6.29km from Baba King Nonya DeliThe best thing about this property is its location. It is located in a very serene environment with greenery all around. The Changi area has always been a nostalgic place, and this property is away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the mad life out there in general. There is ample of free parking spaces available, so having guests coming over to visit wasn't an issue.
Most of the rooms are located in a different block from the main lobby, so if you have a person with mobility issues in your company, that may be a bit of a hassle as you have to take two elevators and walk quite a bit. The Pulai tree in the middle of the two blocks is just simply beautiful though. Again, this place is filled with nature and greenery, so if you appreciate nature, this is the place for you.
There are walkways beside the property that look like parks, but they were closed to everyone, including guests. I'm not sure if it is because of the current movement restrictions in place, but if this place is closed to guests even at other times, then I think this is ridiculous. It would be a really a beautiful place to take a morning or evening stroll.
The staff were friendly and helpful, right from the Assistant Reservations Manager who handled some of my queries, the front-office staff, the cafe staff and the "Malay uncle" who assists with checking in guests at the cafe for breakfast and who has been mentioned in other reviews as well - all except for one of the front-office staff who either was rude by nature or he just chose me to be rude and dishonest to me every time we spoke. I would be very surprised if there has not been any feedback about this particular chap prior to this as he is not suited to work at the front office or be in a customer-service role. There was a short period of time when the televisions in the rooms stopped working owing to a server problem and I called for a maintenance technician to my room. He promptly showed up within a few minutes.
I am not sure how this property has been rated 4-stars in some booking websites. It does not have its own swimming pool (although it has tied up with the Civil Service Club nearby which has a beautiful swimming pool), no bathtub, and no fridge in the room (most frequent complaint in reviews). The room comes with either a hanging chair or a large bean bag, and a wall to doodle on - which are nice initiatives, but no fridge? There is a coffee-machine though.
The property could also use a little bit of maintenance. The exterior walls of the property when walking towards the main lobby are badly stained, causing the building to look old and badly maintained. I booked two rooms, and the drapes and bathroom sink in one of my rooms had stains on them. The back of the furniture in the rooms were full of dust. And if you're booking a room with one big bed, it's not actually one big king or queen-sized bed - it is two single beds brought together. So if you like sleeping in the middle of a big bed, you'll most likely be waking up with a bad back. The wooden flooring in my other room was also damaged in the middle of the room - which makes it easy to trip on as the wooden boards are pointed upwards rather sharply.
I have also seen in other booking websites, and read reviews from other guests that Loccitane products were available in their rooms. But there was none of such products available in both my rooms, save for basic (and cheap) amenities. Are these products only offered to some guests?
The breakfast is nice and basic for a free breakfast, with variety in local cuisine daily. However, it could seriously improve on its tea - it tastes like a 3-in-1 and the local coffeeshops at Changi Village serve better "teh-tarik".
On the overall, it is a great place for a get-away, but it could also improve in some ways like the ones suggested above. I sincerely hope the property would address some of my feedback though - especially the one about the Loccitane products.
