We visited Yamadaya Hotel between the 22nd and 25th of April 2019. I had stupidly forgotten to make note of the fact that their check in strictly speaking closes before 8pm, but we were not due to arrive there until 8:30. After calling them, they assured us that was fine, and without us asking, held dinner for us, even though this meant us being served 2 hours after their normal dinner schedule. This quiet, unspoken, but excellent service was the norm during our stay: they would quietly notice things, such as the fact that my yukata (a type of Japanese dressing gown) was a bit too long, and next day they'd replaced it without comment with a better fitting one. The food here blew me away. I knew it was going to be traditional, but I was unprepared for what this meant: the sheer variety of dishes placed before us was staggering, both for breakfast and dinner. The flavours were numerous, delicious and sometimes curious. Note that if you don't like seafood and pickles, you will struggle here! But we loved it. The room is big and elegant, with an ensuite bathroom. Big windows with a view over the lake and Mt Fuji itself. The hotel itself has seen some wear and tear in places, but not in any essential ways, and this did not detract in any way from our experience: it appears to be run by a family, so they no doubt have their hands full keeping the place running. The location (besides the food and onsen experience) is the main draw here of course. Kawaguchiko itself can be quite touristy, but this place was remote enough to be superbly quiet and peaceful. Great hiking trails start right outside, which take you to various peaks where you can view Fuji and absorb the smells of the trees in the forest. It does get cloudy here too though, so do try to time your trip with the weather or you may not catch even a glimpse of Fuji. Overall we were extremely happy with our stay and can highly recommend Yamadaya. Particularly romantic place for couples, at least for us! The only thing to be wary of here is that the local buses seem to be 15 minutes delayed as a matter of rule. This very nearly made us miss our coach back to Tokyo, so keep this in mind.

We stayed one night in November 2018, just before heading home. Room: we had a large tatami room, enough to fit 4 adults and 1 child. The tatami beds were made while we had dinner. General atmosphere: the hotel is very clean, my child enjoyed her time at the kids area, which is very close to the dining hall. we let her go and play after eating so the adults can enjoy more chatting time. Onsen: Their onsen is at a newly renovated section of the hotel. Inside is spotless and spacious. The open onsen space is covered up by foster glasses to ensure privacy which is different to the clear glass photo shown on the management photos. Staff: staffs were friendly and went above and beyond their normal duties to help with our emergency car situation. Also having WIFI throughout the hotel is a big thumb up from us.

We (husband, me and two teenage sons) stayed two nights. I will start with the positives. The resort is in a great location for touring around the Mount Fuji area, in woods which makes it pleasantly secluded and peaceful. The staff were very polite as you would expect, extremely helpful too. Once we were given a mobile WiFi kit the WiFi in our suite was faster than we had at home. Our suite was large, had two bedrooms with their own bathrooms. There was an indoor balcony area to sit in and look across the woods (ignoring some rather ugly buildings to do so). The breakfast buffet was extensive and the restaurant you ate it in had a fantastic view of Mount Fuji. It was a short drive to some very good restaurants off site. The swimming pool area looked lovely, but it was not open yet. There was a good games room with table tennis tables in the basement. The negatives. As other reviewers have written, the hotel has seen better days. There may be newer parts to the resort but the building we stayed in, just across from the main hotel with the reception, was desperately in need of some care and attention. It was not dirty, but stained and worn. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. The towels were paper thin. The whole resort site feels neglected with rather tired buildings in rather haphazard locations. There were a lot of coach tour customers who will have had no choice but to dine in the hotel restaurant and the buffet on offer looked pretty dire (a mix of Japanese and Mediterranean fare, baked pasta for example), after looking round it we left and as we had a car we went off site both nights. It was the rather shocking price of ¥5000 per person. I pondered 3 stars because of the staff and location. I ended up at 2 because an uncomfortable bed in a hotel is just not good enough. If I could have said 2.5 I would have. I have included some photos which highlight the issues I have identified. The lampshade on a lamp in our rooms seemed to me to sum up the problems quite well: stained and rather bartered but functional.

Stayed 3 nights here as we wanted a hotel with Mt Fuji views and onsen. From our mountain view room, Mt Fuji was spectacular on a clear autumn day, as are the gardens. A slight problem is that the room is rather hot and bec you can't control the central AC, we requested a fan which made sleeping more bearable. Our Japanese-styled room is also fascinating but on hindsight - as the futons, table and seats are on the floor - it was tough on us who hv weak knees and wrists to get up and down. Room has free Wifi, minimal beverages, TV (only Jap channels), safe, and digital "room butler" that offers hotel and Kawaguchiko info. There are no toiletries but there is a full range in the onsen (with yutakas provided in the room) which is very well set up with lockers, shower and dressing areas, and two heated pools. The hotel is a tad away from it all but it has hourly buses that goes to and fro Kawaguchi Train Station (till 6pm-ish), where there are buses to practically every attraction in and around the area. You just need to get bus timetables to plan your day well as taxis are not exactly in abundance. Food-wise, our kaiseki and French multi-course dinners were generally good but a la carte would probably be a better way to avoid food wastage. Breakfast, though not extensive, is decent fare, with the dining room offering a great Mt Fuji view.

