I spent 14 nights at this hotel. After changing rooms because the shower was impossibly small in room 709 I ended up in room 810 and also saw 811 and they had showers that were more spacious. The rooms are ok for a moderately-priced hotel but the internet goes off several times a day, sometimes for a few hours and the electricity went off several times briefly, including once when I was in the elevator and had to be pulled out by staff. The worst part of the hotel is the restaurant. The breakfast is ok with the usual Western fare plus a breakfast buffet of Ethiopian foods that Westerners would view as a dinner meal. The menu for lunch and dinner is exceptionally poor. During my time there, two of the three fish selections were not available, the veal and pork selections were never available and what I did eat was tasteless or deep fried with vegetables swimming in butter. My solution was to walk to a nearly local restaurant the Pizza di Napoli which had a choice of pizza, stir-fry, grilled chicken etc. A good menu at low cost. The hotel is the closest to the US Embassy so, given the traffic, that is an advantage if one needs proximity to the US Embassy. If price and traffic are not an issue, then stay somewhere else. I was ok with local Ethiopian and Italian food and avoided the restaurant after three tries. Finally, the breakfast is ok but the service was uneven - one morning there was no tea or coffee, another morning by 9am there was not much choice and the fruit and other bowls were not refilled for those having breakfast in the 9-10am period, The woman Concierge sitting at the desk by the piano was very kind and helpful. At check out there was also confusion as they thought I had already checked out and so I never got a receipt and they said all charges were billed directly to my employer.

It can be seen that this is a historic hotel, can see the glory of the year, and now the facilities are relatively old. If the high-rise building is better, the living quarters, the environment and facilities will be much worse. The breakfast was very rich and it was delicious. Dinner buffet, no drinks, price 40 dollars, not much stuff, no breakfast rich. In the hotel lobby, there is a place to drink traditional Ethiopian coffee, there are many shops on the first floor, the hotel has complete fitness facilities, gym, tennis, basketball, and many other venues. A lot of people outside come to work out.

Great service, great staff and a true 5 star experience in an urban hotel in the center of Addis with access to anything you need. Covid precautions still in effect with a masked staff and access to GM is at your fingertips if there is ever an issue. The meeting rooms are also quite nice, well equipped and they get you what you need if they dont have it...I could go on and on but try it for your self.

Looking forward to going again next year Thank you and best wishes to Mr Abraham and all the staff

To start off let’s just say they have such a clever WiFi password that I absolutely love 😊 Ok so when you arrive at Addis Ababa airport you’ll be welcomed by the hotel’s shuttle service if you book ahead … sadly there wont be any one holding a sign with your name you’ll have to go to their office inside the airport and inform them that you have a booking at the hotel and the shuttle will take you there ( this also works even if you don’t have a prearrange booking as I found out later ) The shuttle itself is a comfy minivan great to take you from A to B but won’t call it the luxurious. Once I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by Mr. Amanuel the bell-Boy with the great smile – Honest to god I haven’t seen that guy frown once during my stay always elegant and courteous. I’m the -Help yourself- kind of guy who doesn’t feel comfortable letting others carry my bags even at airports. But Amanule just has that grace that makes you relaxed around him, you’ll gladly hand him your things without a second thought while you head inside to check-in. The shuttle parks in front of the main hotel gate that looks average or even less than average and I was a bit disappointed that my agent booked a hotel like this for me. But that changed once I passed the gate. The front of the hotel is a double purposed area to your right is the Bar-Café-entertainment area with a small porch for bands. And to your left is the swimming pool separated prom the bar by a neatly arranged row of decorative plants that are just tall enough to make the two areas feel very separate, but if its privacy your looking for in this swimming pool sadly you’re better off going to a private swimming pool in a gym ( there are an assortment nearby that ill discuss later here). The reception area is neat, clean and elegant. To your right you’ll find the business center with 2 computers, a printer/scanner and internet connection just in case of those occasions when you go to hotel for a vacation and leave your laptop at home. The front desk is right ahead and when I came in, the first thing I saw was miss Frehiwot welcoming smile, that felt like the smile of a lifelong friend you meet after years apart. She was very professional yet unlike receptionists in other hotels I’ve been to she wasn’t stiff. The check-in procedure felt like a chat rather than the dry, tedious form filling I suffer in every hotel. And even tough my plans for this vacation were not clear she was flexible and very open to changes and gave very clear and thoughtful suggestions that she literally became my go-to when I want to know anything about the area or what to do in a situation, from getting a local SIM card to where I can find a pharmacy I’ll ask her before even checking google – which is not that reliable in Addis and I can not stress enough how you should never depend on it alone- , one day I wasn’t feeling well at 3am and needed some painkillers from a pharmacy , she suggested that I shouldn’t go out alone at

Breakfast is terrible, giving up to one point. You can only eat eggs and porridge every day. Others can't look directly. Watermelon has not been eaten too sweet. Close to the airport, there is a free bus transfer, there are friendsship small shopping malls around, you can also find some Chinese restaurants, but it is very expensive. Hotel service is general, the samples of the exhibitors were not picked up by the customs due to the drag of the hotel staff. . The room light was bad and I was too lazy to change it.

