floor and no signage out front. The location is prime for access to the pedestrian road. Lots of sightseeing and shopping in this area. Short drive to all the key tourist hotspots. Beds were comfortable, staff were great to foreigners like us, breakfast was fine. The only thing of notes was we had no luck using the dryers and resorted to hanging out our clothes in our room. But this is a minor issue and may be operator error. We would stay at the Yitel premium again.

A special shout-out to Janet, who provided exceptional service – she was incredibly attentive, warm, thoughtful, and super responsive! Jing'an District/West Nanjing Road Shanghai|0.85km from city center
The hotel’s location is very good. It is about a 5-minute walk to a huge Starbucks, Nanjing West Road, the MRT station, and Wujiang Road, which has several nice bakeries and food options. This made getting around very convenient. There was also a 7-11 just across the road. However, the Premier Two-Bedroom Suite was disappointing for the price paid. The rooms are rather small, especially the master bedroom, where there was not enough space to place or open any luggage. We had to keep our luggage in the living room instead. The bathroom, particularly the shower area, looked very dated. The tiles appeared old and there was a musty smell, which was unpleasant. Another inconvenience was that the light switches were only on one side of the bed, making it very inconvenient to switch off the lights from the other side. The kitchenette was also very small. Cutlery was stored in a drawer above the bin, which was not ideal, and there were no extra plates provided. The tiles looked old with visible cracks, and some of the drawers were faulty. Overall, the room did not feel premium and felt overpriced for what was offered. The hotel rooms clearly need a glow-up to match the Kempinski brand and the rates charged. Additionally, the reception area was undergoing renovation, with no seating or waiting area. The pick-up and drop-off driveway is very narrow, only a small lane. When loading our luggage, we had to do so very quickly as other cars were waiting. The driveway would benefit from being more spacious. While the location is excellent, the room condition, layout, and facilities did not meet expectations for a Premier suite.

The hotel is conveniently located, just a 3-4 minute walk from the metro station. The staff were all incredibly welcoming and even upgraded us to a room with a fantastic view of the Bund, which was absolutely breathtaking from our window. The location is superb; it's less than a 10-minute walk to the Bund and under 5 minutes to Yu Garden and Chenghuangmiao Old Street. The breakfast was delicious, and we also enjoyed the complimentary mini-bar in our room. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to experience the free travel photography session they offered this time, but we'll definitely choose this hotel again on our next visit.

Huge thanks to the hotel for arranging my preferred room – it was actually the exact same one I stayed in last Chinese New Year! What a lucky number, 1818. The front desk staff was so attentive and patient. And Xiaoqian, the attendant on the 18th floor, remembered all my habits from last year! She made sure the room was spotless and beautifully arranged every day, making it truly feel like home. The lion dance on the first day of the New Year was a real highlight. I chose Pullman Shanghai South for my business trip to Shanghai, but the hotel facilities are a bit old. I reported this to the front desk, and the duty manager helped me upgrade my room type. Lujiazui Area Shanghai|2.51km from city center
Pros: 1. **Location:** Excellent. Situated by the Huangpu River in Lujiazui, it's a short walk to Super Brand Mall, the Riverside Promenade, and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. It's also close to Metro Line 2, making taxis and ferries easily accessible. IFC is right across the street. 2. **Breakfast Variety:** Offers a wide selection of Chinese and Western dishes, with particularly tasty bread. Cons: **Check-in Issues:** The check-in process was far from smooth and frankly, a terrible experience. The doorman service seemed to depend on who was on duty. On the day we arrived, perhaps due to the rain, there was no service at all, though it improved over the following days. We arrived at 4 PM that afternoon, and one of our rooms still wasn't ready. We were told it would take an estimated 20 minutes to clean, but we didn't get into the room until after 5 PM. **Dated Facilities & Housekeeping:** The hardware feels a bit old. Cleanliness was just okay; for example, the bathtub didn't have a disposable liner. The shampoo and shower gel were in large, communal bottles, and the quality wasn't great. **Subpar Housekeeping:** Housekeeping only made the beds and changed towels. All our clothes were left piled on the sofa, not neatly folded, and the tables weren't tidied. The bathroom toiletries were also left as is, without any organization. **Crowded Breakfast Experience:** During peak breakfast times, it gets very busy. Table clearing was incredibly slow, leading to a shortage of available seating.

