I can't lie. Brill location, super central. HOWEVER! That's where the good ends and the madness begins... (Copy and pasted from my removed review on trip advisor 😕) don't let them silence being outted for their incredibly dodgy behaviour... Durty Nellys 1,547 reviews 1 ★ 🚫 AVOID, the security will give the master key to their friends to let them into Ur room to 'clean' at 3am. Tried to tell me it was normal for this to happen in hostels, I've stayed all over Amsterdam and even other hostels in other parts of the world... They don't clean when you're asleep, don't let them convince you this is normal, I should have called the police but didn't want to ruins my friends holiday. Also, I was threatened with being kicked out and having the Dutch police called on me because I got angry at the security for giving the ”cleaner” a key to our room for him to come in, clean nothing and then leave. The old security guy was actually asleep at his desk watching YouTube videos when I did go down to question him in anger. So please be warned. They're running an unusual game at Durty Nelly's, don't trust them, even the seemingly nice owner tried to convince me in the morning that I was in the wrong for questioning why there was a man in my room at 3:37am. Tbh they're probably all in on it and split the profit. So if you're reading this and are considering staying here please don't you'll likely regret it. and if you're reading this and you work at Durty Nelly's, you should be ashamed of yourself for letting this happen... EDIT: They do NOT want you to see this... they flagged and removed this review because of 'profanity' yet I didn't swear once. EDIT edit: it was removed for a third time... Gunna use chatgpt to keep rewriting this until Google /duttynellys accepts. EDIT (After their reply): Funny how you weren't willing to discuss it with me in person but now months and months later you're completely available to talk about how insane your cleaning schedule is... And it's also funny how in your own words, for a 2nd time now ”Race and discrimination” is being mentioned. I didn't mention once about the dudes race, and I obviously wouldn't give a damn about where he's from... He shouldn't be in my room whilst my friends are sleeping at 3:30am, that IS irregular. And to claim that's how hostels do it is just a straight out lie. You're so obviously just liers trying to cover yourselves because you clearly profit off of the things your staff steal for you. It's honestly so telling that you mentioned any of that, trying to make me look like a racist or something, it's actually laughable. The old man head of security tried to do exactly the same thing when I went downstairs at roughly 4:00am unable to sleep asking: ”Why would you give ANYONE the master security key card at 3:30am?” It was one of the initial reasons for my suspicion that this happens regularly and that I wasn't the first to come to you with my concerns... When on a Business trip to Amsterdam I stayed just one night at ”Rosalia's Menagerie Inn Upstairs” and I loved it... It has just 6 individually styled boutique rooms and mine (a King bed double) was comfortable and provided everything I needed for my stay. The owner Rachel Bonnewell was lovely and treated me with warmth and kindness from check-in to check-out, she was the perfect host. I loved the unique and quirky decor and the personally prepared breakfast was delicious and a great start to my day walking Amsterdam. The hotel location was perfect also in Central Amsterdam, I literally walked everywhere during my 2 days in the City. My room was €150 per night with breakfast. The Inn is, as in the name, 'upstairs' and the stairs are typical of old Dutch houses in as much as climbing them is not for anyone who has ill health or any mobility issues... Note, there is no lift and the stairs are narrow, steep and twisty. I will certainly stay again and hope to do so in the Summer of 2024.

Having read the reviews I was a little worried about staying at the hotel! I really didn't need to have worried! The sheets were clean the bathroom was clean the bedroom was a bit dusty behind the beds but nothing that worried me too much. The beds are very small but comfortable. Fabulous location minutes walk to everything! The staff were on the whole friendly and helpful. Don't be put off by the bad reviews this hotel is a great place superb for the price.

Such amazing value for money. The location was perfect and we hadn’t been before but it’s a ten mineuets walk from the train and right in the centre. The room was clean and the staff always so helpful. They have a left luggage area and check out was smooth. Room was a little noisy on the street but not a disturbance to the stay and is of course expected when the location is central. The stairs are frequently mentioned in reviews but no problem for the able bodied. Will be staying again!

The location of this place was almost perfect, really close to ****************** and City centre. We were able to get literally everywhere by foot which was amazing. At night time it would get a little sketch, but I never necessarily felt unsafe. The only thing is that when my partner and I arrived, the bathroom smelled like pee and mold. There also appeared to be black mold in the shower in the grout. We propped the door open to clear out the stench, and I brought my own wipes where I just went through and cleaned the bathroom myself. The carpeted floors also felt soggy. We would have requested another room but reading past reviews it seems almost all rooms have had this issue. The owner seems to respond to every single negative review with a defensive argument which should have been a red flag for me to begin with. If you’re okay with sacrificing a little bit of cleanliness/comfortability for the cost/location then I recommend, but I personally would not stay here again.

