I think this is a perfect location in San Diego. It's in PB, but a few blocks off Garnet. So it's not loud all night, but still very close to accessing everything by foot. While it's not ocean front, It's only steps from the beach. If I really strained, I technically could see the ocean from my window. ha. I was staying here alone and felt safe the entire time. The manager (I think) Jim, is awesome! One of the friendliest interactions with hotel staff and he made an extra effort to accommodate my early check in after I had a very unpleasant night at a different hotel and ended up leaving that hotel and driving around all night. The rooms are nice and clean and come with all the basics that you'd need. I will note that you have to check in at the "sister hotel" and not Pacific Shores Inn. Again, not a big deal for me, but I can see this might be an annoyance to those that like everything at their finger tips. It's one short block away and actually I find having the check in at a different hotel kind of nice. It meant that at 11am and 3pm, there wasn't an influx of people parking randomly to check in and out... because they were doing that at the other hotel. The only advise I can give to the hotel is that it's not overly clear that you check in at a different location until you arrive and see the sign on what would be the lobby. This information definitely should be obviously displayed blatantly upon booking. Big bold print or something at the top of your confirmation email. Probably would save even the the staff some headaches of dealing with phone calls. The ONLY down side to this hotel is that there is a bit of a musky smell. I have stayed at the PB Surfside Inn (their sister location) a few times before and experienced the same thing. I have only stayed at these two hotels in PB, so maybe this is a normal part of being this close to the beach? I really don't know. I do live close to the ocean myself, but in a much colder climate, so I don't have the experience at home. But it does seem like it's a moisture/humidity issue that could possibly be dealt with via better ventilation? Again, I'm no expert on the topic. And given that I'm a repeat customer, it obviously does not bother me too much. Just worth mentioned if you have any sort of sensitivities to such things. I will 100% return to one of their hotels.

We stayed @ this hotel 3yrs ago & loved it.. staff was great & the room was nice & clean.. not this time. We stayed 3 nights & had dirty towels upon arrival (had to ask for new ones), walk-in shower filled up with water above our ankles which leaked out on the floor & into the room, took about 15mins to drain. We let the office staff know & 1 gal said that was normal, the other offered maintenance to look @ it or give us a new room, we took the room. That room had clean towels & a working shower, but both were dated & had a funky smell, walls are super thin, could hear the people next door @ wee hours of the a.m. (woke us up). The best part was the location: walking distance to beach & restaurants but this will definitely be the last time we stay here. Also when we checked out the guy @ the desk didn't even ask "how was your stay?" like most places do, if he did we definitely would've gave our honest opinion.

This hotel is really recommended. I go to San Diego many times because I live in Los Angeles. I have basically stayed in various hotels. I have also stayed in many Airbnb by the sea. The quality of Airbnb in the United States is generally uneven and unclean. I still like to stay in a hotel. The location of this hotel is near Mission Bay and not around the main attractions, but San Diego itself is small and safe, so it doesn't matter. The hotel facilities are very good. The suites I live in have simple kitchens. It is very convenient to travel with children. The room is large and the view is very good. It is very suitable for traveling with children

We stayed here in July 2020 and the room was just as clean then as it was this week when we stayed again. The biggest problem was when we went to take a shower there was no towels. When I called to get towels I felt like I was on speakerphone and not being heard very well. The gentleman had me on hold for several minutes and then I got disconnected. I never got towels delivered to my room and we ended up having to dry off with 1 face cloth and hand towel after our shower before bed. We heard some people talking a little loud outside right before bed but figured it would die down. Ended up getting louder and louder outside our door. And then about 3:00 in the morning I heard a gentleman‘s voice very stern outside these people doors telling them to knock it off, they already been warned and must go in their room and quiet down. I was very impressed with the professionalism and stern voice he used. It was completely quiet after that. So I may not of gotten towels for a shower but room was very clean and they took care of the partiers down the hall. What more could you ask for? I would stay again. Probably sooner than later.

