I stayed here for business as our HQ is in Essen, unfortunately our usual hotel (the welcome) was sold out so looked online and found this Holiday in for around the same price £120 a night. We booked in advance on the company credit card as we normally do as we're not supposed to expense hotels. When we checked in the receptionist requested to see the card which the booking was completed on. I have stayed at Holiday Inn before and they never normally ask this, apparently it is a new policy. They cheekily said well if you can't show us the card I'm sure you can put it on your own personal cards and expense it. We were told that the company have to fill out a form, put the company stamp on it and fax it through to authorise spending on the company card in future. Now I was with our managing director yet they still refused to accept the card which we pre-paid on. It didn't say anywhere online when booking or in the subsequent emails this was the case and we showed the receptionist this. Anyway we had no choice but to pay on our own cards in the hope the company would reimburse us. I find this totally unacceptable. We got to the rooms and they were very run down and in need of some TLC. The divan bed and curtains looked like they were from the 70's or 80's and were all faded and had seen better days. We went down to the restaurant only to be told it's under refurbishment and they have setup some meeting rooms as the restaurant! It was bizarre they were playing football on the projector while people were eating their dinner! At least the food was good. The rooms were like a sauna with no air-con, I had both windows wide open however it was still boiling, mainly due to the radiator in the bathroom having its thermostat broken and being constantly on max! Due to this and the very noisy road (as the window had to be wide open) I had such a bad sleep. To add insult to injury, there wasn't even any free water provided in the room and an extortionate fee for 3.5 euros was charged per litre. The breakfast was the same as dinner, served in a meeting room. Very odd. I would not recommend this hotel at all, stay anywhere other than this please!

Nice hotel. Rooms were recently renovated. Close to the city and shops. From the hotel it is a 5 min. walk into town and the Limbecker Platz shopping mall. Breakfast was included in the roomrate. There was a lot: fresh rolls, vegetables, coffee, 2 juices, joghurt & eggs. The room was clean. The bathroom a bit small and I missed hooks to hang clothes/towels on. There are free parking spaces. I believe this is a good and affordable choice when you are staying in Essen for one or two nights. Although close to the city, it was quiet and not noisy. I would book again.

Cost was excessive for what the hotel offered. Room was very small with single bed, unlike most hotels which provide guests travelling alone with a double or twin bed room. Based on the fire plan map, all rooms on that floor are small. Door lock, was faulty when closing from the inside, and required some fiddling every time. Room smelled of cigarette smoke. Mattress had a dip in the middle and was uncomfortable. Only one cushion was available. Two shelves were available to put clothes on, but one was occupied by the safe. The other shelf was very dusty, so I first cleaned it myself then put my clothes there. Silverfish insects were present on the wall, which is something quite uncommon in hotels. The bathroom was renewed recently, but signs of mold were present on the wall. The air vent was not sucking any air, as proved with the tissue test. Basically it was so dirty and clogged with dust that no air could pass. I removed some of the dust using the room keys and finally the air vent started sucking air. Internet connection was fast. No lift available in the hotel. Breakfast area had a selection of nice food, but I found a worm wriggling in the cereal dispenser. I called the waitress and pointed at the worm and she immediately took the cereal away replacing it with hopefully a new batch. During the day I purchased my own cereal in the local store. Two days later I checked the cereal dispenser out of curiosity and noticed a moth trying to escape from the cereal, so I freed it and it flew away. The hotel should probably take care to buy cereal in smaller batches and store it in a dry place. Half of the hotel signs outside the hotel were not working, suggesting improvements are needed! Room booking was sub-optimal: I specifically required a quiet room away from the main passage way, but I was offered a room opposite the door used to access the stair case. Fortunately another room was also available. My colleague was allocated in another building, so to have breakfast it was necessary to walk on the street between buildings.

Nothing to complain about in this hotel, really. It is offering functional rooms that feels just like a normal apartment. Friendly staff. Don’t think it has staff 24x7 but didn’t get such info through my booking site. In any case, I just made a booking on the hotel again for a future trip to Essen.

We (couple) stayed for one night with our little daughter of 2 years. We had booked a family room which turned out to be a nice spacious room which looked freshly refurbished. We loved the quality of the beds, too. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, so cannot say anything about that. Staff were exceptionally nice and competent. We'll definitely come back.

We stayed there for a couple of nights. Breakfast spread quite generous, the rooms are good and the power of the shower is great! Little quirky place with excellent service, the staff couldn't be more helpful and kind. If convenient for your visit, I will truly recommend it. A €11 ride to Messen.

