Large complex with several pools and dining options, though some amenities not available due to covid. Generally helpful and kind staff, one gentleman at the concierge wasn't the best but the manager was great! The beach had lots of space, places to sit and staff available for beverage service. Overall a nice place to stay!

The absolute best service and food we have gotten in over 30 visits to the peninsula! We travel often to the area, sometimes 2 or 3 times per year. It is our relaxing place. We try to stay somewhere different each time. After staying at the Grand Velas Riviera, we may not stay anywhere else. Granted, some of our experience may be due to the very slow season. The most other guests we saw at any one time is about 8 people during one of our dinners. Which brings me to the food. We are well traveled around the world and we expect the food to not always be to our American taste. We we did not expect was that although it was not what we were used to, it was exceptional at every restaurant venue. Only Sin Lin slipped down to average as the Lobster was over cooked. Well, 3 of 4 pieces were. Service was always exceptional. We also ate at Piaf (the best) Cocina de Author, Lucca and the Bistro. The Bistro was our go to spot for breakfast and lunch. A shout out to David and Fernando at the Bistro who were outstanding. An example of exceptional service, I am an early riser and would sit down before the Bistro would even be open, magically my morning cappuccino would appear as I watched the sun rise. Close by at the adults pool, Marco took amazing care of us pool side. I would stand up and just touch the umbrella to adjust the shade, and he would appear out of no where to make it right. My wife and I would never need to ask for another of our favorite drinks, water or fresh towels. Likewise Luis would always be on the spot getting our car and making sure it had 2 cold waters and fresh towels when we took day trips. On the beach, service was equally as good. Entertainment staff were a blast to play beach volleyball with or if we wanted to go on a bike ride. Angel, Susan, Geraldo, Wendy and Jesus, THANK YOU for the great games and friendship. The facilities were probably the best we have ever had the pleasure of staying at in the Caribbean, but what made the visit truly remarkable and enjoyable was ALL the staff at the Grand Velas. Every single encounter with staff included a genuine smile and greeting. Even the maintenance person ( I forgot his name) working every day on the deck smiled and acknowledged me on every pass. I usually would spend a moment on the negatives along with so much positives, but in this case we left with such a good feeling about the resort, the couple of ”issues' are not even noteworthy and would be petty. Thank you Grand Velas for a truly relaxing and replenishing visit.

As the Banyan Tree service did not have to say, that is, the charges are expensive, even the expensive is not good for hygiene, the pool villas, the small collapse in the yard can not lie, placed in the corner of the eaves do not say mosquitoes There are many ant bugs and a lot of spider webs. It looks dirty. The colony is also covered with insect secretions and spider webs. The partitions in the room are all gray, which makes people feel uncomfortable. And if it is too far to go to the beach, it is not convenient. It can only be said that this Banyan Tree is relatively backward, not as good as the nearby Viseroy.

We had no idea what to expect from Mexico it being a last minute decision to visit. And - well - we were blown away. The Rosewood is a stunning resort. The staff are beyond delightful - literally all of them so clever and thoughtful and on the ball. A comfort blanket is wrapped around you on arrival and when you leave you feel a little bereft. What? I have to make my own decisions? We had booked for a week and then three nights in another resort. We would have preferred 5+5 but due to rates and availability didn’t have the choice. With hindsight we are thankful and wish we’d stayed 10 days here. When booking we would have preferred to go to the other resort first as we knew the Rosewood was likely to be superior and we were right. If you are going to more than one venue I suggest you go here last. We did get a little jaded with food by day 6 – but that is us – we are picky eaters. We also found it mind bogglingly expensive but we knew that. Only a couple of improvements. If your ‘do not disturb’ sign has two different sides – one sleeping and one at the beach I think it is a fair assumption that one side says the room is available and the other not. Not so – both meant do not disturb. It took a couple of days to clarify this – would suggest a clearer system. Loose tea should not be served in a cafetiere. And the water should be boiling. If I was to criticise anything breakfast was a bit meh but more than adequate. We will be back …

The room is large, clean, warm and comfortable, the environment is beautiful, the location is particularly convenient, go out is the Fifth Avenue Pedestrian Street, but it is quiet. The service is very good, the food quality is high, the rooftop pool has a good view, the rooftop bar eats and drinks well, the lounge chairs are comfortable, and the umbrellas are beautiful. We had enough of the sea in Cancun and chose this Hilton boutique on Carmen Beach, which was not close to the sea, but five minutes to the beach. Wall crack recommended!

