The room I stayed in was Tsuboyu Superior on the 1st floor, which was the lowest rank, but I was able to spend comfortably without feeling cramped. However, because it is on the first floor, the outside of the room is outdoors and the outside air comes directly, so I think it is quite cold in winter. However, the air conditioner is very powerful and heats the room quickly. One disappointing thing is that there was no humidifier even though there was a dehumidifier. The most decisive factor in choosing this hotel was the cypress leaf bath. For long-term stays, there is a washing machine and a microwave oven, and the spacious shower booth has an overhead shower, so you will really want to stay for several nights. Furthermore, from 17:00 to 22:00, all-you-can-drink sake and wine in the lounge. There were about 8 kinds in all, and you can drink as much as you like, such as Kinshi Masamune's junmai ginjo and junmai sake, and there are knobs such as okaki. No closet for your clothes, though. there is one drawer next to the bed, for some small stuff. Two electricity sockets and 2 usb inlets per bed. The beds were very comfy! Shower and bath were perfect. Reception was very accommodating. The room has a water heater and fridge. Couple of things notable: Station Tokyo is a 10 minutes walk, if you walk briskly. I thought the station was closer by, so that was a misconception on my part. Breakfast is very Japanese: many choices, but definitely not for vegetarians. I was glad our neighbors spent their evenings talking and not much else, because we could hear them talk, the walls were that thin. No safe in the room. All in all, I would personally choose an hotel nearer to the station, but if you don't mind the walk, the price and quality of the hotel couldn't be better, that's why 4 stars.

We had an earlier check-in, which mean that we could enjoy our relaxing private Onsen bath without standing in line. We also tried the large onsen baths later in the evening after a long walk in the beautiful Arashiyama area nearby. It was hot, but great. One of the baths was outside in a Japanese garden. We got warmed up from the inside out, and had an ice popsicle before we went up to our room for good nights rest. We also enjoyed a huge dinner and breakfast, true local cuisine with typical taste in Kyoto that supposed to be refined and ”delicate” - you shouldn´t expect any strong taste, and correctly cooked. This supposed to be a 3-star-hotel, but the amenity was completed. We didn´t miss anything here. We thought the staff at the front desk were not amazing, but definitely not poor. We didn´t need to deal with them so much as we had good information in written form. Everything was clean and pleasant. Had absolutely nothing to complain. We would definitely love to come back again. My rating is 4 - not more or less. I certainly see that they still have a room for improvement, but overall I didn´t personally understand all the poor reviews.

      It’s a pretty new hotel and close to Kyoto station which is convenience for tourists. But the hotel staff mainly speak Japanese, can’t really communicate. The coin laundry is always full …. But at least we can check the machines vacancy on the TV from our room. Also, there is a 7 11 stick with the hotel so we can get food or drink easily without going outside. Not far to access shopping mall or restaurants. Rooms size are ok for 1 or 2 big luggage.

But very delicate Park Hyatt's restaurant, Kyomato Kyoto, doesn't recommend it. The courtyard can be seen from the 5th floor lounge and corridor of the hotel.
