I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend from 2nd September to 6th September and loved it! The hotel staff were friendly, the space was clean and relatively quiet. We had a lovely room with a fantastic view of the port, shops etc. and often found ourselves staring out of the window for ages each morning! The hotel is positioned around an abundance of food and drinks places. We were easily able to walk around to local attractions, hire scooters, take the tour train and a 1.5 hour boat ride - I suggest going to the tourist help building so learn all the tips and tricks. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel as there were plenty of other places to eat and it seemed a tad expensive. The hotel is a 20/30 min taxi ride from the airport. Costing us about €30-40 from what I can remember. The hotel are happy to cal a taxi for you too making it v easy. I would stay here again and thoroughly enjoyed my time in Marseille!

Was booked for me because it was a work visit. Just a door from the street up set of stairs no lift but someone came down to help with bags, didnt need him but at least ge offerred. Reseption is small and also breakfast room/area. Tiny lift fits one person n bag or maybe two small people?!? Room again small but had all features wifi tv,all french channels, desk cloths hanging space, no cupboard or draws (not really needed) small bathroom. My room faced into building so v little natural light and window opened onto aircon system and a wall - so i shut it again... aircon worked fine but if you want view n light pick room that does. Breakfast usual stuff bread eggs cheese fruit etc. All staff friendly. Location is v close to port and all bars resturants etc so ideal for a visitor. After work n quick brush up easy to find good places to drink n eat go to rightside of port for best food places or head few roads inland by the hotel. Overall for 4 nights staying n working in Marseilles and goid place to stay One aspect needs pointing out... the shower space was tiny! I could only just fit through the door , prob about 12inch gap, and once in couldnt turn around, im not small but not that big so worth looking into if you are quite large big build or not goid at squeezing into tight spaces.

I visited Marseille twice for vacation in February 2020. Both times at stayed at Mama Shelter. The second one because I enjoyed the first one. The hotel has very good rooms with good natural light. Clean bathrooms with strong water pressure in the shower. Breakfast with a large variety of options in a great setting. The room is alñso a bar at night where you can have a light meal or just cocktails. The hotel is close to Cours Julien which has nice restaurants with tables on the square. To go to the Vieux Port you can either walk (about half an hour at regular pace) or take the metro at Notre Dame du Mont. I recommend the hotel if you want a Marseille experience outside the regular tourist spots, but close to them.

This hotel had been highly recommended by a well travelled friend so we were a little disappointed to say the least. Perhaps the most unfortunate aspect was the service, which so many reviews comment on favourably. When we arrived one member was on the phone having an argument, another said she couldn't do check ins and the final one was so incompetent and charmless we felt quite unwelcome. Certainly wasn't a problem having accommodation across the road, but it would have perhaps been nice - or professional - to have taken us over there and shown us access. We tried to pop back in the evening for a drink but told very abruptly the bar was closed for a private function. Some additional staff training in customer service perhaps required! Although the hotel accommodation had been renovated recently (2017?) there was some wear and tear in the shower area that made it look a bit tatty sadly, but having said that the room we were in had very comfortable beds, was very clean and had lovely towels. Incidentals were poor but it only claims to be a 3 star hotel so no problem. Bedside lights were very irritating because you had to have both on at the same time - style over substance perhaps since they were very pretty. Breakfast was acceptable but not particularly cosy/comfortable. However very hard to find anywhere else locally that served anything better. Location was good - only 5 or so minutes to the Vieux Port and many interesting side streets with independent retailers, smart shops and cafes. Shame we had to remind the hotel that they had put one of us in a cheaper room than the one we had paid for and then we had to 'negotiate' a discount. Since we work in the hospitality business I have kindly put much of this down to 'end of seasonitis' but I don't think we shall be returning to check on any improvements!