The hotel is very close to the main railway station and the pedestrian area of the city with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. We had booked a room overlooking the courtyard, it was very quiet. Plenty of wardrobe space, the bed was comfy, modern bathroom with good shower (and a quiet fan!). The room and the hotel were spotlessly clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was as to be expected in Germany, i.e. good variety of sliced meats and cheeses, bread, cereals, jams etc. If however you're just after a coffee and croissant there are plenty of bakeries within walking distance. I would definitively stay again on a future visit.

Almost everything is very good; privat parking, nice welcome: people are very friendly, nearby centre of Essen, rooms are very nice, shower so good! Dinner was really nice, only the music in the restaurant was too loud and so bad, not something to play in the restaurant (screamy hip hop), that was a bit of a shadow over our dinner in the restaurant! So when it’s the same music in restaurant, we will not have breakfast in Hotel. But still a very good feeling about this hotel and the place where it is. I will recommend it to others. Thanks!

Well situated for the centre of town and the train station, but not *too* near the station so not noisy. The expected Ibis standards of comfort, service and cleanliness -- thank you. Bathroom cramped but well equipped -- though usual problem of nowhere to put anything in the shower! Friendly and helpful staff -- all queries dealt with quickly and efficiently, and with a smile. Price of accommodation very reasonable, breakfast (adequate but not special) quite expensive! The air conditioning in our room did not work, but the windows opened (hurrah!) so we had adequate ventilation -- the weather was very warm for September. On-site secure parking was very handy, and reasonable at 10 euros per day. A great base for our activities in the area (exploring and visiting by train and car). Would certainly recommend it and would come here again.

The Mercure hotel in Essen is located in a commercial district about 15 minutes’ walk from the main railway station. It is very close to the Museum Folkwang but otherwise away from the central shopping area with few amenities immediately close by. It’s a modern building with pleasant lobby. My room was comfortable and pleasantly decorated in relaxing tones. The bed was a good size and there was a desk, mini bar and plenty of storage. My room looked out over gardens and an apartment block to the rear – I imagine that rooms to the front could be a little noisy as the hotel is next to a busy road and intersection. The bathroom was fine with usual amenities. The wifi signal was good, even with the ‘free’ option that was adequate for streaming video. There is a safe in the wardrobe, but it is tiny and can’t take a normal laptop. The breakfast room was large and rarely busy, so gave a nice calm start to the day. The range of food was good and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The only item that I would have liked were croissants but they weren’t available throughout my stay. The hotel has no restaurant in the evening, which is a shame as there are few eating places nearby. The bar is attractive and welcoming though and serves a couple of snack items like pizzas and salad – a better selection would be good in the absence of a restaurant. The hotel was relatively quiet during my stay and, overall, served me well.

Dussel and Essen, Germany, a high level of security, the photo is the central fire in Essen The station is well-developed, and you can drive to Duse for half an hour, the fare is 12.8 Europe, communication is mainly English and German, there are churches here, Essen learn. The average price of surrounding accommodations is 1100 RMB, and some hotels do not provide drag Shoes and toiletries are basically not provided in Europe. Huawei headquarters Just in Duse, Duse is also a city with more Chinese, Chinese students More often, I asked twice the way, both are indifferent, if English Okay, I still ask the Germans to answer them with enthusiasm.

I recently stayed here while I attended a conference at the Conference Facility next door. What impressed me most was how conveniently located it was not only to the conference, but also to Grugapark and so many outstanding restaurants. See my recommendations for those too. I spent a lot of time relaxing at the spa using the steam bath and the sauna. It was perfect after walking in the rain for three hours touring Grugapark. I also really enjoyed the buffet breakfast every morning. The staff was very friendly and most spoke English fluently as well as other languages. The only downside as this place is not partnered with any hotel rewards programs so I lost out on a lot of points. Nonetheless, this place does not disappoint.

We stayed here because it was near the Messe exhibition centre. The staff are wonderful and happy to help in any way they can. The rooms are adequately spacious, clean and equipped with a minibar. The bathrooms have both baths and showers. The only downside is there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We had the buffet breakfast each day for €11. The selection is good and you can quite literally eat till you can't move any more! There is a good sized bar downstairs and a pool/spa (which we didn't visit). The restaurant offers a good choice of meals in the evening and is reasonably priced. There are bits of the place that could do with a sprucing up, but I would definitely stay here again.