Our team building was a last-minute decision, and we chose Sun Island because it's relatively close and offers a good variety of activities. The villa having a mahjong table was a nice touch, and there was also a BBQ grill, which we unfortunately didn't prepare food for in advance. It would probably be even better to visit when the weather is warmer and flowers are blooming. Since it was a rushed trip, we didn't get to experience many of the island's attractions, but it seems like a great place to bring kids. P.S. I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks, as prices on the island are high. Adult Mindfulness Healing Class (1 session): This complimentary class was quite good, but the air conditioning wasn't warm enough, so I felt cold lying down... Free Island Shuttle Bus: You need to call ahead to request a car, and it arrives very quickly.

The Anandi Hotel and Spa Shanghai has a strong focus on wellness and healing. It's a quiet environment, the rooms are comfortable, and the service is good. The buffet at Secret Garden Western Restaurant is indeed delicious, with fresh ingredients and a good variety. However, the hot spring experience is quite average and I wouldn't recommend it – there are few pools, and only three sauna rooms. The hotel is located within a park, so those looking for a room with a view should be aware that most rooms don't offer much in terms of scenery outside the window. Family-friendly facilities are limited, making it an average experience for those traveling with children; it's more suitable for adult relaxation.

It feels more like a resort than a hotel. The bathroom is separate and private, and the water quality is truly different! I'm a regular at GOKURAKUYU (a famous hot spring chain), and the water here really leaves your skin feeling smooth and your hair soft after bathing! Especially the open-air hot spring bath – it's so comfortable. There are also many great food options at Bicester Village directly opposite, so it's very pleasant to wander around after a bath, and the stars at night are beautiful. Highly recommended, perfect for a city getaway.

Title: Discovering a 'Little Kyoto' in Downtown Shanghai – Private Hot Spring Experience, 10/10! On a whim, I wanted to find a place to relax in a hot spring, and this hotel's Japanese garden and private onsen caught my eye. It absolutely did not disappoint! Location: Situated on Meichuan Road in Putuo District, it's a tranquil oasis away from the busiest city center, yet still conveniently located. There's a pedestrian street and shopping mall nearby, making dining and shopping easy. A taxi to Hongqiao transportation hub is also a quick ride. Ambiance: The moment I stepped through the hotel entrance, I truly felt transported to Kyoto. The Zen rock garden, red maple trees, koi pond, and even adorable rabbits and cats strolling around the courtyard created such a serene atmosphere. Every photo I took looked like it belonged in a magazine. Room & Private Onsen: We stayed in a Japanese-style king room, and the private hot spring tub, built from volcanic rock inside the room, was the absolute highlight! The hotel thoughtfully provided bath salts and a disposable tub liner. Soaking in it at night, all the day's fatigue just melted away. The bedding was also super comfortable, ensuring a fantastic night's sleep. Dining: I must praise 'Yakushima,' the Japanese restaurant on the first floor. For dinner, we ordered the seafood hot pot, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. For breakfast, we chose the Japanese set meal – the nine-compartment presentation was exquisite, and enjoying breakfast with a view of the garden was so delightful. Guests also seem to get a discount on dining, which is a great value. Service: The attention to detail was excellent. Upon check-in, we received welcome fruits and a handwritten card, and at check-out, they even gave us a small wind chime as a souvenir – a very thoughtful touch. If you're looking for a hotel where you can truly relax and experience Japanese charm without leaving Shanghai, this place is definitely the top choice. I'll be bringing my family back for a second visit!

