When staying at Accor‘s mid-range Mercure hotel, you probably already have very limited expectations. The Mercure Friedensplatz in Mannheim manages to disappoint even those with relatively low standards. The hotel is in a remote place with very little today in the neighborhood, so think twice to stay there for leisure. The building itself breathes the dullness of the 80s or 90s and most likely has not been renovated since. Carpets and rooms are clearly dated. Talking about the rooms, these are standard and mediocre. No charms, just some bare essentials. Now what made the difference between an expectedly mediocre stay and the poor rating: - at check-in, the receptionist insisted to charge for the full stay instead of putting a block on a credit card, as experienced with many other places - the receptionist was unable to pull any information from my Accor profile, which made the check-in process unnecessarily lengthy - WiFi is unreliable, so do not plan to work there - Parking is available in front of the hotel and is expensive - Hotel staff failed to clean my room after the first night. They cleaned the bathroom (so they were definitely in the room) but did not make the bed. - The hotel bar was closed due to Covid - The vault in the room did not work. As an alternative, I was offered to store valuables in the hotel safe at the reception. That would lead to complicated encounters every time I needed to pick and or return an item (like my laptop - one of the two elevators was out of order, creating a bottle neck to go up and down (especially with elevator capacity limited due to Covid) On the positive side, the place was relatively clean. Whatever brings you to Mannheim (work, leisure etc.) think twice if the Mercure is the right choice for you. It might be a good option if you can get it at a great price or if the location is super convenient for you. In most other cases, take a look around if you can find something better.

This is not so great at the forefront. The room is the summit of efficiency in matters of space use. In the room is a large and very comfortable double bed, a small table, but above all a new and large TV on the wall. A small open box rounds this. So you can't fall around, at least fall into bed, to the wall or to the window. For me alone, this is exactly what I'm looking for. New, clean, practical and affordable. Also, right water pressure under the shower and a parking space (€ 18) right behind the house. Breakfast at € 12.50 can be done but it doesn't have to be done. But his money is worth it. I'll stay here more often.

Still very nice hotel Relative to this price, the hotel room is not small, quite large, and ample. The hotel’s breakfast is very recommended, 8.9 Euros every day, full variety, and very well managed. The room is fairly clean and the bathroom layout is reasonable. The location is not close to the train station, not too easy to find, but not far from the Mannheim water tower. The staff is very welcoming.

The hotel is an easy walk from the train station. It says 12 minutes or thereabouts but that’s at an easy pace. The hotel itself greets you by its doors opening as if by magic to welcome you in to a very spacious foyer area. This blends nicely into the coffee/drinks lounge and the breakfast area/dining room is tucked away behind. They have coffee and naturally flavoured water available for guests/visitors to partake of. There are biscuits there too. Additionally there is a ‘candy’ area where you are invited to take one or more of a variety of jellied sweets or candy mice - strawberries - liquorice allsorts etc. I have to say that the majority of people I saw accessing the candies were adults and I don’t think they were getting them for the kiddies - mostly. Loved the unusual decor and design employee. The room we had was very comfortable indeed. It had dark furniture and there was limited lighting in it. It was fine for us but think others may prefer it to be a little brighter. There were little indications of ‘tiredness ׳ in the bathroom for example where perhaps there had previously been hooks on the back of the door but whatever it had been - it was no longer there and it left tell tale marks to say so. Though EVERYTHING was grand for us -I think the floor we stayed on did not fully reflect the thought which had gone into the design downstairs. But they may be doing renovation and with such a large property you couldn’t do it all at once. The location is perfect. Very central. Right by the picturesque WaterTower and Rosengarten. The staff are - perfect! Really! I could not say one bad thing about any staff member we came across. All friendly. All helpful and efficient. Would I recommend it as a place to stay? Absolutely. Plus the area round about has some wonderful eateries to experience and you should as though the hotel restaurant was good it’s always good to explore if you can.

The bathroom is even luxurious. - We also enjoyed the breakfast room, with large glass bays, at the back of the building. But several arrangements were badly thought : - you can't light the lamp of the chair without the four spots in the entrance ! - the door of the bathroom is glass : you are wake up by light when your half goes there in the night ! The Dorint Kongresshotel is in the centre of the city. It is a large modern conference hotel. Our party of 35 was staying here for 6 nights The entrance is impressive with plenty of room and armchairs for people to sit and chat. A good sized bar is to one side. I took well over 100 paces to walk between the lifts and my room 457. The double room was stylish and airy but a bit limited on convenient power outlets. See two photos below. See also the photo of the wardrobe. This looked like a flat pack piece of furniture. There was space enough for my few things as I travel light. If I had been accompanied by my wife with a outfits to meet any social occasion known to woman, it would have been a different matter. Shelf space was woefully inadequate. The bathroom had a wide walk-in shower. The restaurant was capable of seating lots of people. For the group's first night, there was a buffet dinner that was fine. The cooked offerings were either roast pork or filets of tilapia but there was sufficient variety otherwise to provide a 5- or 6 course meal if required. I only took small portions but I think in total it was too much as I had a touch of indigestion later. This was no criticism of the hotel; it was my own over indulgence. We ate at the hotel on another evening. It was a fine buffet with some tasty amuse bouches on offer. I resisted the temptation to over-eat and stuck to fish (Zahnfilet) and ignored the meat. Breakfast each morning was comprehensive except for the absence of porridge. It was nice to be able to make tea in a pot. Another serious disappointment was the closure of the spa and sauna. There were alternative arrangements at another place further down the street. The person on reception said this was permanent but I'm not sure I was correctly informed.