Really impressive hotel for the price. The staff were very friendly, assistive and professional. The room was huge and very clean. Ceiling to floor windows really made it special. Good solid WiFi. The shower had great hot water pressure, which was the best during my stay in Ethiopia. The street it's on had a lot of restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance. It's in Bole area, which is the nice end of town, more modern and glitzy. Only issue was the night clubs around that blare loud music on some nights, but I didn't stay in a hotel in Ethiopia that was really quiet. Definitely would be a repeat customer if I go back.

The environment is Okay, people are very friendly, but the overall service level and food are only two-star level. Most of the easy chairs in the room were broken, some of the facilities in the room were not maintained, and the swimming pool was full of sand. The meals in the main restaurant are average, and the Chinese restaurant is even more terrible, ordering three dishes and saying no. The only thing that barely meets the standard (4 stars) is the decoration of the lobby ... and the sunrise view of the high-rise east room is also heartily praised (the sunrise time is about 6 am)

I gave this place 1 star because I needed to do that in order to leave a review and partially for the courtesy the cleaning and host staff showed me. The good: Cleaning and F&B staff were great! Very friendly and attentive. The bad: 1. I was put in a room which was not cleaned prior to my arrival (look at pictures attached) 2. The room had a leaking roof and the it wet my luggage and it's content. (pic attached) 3. I was here as part of the government "quarantine" rules, but the management staff told their cleaning staff to come into my room while I was there (essentially putting them in danger) even though I insisted that they shouldn't come in and that they just change rooms for me 4. The sheets and towels were dirty and stained (pictures attached) 5. The shower head was broken (pict attached) 6. The side lamp was broken (pic attached) and light switch for the main light was not working 7. The food was horrible 8. I stayed in the hotel for 9 days and was charged for 14 and management refused to reimburse me for the nights I DID NOT stay. Giving me some bogus reason while other people in other hotels were able to get their reimbursements The Ugly: When I spoke to management (supervisor or manager of hotel) about reimbursement, she told me the check was written but they are waiting for the owner to sign off on it, and they are on the phone now and that I should wait. After a few minutes of waiting when I didn't hear back from anyone, I decided to call the owner myself. The owner then proceeded to tell me that she understands that it might be my "personality" to persistently ask for reimbursements of money, and that she doesn't understand why I am so adamant [about getting my money] because the money (~300usd) was not a "life changing amount". She then said, if the money is this significant to me it will returned to me but that it is not ready now. This is in contradiction to what the manager told me. The manager said the check was ready and they just need the green light from the owner. Additionally, when I told the owner that her accountant hang up on me while I was talking to him, She basically just called me a lair. She said she is pretty sure he wouldn't do that. It has been a little over 3 months now and still no refund. Turns out, not only is the money a "significant amount" to me, it is a big deal for the hotel as well or even more so to them than I. This is not an ideal place to be during regular times let alone COVID times. Although it is listed as a quarantine hotel, I have seen non-guest come in and out and interact with guests (who have been ordered by government to not interact with the larger population) in very close proximity. I have put in a complaint with EPHI (Ethiopian Public Health Institute) and will continue to follow it. At this point, it is not only about the money, it is also about the principle of it all. If they were not able to refund, they should have said

Spent one night here because someone recommended the place. Road was damaged and full of dust. Only plus points are that the place is closed to the airport, okay breakfast and very supportive restaurant staff. Room is smelly and difficult to breath. Bathroom is quite big. They had to change my room because my room door cannot lock from the inside. Next room is a disaster. TV is available with 4 local channels. But no remote. Bed linens are not clean and had some wet stains. God knows what. Night receptionist can barely manage English language. So it’s waste of time for asking another room change. Ended up sleeping with full clothes on. Average internet connection. Bed pillows are so dirty seems never washed after couple of people used them. Totally waste of money and really bad experience.

The overall environment is pretty good and has the same domestic 4 stars. If you do n’t know how to eat, it ’s not satisfactory (it may be a common problem in general hotels in Addis). The standard of the restaurant is about 2-3 stars in China. Generally speaking, it ’s Okay. The location is on the edge of a hotel street. It is better not to go alone on the side road on the bad side of the hotel. I heard that it is not safe. It is best to go in and out on the other side (opposite the cafe).

