I had read some mixed reviews and was prepared for end of season ragged edges, but I chose the hotel for 1. Actual beachside rooms 2. Walking distance to a village with shops and restaurants. It exceeded my expectations. On the beachside part where I stayed it was at least 90pct occupancy in October. Room great; food good; beach excellent; facilities all as stated and very good. Really simple things: WiFi worked everywhere including the beach club without dropping out; lovely welcome and leaving gifts; cheerful restaurant staff; fantastic birthday cake organised with care; reasonably priced bar drinks; genuinely good quality local bathroom toiletries. I really have little to criticise, it made for an extremely peaceful break. My only criticisms would be: very limited UK TV channels (we could only find BBC World); intraday activities need to be better flagged - I had been there 3 days before realising there was in the sea aerobics / volleyball sessions etc (maybe put the posters in the restaurants?); small queuing at busy dinner times at the beach restaurant. We will return, incredibly well organised - everything works! Room tip: the resort is spread out and different zones will appeal to different travellers; ask for a resort map before booking and look at aerial Googlemap for help too.

So, our stay was slightly bittersweet. We arrived at night and found out quickly that this hotel does not accept credit cards which was a little annoying. When we were trying to pay cash at the poolbar they didn’t have sufficent change for like a €50 bill so we were having to make sure we had the smaller amounts to pay with. Anyway; the room was clean and the maid was very respectful and friendly. The same goes for the female owner and her son. However, her husband and mother-in-law had kind of a sour attitude. His mother always sat outside the reception and didn’t ONCE crack a smile or greeted us when we passed by her. The man had a bad attitude when asked questions and he really looked like he hated his job. We always got new towels (except for sundays because there were no cleaning those days) so we put our towels on the floor each day to have them changed. One day, I guess the maid might have forgot to give us new ones but took the ones on the floor so I went to ask the man for new ones and he was like «well you dont get new towels every day» and seemed like that was our problem even tho we didn’t have a single one left in our room. His wife showed up and took me straight away to the room where they kept towels and gave us new ones with a smile. If we knew that there would be ONE day without new towels we wouldn’t have thrown them on the floor but on holiday it’s nice to feel fresh and clean after a long day with bathing and tanning in the extremely hot weather. The hotel itself was average, but tidy and clean so we didn’t have a bad experience overall but his attitude made us not wanting to ask him for advice or something at all because we felt like we bothered him - even when he was bartending by the pool. But, as I said, his wife and their son was always helpful and friendly and greeted us with smiles. I feel like, if you cant plaster a smile and a friendly tone towards tourists and the ones who pay your salary then maybe you should do something else with your time and for a living. I dont think I will be coming back, sadly.

The owner Eirini was very friendly and attentive - offering advice on where to visit and getting things fixed quickly. She also gave us a toaster to use. The swimming pool is very clean and was never crowded. The views of the mountains are amazing. Reina apartments are very relaxed with no organised events, screaming kids or bar on site. We said hello a few times to our neighbours and that was it for the week. There’s a few restaurants within easy walking distance (500m), a supermarket and cafe also close by on foot (5 mins max). The air conditioning in the apartment was very effective and the apartment is a biggish room with space to move about. The apartments are within 15 mins drive of Kournas Lake with pedal boats and restaurants, 10 minutes to Georgioupoli with many restaurants, activities such as quad biking and a church across a causeway in the sea, 20 minutes from Rethymno which has narrow lanes with shops and restaurants, 50 minutes to Chania which has a beautiful harbour with many many restaurants and shops plus boat trips of all sorts including snorkelling around Islands. Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos are 90 mins drive away - Knossos is not worth visiting unless you like concrete reconstruction scenes! The Imbros Gorge is 45 mins drive south (plus 3 hours walking) and a better bet than the more popular Samaria Gorge. We didn’t go but Eirini recommended Falassarna (90 min drive) and Elafonessi (2 hr drive) beaches. All the comments below are minor and only added here to give people a more detailed impression of the area. The kitchenette is very basic with little space to cook/prepare and just one plug in ring hob - don’t come here planning to cook. Just a few knives and forks provided - although I’m sure Eirini would supply a sharp knife and bottle opener if asked. Best to plan to eat out. The bathroom is small relative to the apartment with a hand held shower - all very functional and did the job but not as impressive as the rest of the room. No food or drinks allowed around the pool which keeps it clean but felt a little strict for a holiday. Pool ‘opens’ at 930am and closes at 830pm which also feels a little restrictive but does help create the serene atmosphere. Kavros itself has a few nice ‘straight coast’ rather than bay type beach areas and has the main road running through it. This doesn’t impact on Reina apartments but gives you an impression of the area.

