“SOY” is a 100-year-old Japanese style house, located in Hida- Takayama of Gifu prefecture, renovated into a warm and comfortable guest house & café .All kinds of popular Japanese food such as soy sauce, miso, natto, tofu are made of “soy beans.” We are ready to and capable of making changes, just like these soy beans, to make the place even cozier for all comers. We wish our guest house to be a place where people can exchange their thoughts to make tomorrow a better day. From TAKAYAMA station By Bus to "kumiai hospital".It will take 15minutes by bus.please get off the bus named "Kamikiricho".

There are many Ryokans to choose from in Takayama and after much debating, my husband and I visited this Ryokan in Dec. We had high expectations as this was one of the more expensive options and I can tell you our expectations were totally surpassed. We stayed for two nights and found we wished we could have stayed longer as this was the most memorable and relaxing experience of our whole Japan trip. The accommodation is very traditional with tatami mats to sleep on and Japanese style showers. We had a private onsen and this was well worth it to have our own hot spring to use any time. The mattresses were very comfortable and we were very cosy even though the weather was very cold in Dec. The food was truly delicious and we certainly recommend having the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. But the stand out for us was the service. It was excellent from the moment the shuttle bus driver greeted us all the way to when they farewelled is. Our attendant Riho was courteous and accommodated us so well. We were grateful to have her speak English as this was quite a traditional Japanese inn. The door man Kazuyuki was perceptive and offered us umbrellas in the morning telling us it would rain later, when it looked fine, and he was totally right. Takao Munenobu on the front desk had excellent English skills and gave us some good tips on what to do around the area. We are grateful for the team at this Royokan and would certainly recommend staying here.

We stayed here as part of a group and we were really happy with the whole experience. Shoes off at the door, then up to our room which was very clean, matress on mats on the floor as expected, but very comfortable with both air conditioning for those who were too warm, and extra blankets for those who were too cold. There was a TV as well but we didn't use it. The owners provide a fantastic service picking people up from the train station, they also took us up to visit Hida Folk Village which is near by. Dinner and breakfast were also provided, and was similar to the photos other reviewers have submitted. They are more traditional meals, lots of bits of food, prepared very well. I found the meals more than plentyful and struggled to eat all the breakfast provided. One of the key elements was the use of the Onsen. For those who haven't used one you are expected to shower and clean yourself before getting into a nicely warm large bath/spa, which was really really welcome at the end of a long day of walking. Usually people go in in groups, being conservative westerners we gave ourselves time slots so when we used the onsen (must be naked) we were alone. Overall a great experience I would recommend to others.

We recently spent three nights here. We were apprehensive about the reviews. Yes it is about 5 minutes by vehicle from town but the establishment runs a shuttle service. Our room was huge with a small sitting room. The woman who runs the place is phenomenal. Nothing is too much trouble and great care is taken with the food offerings. Our evening meal was served in the room and for the first time ever in Japan I felt a bit over fed ,. So have a light lunch. The courtesies extended by all the staff was beyond reproach. The futon arrangements set up for us before bedtime were amazingly comfortable. The place is a little tired in parts but as an authentic experience we would highly recommend it. My only mild criticism is that wifi is only available in the foyer

I had a standard double room for three nights. The room was small but generally well-designed, with, for instance, clothes hanging space on one side of the entryway and a large drawer on wheels under the bed (which I thought was pretty cool). A chair by the window and a padded stool at the desk. When the stool was pulled out it did abut the bed which wasn't ideal. There was a small table (not bedside), but nearly everything had to be on the desk - tv, jug, clock, tissues, food etc - it was a bit tight. The tv was large however, and the wi-fi was good. Despite the small space the fridge wasn't too loud and there was little noise from outside. The bed was comfy with good pillows. PJs which could be worn around the hotel (quite a few people wore them for breakfast) and slippers were provided. The room's decor was quite nice but there was no artwork. The individual air conditioning was excellent, worked well, easy to operate. The bathroom was a reasonable size. As I was on the ground floor in a middle room there was no view to speak of - partition then the outside of someone else's room, however I expect upstairs rooms would have views of the surrounding townscape and countryside. The included breakfast was enjoyable and all the staff were welcoming and helpful. The foyer area was large and attractive, with a small range of souvenirs for sale. The laundromat was great - inexpensive and with accurate timings (ie 30 minutes=30 minutes not some strange approximation of it). Because I had a foot ulcer I didn't use the onsen but saw people exiting looking relaxed. Via the tv it was possible to check whether or not the onsens were busy. I was not using a car while in Japan and the hotel is a fair way from Takayama downtown, station and main sights, but the shuttle bus is reliable and the drivers kind and friendly. On one occasion I was the only person on the shuttle and had a nice conversation in English with one of them. They do drop off guests at Old Town/morning market on the way to the station if required. These stop/s still leave plenty of time to catch the Wide View Hida (the shuttles' timetables align with Hida arrivals and departures). Overall a pleasant stay.

