Great location right on Gregory Lake, two guys running it were friendly, and let us check in early and let us leave our bags in the room until late on check out as our bus back to South was not until 7.30pm, which was nice. Dogs are really friendly also. Rooms are very big and spacious, but didn’t look like they were advertised e.g. no TV etc. We found the place to be dirty on check in with hairs in the bed, hairs on the bathroom floor, and no new bars of soap but clearly well used bars of soup with hair wrapped round them, which was really off putting. WiFi didn’t work, was told it was because it was the end of the month, but I’ve seen other reviews say the same thing so maybe it’s just a poor excuse for poor WiFi. There was no where to hang or store clothes, but the worse thing about the room is because of the sheer size of them and the fact the doors don’t keep the rooms insulated properly, it was so cold! Like it was really uncomfortable to be in the room, as we’d been travelling around the mountains, all other guest houses we stayed in usually included 2 or 3 duvet covers and offers of an extra blanket. They didn’t offer anything more, and gave us a summer style thin duvet, we were both so cold, we both slept in our jeans, T-shirt’s and jumpers. We were not aware that they offer heaters at an additional price and would have assumed if they had these facilities they would’ve told us upon check in as it was a really cold morning when we arrived! Basically we had no sleep and we were quite thankful we had only booked one night there. The hot water also didn’t work properly, no matter which way the dial faced the water would just switch randomly from boiling hot to freezing cold which meant bathing was almost impossible. The walls in the bedroom were also damp and could see the colour changing indicating mould. We checked out the place on booking.com first before calling them to book and the price on booking.com included breakfast, but when we enquired about that on arriving they said we had been mistaken and breakfast was not included. For the price we paid for one night, we thought this was really expensive for the quality of rooms that they have compared to other places we have stayed in that had great locations too and were even cheaper than this place! It’s sad as the guys running it are nice, and the location is perfect, but until cleanliness is stepped up massively, additional blankets are offered, the hot water situation is sorted and the WiFi works I would not return and could not recommend to anyone.

We booked Cottage San Francesco for a group of 9 last December, 2019 on our trip to Nuwara Eliya. The cottage is very close to the main road and our van was able to go there without any trouble. Asitha and his wife were very welcoming and had arranged our rooms beautifully even though they were shorthanded on staff that day. I loved the little touches like flowers from their own garden in vases around the cottage. Everything was very clean and neat. It was very convenient to visit the Nuwara Eliya town, Gregory lake and the Moon plains from this location. The scenery from our rooms reminded me of a Swiss countryside with rolling hills and vegetation. Our van broke down on the second day of our stay and Asitha was so helpful enough to call a mobile mechanic to do the repairs and paid the fee himself. He cooked all the meals himself and they were so delicious and filling. We all loved our stay at the cottage and will definitely return (specially to give a big hug to Milo and Bella who are the best doggos ever!)

We had 5 nights of complete relaxation from the moment we arrived at the resort. The accommodation was clean and spacious with breathtaking views and a large balcony overlooking the reservoir. The real high points are the food and service. Without exception every meal was wonderful made from vegetables and fruit grown in their garden and the fish and meat all locally sourced. I have to make a mention to Raju who made it his mission to make us as comfortable and look after anything we wanted. With his attention to every detail of our holiday he truly was part of making it very special for us and for all the other guests stying at the same time as us. They can arrange any excursions for you if you ask them. They charge very reasonable rates and nothing is too much for them to make your whole experience memorable. I would personally recommend a trip to the Aberdeen falls and bathe under the falls as well as a trip to the Railway Lodge in Hatton to experience an authentic feel of a bygone era. There were really no bad points if you’re after a thoroughly relaxing friendly vacation . The only slight down side is that although we had fabulous views over the reservoir we couldn’t go in as the hotel hadn’t been granted a license yet, hopefully the powers to be will grant it to them soon. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone .

Wow! 'The Argyle - A Quintessential Highland Experience' yes, indeed it is... We stayed at this heaven for two nights for our wedding anniversary on March 12 & 13, 2020. It is a fabulous place we would say. Mr Upul, The Manager - Front Office, has given us a superb service with his team at The Argyle to make our stay more and more relaxing. We were given a full introduction of the hotel by Mr Upul on our arrival and it is built to feel the real Scottish feeling when you enter to the heaven, The Argyle. What we got is a Bruce category room and we were guided to the room by Ms Pushpine and we would say that it is really really spacious and very unique in it's style and amenities. Bathroom also same and very rich with all new amenities. When it comes to the food, we were given a fully surprised Candle-lit Diner on the deck and it was fantastic. Staff at the restaurant, Anton, Sathish, Ishan, Nivethan, all given us a superb service during all six meals we had. Food was delicious and mouth-watering. When it comes to the pool, they have a temperature controlled swimming pool and it is really nice especially in the evening. Further, they have an organic garden as well as a strawberry garden which is still in the initial stage where you can have a walk. It is really a heaven on earth and a place where you feel home especially with the so much caring staff. Recommended and definitely will visit there again for sure. ~~~Travelogged by Sachcha & Pubba~~~