We arrived on the 1st September late at night as our flight was delayed by two and a half hours so we didn’t arrive at the hotel till 10.30pm , I had planned to have a nice meal for my partner as it was his birthday and a cake that I had ordered as a surprise ,I emailed them to let them know we were delayed , they were absolutely amazing and very welcoming when we arrived and had set up a table with a lovely birthday cake for him ! we had a platter of cold meats and delicious soup and bread it was so nice after such a long day travelling and we were touched at how friendly the staff were and nothing was too much . We were then taken to our room which they had upgraded to a larger room over looking the garden which was so beautiful . In all the trip was fantastic the food was wonderful with a good selection, there was a good mix of salads cheeses meats and hot food the desserts were lovely, the bread was fresh and delicious , we always enjoyed the meals . The staff work very hard and never stop especially the irena the manager she was amazing and always made an effort to say hello all the staff did long hours but were always friendly and chatty I’ve never stayed in a place with such lovely staff . The pools were nice though could have been a bit bigger though the beach is just 50 yard away so you can have a good swim . The room was just what we wanted with a balcony which was not very private that is the only negative thing I can say , the bed was the best we have slept in in a hotel is was so comfortable . The bath room has a bath with a shower which is just right for purpose . The maids come and clean daily and I will say they leave the rooms immaculately clean and they are also very friendly we didn’t want to leave the whole atmosphere of the hotel is warm and friendly and we felt at home here . The only thing we would have liked is a kettle in the room to make tea or coffee but in all we had a fantastic time and will return one day , there are tavernas all around where we went for lunch and had a cheese and ham toastie and fries their omelettes are good too and all reasonable prices , posto di caffe is a must they have bands playing most nights and the atmosphere is amazing , also try palagias yard which is a family run taverna and cooks traditional Greek food the price is reasonable too . Thankyou everyone at the Orpheus resort we will definitely come back

I’m writing this review as I’m sitting in the pool bar on the last day of my stay and I’m so sad to leave! Hydramis hotel gave me one of the best hotel experiences in the 15 years of me traveling abroad. Even in the times of pandemic - everything is perfect. Management cares about both the guests and the staff safety - lots of hand sanitizer stations, tables, and sunbeds in an appropriate distance so there’s no overcrowding. When it comes to meals it’s really well organized. Firstly someone shows you a place where you can sit, almost always it’s Georgia (an absolutely lovely person, when we mentioned we’re renting a car she suggested some places where we could go and gave us great advice). Then there’s a buffet where you’re assigned one of the staff members and you tell them/show them what do you want to eat. It’s clean, safe, and efficient. The waiters bring your drinks to the table. Everyone is really friendly, helpful, simply - they’re great people. About the food - I’m kind of a picky eater but there wasn’t a time I had nothing to eat. Great variety of vegetables, meats, cheeses, ham, fruit, everything you can imagine (for all sweet lovers - they have great desserts, too). Worthy mentioning: fries (I promise, you’ve never had such good fries in your life, they’re seasoned with herbs that grow in the hotel’s very own spice garden), of course, tzatziki and other local cuisine dishes (boureki, a gratin with zucchini and potatoes was absolutely delicious), lots of grilled veggies such as aubergines and zucchini and peppers - delicious. The food is definitely great there. Kids will love the pizza they offer. I know it’s important for many people - I think vegetarians will have many things to choose from (not only salads but warm dishes too), vegans may have a slightly harder time. Cleanliness - this place is spotless. Not only rooms but every area, cleaning crew is working very hard, they often mop the floors, sweep the pathways and even public restrooms/showers are incredibly clean. When it comes to the room - amazing, towels were changed every two days, bedsheets too. The floor was thoroughly cleaned - you can walk barefoot and not worry about getting your feet dirty. Swimming pools - clean and very nice. There is one especially for small children, about 60 cm in-depth, then there is another one that goes from around 1m to 1,7m. Beach and sea - the beach is very clean, every day around 5 am there are people who empty trash cans, arrange sunbeds in order and make sure everything is okay. The shore is a bit stone-y but as you go further there’s pleasant sand beneath you. Important: there’s a guard that makes sure you’re safe as there are times when it’s windy and waves are quite powerful. Premises of the hotel - beautiful, simply beautiful, trees, shrubs, flowers that smell beautiful, they also grow their own grapes and they’re hanging above your head when you roam through alleys. I can’t think of anything that was bad/unpleasant during