The hotel room facilities are good, with everything that should be there. The smoking area outside is also very beautiful. The breakfast in the morning is very good, it is self-service, and there are freshly made noodles to eat. If you are thirsty, you can go downstairs at any time to have some drinks and fruits, which are all included in the hotel package. Why the deduction? Like many reviews wrote, the water in the pool here is really too hot. It is the hottest of all the hot springs in Shanghai that I have been to. It feels too hot. I saw that several children could hardly soak in the water for a while. I don’t know why so many people complained. I saw that the management was still saying in the comments that it met the hot spring temperature requirements. What they said is that your water is too hot, and they are giving you suggestions. Everyone in the hot spring said that the water was hot, not that you violated any regulations... It takes talent to reply like this

This hotel is in a great location, very close to Nanjing Road, which makes it convenient for shopping and exploring the city. The room was comfortable and well maintained. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide variety of international dishes, which I really enjoyed. The only small downside was that the seating area in the lobby was a little limited. Overall, it's a very nice place to stay. I had a truly impressive experience with both the excellent service and the comfortable room. If I have the chance to visit again, I would definitely stay here again.

My stay at The Ritz-Carlton truly brought to life their core motto of 'We are Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen.' I experienced firsthand how their brand principle, 'Our highest mission is to provide genuine care and comfort to our guests,' is woven into every service detail. A special shout-out to the Guest Recognition department for their professionalism and attentiveness, which made this stay a perfectly warm and respectful journey. From the moment I arrived, The Ritz-Carlton's 'Three Steps of Service' were seamlessly executed: the doorman's genuine greeting, calling me by name with warmth; the front desk's swift check-in, accurately noting my preferences; and throughout, there was no tedious waiting, just a pleasant feeling of being valued. During my stay, housekeeping proactively prepared my preferred pillow type, and the F&B department thoughtfully noted my dietary restrictions and customized meals. Staff consistently anticipated my needs and responded proactively, truly embodying the brand's commitment to 'fulfilling even the unexpressed wishes of our guests.' Every detail exuded the brand's 'warm, relaxed, and refined' ambiance, transforming luxury from cold hardware into tangible, thoughtful care. The exclusive service from the Guest Recognition team was a particularly delightful surprise, bringing the brand philosophy to life in a more concrete way. Before my arrival, the team communicated proactively about my itinerary needs, customizing travel suggestions that perfectly matched my plans. During my stay, they not only precisely recorded my personal preferences but also presented a handwritten card and custom dessert on my anniversary, turning an ordinary day into a memorable one with this exclusive touch of ceremony.

Arrived early, and since my reserved twin room wasn't ready yet, the front desk upgraded me to a studio apartment, allowing for an immediate check-in. Coincidentally, it was located one floor below my friend's room, which was incredibly convenient for my visit. The room itself was clean and tidy. The all-in-one washer and dryer was very handy, and the shower room was well-designed. Overall, it was a very satisfying short trip. The staff were exceptionally friendly; the cleaning lady always greeted us with a smile and was clearly well-trained. I hosted several friends who came to visit, and they all complimented the room. My only minor complaint is that it's a tad far from the subway station, but it's within walking distance to the Wutong District and the art street district, which I really loved.

My son and I stayed in Shanghai for a few days during the Chinese New Year. I had dined at the Peace Hotel on a previous visit to Shanghai, so this time I decided to stay directly at the Fairmont, booking a king-size bed room. However, check-in took nearly two hours; we arrived at 3 PM and didn't get into our room until almost 5 PM. The room was not very big, and the window overlooked Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. We could see crowds of people below, and the night view was quite lively. The lobby was beautiful for photos, and breakfast was acceptable, though nothing special and with limited variety. When checking out, I tried to negotiate a late checkout with the front desk, but they would only allow an extra hour, no matter how much I tried to reason with them. I found it quite frustrating that we had to wait two hours to check in, but were only granted an extra hour for check-out. The front desk staff seemed very arrogant, and I didn't want to engage further.

Traveled with two kids. Arrived around 3 PM and there were no rooms available, probably due to it being spring break and fully booked. They assigned us a high-floor room and we went out to explore the Bund with the kids. When we came back, they gave us a corner room with a side view of the Oriental Pearl Tower. Although the front desk said it wasn't an 'Oriental Pearl view' and you couldn't see it head-on, it had everything we needed, and both kids were very happy. We slept in until almost 10 AM before going for breakfast. It was still very crowded and we had to queue for a few minutes, but despite the crowds, the food selection was quite comprehensive and the taste was excellent. Around 10:30 AM, staff even went table-to-table reminding guests that they were closing soon and to grab anything else they wanted in advance. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and accommodating, and check-out was also very smooth.