I do not normally post reviews, I always think to when I return from my trips, but never do. In this instance I have to! We arrived at night to this charming little establishment with lite up tree and were immediately introduced to smiles and “would you like dinner”, even though we missed the designated time for dinner by an hour. We regretfully declined, having had dinner in town, not realizing dinner came with the room (breakfast as well)! BTW, skip dinner in town if that works for you and have dinner at the Cosmos! Delicious home made food at no cost to you. Breakfast and dinner come with the room. Also, keep in mind, this hotel/bed & breakfast is 20 min out of the main town. The next couple of days we experienced hospitality to the nth degree! Delicious breakfast in the morning, delicious dinner at night. Smiles, friendliness, helpfulness during out entire stay. Our second day we decided to climb Mt. Mitsu-toge, But did not realize it would be a 7 hour round trip. We missed dinner by 2 hours, but our hosts still were determined to serve us dinner and we happily accepted. On our last morning we planned to take the local bus into town to the train station, but found out there were no buses running that morning. Our hosts happily drove us there although it was a 40 min drive round trip. I can not say enough about our hosts. I wish I knew more Japanese to thank them further. Domo Origato!

Great hotel! The rooms are large, tidy and clean, all kinds of new, the view of Mount Fuji outside the window is unbeatable! The buffet breakfast was of a high standard. It was the most satisfying breakfast on this trip to Japan. The meal was full and the taste was amazing. The restaurant is also invincible with the view of Mount Fuji. The dining mood is great. There is a place to bathe in the hotel on the first floor, the environment is good, men and women are separated, like a traditional Japanese bathroom. Although no Chinese service was encountered, every waiter was very enthusiastic, without communication barriers, and smiling without borders! Well, there are disadvantages. For example, it takes more than ten minutes to walk from Hekou Lake Station. There are no buses and the route is very remote. It is on the highway. If you bring luggage, it is recommended to book a hotel shuttle. There are no convenience stores nearby and no place to eat. The closest seven-day convenience store is at least five or six hundred meters away, and the night is quite desolate ...

The scenery and service are the best hotels with Chinese services. Family breakfast is scheduled for 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners. Japanese beef is delicious and recommended. Meals are arranged in our small room. It is very quiet and we can see Mount Fuji from the window. The meal is very comfortable. An extra bed will be added to the room at dinner time. After the bus arrives at the station, you can buy a red bus for a total of 20 stops. The 13th stop is the hotel's main entrance, which is about 20 minutes by car, which is very convenient.

Fufu Kawaguchiko is definitely one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The design from the front entrance through the cozy lobby up to the rooms is one of a kind. Every little detail seems to have been considered. The rooms, all with direct view to the Fuji, feel like your privately decorated weekend hideaway. A private Onzen, a wonderful terrace, carefully selected furniture, large beds, a BeoLink loudspeaker, free drinks and even a set of cables for all of your portable devices. There’s also a very nice Onzen for all the hotel guests with a sauna and large windows in front of the black hot tub facing a small stone garden and the forest behind the hotel. Very relaxing and we‘ve not seen more than another guest in that Onzen whenever we’ve been there. As we’ve been so lucky to have clear skies on both of our days at the hotel, Mt. Fuji filled the center of our terrace view. What a breathtaking way to wake up looking at that majestic mountain from your bed! The terrace and the garden in front of the main building offer very nice cabanas and fireplaces. The restaurant is designed as beautiful as the rest of the Hotel. The staff is very helpful and polite and the food of Master Chef Masayoshi HOSHINO outshines everything else at the restaurant. We had the great pleasure of two breakfasts and two dinners. Breakfast was great, but both dinners rank about the best food experiences we ever had in Japan. Beyond all the great staff members we would like to particularly mention Assistant General Manager Mr. Yukitoshi TAMURA who has been exceptionally helpful and flexible throughout our stay. His English is perfect and he had no problem to fulfill some of our not-so-common requests, like having drinks after dinner in the garden near the open fire. Permit us to add some small recommendations to your wonderful hotel: • It would be great if there would be at least one staff member with sufficient English language skills around the reception/concierge desk, at least from 8am to 8pm. • As the area around Lake Kawaguchi is perfect for a bicycle tour, more than just five rental e-bikes at the hotel would make sense. • We’d have loved the option to get an espresso and or cappuccino at any time of the day or at least from breakfast until after dinner. Once again we’d like to thank the entire staff of Fufu Kawaguchiko for one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Please keep that high level! We will come back as soon as possible!

This is my second visit to this hotel. Since my first visit was really good, so I booked for my second time. However, this time is just an nightmare, we have the room at the corner for 3 of us. I stayed in the small room with single bed which is full of bugs. In the beginning i thought it was just a few so I tried to kill and clean up myself. I checked all the windows are closed and I even called the front desk to come up and take a look. She told me there is a spray for the insect so I did it before I went out for dinner. By the time I was back to the bed, it is even worse. There were at least 10 - 20 bugs flying around the room. Since it is too late at night, so I have to move my bed to the floor in the living room to sleep for the night. I filed my complaint to the Manager in charge during my check out, he told me there is nothing much he can do about it. During the check out, I overheard there were another group who stayed one floor below my room had the same experience. I will never visit this hotel anymore and has mere a really bad experience.

The hotel locates is at the largest lake side around the Mt. Fuji. It is close to cable car station and other main tourist sites. Besides the rooms facing the lake provide excellence view of Mt. Fuji with its shadow on the lake. It takes only 2 mins. to walk from the lobby to the lake side for the Mt. Fuji during the sunrise or sunset. The staff team are very friendly and helpful, especially they come out to the car park to clean the iced window of the car to ensure that all the guests leave the hotel for safe journey!

Service was great, staff were very polite and attentive, dinner was included and it was delivered to our room, very delicious. Location wise was also good, only about 5- 7 mins walk from the station to the hotel. The only thing is that, I booked a room with mountain view with private hot spring, it was so expensive but I was hoping to have a good view of the mountain during my stay, as I was told that my room was already the room with the best view of Fuji mountain, however, the balcony is still somewhat blocked by an extended wall on the right and also with a big platform outside, yes, we still can see the fuiji mountain when we sit in the private onsen but honestly that's not the view I was expecting with the money I paid for, will book a different hotel next time.
