This is a great place to relax just outside the center of Chiang Mai. Located in a very quiet area, yet plenty of restaurants and even a supermarket within walking distance. We were warmly welcomed by the female housekeeper. There are 3 rooms. Our room had a living room, bedroom, large bathroom and a terrace where in the morning the delicious breakfast was brought. The room was very clean, the domain very well maintained. The pool, also very clean, was ideal after a day of hiking. The Monks Trail is accessible on foot from the Villa. Our car could be parked within the domain. We got a lot of information from the female housekeeper who even made us 2 Krathongs for the Loy Krathong on November 11th. (Thanks again!!).

After my usual place to stay, across the road from Tapae Gate, turned from budget to boutique hotel and with it the price level, I walked down Tapae Road in order find a “new old place”. And I found the Tapae Inn Hotel. It is old and worn and if you like fancy hotels, you would not be happy here. But for me it is good enough and nothing beats the price in this location (380 Bhat/Night). When I don’t sleep, I am out exploring the town any way. That it is very close to my favourite Indian restaurant is just another plus. The halls and corridors are styled like a museum. They are packed with old advertisements, old newspaper articles and movie posters. Most of it comes from the 1960s and 70s. - Most rooms can be secured with an additional pad lock. - The WiFi internet in the room is really fast. - At least my room had hot shower and I think they all have. - Rooms are air-conditioned. - They sell a limited number of beverages from a fridge next to the reception. - The lady at the reception is very friendly and helpful. - The reception counter is open 24/7. - It is very close to the night market (2 minutes). - “Spices” Indian Restaurant is nearby (1 Minute). - Tapae Gate is 5 to 10 minutes away. - A small Tops supermarket is across the road. The lady that runs the reception desk is very friendly and the guy on night duty was very helpful and efficient when I had trouble with the air-conditioner at midnight. The next Soi leads you straight into the Chiang Mai China Town area (1 minute walking). There is a big, red sign pointing you in the right direction. An additional sign gives Information about other highlights of China Town. Hundreds of travel agencies in Chiang Mai call themselves “Tourist Information” in order to lure in travellers. The official tourist information office, run by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), is only 3 minutes away, on the same side of the road and near the river.

I would highly recommend this hostel. It is approx a 10 minute walk to the old town, although most places are accessible within a approx 25 min walk. The hostel itself is really chilled out and great if you’re looking for somewhere that is quiet and you can actually sleep etc. The rooms were spacious, with a large locker in the downstairs. The bathrooms were cleaned every morning. I personally didn’t find the shower being a wet room an issue. There was tea, coffee and biscuits accessible all day. With bread out in the mornings to toast. The staff were lovely. There is a seating area outside to chill, as well as a balcony and small sofa area upstairs.

I had two amazing stays at the River Art Hotel. The first time I was with a group of friends, where we were blown away by the facilities and the super cool atmosphere. The second time I stayed was on my own after being in a accident. The staff went above and beyond to look after me and make sure my stay was easy and comfortable. I can’t recommend the River Art Hotel higher. While not located in the middle of the city, it’s position is still very convenient. The food was great. Haus Hostel was my very first hostel experience. The staff here is very friendly and were able to recommend places to go that were close by. I loved that they had a keycard entry system and that you received your own key for your room. The rooms were clean. Mine had 6 beds in it and each bed had a very large storage unit. For the first night I was the only person in the room and the second and third only one other person was in the room with me. The beds are pretty hard, but I’m finding that to be really common in Thailand. The A/C works really good but the staff kept turning it off during the day. I’m sure they do this to save money, but the rooms get really hot. The bathrooms were nice and clean. They provide body soap, shampoo, and a towel. I loved that they had a rooftop seating area and little places to sit throughout the hostel. Breakfast is free but you have to make it yourself. The have bread, eggs, and cereal. This hostel is also in a really good location right outside of the old city.

I spent only one night for a couple hours to catch my early morning flight at Chiang Mai airport. The hostel is located on the perfect location where is easy access to Central Plaza Airport Chiangmai only 3 minutes by walk and just 5 minutes ride to the airport. The toilet, shower room, bunk bed room, bed, sheets and public area are very well clean and great renovation by the staff. The lite snack such a cookies, coffee and tea are also available with free of charge at the pantry. The hostel is built with airport terminal style, I do like it very much. There is only one swimming pool on the 2nd floor with 50THB access fee (limited time open), the body and face towels 20THB/set fee additionaly(upon request), private airport transfer is only 150THB with 24 hours service by the hotel staff as you may request upon check in. Also the self and fast check out is available, no duty staff 24 hours however they will standby near the hostel with phone call in. The staffs were helpfully and friendly, and accommodate by the owner Ms. DEANG or Aunt Deang with her assistant Ms. NUN, superb guest service. This hotel was on a quiet series of soi’s (backstreets) so it was away from the noise but filled with cheaper massage places and restaurants which I appreciated. The breakfast was delicious- I usually got the fried rice. The bed was comfy and I appreciated the balcony which had a drying rack so I could do laundry. The only downside was that there was an enormous cockroach found in my room one morning and ants were on the walls in certain spots, but otherwise I would recommend!