The biggest concern the week I was there was that the machine for personalizing room keys broke and had to be sent to another country for repair. For a while, we were given "masters" that unlocked multiple rooms. Eventually, even those sometimes failed, and we had to get one of a limited number of staff members to let us into our rooms. Other problems included: 1) shower door off the track, 2) door bolt not working and supposedly unfixable, and 3) safe not working correctly. There are no room controls for heat or air. They lent me a space heater, but it was missing one wheel and, more concerning, had a very frayed cord -- so I did not leave it running if I was not right next to it. Also, they billed my credit card the second day of my five-day stay without showing me the bill -- and I was overcharged. On the plus side, the staff were very nice, even if they didn't solve the problems. The staff at the top-floor restaurant were particularly lovely.

The hotel is located in the central, safe area. Security guards are always outside, and your bag always needs to pass their security check, which is assuring. Unfortunately, I saw roaches in the room I was initially allocated. I first saw it (they were relatively small; perhaps a local version of it) on my second day, and I had to borrow an insect killer. I further saw two more (which I killed) on my fourth day. When I complained this to the receptionist, she was frowned to hear about my insect problems, but did not look surprised. The cleaning manager told me that he will vacuum and then perfume the whole room. I am sure he did it, but unfortunately, another one (this was looked more like a bed bug) appeared, so I asked for a room change. The reception agreed, and I got another room. I stayed in this room over the next 10 days without problems (occasionally flies entered, but that was it). In hindsight, my initial room was directly two floors above their restaurant/kitchen, so perhaps these insects came to my initial room through drains.  Other than that, it was an ok stay though wifi could be very patchy sometimes. Also, cleaning ladies often failed to change my used cups, and placed them again in my room as if they were new. Breakfast was always good, while some dinner menus were better than others (but you can also try Radisson Blu's restaurant too; it's literally next door; their food is more expensive but very good; and their wifi was far better) Overall, if you have sufficient money to stay at Hilton or Radisson Blu, no need to stay here. Otherwise, I would still consider this place as an option.

My son recently stayed at the Wudasie Castel Hotel in Edinburgh for 9 days from Dec 14th 2019. He was on his own and got into a little difficulty with some local tourist guides. My son is also Deaf and uses sign language, so communciation was difficult and he was taken advantage of. The manager of this hotel was incredible and I cannot thank him enough. Not only did he provide support to my son, by letting him borrow a hotel mobile (my son's mobile phone was stolen on his second day which caused him considerable distress), but he intervened with the two guides and provided reassurance to my son and a safe, place to stay. I do not know what he would have done without this kind and thoughful man's assistance (he even ensured that my son was driven to the airport safely on his final day) and I hope to visit Addis Ababa one day and thank him in person. The rest of the review is being dictated by my son. He says that it was very clean, friendly, accessible to the airport, very good value for money, helpful. The food was also very good adn the views form the roog were ' great'. He adds that a woman was showign off Ethiopian coffee in teh hotel adn he tried some. It was delicious.

My colleague and I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. We arrived around 10:30 pm. The WiFi in our room was not working but when we reported it was quickly (within 5 minutes) sorted out. I was impressed by the availability of the IT technician at such a late hour. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, the safe in our room didn't work. The food was good with very generous portions. I recommend the chicken stir-fry. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of food and the mini croissants were delicious. However, I would recommend having a hot water dispenser available in the dining area rather than having water for tea brought to individual tables from the kitchen as this sometimes takes 10-15 mins. The staff were friendly. However, on arrival, it would have been nice to have someone escort us to our room as it took us some time to locate our room. Michot the taxi driver went above and beyond the usual customer service. He was polite and friendly. He even went so far as to lend us his extra mobile phone so that we can call him after we were done at the function we were attending on one of the evenings. All in all, it is a very good hotel. We'll stay there again in future.

I was very pleased with everything that I saw. The hotel is not five star, but everything that they do, they do it well. The bed was very comfortable, surprisingly more comfortable than my own mattress back in the US that I spent a lot of money on. The rooms are simple, but very clean and well air-conditioned. The shower has powerful water flow. They may not have high definition DSTV or a large bathtub that their neighbor hotel (which by the way I left after three days due to poor service and just walked to Mado), but what they have, they do well. I would recommend Mado for value and clearly Ethiopian-like customer care. From the security person at the door to the reception desk and management, they know how to run a hotel cordially. Bravo! When I come back to Addis in 8 months, I know where I’m staying.
