Our room was quite small and had a view of some abandoned old building over the road. But it was comfortable and well appointed. The location is good and it was excellent to be Abe to park our hire car in the grounds, though it would probably have been fine just across the road at the S railway station. We walked not a long way and found a small restaurant belt where we had dinner. It seems on a warm Sunday afternoon Eis is all the rage as the Eis shops were doing very well. The really great feature of the UHU establishment is the superb breakfast. The spread is very large and includes cereals, breads, fresh fruits, yoghurts, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, hot food and tea and coffee (though I am yet to find a decent coffee in Europe). I should have eaten more than I did!

Stranded in the nothing near Cologne for a problem with my car, I picked up the first place i could find resembling a pension or hotel. It happened to be the Lorien. Location on one of the main roads, near gas station and Burger King. On the reception a near friendly young man, but totally disinterested about his job. But at least a room was free. I was told immediately: only cash payment and no breakfast. Ok, food you can find and a roof is better then nothing. The lift was functioning, with a bit of "age" noise. The corridor told at first glance to be in need of refurbishing. The room was better then expected from the corridor, Low quality furniture, but all the necessary. Not all that clean, but anyway better as rough places I had to visit before. Walls, here too in need of work. The surprise was the bathroom, the nicest place of this hotel. Conclusion: if you really need a shelter, is good enough. If you want something good, look elsewhere.

Yes, this hotel is not the one you want, if you are in town to sightsee. It is a little out of bounce - but for my purpose it was the best choice. The building looks like it was something other than a hotel - but the inside is so neatly kept and the staff is so friendly and helpful - you'd miss out on a warm welcome to Cologne. The room rates are perfect, the breakfast is good - the rooms are spacious and clean, the beds are comfy and cosy. No complaints. I didn't even hear the planes crossing - windows closed. Can't speak for the summer though. Other than that: Would go back.

There were two nice things about this hotel: the doormen and the location. And that is it. Maybe my opinion is colored by the fact that I arrived with a broken arm, and when I asked for help the woman at the desk basically pointed to the door and told me to "turn left, turn right, turn left and there should be an Urgent Care." Thanks for that, because I'm not from here, and what with my broken arm and all, I don't feel like getting lost. The next thing was that I arrived a day late due to a snowstorm, and yet my room wasn't ready. I was supposed arrive the night before, so how was it that the room that was ready eight hours ago wasn't available? The front desk promised to text me as soon as the room was available and the bellman checked my bags. I had to get to my conference, so I left. I never received a text all day. When I returned to the hotel at 6 pm, I still had to wait for them to figure out a room for me. Room service was a joke. One night, I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino. It arrived with the cap still on, which required a bottle opener. There are no amenities in the room (no bottle openers, no coffee maker, etc.), so I called the front desk for a bottle opener. They told me to call the restaurant. I called the restaurant. They told me to call the OTHER restaurant. Finally, a half hour later, my stupid bottle of water was opened. I ordered a glass of red wine through room service. It arrived in a plastic to-go cup with plastic wrap over the top. I ordered a plate of cheeses which were hard as rocks. Bread was stale. All food and drink was delivered in a brown paper bag. The room was clean, but the bathroom was not. Aside from being old and outdated, which doesn't bother me, shelves and tiles were covered a thick layer of dirt. The shower head needed replacing. If I had any questions for the front desk, the answer was always, "No" or "I don't know." Upon checkout, it turned out that even though I called ahead to let them know I would not be arriving as scheduled, they still charged me for the night. Given the hassle of the rest of my stay, this was just another big disappointment. The view from my room was lovely and the location was tremendous. I know NY hotels are expensive, but I did a lot of price comps before booking this and I will tell you I know I would have had a much nicer stay at any of the other hotels I chose. This one promised history and posh service, and all I got was bad attitude and subpar services. I do NOT recommend it.