It is NOT all inclusive and most of the resort smells like sewage! Anything on the beach is most likely you have to pay (the fancy beds, the food) Even the pool by the beach, the same chairs that are free on the beach you need to pay for and reserve at the poor nearby. Marley Coffee..not included, ice cream...not included, the Spa...not included Most of the staff are not aware of the happenings/way things are run on the resort. The guy giving out towels was unaware and surprised that chairs need to be paid and reserved around the pool near the beach. Workers gave the impression the Brasserie restaurant/buffet is reservation only, but when we went there they let us in no problem. Along with the luggage. Rooms are ready by 3pm and if you arrive hours early they will put your luggage away and serve whoever is present/bring them to their rooms before you when you are ready. (Recommend booking a later flight so you arrive after 3) We enjoyed the rooms, and DID have it serviced everyday, my only issue was the bathroom design. The shower design in villas makes it so it will leak out into the hallway. Slit in bathroom/toilet so you can see into. Gross/briny beach that is not really swimmable/deep, along with the pools , they are all about 5ft deep and warm Tips to survive The Fives: 1. DO NOT close the big glass door to your balcony if one of you is not in the room, you WILL be locked out and need to wave down employees to come let you back in. 2. USE interact for buying things if you run out of money, the ATM’s charge you $30 to use. 3. The monkeys will steal your items if they are not secured to you. Be careful when throwing things in trash, in case there is a possum inside. 4. DO NOT brush your teeth/rinse toothbrush with sink water in room, it smells 5. DO NOT eat the lettuce, or you will spend the next few weeks with stomach pain and consistent bathroom visits 6. Save your tip money for when you actually need it!!!...and you will (see following stories) We booked a few excursion via AirTransat/a worker named Dhyada. She was very pleasant and answered our questions...or so we thought. Our first excursion was snorkeling and visiting the Isle De Mujeres. Dhyada mentioned that we need $10 USD for a travel cost. (She failed to mention WHO to give this to) We are not that well versed in travelling, so we gave it to the bus driver and he kept it as a tip. When we arrived at the docks to leave, we didn't have any $, due to the agent saying we only needed it for souvenirs etc. We were bailed out and totally unaware that ”etc” meant EVERYTHING. When we arrived at the island (without any cash/cards whatsoever), we were greeted by the bathroom costing money, anywhere in the shade costing money, water from the bar costing money. Had we known we would have brought some, but we were lead to believe otherwise. We tried to plead with the caravans to take us back we don't want to stay in the blistering sun with no water for 3 hours. But they persisted t

I had the best week with friends and family at Mahekal. We had friends and family join us to celebrate my birthday and I can not thank enough all the staff that made our stay so special. Kind and friendly Marcos hosted our dinner night celebration and was running around trying to please us and make sure we had a good time. Enrique was always energetic and friendly trying to make sure we were enjoying our stay too. Yexiani was so sweet to my daughter and niece/nephew finding entertainment while we dined at Fuego… my daughter would look for her just after the first night! Jared and Alejandro served us drinks at the beach and pool and were super kind too! Made sure everyone was ok bringing food and drinks. We partied every night at Agave and were served by Tiburcio who also went above and beyond… we played our own music sometimes and as my husband mentioned it would be good to have drinking snacks, he gave us mixed nuts and left us with buckets of beer after closing time :) The staff was so kind that my friend’s friend was able to set up a yoga session under the palm trees for my birthday morning and they accommodated with the space, mats, incense, waters…. I am so thankful! Honestly one of the best trips of my life!