It's a superb hotel where comfort is one of its most outstanding features. The business premises concerned is a stunning ancient building. Particularly inside everything is splendid owing to its layout and décor. Thanks to that marvellous decoration and the way how the interior was planned the mere fact of being there may be a pleasure. Sitting at the bar could be so if there were no music or if at least that were of some good quality. Unfortunately however, the music that one is forced to bear in the bar is awful. The room I was allocated is fantastic and very comfortable. It's a two storey room. On the down storey there is a living with fantastic sofas and armchairs where one can sit comfortably to watch TV, read or, should the occasion arise, have an interesting conversation. On the upper floor, which is accessible through an inner staircase, there is the bedroom, the bathroom and the wardrobe, as well as a stool to put the suitcase. Everything is very good. The bed is extremely comfy as the mattress has the adequate toughness to assure a good rest. Besides, the bedroom is rather peaceful for apparently the building is soundproof, so hardly any noise was heard there during my stay at the hotel, not even door slams, what is especially great. A good practice as regards the room cleaning is established in that hotel. It consists in letting the customer choose betwixt having the room made up or not for the sake of the preservation of the environment. If one opts for not having the room cleaned he can even get a present. In my opinion, it's an excellent idea for in short stays there is not really any need to have the room made up, particularly every day. Needless to say that I decided not to have the room cleaned during my three days stay at the hotel. The staff members are fine to some extent. They are all of course kind and helpful. Notwithstanding that, some of the ones working at the front desk need a professional training as well as some English courses. For example, one of the receptionists, when I asked if there was a safe in the room, he answered in the negative. Then I discovered by chance that there was one in a bedside table. This same gentleman sent one of his colleagues to switch off the air conditioning in my room. The lady charged to do that task just set the thermostat right on the opposite position from that on which it should have been set. Since I was freezing, I sought for a solution from the night watcher, who kindly told me what to do to switch off the device. There are also some competent employees working at the front desk. Among these ones Ms. Di Stefano is outstanding, also by her kindness, charm, reliability and conscientiousness. She is really one of the best hotel receptionists I have ever met. The breakfast is very good and varied. Everything is of an excellent quality. This is really remarkable as regards the fruit, which is fresh and tasty, especially the sweet fruit. The varied character may not be held as far as pa

We had an amazing stay at Hilton Garden Inn Mannheim and I will definitely book again next time I return to the city! I had booked a couple of nights for my mum and her partner after their wedding and had contacted the hotel with quite a short notice to organize a little surprise amenity in their room. Reservations Agent Katrin responded very quickly kindly answering a number of questions and put me in touch with Front Office Manager Jessica who then organized an incredible amenity which was above and beyond my expectations. My mum and her partner where blown away by the setup they found in their room and every staff member we encountered was aware they got married and congratulated them which made their evening even more special! They also loved the restaurant Mister Postman so we went there for dinner on both days we stayed at the hotel. Service and food were brilliant and the kitchen team went out of their way to create another vegan dish for me in addition to what they already had on the menu. Rooms are beautiful and stylish as well as perfectly clean, location is great just next to the station but I am most impressed by the outstanding team as every single staff member we met was professional, friendly, helpful and went the extra mile! Thank you to the team of Hilton Garden Inn Mannheim and see you soon!

There’s a unique charm, comfort, and warmth about the property. I really appreciated the authentic sunny disposition of the staff I encountered. There are many amazing restaurants within walking distance and the proximity to the DB Train Station is excellent. I LOVED the vast breakfast selections although warm options like eggs, an omelet station, pancakes, etc are not available; but you're spoilt with other choices. I highly recommend the cappuccino from their coffee machine. My room was spectacular (I upgraded upon check-in) and my only recommendations would be for them to provide enough towels and add more English language channels as it's a perfect hotel for business and leisure travelers. Overall... A+ grading for nearly all this charming gem offers. I'll definitely be back.

All in all, the hotel seems like one that should have been closed a long time ago ! The staff talked ugly about us to other customers in front of us as he thought we did not understand German. It was really uncomfortable. The rooms were dirty and it did not seem as if had been cleaned for a long time, very reassuring in these covid-19 times. The elevator did not work In the evening when we went to bed, another team of guests entered the room, as they too had been assigned the room, again very uncomfortable and not very reassuring. and the guy at the front desk did not even say sorry, he seemed more angry that he had to work When we got home in the evening our access card did not work so we had to stand in line for 20 minutes to get help twice !! The room was not cleaned either!! The restaurant was also closed! There was nothing working! Very rude staff!