The hotel room is very large, the design must be beautiful, and the breakfast is also very delicious. It's a typical American breakfast. It's very good to have a menu to order according to your taste. The house has a sofa. It's very considerate to have a waiter come to the room to open the sofa and put it on. Beautiful surroundings of the hotel

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights to visit the city . The room was on a top floor - quite small but clean & quiet and had everything we needed. AC was there which is very important in summer. The only disadvantge of the room was a sloping wall - you need to be very careful about it not to injure yourself. We didn´t order any breakfast - there are a lot of cafes close to the hotel where you can get it cheaper. Location was good - 5 min. walk to the next underground station and the big shopping mall , as well as to the tram station . We also walked to the downtown , as it was not far away.

Spacious rooms & bathroom with a sink in the room (good for Muslims). Very clean & modern. Helpful & friendly staff. Great facilities - elevator, in-house DIY laundry machines, great breakfast in a hip section of the reception. One of the very few budget hotels that have a corner for maps of the city & brochures on sights & attractions. Close to the city centre with a 5-minute walk to the Metro station that takes you to the city centre in 15 minutes. In 10 minutes, you can reach the Saint Charles station from where you can take a shuttle bus to the airport. Buses leave every 10 minutes. Great view of the city from this statio on the upper level. Fantastic value for your money even though it is a budget hotel.

Fairly good location although not a very charming street. Rooms were the best part. Modern and well appointed thanks to the architect owners. Staff were on the whole professional and helpful. So the only downside was it wasnt clear breakfast was not included. When we asked staff prior day the young girl lead us to believe it was. The breakfast itself was a bit disappointing and overpriced. Just a buffet for roughly 30 euros per person. They did have a very big selection but we would have preferred a cooked meal instead of 100 different options including many store bought items like donuts and cheese. Nicely presented but sub par for a boutique hotel in France. I also wasnt aware we could order a coffee until the barman, who had been staring at my wife, offered one to her. I then had to get up and ask him for one rather than use their Nespresso machine. The other staff might want to train this guy on etiquette as never polite to stare at a man's wife and then offer her coffee but not the husband....hmmmm...alas for France and especially Marseille perhaps this is normal...alas some room for improvement nevertheless!

Well situated 250m from Metro station in somewhat run-down area , Odalys stands out like a breath of fresh air with its colourful exterior. Reception staff are very helpful and some speak excellent English whilst being patient with guests' pigeon French -always pleased to help where they can . Common areas, dining area and bedroom are kept spotlessly clean ,although for 7 days stay , you either do the "menage" yourself or pay extra .Appartment-style room was spacious with plenty of storage space .Room comfortable and quiet although when the Mistral blew it got a bit noisy at night . Continental breakfast pretty standard with good coffee from machine with long opening time of 6am to 10am . A couple of issues about breakfast on my departure morning were more than satisfactorily resolved. Really enjoyed my stay here , and if opportunity permits, I'll return . Special mention for Clarence ( who is a young lady despite the name ) and Sarah who were especially accomodating and helpful .

If this had been a 3 star hotel I would have thought it very good but am a bit surprised it earns four stars. The room was tiny and had some design flaws ( for instance we kept on stubbing our toes on a chair, the tap was too close to the back of the sink for one to be able to put one's hands under it to wash them) and was not entirely clean (some mucky marks on the curtains). However it was quiet and quite well appointed and the staff of the hotel were friendly. The common areas downstairs were nice, with an unexpected indoor courtyard garden, and the pool made the place truly worthwhile. The area is full of little lovely restaurants of all sorts but be warned, most except for the most common chains are closed on Sundays. We had to resort to room service which we most definitely do not recommend - all reheated frozen stuff and the most unpleasant "gaspacho" that I've ever tasted.

The hotel staff was all very friendly. They spoke good English hence making it easier for communication. Room was a bit small but still very nice and cosy. Something which I loved about this hotel was that we were given free plug adapters, upon request, to use during our stay as we forgot to bring them with us. AC and heater were available in the room. Wifi was always in good connection and with great network speed. Also, breakfast was quite good. Hotel seems quite small and has a facade which barely shows that it's a hotel. Yet it is in a very good location and you surely cannot judge the book by its cover especially in this case.