We have just come back from our trip to Cologne and we absolutely loved it. We think it’s possibly the best trip we’ve had together in 7 years. What a beautiful city! The hotel is in a perfect spot for exploring the city - so close to the train station but couldn’t hear a sound coming from it! Our room was at the back of the property on the first floor so we didn’t get much of a view but didn’t mind as we weren’t going to stay in the room for a long time - literally to shower and sleep. The room was small but perfect for us, there was only two of us staying in the hotel. It was clean and tidy when we arrived. There wasn’t a wardrobe or any drawer space just a couple of hangers in a tiny gap - this wasn’t a problem at all, I managed to hang up every item of clothing I took, the gap was deceiving! You could actually fit a lot of stuff in. The pillows were awful - that’s the only negative I have to say about the hotel and in all fairness I suppose if I asked for another pillow I probably would have had one. The bathroom was small but clean and it was cleaned every day when we were there. The shower was good too! People are too quick on here to judge the place. I found the breakfast really nice and plenty to choose from and the staff were very polite and helpful. When we left, the lady (I don’t know your name sorry!) working there gave us 2 Kolsch glasses as a gift :) I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel and Cologne itself to anyone who is looking to go. Thank you very much Hotel Muller :)

The first thing you notice is the warmth of the welcome from the hotel owner, and this feeling of warmth and the 'personal touch' continues throughout your stay. Let's be clear, this is a small hotel operating essentially a 'bed and breakfast' service, so don't expect a bar or lounges - you don't need them because this hotel is in a paved pedestrian area, with several restaurants, bistros and bar-cafes within a few minutes, including an excellent one with good food immediately next door. The rooms are small, but extremely clean and comfortable, but be warned, if you have walking difficulties, there is no elevator - just a winding staircase. Also don't forget to keep your key with you, the hotel is not staffed past about 21.00 hrs, so you'll need your key to get into the hotel, not alone your room. Also, because of its position on the street amid bars, if you have your windows open (essential in the warm weather as there is no A/C) then expect street noise until about 23.00, and from about 05.00 when city vehicles come to empty bins etc. Overall, the friendliness of this hotel marks it out as excellent, and one to which I'd return

Located two long blocks from the Piusstrasse U-bahn station, this is in a very quiet part of the city, a family run hotel. Very friendly desk people, who also serve as the bartenders. The hotel itself is small, but it is very uncommercial, certainly not like the large chain hotels. Our room was called "double comfort". It was effectively two twin beds with firm mattresses and individual duvets on each. Our bathroom should an efficient use of space. A very modern shower, no bathtub. Breakfast at the hotel was €9.5, not a feast by any means, but satisfactory. Windows open in in, but their movement is limited. We never felt anything but secure, even with the open window on 3rd floor. Tiny elevator, two people with one suitcase each with almost fill it. We would certainly come back again if we come to Cologne.

We arrived there early afternoon, but nobody was there. I had to call a posted number through my American cell phone (thus an international call) to get the hotel manager to check us in. Other than this I must say that the hotel is in excellent shape: very clean, and recently updated. Rooms are small, but comfortable. We had no issues with noise. The nights were very quiet despite the location in the center of the city. Just don't expect any service. It seems the hotel is run by one single hotel manager, and he tries to be everywhere and do everything. We asked for a second key so that my partner could go out independently. We were told there is no second key for guests available because they get lost etc. - I'm not interested in this, I just needed a second key. Also: the bar at the entrance is a bit obscure. It was never open, which is probably a good thing as it was very quiet. No breakfast offered (which is not a proble as there are bakeries with very good coffee and pastries right around the corner). If you need a comfortable place for a couple of days for sightseeing in downtown Cologne, this hotel is ideal. Just don't expect any hotel service of any kind.

7 star welcome in the reception. By name, interesting in what to explore in the city, how to park. What time I want breakfast next morning, any requests? Handling bags. Hotel with focus on details, quality, Cousy, feel good, yeah guest in centrum from the very first step into the hotel. Room and toilet in same room, typical German. But this was made in an excellent way, Cousy, classic and modern. High quality with Ritual products, thick towels, toilet paper high quality with harts. Yes! Details matter and make the different. No air-condition, but hotel located in a quite area downtown city centre. Why you can sleep with open windows. Close to everything, metro, restaurants, shopping, Kölner Dome, The river, just enjoy. Breakfast - how lucky! Breakfast displayed on top of piano, how cool is that? Tasty, eggs made by order, quality products. Served in excellent, Cousy and relaxing surroundings. Great start of day. I just asking, what not to like? Exactly, this hotel have 4 stars but much better than many 5 stars hotels! I will be back next time I am in Köln.