I agree with the other review it's styled in the 90s who cares? The welcome is so good, thank you Helena and family. Everyday Helena brought us figs or cake. They make the beds change the laundry clean the place. I din't expect this in what is described as an appartement, its more a hotel. The kids loved the exceptional pool 18 M x 8, 2.8 M deep, very clean. Nice garden lots of loungers. Although there is a couple of hot plates and fridge I couldn't see me cooking especially considering the fantastic restaurants around, The Tavern and our favorite the Panasia at Greek prices. The only negative, is the curtains that let too much light in so bring your night shades. There is ample parking just opposite.

This is our 4th time at the Vantaris Beach Hotel. There were 11 if us including a 4year old and an 8 month old. The hotel itself is beautiful and spotlessly clean everywhere. The food in both the restaurant and beach bar is amazing, very varied, lots to choose from. But the best thing is the staff, Angelo the Maitre De, is very helpful, organised and really friendly. The dining room is very well run and relaxed. The main barman Costas, is wonderful. Not only does he make the best cocktails, but he’s such a happy person. Stelios was the beach bar man and he really looked after us as well. The beach and the pool areas are well well maintained. We all had a wonderful holiday and will definitely be back again. Thank you

We have just returned from a weeks stay, family of 2 adults 1 teenager, b&b, and we were blown away by the accommodation and staff of this hotel. We have holidayed in the village about 6/7 times, but this was our first time “across the river”! It is literally a 5 min walk to the main square, and is a lovely, quiet hotel at every time of day. We had room 39 in the main building, and although a bit unsure at first of having a ground floor room, it turned into a real blessing, only having to nip across the wall that separated us and the pool area! The room was lovely, having 2 balcony areas a real surprise, the air con worked really well, all the cooking facilities needed to rustle up a meal! Really good sized front balcony that didn’t feel as though you were too close to next door, and so close to the pool to literally throw your towels on in the morning ( although finding sun beds was never an issue, we were normally the first towels out at about 9ish!). The bathroom was lovely too, water pressure was occasionally weak, but all depends on time of day and no different to anywhere else in Greece! Breakfast was always no problem, always lots of fresh produce and a place to sit! There was only one day when it felt busy, but still everyone had a seat and no issues with food availability! Big thank you to Ana who always worked so hard and was super friendly, and the lovely lady who greeted us every morning when cleaning our room! WiFi was fine, it was stronger in the bar and pool area, but if it was fine for our 14 yr old, it must be ok! Really pretty garden areas, didn’t feel too close to anyone else and a handy bar to grab drinks and ice creams from, and also serves snacks if you want a lazy pool day! Definitely, definitely will return again!