The cute exterior and interior are impressive! The 24-hour reception was friendly and overall service satisfaction was high. In addition, it is about a 3-minute walk from the station, and it is a flat road without gravel or dirt, so it was very convenient to come and go. Due to my schedule, I checked in late at night and only stayed one night, but I fully intend to visit again the next time I go to Amsterdam. :)

Be aware of the a well-designed process of this hotel that can your stay a nightmare. Me and my family came to Amsterdam for short vacation in July, not for the first time so I know what to expect there in terms of hotels standards etc. My wife and daughter came one day before me, and once arrived at the hotel and entered the room, they realized it was so hot and humid, that there was no chance they can stay there (especially in case one had high blood pressure or any kind of heart/health issue). Of course, they asked the front desk for any type of solution but there was no intention to solve this, what so ever (they were offered a fan). The only option they were left with was to book a different hotel in vicinity and move from there as soon as they can - this is how bad conditions were. With all the arguments we had, hotel had no intention to offer refund, voucher, discount or any other complimentary or symbolic token of appreciation. What became evident afterwards, is that this is a deliberate process, planned in advance - hotel sends an ”no air condition” email message just 1 or 2 days before the cancellation deadline to be formally correct and they have ”ready-made” answers. While I was trying to solve the issue next day, I've witnessed a young couple with a 6-month baby from West Virginia that had to check out a day earlier because of the same reason, and another guest concerned about the heat and trying to understand these conditions via a phone call - but the front desk agent ”reeled” him in to book, with no intention to warn about the inhumane conditions. All together, not just a terrible hotel but a case of although formally correct process, clearly deliberately misleading and situation that represents a health risk.

Not quite sure why there are so many negative reviews calling this place unacceptable, for the price you pay you’re definitely getting your moneys worth and some. The male young receptionist was friendly at check in and guided us to our room (although he didn’t know some answers about basic questions about the area, such as he incorrectly told us the wrong time for the last trams, he was very kind but maybe the staff could be told some answers to the most common questions). The junior suite was extremely spacious, had a lovely bathroom, lots of mirrors which was nice, large bed and lots of light windows overlooking the dock. The room was fab, however like some other reviews state sometimes there was a mysterious odour, particularly on the last day, but it wasn’t unbearable. Could definitely do with some harder mattresses which would definitely improve everyone’s experience but I still slept perfectly. Location is perfect for the price, only a 14min tram away from Amsterdam Centraal. The coffee pods and machine in the room were nice but could also put some biscuits there too which would be amazing. Maybe needs a repaint of the room but it’s safe to say i’d definitely stay again

After the check-in, I encountered a series of problems. The front desk arranged people to help me solve the problem. The service was very good. My suitcase is broken, and the hotel is looking for someone to help me get it. Then the skinny is too slippery to open the door. The front desk is looking for repairs. I can wrap the tape on the handle to facilitate my access and the hotel steak is super delicious.

This review is a bit divided in the sense that the hotel is very central to pretty well all you want to see. But it is not for those who have mobility problems as the first thing you are faced with before even seeing reception is a very steep flight of 15 or so steps which you have to get your suitcase up with! However reception staff are extremely helpful and kind and could not have done too much for us The building is a real Amsterdam tall house and as a result is a warren of rooms and corridors and steep flights of stairs. Most rooms do not have ensuite. It is slightly shabby and the decor is a bit old fashioned but it all seemed clean Breakfast was ok but not amazing However the warmth and kindness of the staff did so much to make our stay enjoyable

Eccentric place: one of two “hotels” located in what is essentially a building of residential apartments. The Amadi has the reception on the 4th floor and our room was on the 2nd. Stairs/lift take you past residential floors. Pros: Manager was really helpful when we needed to get to the local hospital. Reasonably good location just outside the main canal ring but within walking distance of everything, with tram stops nearby. Local area has plenty of eateries. Room quiet and bed comfortable. Cons: Over-priced for what it is - feels more 3 star than 4 star. No breakfast facilities (though plenty of places nearby) Odd-shaped room with barely any space on one side of the bed. Temperature control on aircon didn’t seem to do anything. Coffee machine didn’t work - a few drips after a lot of straining. And nothing for non-coffee drinkers. List of TV channels didn’t fit with actual channels. BBC1 and BBC2 listed but we never found them. Bathroom poorly designed - a small circular sink with a really small shelf. A slight smell of drains.

We had a magnificent stay at De ware Jacob Hotel with a family of five at the end of 2020. With the Covid restrictions it was not easy to travel around, but nonetheless we decided to spend a weekend in Amsterdam benefitting from the beauty of the city with fewer tourists at this moment in time. This Hotel was recommended to us as a cosy newly renovated boutique hotel at the heart of the Museum District, and the price was really good, so we were not disappointed. Our stay was even more memorable than expected. We were received by the very friendly owner and treated with a glass of Cava. The suites and the family rooms were very nice and spacious, we also benefitted from an upgrade, which was a nice gesture. A nice sushi dinner was delivered from a nearby restaurant and we enjoyed it in the lounge with a nice restaurant ambiance. We were pleasantly shocked to be given the variety of Georgian natural wines tasting by the host, something we never tried before, accompanied by the delicious strawberry covered in chocolate. Fantastic!! Breakfast was nicely presented, had nice selection and we were also offered a glass of Prosecco to start the day, but instead decided to swap it for extra cappuccinos and a homemade cake on the house. The city itself was delightful, being not so crowded as usual. We really enjoyed walking in the nearby park. Also went to The Red Light district which was absolutely empty, something unforgettable and special!!! It was indeed a very pleasant break in beautiful Amsterdam.