The room was quite spacious and very close to the subway station (Jing'an Temple, Exit 12, right next door). The elevator was also fast. The only minor inconveniences were the bathtub, which was a bit awkward, and having to pick up food deliveries from the locker downstairs. Other than that, everything else was good and satisfactory.

Whenever I visit Shanghai, I almost always stay at The Sukhothai, and have for several years now. The hotel boasts an excellent location, making both transport and dining incredibly convenient. The property is impeccably maintained, and the service is consistently gentle and attentive. It's clear that the hotel management team is professional and meticulous, which is precisely why I always choose The Sukhothai. The front desk staff, especially one gentleman, was very polite and upgraded my room, which allowed me to get some great rest. It was quiet and clean. Truly the best choice for staying in Shanghai.

The room was very clean. I originally booked one night with a Pearl Tower view and one night with a Bund view. Due to the holiday crowds and limited room availability, I would have had to switch rooms. However, the staff allowed me to extend my stay in the original room, saving me the hassle of moving. This was very thoughtful and convenient. Since I arrived early and the room wasn't ready yet, staff member Lorna thoughtfully arranged for an urgent cleaning. The room was ready quickly, and she was also very caring and attentive to my child. Thank you! The Oriental Pearl Tower view from the room was absolutely fantastic. I had a very pleasant stay this time.

This room type is definitely not suitable for elderly guests or children. As shown in the pictures, the shower and toilet areas are open-plan, making the floor very slippery after a shower, and there's a high risk of falling when using the toilet. The natural light is excellent, and the room is spacious. However, the minibar items are not complimentary. The executive lounge, located on the entire 55th floor, was very crowded during the Chinese New Year, but the arrangements were orderly and well-managed. That said, I was quite disappointed with the food quality, both in the afternoon and evening. Breakfast was decent. The gym is a highlight, spanning 600 square meters with a wide array of professional equipment. The location is also a major plus.

This is a true five-star hotel. Though a bit old, it still retains its charm. Parking is convenient, with both above-ground and underground options, but having to input the car number every time you leave could be improved. The room was spacious, and the upgraded river view room was a thoughtful touch. I slept comfortably, the bathroom was large, the shower had great water pressure, and the high-end showerhead with separate functions was very convenient. The bedding was also comfortable, though the TV was a bit small. The floor attendants were enthusiastic and always ready to help. The biggest highlight is the 30th floor rooftop, where you can swim and enjoy the view simultaneously. Soaking in the hot tub while looking at the Oriental Pearl Tower was an amazing experience! The sauna is new, and the presence of an ice pool shows their professionalism (you rarely see this facility in other hotels). Running on the treadmill in the morning while looking at the Oriental Pearl Tower was fantastic! Breakfast offered a wide variety, truly befitting a high-end five-star hotel. My only minor regret was the absence of small wontons, but the sheer abundance of other options definitely deserves praise! All the staff were very warm and well-trained. There's a Shanghai restaurant and a Lanzhou noodle place next to the hotel, and it's very convenient to drive anywhere from here. All in all, I'll likely choose this hotel again when I come back to Pudong. Lucky to have stayed for two nights, keep up the great work!

The Intercontinental Wonderland Pit, one of the world's top ten architectural wonders, is definitely worth a stay. The cliffside scenery is truly unique, and the view from the balcony is fantastic. Bruce provided excellent and attentive service, responding quickly to any requests. The light and drone show at night was particularly impressive. The outdoor adventure park next to the hotel is a big hit with kids, and the bungee jumping and cliff swing are incredibly thrilling.