We had a lovely two weeks based at the Emerald and couldn't recommend it more highly. The bedroom and living room area have high ceilings and feel spacious. The front balcony has a view over the swimming pool to the Aegian below, Almerida and Kalives beaches, and beyond the beaches the White Mountains. The staff are friendly and there's an onsite restaurant. The Emerald is very reasonably priced and within 10 or fifteen minutes' walk from the village of Plaka in one direction and from Almyrida beach in the other. We didn't rent a car and tended to take taxis up the hill after a day at the beach. Kalives is the next beach along and well worth a visit or two. All in all, a perfect stay and can't wait to return!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Porto Kalyves and cannot recommend it enough. If you are after somewhere to stay that is clean and has all the amenities of Kalyves nearby then we would suggest staying here. There is a fantastic beach and large supermarket within 10 minutes walk in one direction. In the other direction the centre of Kalyves can be reached also in 10 minutes with a good choice of Tavernas. The apartments themselves are well equiped and are very quite in the bedrooms despite the property being on a road. The balcony has a fantastic seaview and is great for watching the cruise ships come in and out of Chania. As other people have said the coffee shop offers a great range of drinks and snacks as well as being the perfect spot for a sundowner drink. The thing that helps to make staying here a lttle more special are the owners. They are always on hand to help with any requests which helps to make the most of your holiday. Kalyves is a great place to stay if you are looking for a quite beach resort that is also within easy reach of other places of interest. We would reccomend staying here if you are looking to visit Kalyves.

The resort is very new with a modern concept of high technology and design. The staff is nice, polite and helpful. Ioanna, Costas and Nikos are the best. But also Popy, Despina and many other are very kind. Only Maria has an arrogant attitude and trys to downgrade you, if possible. I identified her in some of the previous reviews as "not so mannered lady at the reception", trying to downgrade the guests. Be careful because her attitude seems to be a practice unacceptable for a 5 star hotel!!! The rooms are small but well organized and always clean. The restaurants are modern. A la carte restaurant is perfect located close to the beach and swimming pool. This restaurant is good for a quick lunch. This area is well delimited and is the most interesting and relaxing part of the resort. The spa is modern and its stuff highly professional. There are interior swimming pool, hamman and sauna with a beautiful view outside. The beach is organized in a original manner. The deck chairs are located like in an amphitheatre, with a perfect view on the sea, but also very closed to the swimming pool. They have their own parking with permanent security. The wifi is good, covering the beach area also. Once again, many thanks to Ioanna and Costas for their permanent kind attitude and good advises for trips, restaurants and interesting places to be visited in Crete.

Our tourist agent arranged everything so that we did not troubled much of anything. *middle of june. The Hotel itself looks nice, we were there with both our children(3 and 4). We get a better room than we expected. Not too far from the sea(10-12 min to walk) private beach, very clean, they do provide transport 3 times per day to and from the sea. The room was clean. We had everything we need in it, but there were several rooms with some difficulties. The meals were tasty enough, even if we do not are used to eat some of the dishes...the ice=cream was delicious!!! All in one it was very good. The staff was kind to us. They speak english and russian. A very beautiful view, a great village, a cool Hotel.