My wife and I had probably the best vacation we have ever had (in Sri Lanka or overseas) over the past 3 days. Amaya Langdale in Radella, provides a truly tranquil and peaceful environment surrounded by lush, verdant splendour. The property is very well maintained and the accommodation very comfortable and spotless with all necessary amenities. The staff headed by Andrew were all extremely friendly, courteous, attentive, efficient and went out of their way to make our stay a truly memorable one. The food was flavoursome and exquisite, ranging from local cuisine such as rice and curry to a smoked salmon and caviar starter, followed by a carrot & coriander soup, a grilled seafood platter composed of lobster, squid, prawn kebabs and fish for the main course and coffee mousse for dessert for dinner, which seemed to be all in a day's work for young chef Gimhana. They even arranged for us to visit The Oliphant, Nuwara Eliya and have lunch, out doors, 7100 feet above sea level at no extra cost. We will definitely return. Would strongly recommend this property for a relaxing and delightful vacation!

A place where you really need when you’re away from home. Saman and Tasha are very friendly, free spoken hosts. With their excellency in English communication we grasped a lot of knowledge about the country and neighborhood. The house is extremely clean and cozy featuring its own beautiful garden and is located in a peaceful area with no hustle bustle, just a 10 mins refreshing walk from the town. Tasha presented us a variety of nutritious Srilankan cuisine for dinner which I must say is mouth watering. The following day Saman drove us to Horton Plains National Park at 5.00 in the morning in his yellow car and humbly drove us to Unawatuna regardless of how tired he was. We will definitely come back here before my vacation in Srilanka ends.

This is a colonial bungalow style accommodation with rooms on 3 different levels. The rooms are very basic with dated carpets but clean. There are family rooms with bunk beds as well. The bed linen and towels need updating. The bathrooms are quite new and clean. It has separate living, dining and relaxing areas. There is a fulltime cook who can cook whatever we want. We just need to let him know in the morning and he will buy the ingredients and cook all meals. He obviously specializes in Sri Lankan cuisine and his food are very tasty delicious. Meals are always served on time. Kitchen is very clean and spacious. In addition to the cook there is also another helper to assist with bags and anything else. The downside about this place is it does not have any heating. So it can get quite cold in the evenings especially during September through to January. The place is centrally located and can walk down to the town. There is parking at the front for 2 cars.

Was there from the 14th - 17th December with 8 adults and 4 children and couldn't fault this place. The rooms are beautifully decorated with all necessities. The toilets are very good too with good water pressure and hot water. I stayed in room 6 and informed the staff of a smell (which I thought was from the gully) that was coming thru the window in the bathroom due to the next property sewage pit. The staff tried to eliminate the odour at least that what they could have done. The public areas are fully equipped too. The sitting room can be bigger as it clearly does not accommodate 10 people but has a quite a sufficient TV with movies etc. The kitchen has microwave, kettle, toaster... etc although we did not use the kitchen as we opted for their chargeable service of having the property's cook look after our meals. Need to specially mention the staff that was there Pushpika & Eranga, was brilliant hosts. They looked after us remarkably and they were very happy to provide us with what was required. Never that they mentioned they couldn't do anything for us in fact mentioned that he does a 'very tasty' Caramel pudding and if we would like he can make it for us. That was something going beyond our expectations as initially we didn't even plan to get any desserts made over there. All in all I must say as long as those two guys are your hosts you will have a fabulous stay. As for their cooking, the dishes were made to absolute perfection. Very tasty food, we only wanted Sri Lankan dishes and he made kiribath, pol roti, chicken and fish curries and various other vegetable curries which tasted almost as good as from a 5* star hotel in the Sri Lanka that we have visited. The bungalow is located only 2km from the town. The road to the bungalow is quite steep. Couple of rooms have considerable views but not all rooms. However there is a separate balcony upstairs which has great views. Wifi is provided but does not work in all rooms. Had a super stay and will definitely recommend to our family and friends.