We stayed 4 nights in a suite in July 2019. We liked the spacious room with separate toilet & bathroom. The king bed was excellent. Our suite had a good bed sofa, so 4 person's family stayed here comfortably. Somehow the room felt a bit under furnished: there was no dining table or fridge/bar, that would be good additions to this size of a room. The hotel's breakfast was sufficient in varieties. Also gluten free bread was available by request. There were also things to criticize, mainly on service side. Our room's big windows could not be closed properly for 2 first nights and the blackout curtains did not reach the end of the windows. Both issues were told to the reception after first night. Due to communication problems within personnel these were not fixed and we were not contacted in any way. Only after raising the issue again after 2 poorly slept nights we got the maintenance to fix windows. The cleaning also forgot to deliver bath towels, bathrobes& slippers and there were no bathroom amenities. There are also things that could be better in the property: at any level of a hotel room I would expect these things in a toilet: a mirror, a rubbish bin, a hook for a hand towel. Furthermore: when a laundry room and an echoing stairway are situated right next to a bedroom, you are guaranteed to get comments from clients of poor sleep quality. Noise from the laundry began before 8 am and continued well through late hours in the evening. I travel a lot and appreciate a genuine service attitude. At this, Plaza Hotel Mannheim still has some work to be done. It is not uncommon that there are service errors. In these situations a well functioning team communicates clearly (with each other and to the client) and tries their best to make a guests stay at a hotel as pleasant as possible. It is always a good idea to think: "how would the customer feel?" and then decide how to solve the problem. Anyhow, I respect, that the hotel reacted to my feedback and got their act together for the 2 last nights of our stay. With a little more experience and hopefully also some service coaching, this hotel's staff are able to win customers' appreciation and even better scores in the future.

We had a quiet room in the rear (back yard view) with minimal but all needed features (electric kettle, coffee pots). Be aware though that this room does not have much space dedicated for storing clothings, not even a chair for your day-wardrobe, only a clothes-rail hanging on chains from the ceiling. If you are prepared to live out of your suitcase during a short stay, then this is fine. The friendly staff will certainly help you to select the right room. We booked three rooms (two doubles and a suite) for a family reunion for Easter 2022. All rooms met the descriptions on the hotel website and were very good value for money. The hotel location was good for our trips to Schwetzingen, Ladenburg and Maulbronn as you are on the outskirts of the city and are quickly on the highway to Heidelberg or Karlsruhe. For someone looking to stay in the city center of Mannheim this is maybe not perfect, but in less than 10 minutes you are in the center using the tram which stops in front of the hotel. Despite our room being to the front of the street where the tram passes I had three perfect nights as the windows are very sound-proof. The other family members had rooms at the back of the hotel and also had no issues with noise. The hotel is very new and modern and the breakfast room and breakfast itself are extremely good.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights while in Mannheim. Another couple also stayed here. Both of our rooms were spacious, appearing to have been recently remodeled. Our friend’s bathroom had a large shower which made us jealous since our room had a tub/shower. This setup is more difficult as we age. While the bathroom seemed to be recently remodeled, there were a couple of issues. The bathroom lighting was not very bright making it difficult to see while shaving. There was a magnifying mirror on the wall, but it would not swivel so that I could use it without bending down. Finally, there were two nice sinks, side-by-side, which left no counter space for anything else to be set down. And, there was no place to hang the hand towels. Perhaps they need to rethink how they remodel the rest of the rooms. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. When we returned to our room late after dinner, the smoke alarm was chirping due to a low battery. They came up to our room immediately to resolve the issue. The hotel is nicely located. There is a car parking garage that connects directly to a back entrance to the hotel. The room rates were reasonable. The breakfast selection in the morning was excellent.

The transportation coupon can be used to bury Heidelberg (around 40mins) to visit the local city (although the local attractions are close, Go to the left under the line) In the morning, we will receive our staff and we will do our best. The downside: breakfast, but you can add money or go out to buy a flat.

Day 60 of our 100 day Princess for one day Tour. Arrive surprisingly early and hope for a dinner in the hotel. Despite they prominently advertise the Clash Restaurant on their website: it does not exist. Nor does parking, or the twin rooms we reserved, or towels in our room. My wife and I had one floor mat and one hand towel to share. That aside, the non smoking room was previously occupied by a smoker - yuk. We tried to change, no luck. We had two new staff who had never met. They were hesitate to share one double bed. A twin room - two separate beds - was reserved for them, but not available. I mentioned that we had cancelled one room. Despite the strong language of the cancel policy on their website we had to pay the room. I tried to heal the tense situation in the staff by getting our canceled (and prepaid) room - no luck. They said they will refund me €10 for a room I had prepaid with €100 - as I could not get it. Great business model. I gave notice to our headquarter not to book this hotel again (the company books ten thousands of rooms per year). Why two stars then? The hotel is actually quite stylish. Everything else deserves zero stars - they showed me the agreement why we had to pay the cancelled room. Fair enough. Everything else, even the billing address, was ignored - the wrote out the invoice to our travel agent, even though they were clearly instructed. My best advice: Do not book this hotel.