We arrived early on our arrival date and were able to use the spa facilities immediately. Great to start to unwind after a red-eye start. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. A stay here is for the facilities and not the room. All staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. The Spa is fantastic with a large variety of saunas, a steam bath, jacuzzis, an indoor pool and a really warm outdoor brine pool (which is best after dark). Typically for Germany the saunas etc are nude and mixed. Most pool users are nude too. In fact someone wearing swimwear looks really out of place, so when in Colgne... Not going to suit if you're uncomfortable with your own or other people's nudity. We had breakfast one morning. It was good quality and very substantial. If your looking for the typical Irish or UK fry up you won't find it. Would recommend packing your own pool shoes. Hotel is a 5 minute walk to main shopping precinct and 15-20 minutes from the Cathedral. There is also a free Parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am (sharp!) In the nearby Nagasaki-Hiroshima park (a little over 1km from hotel). Would highly recommend this hotel for a total chill out break - we'll be back!

This hotel is located on a nice quiet side street walking distance from the train station and the cathedral (as well as the cathedral Christmas Market if you are there during that time of year). The reception staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and modern. We had a room overlooking the street but it was extremely quiet at night. Great buffet breakfast in the morning with plenty of choices. There is a bar in the lobby - my husband was not impressed with the red wine but the white wine was quite good and even if a glass cost 6 euros it was a large portion. One thing they could do is better check their supplies as one night when we stopped at the bar before heading to our hotel rooms they had to say 'no' to a lot of our requests because they had run out (for instance Amaretto, Baileys). Minor detail though. There is on site parking but you cannot reserve in advance (I think it is 19 euros per night) - if you arrive by car you just check with reception to see if there is still room in the garage (we counted about 16 parking slots in the garage when we went to collect the car at the end of our stay). Overall I think this hotel is great and highly recommend.

Like the other reviewer I was here on business for 3 days. This was one of the most relaxing hotel stays I have and in quite awhile. Communication from the hotel after I booked the room was top notch, everything was well communicated in advance. Please make sure you reserve parking as trying to find a spot in the area can take awhile as its a residential area with very crowded streets. The rooms are beautiful, well decorated, and very clean. The room came with a small minibar of snacks and drinks which was appreciated. The wifi is pretty good, much faster than many of the big name hotels I stay at. Then, of course, I had the whirlpool tub, which after a long day is a pretty sweet way to relax. The room looks like it has been recently renovated as the fixtures are all relatively new. The bathroom floor is heated and the walk in shower with raintree is large with great water pressure. The surrounding neighborhood has many options for dining. There is also a number of grocery stores just one block over. This may become my new go to when I am in Koln!

Decent 3-star hotel with clean rooms. We had a 3-person room which was spacious enough. Friendly staff. Biggest trump is the perfect location in the city centre. For us it was the perfect location to explore the various Cologne Christmas markets. Room itself was very warm, even though it was winter. Make sure to open the window(s) at night to avoid waking up due to it being too hot in the room (which happened to us). Pillows also not very comfortable. WiFi was only for 2 devices (unexplainable in these times when you book a room for 3 people, where everyone has more than 1 device). On top, it worked really slow, streaming a video was just impossible. There is a possibility to park in the garage below the hotel for €15 per night (you have to reserve by making a phone call on the day of your arrival).

