This hotel is bang in the centre of Newquay, the zoo and park is only a 10-15 minute walk away. and the town just a few minutes out of the front door. A very useful Tesco express is across the road from the hotel-for your morning Costa before the buffet opens. When you walk into this hotel, you can just see how grand it is, the foyer and reception areas are particularly impressive. The reception, housekeeping and breakfast/waiting staff that we met were all friendly and happy to help. The breakfast itself was adequate, there was a good selection-everything that I expected to see. We were upgraded to a seaview room, which was a lovely surprise and the view was fantastic. Unfortunately this is where the good points end.....now for the bad points; Parking-this is not mentioned in the write up for the hotel, but this is not guaranteed at this hotel (even after you have paid the £5 fee for all the days you are staying there) and the hotel carpark is not just for guests. We weren't told about the 'overflow' carpark until we complained that we had nowhere to park, and to be honest, its not the best situation-the overflow carpark is behind the nightclub attached to the hotel, not lit at night. The other thing to mention about the parking is that it was quite frustrating to see (as we were struggling to find a space as a paying guest) that the staff seem to have priority in the spaces at the front of the hotel and workmen's vans were parked around the back-leaving very few for their guests. The lift! This DOES NOT WORK-we were told it was only available to take luggage (and cleaning carts)-this IS a problem...and not one that they seem to be addressing (reviews from many months ago have also mentioned this problem). We were on the 3rd floor and there are many many stairs to climb to get there-I'm not unfit, but this was quite a pain for me...We passed disabled people having to climb the same amount of stairs too, I do wonder if they were informed of the lift being broken before they checked in-I'm guessing not. The bathroon-I'm not a snob, and not particularly picky-but what I don't like is grot! The bathroom in our room was just grot, I'm afraid to say-so much so that I tried to avoid having a shower in there-I attempted to take my shower stuff down to the pool changing rooms to get a nicer shower (more on that in a moment)-the grout is filthy, the soap dish is just pure rust-I mean how would that not have been flagged and replaced.... The pool area-well...when I said grot for the bathroom in the room-the pool area and changing rooms were on another level of grot and filth....uuurgh, just uuurgh is all I can really say about it... The 'jacuzzi', a little bit like the lift, is STILL not working, same goes for the sauna....These are things that should be updated on the website in my opinion-it has been that long since there were operational that I don't think the hotel can really advertise these 'features' anymore. My other gripe is that there is NO recy
We have just had a very enjoyable stay here in August. The hotel is in a fabulous location just over the road from a beach and no more than 10 minutes walk into Newquay town centre. The hotel is an old building but all the public areas are well maintained and clean. We had a large room on the 3rd floor which had a big windows with great views over the beach. It was a little difficult to find the room and the reception staff need reminding to direct guests carefully if they are in the 'cottage rooms'. The bed was comfortable although the room was a little hot at times and there is some road noise if you open the windows. Being on the top floor the only drawback was the water pressure in the shower was poor, making it difficult to wash my hair properly. However the wi-fi worked reasonably well even that far from reception. As we were staying for a week we only had our room cleaned/serviced twice in that time, but were able to get extra tea/coffee and toilet rolls from reception. We were on a half board basis and all the meals we had were very good with decent size portions. The hotel did run out of specials on a few nights which was a little disappointing, especially when I really fancied the chicken dinner. The buffet breakfast was excellent and quickly replenished when necessary. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and there was a nice family feel to the whole hotel. Sadly it seems as if the days of this hotel are numbered due to the proposed redevelopment of the area and I wish we'd visited sooner. If it's still here next summer we will be back and I suggest if you're thinking of visiting Newquay and want a good value, family friendly hotel, visit here before it's gone!
Ok. Stayed here a few years ago. No complaints. Review written on here. Stayed here last night 2 Adults, 16 year old and small dog. Given room 102. Small room. 3 single beds with double made by pushing 2 of them together. Room stiffling hot, 1 window off set to the left. Not enough for air. Bathroom small, no window. Room allows dogs. Was very obvious...See photo's where dogs have wee'd up the wall 🙈 As we were sat on the beds, as only 1 chair for room for 3 people, there was a strong smell of sewerage coming from outside of the window accompanied by a constant gushing noise of water through outside drainage pipes. See video. Couldn't close window to avoid as room too hot. Wife went to Reception with video, lovely guy who was Shift Manager straight away said he would move us. We were given rooms 209 which was a double with sea view and a single of 306A. The fact we had to split from a Family room was compensated due to the views. 306A was small single. Served it's purpose. Room 209 was im guessing supposed to be a little more luxury. Large bathroom with both bath and shower. Double bed with a step up, have to be careful in the dark to not trip up or down it. Very cumfy bed and bedding. Felt clean. Windows absolutely filthy however and on restrictor openers so impossible to take a decent photo of the view. Toilet seat completely off in the bathroom, an obvious repair. Some spilt drink marks to the walls in places and the corridor outside is tatty. Overall the rooms all need some tlc in ways. Breakfast...Lovely shift Manager from night before dealt with us. Good choice of drinks and continental. Bread rolls stale. Help yourself to as much as you like but hot food is taken by order. Full English tad basic and not much on it. Not a choice we would have again. Bacon undercooked, burnt sausages and poached egg slimy and raw. No entertainment on and Swimming pool out of use. I was told this was due to refurbishment but upon sight of the pool it can clearly be seen as a dumping site for old dirty mattress's! This is not a good look nor should it be allowed as there are specific rules for getting rid of mattress's. The main reason we stayed before was the attraction of the pool. Very dissapointing. Best thing about whole place is the Staff....faultless and lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. Both guys at breakfast were efficient, professional and lovely. Wouldn't probably stay again when there are plenty of other same priced hotels in the Newquay area. Room's allocated are a bit of a roulette to be honest.

What can I say .. expertly run by someone who definitely knows the hotel business, Friendly staff , our room was spotless with a huge bed and nice bathroom all very comfortable with amazing views , the breakfast was very nice with a choice of cereal then full English etc with toast and plenty to drink , Comfortable if you want to sit on the terrace for a drink in the evening or eat in , the food was very nice and good quality but as you'd expect in a hotel not the cheapest, Just a short walk to Fistral and the parking is at the rear ” you get a permit at check in ” it is at the end of s council car park but quite private, All in all we thought it a great little hotel