All the receptionists were very helpful with sorting out Taobao order and returns and even with their little English they still try to clarify and explain how it works. Many thanks to Zhang Ding Ding and his co workers (apology I forgot to ask their names). The toilet in the rooms is equipped with bidet. The location is only a short walk, around 300mtrs from Exit 10 Jiangwan Stadium subway station (line 10). There is an alley/tunnel connecting Jiangwan stadium and Wujiaochang subway stn, full of food stalls, snack, drink, etc. Basically you won't get starved even you stay there more than 2 weeks. Good place for shopping. no need to go to East Nanjing or LuJiaZui. Thumbs up!!

This hotel is perfectly suited to my taste. The lobby is predominantly decorated in black and red, with even the glass panels featuring a red tint. The lobby area is incredibly spacious, boasting many distinct seating zones, which made me feel like I could spend an entire day just lounging there. The hotel is conveniently located right next to a large shopping mall, MixC City, offering a wide array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Plus, it's just a few subway stops from either the train station or the airport. Getting to the hotel from Ziteng Road Metro Station: exit and enter the shopping mall through its main illuminated entrance. For the most straightforward path, *before* you reach the pedestrian street of the metro commercial area, follow the signs to take the elevator up to the second floor. From there, walk through the parking lot between Buildings A and B, and you'll arrive directly at the hotel, with no stairs to navigate. Overall, I feel the hotel's marketing efforts are insufficient. This hidden gem truly deserves to be discovered by more people.

FAQs about Shanghai Pudong Airport Lounges

  • Can anyone use PVG lounges?

Not everyone gets free access. You can enter if you’re a business/first class passenger, airline elite member, Priority Pass holder or Trip.com eligible loyalty member. You can also buy a pass or use premium credit card perks.
  • Is food free in Shanghai Pudong airport lounges?

Yes, all lounges offer free snacks and drinks. Many have hot meals, noodle bars and alcohol.
  • Can I bring kids into the Shanghai Pudong Airport Lounge?

Yes. Kids under 2 usually enter free. Kids aged 3 and up may need to pay—check the lounge rules or your membership terms first. Some lounges have play areas for kids.
  • Is there a lounge at Shanghai Pudong airport?

Yes. Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) has a wide range of lounges spread across Terminals 1, 2, and Satellite Halls S1 and S2. These include airline-specific lounges (e.g., Juneyao Air, China Eastern, China Southern), VIP lounges, and independent pay-per-use options. All lounges offer basic amenities like comfortable seating, free food and drinks, and Wi-Fi; some also have showers and sleeping rooms.
  • How can I get free access to Shanghai Pudong airport lounge?

You can get free lounge access at PVG through these ways:
Airline/alliance benefits: Fly business/first class, or hold elite status (Gold/Platinum) with airlines or alliances like Star Alliance and SkyTeam.
Premium credit cards: Use cards that include lounge access perks (e.g., Amex, JCB Gold) or Priority Pass membership.
Trip.com loyalty program: Eligible members (based on tier) can access select PVG lounges for free by showing their membership card and boarding pass.
  • How much do I pay for airport lounge access?

Paid access prices at PVG typically range from $30–$50 for a single entry (valid for 2–3 hours). For hourly packages, rates start at around $15–$20 per hour. Booking in advance via platforms like Klook or Traveloka is usually cheaper than buying passes at the lounge. Independent lounges like Plaza Premium may charge slightly higher prices (up to $55 for a single entry) during peak travel seasons.
  • Is it worth paying for an airport lounge?

It depends on your travel needs:
Worth it if: You have a long layover (3+ hours), need a shower to freshen up, want hot meals instead of fast food, or need a quiet space to work or nap. Paid access is also a good deal for families looking for a comfortable area to wait.
Not worth it if: Your layover is less than 1 hour, or you only need basic amenities like Wi-Fi (which is free in public airport areas).
  • Can we sleep in Shanghai airport (PVG)?

    Yes. You have several options:
Lounge sleeping rooms: Select lounges (e.g., VIP Lounge 137 in S1) offer free private sleeping rooms with massage beds for eligible guests (reservations required).
Paid sleep pods: Available in Terminals 1 and 2, these cost around $15 for 1 hour, $30 for 3 hours. They come with reclining seats, charging ports, and privacy curtains.
Public areas: You can sleep on chairs in the terminal’s public zones for free, but comfort is limited, and the space can be noisy.