I came to Germany for surgery so I wanted to find a hotel that was clean and had facilities for cooking. Upon arrival the room I had booked didn't have a kitchen even though it was shown on the photos nor did it have towels so I couldn't take a shower. I called the number I was given and spoke to Daniel who was a pleasure to talk to at 1am and he changed the room for me. When I arrived back to the hotel after spending a night in hospital they had changed the room and moved my luggage as Daniel told me they would. At this point I couldn't move from the bed so it wasn't until my boyfriend arrived that we realised there was nothing to cook with. We had one deep pan and nothing to clean the dishes. This is something you'll have to buy yourself... The kettle was full of limescale and there was no tea or coffee which I thought this was always something hotels offer? One evening my boyfriend was in the kitchen reading his book when he heard something drop to the floor and saw a rat running around the kitchen. Not something you want when you're trying to keep infection levels low. We called again and spoke to Laura who changed our room instantly. We moved down to the first floor from being on the fourth and noticed all the mousetraps in the rooms were full of dust and clearly not doing their job. Not ideal if you come with children and they get curious touching them. We was told it probably got in from leaving the door open to the terrace....? Outside of the window there was a dead mouse also so obviously it must be a problem. The whole time we was in this room our bed sheets wasn't changed once and the only person you saw in the hotel was the cleaner who didn't speak English or German. We had to ask him 3 times for extra toilet paper and it seems all he did was refold the duvet and sweep the floor. Regarding the situation with the rat we was offered a voucher to come again for free but we declined as we wasn't there on vacation in the first place, didn't plan on going back nor would we want to stay in their hotel again, I asked for an alternative compensation but didn't get a reply. The staff were wonderful though. Both Daniel and Laura were very helpful but it seems management need to make some big changes to the way they run the hotel. The way it is now I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone.

Not your typical hotel, bit hidden away in a residential area. The room is spacious, had an excellent bed and shower and the staff is very friendly and even stayed a bit longer as I didn't get there within reception times. Nevertheless very friendly and welcoming, excellent! The price/quality level is above average. Metro and team are closeby. Parking your car can be a bit of a hassle as the hotel is in a pay zone with multiple shops around. Free parking areas closeby are typically overcrowded. Nevertheless I would definitely recommend this hotel!

I deliberately waited to write this review. The experience I had at the Triton Hotel was fantastic. I stayed from the 10th of December to when I left on the 28th of December. The room was clean, quiet and had everything you needed. If there was something you needed that was not there, the staff did their best to fulfill your needs. There is a fantastic Restaurant for the evening meal and the food was just divine. Susanne and her staff treat you royally. There was Geter, Axel, and Iona in the Bar and restaurant area. Geter did not speak english but everyone else did and eventually Geter and I communicated to the point, language was not a problem. There was a white haired gentleman that worked the desk and I want to say the name was Steven that brought such a nice air to the business. Very stately and elegant in his manner, he brought a great degree of professionalism to the hotel and the morning breakfast they served in the way he conducted himself. Every person on the staff added to the hotel experience from the young lady that worked the Breakfast buffet, to the young maid who didn't speak english, the cooks, the girls that worked in the bar that I never really got to know to Geter, Axel, and Iona. But it does not stop there. Through my stupidity I locked my self out one night and got back in 5 hours later. I snuck up to my room to get a couple hours sleep and came down about 15 minutes late for breakfast. When I explained to Susanne what I had done wrong, she told me to sit and the next thing I know the owner of the hotel served me a traditional Cologne breakfast that she had cooked herself. Then there was an added bonus to the place and that was the people that came into their bar to spend a little time. Aegon, Stephanie, Paul, the Lady Doctor and so many others. They all knew I was that dumb American but before my visit was over, I felt like one of the family at the place. Especially when I went to say goodbye and Geter came out from the bar, and had to shake my hand before I left and give a hug of friendship. It was truly beyond anything I expected to happen.

The location is very good, right next to the Cologne Cathedral, the cathedral can be seen from the window of the room. The transportation is also convenient, just inside the Cologne main railway station building. The distance from the hotel to the station is less than 400 meters. The soundproofing of the room is very good. The catch is that there is no kettle in the room, and the hot water has to be fetched from the bar downstairs.

This is not a fancy place to stay, but it is definitely the right price and it's well kept and clean. Don't expect large rooms. It's a place you stay when you expect to tour the city, not be lazy in the hotel. It does have wifi, which worked well and was easy to log into. I had my own toilette, but it was detached... Just something to keep in mind if you're looking to stay here. The shower was in my own room, however, which meant I didn't have to walk down the hall in my pj's. It's located a little away from the hustle of the really touristy area but still within walking distance. The only real downfall about its location is that it's tucked away in a small street so I was definitely glad I took a taxi from the train station or I wouldn't have found it.