Location was great, just 7mins walk from the train or Nohbi bus station. Next door - Mcdonalds, supermarket only 2 blocks away. 15mins walk to the Takayama walking street. The rooms are clean and tidy. Happy hours from 6-8pm at the pantry with 01free drinks and nuts is another plus. Only setback is the public bath, a little too small, only 5 bathing tap.

We stayed in Best Western for 1 night. It is decent and cosy. We came to the hotel late at night and headed to Toyama in the next afternoon. The hotel is a very good choice to us in terms of the breakfast (food in good quality and variety) and location (it is just 5 min from the train station and within 15 min walking distance to the morning market and the most popular tourist shopping area, and another 10 - 15 min to a number of tourist spots). The things that improvement is required are: 1) the design of the bath room which has 2 glass walls. As the curtain cannot be fully closed, a person can see inside from the corner of the glass walls; and 2) the mattress is a bit soft without sufficient support to my back.

It was a great hotel. ① The bed, pillows and futons were comfortable and I could sleep soundly like a lie. ② The facility is really new and clean. The design based on wood is also wonderful. ③ For breakfast, corona measures have been devised, side dishes are set for each person in the lunch box, and rice, miso soup, bread, natto, salad, etc. are taken with vinyl gloves by a buffet method. The taste and volume were great. ④ There was an all-you-can-drink lounge for 1320 yen on the same 7th floor as the large communal bath. I didn't use it because I was alone with two children, but it was a nice lounge with an atmosphere that adults would want to use. ⑤ I felt that walking to the old town was just right for me, but I was tired of walking and returned by taxi. The distance is the distance that you can return with the basic taxi fare. ⑥ Samue for adults and children can be rented. Unlike yukata, it is comfortable and comfortable to spend. I definitely want to use it when I come to Takayama.

Good- Walking distance from the JR train station to the hotel, friendly staff, ramen will be provided between 10:30pm-11:30pm, both private and public onsens are available [suggestion to use private onsen during morning time due to less occupancy], breakfast is tasty and has many choices, room is spacious and clean. Bad- Strong shoes smell at shoe storage area, AIR CONDITION in the Room COULD NOT be switched to cooling mode when we stayed during winter time [we opened the window to draw in some cooling air into our warm room], AIR CONDITION temperature and other settings can only be configured by the officer at lobby [inconvenient], room looks slightly old [may require to upgrade it since the room rate is quite pricey], bathroom ventilation strength is very weak, the check-in process was long due to poor english language spoken by the officer. Note: There's one officer who could speak better english language at the front desk. Travelers are strongly advised to look for the RIGHT officer if you do not want to spare so much time on the check-in process.

We traveled with Gate 1 group so we didn't pick the resort, the location is outside of the city but it didn't create any inconvienance for us since we had our tour bus. The resort was a little complicated to get around, if you like to experience the onsen bath (who would miss it anyway?) a long walk from your room and you have to change the elavator. The day we arrived, they did the check-in on the bus, which is quite efficient, but did have to waite for a while (15-20 minutes) for the elevator since one is not working. The room was comfortable, clean, and nice size with a good view of the town. The yukata was provided for the onsen bath. Diner wasn't provided by Gate 1, but we have some local delicacies brought back from town, it took care of it. You can make tea or coffee in the room. Breakfast was edequate and delicious, mostly Japanese style. The courtyard and the decoration are quite zen and pretty. The staff was very friendly. Overall it was a very refreshing stay.

The location of the hotel is very good, right in the middle of the old town and the station. Room facilities are very new, you can take soup service, the staff is very comfortable, children will also be given a gift package, which includes children's toothbrushes and slippers. The heating in the room is sufficient. The room may be small. The outside temperature is minus five degrees.     The room is really small, only one person can turn around, and two people cannot turn around side by side. A 1.4-meter large bed with a 1-meter elevated bed on it, the children were crazy, and three people could sleep enough. Another point, the hotels in the whole mountain area seem to use a white cloth as a quilt under the quilt. They ca n’t roll over a lot when they sleep, and the children are missing a few kicks of white cloth at night.     In general, this hotel can be used for less than 2 people, the price is reasonable, the location is good, and the space for 3 people is too small.