Me and my friend booked this hotel as there were good reviews, which is very important to us as we came from Norway to stay there for 6 days. It was also our first time in Amsterdam and were not familiar with the location. We were first checked into a wrong room than the one we had booked, and were told that we could move the next morning to another one. After we were moved to a bigger room, they told us we had to pay 50 euros due to the ”cleaning from the other room”, which we expect to be included in the price we already paid for our stay. Never experienced this before. Some staff don't smile, don't say hello, and looked strange at us when we walked through the reception. The next days our new room was not cleaned at all, one day they only came to make the bed, the next day they only came with new towels on the door. One day the cleaning lady also rushed in without knocking while we were in bed, which we thought was very unprofessional. We did not feel comfortable or safe at all staying here. We will not be going back here. Location is also pretty far from the centrum

We recently visited Amsterdam for a 3 day trip and the Clemens Hotel was great! Centrally located and within walking distance of all tourist spots and shops. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. They took our bags to the room, greeted us with a complimentary beverage on arrival, lent us an adaptor for our phone charger and stored our bags on departure day with no fuss at all. We didn’t feel rushed and immediately felt at ease on arrival. The complimentary breakfast was lovely with scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit, yoghurt and cereals on offer. We stayed in a room on the third floor which was a little small but very comfortable and clean with a lovely hot shower perfect after a day of exploring. The only negative I can see to this hotel is the very steep stairs, which we managed with but they would be a challenge for some. Overall a lovely stay and great hospitality. Thank you

I've read a few reviews before going there, and I do understand where some are coming from, but definitely not others... the rooms are indeed small, but they have all the space you need, specially if you're travelling alone. You can barely hear the noise outside (you can hear the planes flying by or the ambulance on the street, but it's very muffled) and the rooms have good sound insulation + heating. The issue is the other clients staying at the inn that don't have common sense and respect for anyone else and just arrive late at night screaming and talking loud for no reason... you really can't blame the hotel for that. The public transportation is amazing there, with tram and direct bus from Schipol airport nearby. I've went to a concert in Melkweg, so also very close to the arena, which was the purpose of my trip. It's pretty much center Amsterdam, so it is an old building, so the stairs are a bit small. It wasn't my case, because I had only a small bag, but the hotel staff asked the couple in front of me if they needed help carrying their bags upstairs. So the staff goes extra and beyond to try to be helpful. Would return there a next time.

Marvellous location just off the Museumplein. can walk to the van Gogh and RijkMuseum in 5-10 minutes. We got an executive room on the 4th floor - can get the lift. View from the top is good, and is very quiet considering the location. Street parallel is the top-end shopping street in Amsterdam. Room was compact, with the basin in the hall as the bathroom had a bath as well as a shower and toilet; 2 attached twin beds with eco-conscious mattress and duvet. Air conditioning worked well. had a coffee/tea machine but didn't need it. Breakfast was buffet with good choice of local farmer foods. Ample coffee from the machine. The place is fairly clean, but there are some major issues: 1. The locker is tiny 2. The room gets SUPER hot at night. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and it has never been this bad, especially when it's under 20 degrees celsius outside. The fan was on full blast but the windows didn't open. I had to leave in the middle of the night because it was so bad. 3. The staff wasn't very helpful. The guy seemed unmotivated to help me be more comfortable or find my way to a hotel once I decided to leave. Eventually b He did call me a cab but this was after I walked around Amsterdam for an hour at 2am trying to find a hotel. I would NOT stay here if I were you. The hotel wasn't even that much more expe sive in the end, and you will thank yourself for paying extra for a decent sleep.

It's not our first time at the hotel. Last time was just before lockdown in 2020. Nothing has changed. it's as good as ever. We had a room at the back of the hotel this time as opposed to the front. The room was a slightly strange shape as some are here. It was spotlessly clean, beds are extremely comfortable, the shower excellent and always nice and hot. The rooms are basic but have everything you need, you don't visit Amsterdam to stay in your room. The hotel staff are excellent, friendly, helpful and very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. There is an excellent coffee machine in the lobby, which is free to use for guests. Breakfast, an excellent choice of hot and cold food, pastries, juices, hot drinks, well worth paying extra for. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre. Well done again, and I'm sure we'll see you again soon.

Lovely 3 star hotel. Could easily be made a 4 star with some improvements. Great fireplace to keep toasty in reception, nice coffee and rooms clean and functional. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and the balcony was a nice touch. A small safe was provided for free which was great, but no kettle or tea and coffee or fridge available in the room. Staff were all very friendly and spoke good English. Hotel is 10-15 min walk from shops and restaurants and public transport just outside. Overall, good value for money and a very comfortable stay. We would stay again :)