This hotel gets my full rating - not for the hotel, though. Simply for the drama. The concept is well meant but badly executed. Yes, everything reeks of style but on a closer look it comes with a lot of flaws. The Hotel Black is built into what might have been an old factory building. This seems to bring with it some issue with the ventilation since you are exposed to a constant hum even if you turn off the air condition. Which you actually need as a heater when you stay there in winter. My room got cold pretty quickly. The bathroom was facinating. It was fascinating how really every single board, every towel holder could barely hang on its hinges. Took a towel from the rack above the bathtub and the whole thing came crashing down (I caught it, actually). Every screw in there was loose. The soap dispenser had already fallen from the wall at an earlier occasion. The room didn´t exactly seem old or worn but really badly assembled. As if it came from an IKEA kit. Okay… so why do I still give it 5 points? Well, a night in the Hotel Black comes with a large topping of human drama you normally need a Netflix account for. I leave my room to have breakfast. The lady at the reception stares at me with big eyes. What´s my name? I tell her. There´s a list. She cannot find me. I show her my key card, give her my room number. She frowns as if I was some kind of scammer. She finally finds me on the computer. And, well… sorry, but I can´t have breakfast since her colleague from last night booked me in for a slot at 10:30 and it is now only 09:30. I explain that there is a little bit of a misunderstanding. What I actually HAVE told the - very nice - guy from the evening shift was that I had to finish and go packing at 10:30 since I needed to check out at 11:00 and get on my way to a business meeting. Her answer to that was revealing - from a psychological point of view. She stated that I should not argue with her and show some respect even if she was only the receptionist. Thing is, I actually only tried to tell her how that 10:30 misunderstanding might have happened and it never even crossed my mind that being a receptionist might be a crappy or depressing or whatever job. I am self-employed and had enough times when I had to juggle with my finances to be any kind of elitist bastard. Okay, so there was clearly an issue and she even told me that there were only few guests and I couldn´t have any breakfast if I had given her colleague the wrong time. It went full Twin Peaks from there… ending in a bizarre battle of arguments. With me ending up in a supermarket to buy some rolls. When I came back I asked if I could at least get some coffee. She answered with a smirk that there was a coffee maker in my room. The coffee maker worked, though. Nice coffee maker. Coffee maker was my only friend at Hotel Black. Check out was quick. Paid the full rate, of course. So… if you feel an urgent need for an emotional thrill - go there! If you are an able craftsman brin

My husband and I had very disappointing experiences at this hotel. Five months ago we had booked a double, as part of a group of my husband's former Cologne schoolmates who were celebrating their graduation anniversary. When we arrived (as the first guests of the group), we were given a room on the top floor that wasn't only tiny but had a slanted ceiling, plus a bedside lamp missing on that side of the bed. We asked if we could be moved to another room with a straight ceiling, but were told everything was booked out. As we found out later, none of my husband's former classmates and their spouses -- who arrived hours after us and paid the same rates for their rooms! -- had to deal with a slanted ceiling; they were all housed on lower floors with straight celings! For two days my husband, who is in his seventies, would bang his head into that darn ceiling and/or have to crook his neck! Why in the world did the front desk personnel not move us, the only foreigners in the group, despite our immediate request to one of the lower rooms, instead lied to us that none were available? Makes me suspicious that we were treated differently -- worse than my husband's German former schoolmates -- because we were the only foreigners / Americans... In addition, the incompetent front desk gave us wrong or misleading information on two different occasions that cost us time and caused some trouble: A female employee sent us to a non-existent banking machine, and a male attendant gave us completely wrong information about our group's dinner reservation in the adjacent Malzmuehle restaurant, causing unpleasant confusion. Also, our room lacked A/C, which might be a huge problem during the warmer season.

Just spent 3 nights here - the hotel was very reasonably priced for a family of 4. The location is very good, a 10 min walk to the Cathedral. Very close to bars and restaurants for the evening. The breakfast was very good and varied. The check-in was easy and staff friendly. We stayed in the duplex apartment which was very big. It was clean and well maintained, yes its up four flights of stairs, but not a problem for anyone who is reasonably fit. The only reason its not 5 stars is due to the rubbish pillows and lack of a kettle or even a glass in the room for a drink of water!
