We decided to stay in the UK this year & visit the South West, this place looked great even though we'd read some negative reviews. Even before we'd arrived we received an email telling us that there were staff shortages & things might not be as we anticipated, not a great start! We followed the advice on the website & set navigation to Wadebridge, glad we did, such narrow roads even from there. Upon arrival it's not obvious that there's an in & an out, there was a van coming up the in to meet us, better signage needed. We were greeted at reception & given the room we'd read about, 301! The furniture & condition of the balcony looked the same as photos going back to 2019, broken & dirty! The room itself was OK, tired furniture & the door to the balcony was the only ventilation plus it was rotten. The bathroom was nice, separate bath & shower, the door to this didn't close properly so water all over the floor. There's also a toilet in the entrance hall to the suite, which isn't advertised, along with a large built in wardrobe. We asked to be moved because of the door, balcony & smoke from the burner which had it's chimney right outside the room, but were told there weren't any more Junior Suites available, nothing was offered by way of apology or compensation. The bed was awful, got to be the most uncomfortable bed we've ever slept in & it was a small double, we thought that was odd given we'd booked a suite & only realised on our return home that it should have been a KING! The whole complex is tired & in desperate need of a refurb, the grounds are very overgrown & there appears to be no upkeep, it's a shame as this place has loads of potential, there's even a building at the back which could be used as a shop given that the nearest is about 4 miles away. We ate in the restaurant, the food was OK but it wasn't a great experience, we waited an age to be served then asked for Prosecco & it took them about half an hour to come back & tell us they didn't have any, it was a Saturday! Our dishes got changed from the menu too without anyone asking or telling us about this. The restaurant wasn't at all busy so there's no excuse, the staff were not properly trained & really didn't have a clue. The menu didn't change for a whole week so I suggest you don't book for dinner in your package! The Spa is also tired, showers not working, smell of damp everywhere with rotting wood. It's a shame because we enjoyed our massages with the Elemis ladies. Our bill was wrong at check-out, we'd obviously been given someone else's bill, good job I checked it, again no apology with reception needing to call someone to deal with it, again not trained. Overall not great & wouldn't stay again.

My partner and I booked a nights stay at this venue as the photos looked good. I was somewhat apprehensive about booking when I enquired about the breakfast included in the price, I emailed the hotel and was replied to quickly with the news that there was no hot cooked breakfast (but at least I knew before heading down for breakfast). The cost of the room was £72 a night and the room was the best bit of the stay. It was large, clean and had a spacious bathroom. The TV and furniture, like the hotel itself was old and dated. The swimming pool facilities were ok (there are better pools around) - there must be a popular gym within the hotel as a lot of the visitors seemed to be large weight lifters, not quite the relaxing atmosphere we were looking for. We slept fabulously and the bed was super comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was embarrassing and we left before having any, there was budget priced sliced white and brown bread and a roster, some unappetising fruit, some pain au chocolate in plastic wrapper, some cheap looking tea cakes and filter coffee. There was also some orange and apple juice. My partner decided we would be better off heading in to Wadebridge for a nice breakfast which we did. On the way out, I asked reception which is now down stairs by the leisure facilities if I could grab a coffee from the coffee machine, once I had made a latte and an Americano they try to charge me for them. After a fairly disappointing stay and a terrible breakfast experience I would have thought two machine made coffees would be included, I politely left the coffees. If you need a room for a night I would definitely recommend here, big rooms, clean and super comfortable bed. However, if you want to relax and enjoy a good breakfast in the morning this isn’t the right place for you.