We have had an excellent stay at this small family run hotel. Our room was large and beautiful with lovely furnishings, a balcony, and a very clean modern bathroom. Everything from the bed linen to the towels and toiletries were of a great standard. The location is great - we walked to most places from here. Best of all, we could not have had a more welcoming stay. We were offered advice on things to do, and when I mentioned we were vegan we were presented with a box of freshly made vegan coconut pancakes and fruit at 5.30am!! on a morning that we needed to leave early for a trip. This place also offers excellent value for money considering the high standard of the accommodation. I cannot recommend it enough.

More important to us was that the staff was really really nice to us and from the very first moment tried their best to make us háve a good tíme. As an example they decorated our bed with flowers which was a very nice welcoming gesture. Apart from that the Chef made some World class chicken biryani for us upon request of which we háve to say it was probay one of the best we ever ate. We stayed in 4 rooms as a family. We paid to upgrade to the jacuzzi room which was well worth it - especially with the Nuwara Elia climate! The room was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean with a heater for cool nights. The Sri Lankan food was fabulous (better than the Western food) and we made sure to ask for a Sri Lankan breakfast. Service was excellent - always with a smile and the best we have experienced on our trip to Sri Lanka. Mr Cassim and the young waiters deserve a special mention. The chef specially prepared a fabulous Sri Lankan breakfast for us to take with us for our trip to Worlds End. There were a few minor issues - some of the bathrooms need better extractor fans / ventilation as there is evidence of damp and there is some kind of machine ?laundry which can sometimes be heard from some of the rooms. We did have an issue with the hot water one evening but this was immediately fixed by the staff member who was on duty, who was very apologetic and efficient in sorting out the problem. Any issues we had were immediately resolved. The staff were extremely attentive and really went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. Would love to stay here again.

After staying in a very noisy place in Kandy it was so nice to sleep well in Windsor Hotel. Although the hotel is centrally located in the small town of Nuwara Eliya, it was really nice and quiet inside the hotel. The rooms are very simple, most furniture seems to be about the same as 50 years ago. Anyway, the bathroom had been renovated and there was a newish TV. The room was rather cold in the night but the blanket was warm enough. We had both dinner and breakfast in the hotel. The portions were tasty and huge; just the starter + soup would have been enough but there were also main course and dessert included... The staff were helpful and polite.

📍Location: When you are reaching NuwaraEliya from Hatton, this place is before NuwaraEliya town. Very close to Ambewela farm, Jagro and easy way to Horton Plains Pattipola entrance. 🏢 Place: You got a breathtaking view to the lake and mountains. This is a two story villa. We booked the ground floor rooms for a very reasonable price with breakfast. But you can reserve the full villa too. You got a nice parking space. They have made a deck to take pictures of the beautiful nature. They got a dining area and a chilling place with the view to have a nice chat. They provide hot water ( but had some small issues on the day we visited), they have cable TV ( a tv in one of our rooms didn’t work though). But the rooms have No heaters. One of our room’s bathroom window couldn’t close properly. It was stucked. So some small insects and the cool wind came inside. Place is very clean. And the workers, Linta and Dolan were very friendly and helpful. They prepared our breakfast to take away upon our request to have on the way to Horton plains. 🥪🍌: If you want you can request food. They are really good food. It was 600/= per person when you request for dinner per meal. For breakfast we got egg sandwiches and a banana. Food was yummy. And if you are taking food from outside that’s also possible. Within few Kilometers you can reach to a place to buy some good Sri Lankan hoppers and kottu. We requested black tea after dinner and Linta made it without any hesitation. By the time we are going they were fixing a generator. So probably within few days that facility will be available. I recommend this place for a family or a friends visit. Specially friends would be great. ❗️Tip: If you are booking the full villa, then it is ok, if not ground floor rooms are also good. But not with a good view. Still you can access the gathering area for a chat with a good view. (Just for save money 😉)

When we booked this hotel we knew it was cheaper than others in the area so certainly weren’t expecting luxury but what we experienced was very disappointing! Firstly, we ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was terrible! They were unable to offer several dishes, mumbling but without being clear that the chef was not working. If that was the case we would have preferred them to be upfront rather than persuading us to order other dishes which were terrible! We also had to wait over an hour for our food, despite being the only people in the restaurant! Our other main problem was that the rooms are not sound proof in the slightest. On 2 of our 3 nights at the hotel, there was live music being played at a venue next door and it literally sounded like we were in the same room! I couldn’t believe how loud it was in our room (and I can usually sleep through most noise!) The music went on until 1am, and when you are getting up at 4:30 to go to Horton Plains this is not ideal! When I expressed my frustration at this to a staff member, he just shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. How about investing some money in your hotel to get double glazed windows?! We also had small flies in our room which bothered us throughout the night. The rooms are basic but they are clean, which is what I was expecting. Just a shame everything else let it down so much. It’s clearly in need of having some money spent on it to do it up a bit!