My husband and I haven’t gotten away in a few years and for the first time back out of the country I have to say the palm was a great experience . The front desk were very kind, Sandra Lopez gave us food spots and other fun actitives . We spoke about the culture and just a bunch of other stuff if I had to choose to visit again off the strength of her, I’d def pick the palm again . Our bartenders godofredo the security voile and moises, conie, emanual, when I tell you the whole team were just a great add in to playa del Carmen . I can’t wait to visit again and have the best hospitality in the area ! I hope to see them all again soon ! Thanks for a great time

1 star - Please read if you care for your credit history and money. I worked in the travel industry and often travel a few times a year. My fiancé and I upgraded to the “privilege” rooms paying $420USD. Allow me to list the issues 1) The room was not fully stocked and we had to have room service come again to stock the bar 2) Hairdryer did not work 3) The Jaccuzi in the bathtub was leaking and we had Maintenance fix it the next day (I have videos) 4) Upgrading gives you a wine bottle. We didn’t get this until the next day AND no wine glasses 5) Room was dirty and not cleaned properly all the days and basics missing like tissues and etc What was the point of paying this much for an upgrade? The butler didn’t even schedule my ride back from the room to the lobby for check out time although she promised to. Here is when it gets worse!!! KEEP reading please They gave us a sales presentation to become a member with them. 10,000USD. I asked them not to a hard inquiry on my credit and they did. They lied and not no one from the company is responding to me. I emailed them to cancel my agreement and everyone is bouncing me back and forth. The director of sales Roger and the sales representative Ray are scammers. They are not willing to resolve any issue with doing a hard check on my credit or compensation. I want both Roger and Ray to fix my credit with the company and provide compensation for this horrible experience. I will write my experience and reviews everywhere until my issues are resolved.

The hotel is an older hotel. The location is great for access to the beach and walk around 5th Ave. The bartenders and the travel shop/scuba shop were great the hotel maintenance and front desk staff were not the best. We did have issues with our rooms and they were fixed eventually except the king room that we booked was not available and we had to share a double bed. Iit’s an older hotel with musty smells and stuck drawers. The pool closed early on a Saturday night (8pm) but the mariachi/karaoke can play until 11pm and the noise will carry into the room. The kelp on the beach is filled with sand fleas and we came home with over 100 sand flea bites between the 5 of us. The buffet was ok but not worth $45 per day per person.

We stayed in PDC for 2 nights to shop, eat and enjoy the city. We have stayed at other small hotels before so this was not a new adventure for us. It’s been about 3 years since we last visited specifically PDC. I extensively research every place we stay… I wish someone would have left a more candid review. Upon arrival we were excited that our room was ready. We had an early flight and traffic from Cancun was not a problem so arrived around 1pm. Woman at the front desk was really helpful and check in was quick. Hotel lobby and courtyard was as pictured. Very picturesque so far so good. To get to our room, there was no elevator, not uncommon just needed a few minutes to prepare for the sweat to start pouring. Ha! My husband had all of his luggage handled and the lady from the front desk helped me with mine. To be fair, I did not upgrade our room. I reserved a standard king room. With the hotel being a Wyndham property and the price being generally more $$ then other hotels in the area, I felt confident that for 2 nights we would be fine. Boooooo… Our room consisted of a king bed, minuscule refrigerator, skinny table/credenza thing, like a 24in TV, 1 small hung crooked picture over the bed, closet with a safe and small bathroom. There were 2 chairs outside of the entrance door which were basically in the courtyard hallway overlooking the breakfast area. The walls in the bedroom were scuffed and dented everywhere. There was zero natural light in the bedroom as there were no windows (zero) and the patio entrance doors were well enclosed in the shade of the courtyard. The lights in the room were stark white fluorescent. I’ve never seen that before in Mexico. Yuck. Bathroom… shower was fine. Sink water pressure was a trickle when the toilet was flushed which took forever to make a full cycle. We arrived on a Saturday and that night there was a family in the courtyard. The husband and wife were SCREAMING at each other and they had a small child that was BALLING at the top of its lungs for about 2 hours. I tried calling the front desk a bunch of times to have someone check in them but no one ever answered. I was not going out there. Eventually they stopped and it was quiet. I was ready to leave the same night we arrived and go somewhere else. Husband talked me off the ledge and we stayed. I’m just so disappointed that this is somehow a Wyndham property. We love PDC and will be back but will never even consider staying here again.

The Reef Playacar was such a lovely experience. The grounds are gorgeous with lush jungle plants everywhere. One of the many highlights was the staff. They were so friendly and attentive. Agustin, the mixologist, is a true artist!! He made the most beautiful drinks I’ve ever seen. The flavors were balanced and delicious and he designed drinks based on what we liked. We were celebrating a birthday and Agustin, Santiago, Alejandro, Isela, Liner and Andrix made it so special.