For us one of the best hotels ever. We have been here several times and will definitely be back: spacious, always clean and quiet, even when it is full. To come here is a little like coming home, just not so cold :-) A little tip: AI is definitely recommended with children, but not absolutely necessary, there are alternatives both inside and outside the hotel. The direct beach location is (especially with a sea view) a pleasure. But if you are looking for animation and a place to park your children all day, you are wrong here. For us, an argument in favor of the hotel: noisy party animation that would rob you of peace and quiet does not exist. Activities are certainly offered, but they are subtle. The same applies to the evening program: unobtrusive and cozy. The only exception: the Greek evening with folk dances, fireworks and live music. Quite a highlight, we always had a lot of fun here. Rooms: good, clean, properly equipped and adequately sized. If you don't want to stay here for the whole holiday, the rooms are absolutely fine. Small downer: the safe costs extra, as does WiFi. In my opinion, something like that is unnecessary in this price category. Staff: almost without exception friendly and accommodating. Here you don't feel like a necessary evil or a tip machine, but actually as a welcome guest. Even if some of them seemed a bit overwhelmed at peak times, the tone is always friendly and courteous and whatever was necessary and possible was made possible. Our special thanks go to Soula, whose open and warm manner has meanwhile become the most important argument for us to keep coming back. In addition to Panos, who is not only a great person, but also a great bartender who understood his job and knows that a cocktail has to taste good even if it is not paid for separately (in many hotels, AI guests like to be filled off with inedible mixtures, that is definitely different here). Good mood, hospitality and an almost family atmosphere, what more could you want? Beach: fantastic! The long sandy beach is ideal for sun worshipers and invites you to relax, swim and take long walks, for example to the sleepy Georgioupolis, which you simply have to see here. The only drawback: the beach chairs and parasols cost extra (which is common here), even for all-inclusive guests. 12, - € for a family of four per day, even if you are only here for a few hours in the afternoon ... whether it really has to be in this price range (and all inclusive) is questionable. Food: delicious! We ate well here every day ... from a rich breakfast to a good lunch, snacks on the beach or the buffet in the evening: tasty, fresh products and something for everyone (including authentic local cuisine, from salads to desserts). The selection is not quite as extensive, but for us that is a quality feature: Anyone who knows a little bit about cooking knows that it is hardly possible to offer a completely overloaded buffet with fresh and regional products. Here, on the

Been at this resort several times, once together with my fiancé, once with the whole family (teenagers). This latest visit I stayed by myself for a week of yoga booked through the hotel. Regardless of constellation, this is an excellent hotel to stay for your vacation. This was the first time staying in Almirida this early in the season (beginning of May). Quite calm at the hotel, not so many guests as in June and July (my previous trips) of course. I would start the day with yoga and/or a morning walk among the beautiful surroundings, greeted by goats, horses, dogs and cats. :) After that a nice breakfast at the hotel; they have an ok breakfast buffet with the usual stuff like yoghurt, cereals, bread, fruits, vegetables, bacon, scrambled eggs. Hanging by the pool during the day and then having a nice lunch at the hotel. Love their greek salad - SO tasty. I also recommend their chicken gyros with tzatziki. You have access to wifi at the poolarea (and in the hotel main building) which I think works well. No wifi in the rooms. Workout sessions with staff most mornings for those who want to stay active. :) Unfortunately the fridge in my room was missing. They offered me to change room following day but I wanted the view so I stayed. But even though it's early season and they hadn't yet "gotten everything in place" as they answered me, it's just bad. You should get exactly what you book and pay for. I also would wish they had a little more to choose from in the breakfast buffet, more healthy options than cereals, breads and bacon. Like perhaps smoothies, more different vegetables (they served either hot tomatoes or hot zucchini, which was good but they could have more). The staff was new (seasonal staff) which was quite clear. It probably takes a few weeks to know the menu better, find ingredients (I ordered a smoothie in the pool-bar for lunch one day and no one seemed to know where to find different ingredients, so it took a while). But they were nice and wanted to give good service. Could be good to have at least one more experienced staff member in place in the beginning few weeks, perhaps. :) But I truly recommend this resort and a trip to Almirida. It's a cosy place with great restaurants by the ocean, beautiful surroundings which are great for hiking and the resort has daily trips for those who want to explore the island even more.

Hotel or properly saying apartments location is right in Malia strip but has an entrance from opposite side as gate gets closed Little toward midnight when situation gets crazy in the strip . Will describe today one of the issues : Most remarkable is the Breakfast if you decide to stay more than one day and if included in the room price , it is served by the pool but it is them who choose for you what to eat so basically the family run bar would serve you on your table with one plate and a coffee . ( the plate-one day -would be decorated with one slice of ham cut in 2 halfs + one slice of yellow cheese also cut in 2 halfs , 2 slices of tomatos , 3 slices of cucumbers and 2 pieces/ slices of toast bread) . The next day , would be a 20 grams piece of feta( instead of yellow cheese slice , the following day would be one half fried egg along with the standard slices of Cucumber , tomatoes & bread . However , you you can get a better at 2.8 euros ( for 2 eggs 😁) and richer breakfast in the many restaurants very nearby in within the strip .