The garden and front of the house are beautiful and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The bathrooms are extremely old (well, ours was) and could do with some love but for just one night it was fine and we liked the place overall. We didn’t pay a lot for the room and didn’t expect a luxury experience so weren’t disappointed. Come with that in mind, enjoy the garden and the service and you will be fine. We enjoyed the different to the larger hotels we had been staying in.

We turned up late morning without a booking and were given a pleasant room with balcony, but this area is known as “Little England” because it tends to be damp and chilly! There was no heating in the room and the ceiling was very high so any warmth went up to the roof! There was an extra blanket provided but we were still cold. We were kept awake most of the night by the incessant barking of feral dogs. I asked if the hotel could do our laundry, but I was told that they did not offer that service (how do they launder their own linen?). We asked to book dinner, but were told that the restaurant was closed. If I had known this at the time of booking we wouldn’t have stayed! They eventually told us that the restaurant would be open for that evening, however their menu offered only Chinese food (which was nice enough), no dessert and no alcohol. We asked for a packed breakfast as we had an early start the next day. This consisted of a hard-boiled egg, a small carton of chocolate milk, a small white bread sandwich with indeterminate filling and a slightly dry, plain fairy cake. Yuk. On returning to the hotel mid-afternoon we discovered that our room hadn’t been made up. There were only 3 rooms occupied so no excuse for that I think. We asked for breakfast at 7am the next day but were told they wouldn’t serve us before 8am. I would not stay there again!

We stayed 2 nights at Firsmead. I was a bit nervous as only 6 reviews on tripadvisor albeit a high rating. The reason for the few reviews is the hotel is only 6 or 7 months old and it only has a few rooms. We LOVED our stay at Firsmead. The hotel is decorated beautifully with so much attention to detail for example various fresh flowers, beautiful cutlery and crockery and I loved the elephant shaped salt and pepper pots! There is a beautiful indoor heated swimming pool which has lots of light from outside. It seems that Nuwara Eliya is much cooler than elsewhere in Sri Lanka and rainy so an indoor pool makes sense. There are also great heaters in the rooms and water bottles. The rooms also have a lot of attention to detail: good lighting, hooks in the bathroom, towel heater, mosquito nets. Spotlessly clean. Our rooms were the front rooms and very spacious. They had doors leading out to a terrace in front of the house which is all beautifully furnished with comfy couches. The food was bespoke so we could let our butler, Ragu (he was amazing) know what we wanted that night and the chef would make it. We chose curries (chicken curry the first night and fish and a beef curry second night) which were delicious - both the taste and presentation. The staff of the hotel were fantastic and couldn’t do enough. I enjoyed Ragu’s homemade peppermint tea. Of course I do have to mention the fact that there is noise from the village at night and there is the early morning chanting from the buddhist temple. Despite that, we highly recommend this hotel for a special and unique stay.

Nuwara Eliya City Center
There is a mistake in mentioning the owner. Mr. Tudor is just the manager.. The owners have rented it out to him to be managed.. The owner of silverdew is Dr. Mrs. Rohini Weerakoon (retired visiting physician at Karapitiya teaching hospital, Galle) and Dr. Udaya Weerakoon (currently working as Eye consultant at the same hospital). Mr. Tudor does not own the property NOR is it sold to him. Please do not misunderstand.

Where to begin about how awesome this bungalow was? I will start with the staff, who are so kind and considerate and will go to any lengths to ensure you are cared for and pampered. Janaka stood out as he was always there, making sure our food and our room was just so. What an amazing man, he is such an asset to Castlereigh! Next, wow what a place! The building is beautiful and the antiques appointing the main house as well as the guest rooms were picked to perfection. From the antique RCA Victor gramophone to the antique camera to the horse racing photos from a bygone era, I was just blown away by all the remarkable pieces there. There were even antique maps of Sri Lanka that were so well preserved. A visual feast everywhere. Next, the feasting! I am vegetarian, and Janaka made sure the cook prepared special dishes for me. Everything was mouth watering and so scruptuous! We had breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even tea. Every meal was as if it were a special holiday. I felt like I was royalty. Everything was remarkable and perfectly prepared. The staff is working hard to provide the most excellent food experience possible. There are things to do there - we took a nature hike with a great naturalist and saw many local birds, most we could not have picked out without help from the guide. The sea of great tea is so impossibly cool, you really will want to go see the tea factory, don't miss out on that. This is a place you could easily enjoy for more time than we were there (2 nights, not nearly enough).