The hotel is based on a quiet but unappealing street not far from the train station. Check in was smooth however staff had extremely limited English language which continued throughout our 3 night stay. Upon arrival at the room the description of small double room was very accurate as this was as described. The bed however was barely a double, more three quarter size, the sink was situated within the bedroom and the only window was in the bathroom which was not opaque glass meaning the blinds were always closed meaning the room was always in constant darkness. I must add that the view out was disgusting (over looking a roof terrace that was covered in cigarette butts and rubbish). The shower and toilet were together in a wet room approx 1.5 metre square, this also flooded every time a shower was taken. (possibly due to uneven floor). The room was clean and presentable with tea/coffee making facilities, French only TV, bed made every morning, however this wasn't a comfortable bed, or the pillows. When i attempted to ask for a pillow, nobody in the building could understand English, so i used a cushion. There was no safe or fridge in the room but again there was only just enough room to store dust. We opted out of the overpriced breakfast that consisted of boiled eggs, packed buns, cereal and fruit for around £9 each. Instead we walked a short distance to experience true French breakfast for around £5.50 per person. The best was Brasserie Le Grand Escalier literally around the corner. Marseilles is an amazing city that we will return to, but not to this hotel.

We had a lovely stay at this fabulous hotel . It is a great location being 15 minutes walk from the station, 5 minutes walk to the harbour and metro nearby. It is a small boutique hotel that celebrates North African culture . We enjoyed the peaceful ambience and the tasteful displays of local art. Particularly enjoyed the breakfast which included a tasty Moroccan pancake topped with local honey. The staff were really friendly and welcomed us like family. We were three, each with a single room, aligned on first to third floors. The beds were in fact small doubles. The one drawback was that the tiniest bathrooms you ever saw were on the landings, though we each had sole use, and bathrobes were provided. The very reasonable price reflected this slight inconvenience. All the other bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The building was converted some 10 years ago, by stone masons. Whoever designed it must have had enormous fun ensuring that the style was totally that of a Provencal 'mas' or farmhouse. Breakfast was French and copious and laid on the table. (No buffet with the wide variety of international cuisine here, and for us that was all to the good.) We did not use the 'Roman baths' swimming pool as this was October and it was unheated. Must be wonderful in the summer. Sadly we were not informed that there was a jacuzzi until our last breakfast. The managers went out of their way to provide us with that breakfast one hour earlier than they usually start serving, as we had an early train to catch. Location was very near the central attractions of the city, but not in a tourist area itself. Many interesting restaurants to be discovered just five minutes away at Notre Dame du Mont by turning left out of the front door. Metro station there as well.

The hotel is a fairly old town house, integrated into a row of others and from the outside not very spectacular. It is a quarter, where most people would live in flats, so parking space is limited. Hotel Azur reserves some space in front of the hotel for loading and unloading the luggage. A nice entrance hall leads to a reception, where I was received in a very kind and helpful manner. It all seems a little old fashioned, also that nobody insisted on pre-payment, nowadays only in luxury hotels the case. Due to bad experience with today's society fewer and fewe} houses afford trusting in their guests being respectable people. Once you go up the stately staircase you realise that it follows the walls leaving a considerable space inside empty, allowing you to look down to the ground floor, an incredible anachronistic experience in a time, where space in cities gets increasingly valuable. And indeed Hotel Azur is located quite centrally with only 15 minutes by foot to the yacht harbour (and if you are lazy, there is a tram 200m from the hotel). I chose a small single, which was cheap, but, of course did not follow the grandeur of the staircase, but was nice apart from the toilet being directly in the room. However the night showed the only disadvantage, the thin walls, in fact the very thin walls. After hearing the neighbor so clearly moving in his bed, I had the impression to share a double with him, I did not dare to switch on the lights, in case they shone through the wall waking him up. Following his sleep he did not have any problem with the noise I made, so this depends really on your sleep. Next mornings breakfast suits the old fashioned environment: rather than being expected to run around with your plate and organise your breakfast yourself your first meal of the day will be served, if you wish, in a wonderful multi level back yard, giving you a colonial feel or at least what you would have expected from typical Southern French Retreat.

