2026 Reviews: Boonkeys Surf Lodge Reviews from Real Guests.

Stayed at Boonkeys as a one night stop whilst cycling Land's End to Exeter on a bank holiday weekend. There was nothing else available in Newquay that weekend. Having read the reviews on here, arrived with some trepidation. The manager helped us lock up our bikes round the back, then we found that our 5-bunk room wasn't available due to overbooking. A stag party of posh lads turned up at the same time but the guy managed to get everyone sorted. Three of us fifty-something blokes ended up in a dorm with two French girls, I don't know who was more surprised but we got on fine. The other two of us were in with the stag party I think, and a 'long-term resident'. Strong vibes of The Beach. Anyway, we all slept OK and were out early doors so probably had a better experience than most. Newquay was great with lots of interesting places to eat and drink, I will return but probably not to Boonkeys.

I stayed here whilst walking the footpath. It was fine for what I needed. The guy checking me in put me in a room depending on whether I was going out or having an early night. I thought this was great. The room was a good size for 6 people. The bathroom was small though and hard to dry yourself in. The bed was quite uncomfortable with springs digging in all night, but for the price it was pretty good to be fair. Would stay again.

I’ve written another review on Boonkeys Surf Lodge in more detail but thought I’d write one on here too. I stayed here with 3 friends while going to a rave at Bertie’s Nightclub, which is only a 5 minute walk from Boonkeys. Craig was working when we stayed and he made our visit a lot more enjoyable, making sure we were comfortable on his first shift. He even spoke to us when we were coming back as he came outside for a cigarette reassuring us and making us feel more comfortable from the scary night we had, he’s a real asset to the company and we both helped a girl in away from a man who was trying to take her home. He has really good intentions and was definitely someone we could trust. The room was good and big for the 3 of us. Just a decent place to stay for one night.