Stayed 20 nights over christmas and new year at this new hotel in Kampangdin Soi 1. The hotel is very new, and the rooms are modern and clean. There is free minibar service that includes 2 bottles of soda (1 coke and 1 Fanta), orange juice and some snacks. This is filled up again during room cleaning. The beds are some of the best I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. They are firm, but not in the usual thai style. The aircon worked well in both the rooms I stayed in. There was some issue with the water lock (or missing water lock) in my second room, and the hallway is quite noisy. The noise is due to no rubber insulation around the doors, and this would have helped keep the noise down from others closing their doors. Due to this I will give 4 out of 5 to this hotel. I was first put on 4th floor, where there were some sound from the waterpump on the roof. When mentioned to the staff they moved me with no hassle down to 3rd floor where it was more quiet. Around New Year some young thai teenagers moved in to the room directly above me and where somewhat noisy. When mentioning this to the staff they promptly moved the teenagers down to first floor. I especially want to thank the staff who were friendly and went beyond expectation. At New Year they also hand delivered personalized postcards and cookies wishing me a Happy new year. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

We came to the Sripoom boutique house after a one night stay in another hotel that was very uncomfortable. Looked at the room and felt the bed before booking a week! The bed was new and very comfortable, which is important for us! Great location, not as shown on the TripAdvisor map, the hotel is just across the street from the Sripoom fort on the northeast corner of old Chiang Mai. Very short walk along the moat and you are in the old city. Lovely and helpful reception, clean room with east facing balcony overlooking the corner. Large mini bar fridge, wardrobe, good hot shower. My wife tore a ligament slipping in a waterfall during a mountain trip, and we were offered assistance and tiger balm ointment, which helped. Good sushi restaurant attached, but for breakfast we always went to Banlanna a few meters away. In the hotel there is always tea and coffee available in the lobby, but no restaurant. We rented a car for part of the stay and the location had excellent access to all the roads to the many different attractions in the area. Loved our stay here and the people!

My partner and I stayed here for 5 days and had a great experience. The rooms are clean and the beds are firm (as they are through out Asia) yet comfortable. We had a two twin bed room which was perfect for us - we like having separate beds in case we have trouble with sleeping as a result of jet lag. I’m also 6 feet tall and was comfortable with the size of my bed. The air conditioner worked really well. The bathroom was a decent size and large enough to comfortably shower in. Electric sockets are 250 volt which was great for my partner’s hair straightener (she used it twice while we stayed here). To our surprise, breakfast was complimentary and consisted of eggs, toast, fresh cucumber and tomato, juice, and coffee. I’m not sure of this is always available but we certainly appreciated it. Aside from the nice rooms and breakfast, the best part of our stay was the staff - everyone was super friendly and nice. The hotel manager, Donut, was especially lovely and made our stay extra special by going out of her way to help us make reservations, order taxis, and asked great questions to ensure that we were having fun and making the most of our experience. Donut spoke English very well and we really appreciated her help. We would definitely stay here again!

Adding up twice, Chiang Mai lived for more than 70 days. It was very good at the beginning. Nowadays, there are many people in the busy season. The breakfast is really good at the earliest. Now the meatball soup and the pork ribs soup are gone. In the past few days, even the fried eggs have changed. At 23 o'clock in the evening, because there are old people who have children who open the house for half a day, they actually tell me that the room rate is half a day from 12 o'clock to 14 o'clock, and more than 14 o'clock is a day's price. I am not opening the clock room for you on the first day. It was very serious to meet a skinny waiter to clean the room. Except for the fact that she did not have a waiter to clean it, she was perfunctory. In the last half of the month, she was almost not cleaned. In short, this disappointment is too much!

We stayed at Hugnur Hostel for 3 nights. It's a quiet hostel with a coffee shop on the side and a separate communal area to make some food if you want. We had a double room with air con. The bed was comfortable. The room had a kettle, two bottles of water (replaced every day), chair and small table and a rack for hanging some clothes up. We also had a little balcony area which looks onto the next building and we used it to dry some clothes. The floor was concrete, though this was fine for us, but you wouldn't want to drop anything breakable on it. Bathroom was a shower, toilet and sink and towels were provided, as was shower gel and shampoo. Hugnur has a great look and was a great base in which to explore Chiang Mai. We used the White Laundry to wash, dry and iron clothes (40 Baht a kg), we dropped off the morning of day one and picked up in the evening of day two. This is about 3 streets up from the hostel, a 5 min walk. We also ate at the little side cafe two doors up from the hostel. Great fresh food, cooked to order for a good price (50/60 Baht per meal) by a lovely Thai lady, who speaks good English.