We recently stayed in the hotel. Basic but you have everything what you need. Very comfortable bed and the memory foam pillows were amazing. The evening receptionist guy was very helpful, every day he gave us a bucket of ice, and whenever we had question about interest point he helped us a lot. Thank you for that. We did not try the breakfast, there are plenty of places to grab something in the morning. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes walk from the port. We went to couple of times to the beach, also to the calanques national park. We took a bus each time from the castallone metro station which is 5 minutes from the hotel by foot. Nr 19 bus takes you to the beach, nr B1 takes you to Luminy where the walk starts to the national park. We will be back one day.

Just back from a 2 night stay in Le Clos du jas. I had to submit a review recommending this beautiful B & B. Set back in the hills overlooking the City it is tastefully furnished and spacious. It has only two rooms and a shared lounge/diner, terrace and kitchen. All spotlessly clean. Our hosts Nicole Guy and Eoli the lovely family dog met us and showed us around. They take great pride in the Villa and gardens. The view of the distant city of Marseille and Notre Dame from the dining area and terrace were stunning. Breakfast was delightful, laid out for us by Guy on the terrace, he could not have been more helpful. All in all a great, comfortable stay. We would definitely bring friends back next time to use both rooms and have the whole accommodation to ourselves.

...after driving from Provence, into the Carmargue thru the traffic that is Marseille, we were pretty well spent by the time we pulled onto Blvd. Molinari trying to locate #13. It's not that long of a street but we did find the address, parked in front of someone else's garage door because street parking is at a premium, went up to the unassuming front door past a gate and knocked. Was met by one of the owners, a wonderfully charming woman who directed us to back up and she would open another gated entry to drive our car back to what I can only describe is a great lil' "oasis" one block from the beach in Pointe Rouge. We eventually got to meet her husband as well, who was equally chraming. This place is great! Plenty of restaurants, small stores and a bakery that are easily within a block or so a walking distance. The grounds were so nice with a welcoming soaking pool that was perfect to cool off. We're American and just had the best time enjoying the neighborhood, the city itself and drive to Bandol and Cassis with Villa Valfor being a perfect place to explore it all.

Very warm welcome, attentive staff. The cleanliness is irreproachable and the comfort pleasant. The decoration is modern and very pleasing to the eye. Large storage cupboard. A supermarket can be found a few meters from this establishment and the entrance to the Périer metro station is also nearby. I advise you to ask for a room on the courtyard side because the street side seems noisy to me. The view from the second floor does not look like an enchantment (see photo).

Stayed two nights and found hotel to be clean, comfortable and good value for money. Room was quiet and bed was very comfortable. Stayed during a heat wave but room was at perfect temperature but didn’t need to turn on the a/c! On the downside the breakfast was poor. Cheap bread rolls and greasy mini-viennoiserie, opted for the cornflakes on second day. The coffee was awful. On the upside the staff were nice, hotel clean, left luggage area is free, good WiFi, and the bathrooms electronics have to be seen to be believed :-) A good place to stay if you want value for money and stay in a modern building.

Stayed for five nights in the Merlin room which was clean and beautifully decorated. Bathroom is equipped with a hair dryer, a jet bath, toiletries and towels. Room was cleaned on a daily basis. The TV has many channels in French however with some programmes you can change the language to English. Wi fi didn't work however it wasn't a problem. The private terrace looks out onto the nearby village and surrounding hills. Room has a mini fridge with drinks(€2-€2.50),bottle opener and chocolates. It would of been nice to have tea/coffee facilities. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was served in the villa's living room, which consisted of bread, pain au chocolate, a selection of jams, a variety of cheeses, cured sausage, croissants, yoghurt and fruit, with freshly squeezed orange juice and tea/coffee. William and Mireielle were very welcoming. To get to the villa, from the airport catch a coach to Marseille- Saint Charles. Ticket costs €8. From St Charles Station get a metro 1 to La Rose. Single ticket cost €1.80. You can buy tickets for multiple voyages (journeys). From La Rose, get a No. 5 bus to Grottes Loubières. Single ticket costs €2. From the bus stop it is a 10-15 minute walk uphill. My sat nav on my phone took me to a derelict villa, much to my horror. Funnily enough, on the fence there is a sign for La Blanche. Some parts of the road are not well lit. I would recommend taking a walk through the nearby hills, visiting the Notre Dame de la guard and the shopping centre provides great refuge if the weather is poor. Didn't use the pool. Villa provides parking. Will recommend.

We stayed for 4 nights in August. We had a room with a double bed and a sofa bed for our daughter. Room was very quiet, no street noise. Not much space when sofa bed folded out, but adequate. There was a fridge and a kettle, a small amount of storage space, bathroom had a decent shower, no bath. Fairly basic room but clean and comfortable. The pool was very nice, the hotel was operating a booking system on it because of Covid, you could book a 2 hour slot. 2 hours in the Marseille summer sun was plenty! The hotel is a half hour drive from the airport, the taxi cost about 50 euros. The train station is a half hour walk away, there are quite a lot of steps by the station. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the bars and restaurants of the old port, there are one or two places close to the hotel to have a drink, and we found a nice restaurant out of the tourist area not too far away, Chez Marinette. The park next to the hotel is very nice, lovely views and good for a picnic. There is a big Carrefour 5 minutes walk away, also the beach is 5-10 minutes away. Marseille was very very busy during our stay and although we liked the city very much we would probably choose a quieter time of year to visit next time. Apparently June and September are the best times. We would stay here again if we came back to Marseille.

A central location, a stone's throw from the new museums and Docks; clean and quiet enough environments. The only flaws are a poor breakfast (even if the Covid crisis is taken into account), few parking spaces for guests' cars (book them on time) and indecently soiled windows, like the carpet leading to the rooms. In any case, recommended

Ever heard of Martin Scorsese's "After hours" (1985) ? Well, after a business meeting and an excellent dinner, our company parted heading for Marseille, whereas I booked right at L'Estaque, with a real estate visit planned for the following day. As Google was no great help, I inquired about B&B Hotel's location : "easy, you can even walk there, see, look, see it already..." Fine evening. But the neon signpost was not B&B's and the (very few) pedestrians, vaguely pointing to opposite directions for more information, knew nothing about it. Roundabouts, turnpikes, French dig "giratoires". Damned. Climbing through suburbs and nondescript neighbourhoods. Small street with forlorn bus stop, helpful young woman with iPhone, inviting to follow on the bus, about to show when and where, suddenly giving up and apologising for not boarding : "... just get down at cimetière Saint-Henri". Driver completely ignorant of the hotel's location. Does "cimetière" ring a bell ? A long high wall, there maybe ? Sleeping at the cemetery : an option ? Another giratoire. Edward Hopper's atmosphere, railings, enclosed industrial buildings. More eerie wandering about. At last B&B in sight, entirely enclosed in wire lattice. "Tournez deux fois à gauche" : turn twice left. Jesus ! Endless maze, welcome to hell. Closed from 21h (9 p.m.) Please insert your credit card. Appears a guard with a flashlight but no dog. Issues a ticket with a room code. Amount due. No elevator. Second floor. Three star prison. Wonderful and very clean room, sparkling bathroom. Dead tired. Nightmare & sweet dreams. But no more hell & heaven for me, thanks...

The room was cold, as it was on the shady side of the building - try to select a room on the sunny side. But there is free parking on the premises, which is handy, as it is at the top of a steep rise. The staff were very kind. The restaurant was closed on one day of my visit, and I was physically handicapped at the time, and could not walk down the steep slope to the shops below to get some lunch. The reception staff organised a generous meal for me in the reception lounge, setting up a table and serving me themselves. I don't forget little things like this (this was in May 2017).