My wife and I, along with my oldest daughter and her husband stayed at Ocean Park last week. We had rooms next to each other on the 3rd floor with ocean views (which I recommend). Naturally we're in the midst of covid restrictions and all that implies. Having said that... The rooms were great! A lot of thought has gone into even small details of the room design. One of those small details is the light switch on each side of the bed is easy to reach and you don't have to go searching for an outlet for your phone charger. As a matter of fact, the outlets have 2 USB ports. There was a refrigerator in our room. There was also a pull-out couch. The shower pressure wasn't going to penetrate your skin, but was adequate. Compliments of covid, you have to go down to the desk to order new towels to be delivered to your room. That isn't exclusive to this hotel -- that's standard operating procedure these days. The 'continental' breakfast consisted of a sealed paper bag with an apple, orange, a bottle of water and something else. The desk has them and you have to ask for it. They also have discounts for military and old farts like myself. Everyone, from the manager to the other desk personnel were very friendly. There is a 7-11 and other stores easily within walking distance from the hotel. The parking will cost you $20.00 per day. It's in an underground parking garage and you can load your luggage and take it up the elevator. The view of the ocean and the sound of the ocean when you leave your patio door open is outstanding. Unfortunately the sound of the local homeless population is something we contended with. Beginning early in the morning they are loud (and sometimes profane). They homestead along the wall below. They can be entertaining at times however. One guy we referred to as, 'Captain Jack Sparrow' had a pirate hat, a red cape and black boots like you would wear to a costume party. When we mentioned it to hotel management they said to be sure to contact them when that happens and they will call the police to deal with it. Might want to keep that in mind. Most of the local 'entertainment' are pretty non-intrusive. They pretty much keep to themselves and don't do cat calls at your wife and daughters. They didn't do any cat calls or whistle at me either. I may not have been there type. Seriously, aside from the early morning noise (I can only assume they are all mostly deaf and that's why they have to yell when they talk), they weren't much of a factor. There are beachside shops all along the walkway to shop at. Fun to shop at. The bottom line is, the next time we visit San Diego you can bet we'll be staying at Ocean Park Inn if available. If not for the noisy early morning chatter I would have given them a 5 rating. I will enclose some photos. Keep in mind the room was much neater before we started to 'live' in it. It's much nicer than the photos of the room would suggest.

Came here from Las Vegas for MDW with my husband and it was a total vibe. Right in the middle of the action in Pacific Beach and fits the chill beach hotel category perfectly. Staff is always friendly and engaging. The two gentleman who checked us in on Saturday were lovely and a huge help. Parking was easy and convenient and well worth the $30 per day. Not sure about all those great reviews. This hotel is more like a motel of the 1960s and not representative of the HIE I stay at across the country. Our room bathroom was dirty. I would say the tile grout has never been cleaned. The carpet in the room was also dirty. They have a dark old style carpet that is hard to see the dirt. VERY noisy air conditioner. Really tight parking spaces and few of them. This place really needs to be updated. It's the oldest worst one I think I have ever stayed at. The breakfast was ok and one of the main reasons we stay at HIE locations.

Great location near the gaslamp, parking on scene is a big nope but there is a great structure nearby called "park it on market" I was able to park before checking in for a one night stay and get in my car the next afternoon for $16 total, well worth it. Check in was fun asf, free house bevvy to start the experience is absolutely my vibe, and standard drink prices were decent for the setting, love Love LOVE the games and general house party vibe. The room, was.... Tiny, and guess what? Still more comfy than the hoody your ex won't give back. Can see that the design is meant for people who have more in life happening then the square footage of their room. Perfect for a couple nights though I can see it getting weird on a long term stay. No view expect some weird lights in the main corridor, but if not for those lights I daresay i might have spotted some flesh from another persons room, so smart design choice there. No breakfast makes me sad, I wouldn't have eaten it anyway but I want my money's worth you know??? (gotta love that some people won't read the sarcasm there.) But considering the amount of local places to grab any kind of grub you could wish upon a star, I think most will be able to survive not being served a buffet of cheap over touched food. will be back!

The hotel’s swimming pool and the jacuzzi next to the pool are great, and there is also a bar next to the pool. When the bonfire is lit in the evening, it feels particularly good. Very suitable for drinking and chatting ~ very comfortable. It’s not very hot in San Diego in August, especially at night. The swimming pool is still very cold, so it's good to go to the bubble bath and grill. The hotel is divided into west building and north building, with different scenery on both sides. Some rooms have bathtubs and some do not. There are shops like Starbucks downstairs. Very convenient for communication and travel~ I have stayed in other hotels in San Diego, I have only stayed in this one in the city, but I feel like I will stay here next time I travel.

We were called three days before we were to arrive to see if we would like to change our reservation from a king to a queen with two beds. We said no we want our original reservation we made 2 1/2 months ago with a king bed and a balcony not over the pool. When we got there we were given a room with a balcony at the end that only had room to stand on. Attaching a picture so you can see it. We came down and complained and they gave us a room over the pool where we did not want. After some negotiation and a little heartburn we eventually ended up in our original requested room but we had to stay in the room over the pool for one night. This is a small hotel and there are not very many rooms available away from the street or the pool area.

The location is great, in the gaslamp quarter. About half an hour walk from the famous Balboa Park. It is not too far from the port of San Diego. Many bars and restaurants downstairs. Good is very convenient, and bad is very noisy at night. The choice for nightlife is right here. The music downstairs is a lot of Latin and there are street bands. Okay. The staff were very welcoming. Will organize a city tour. Breakfast is average, no milk. The decoration is very unique, the patio is very warm, but unfortunately there is no time to enjoy. There is a separate kitchen in the dormitory room for many people. The stove is complete, which means less utensils. You can make the seafood you buy. Remember to buy the seasoning yourself. We were in San Diego for one of our very best friends’ wedding and chose this hotel since it was nearby and our preference is Marriott. Our stay was wonderful; we found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The front desk staff to be very friendly and always helpful. I’d like to make special note of Tiffany, who went above and beyond. From the moment we called to request the shuttle (and early check in since we had just arrived from the east coast), she took exceptionally good care of us - promptly, proficiently and always with a smile. When we mentioned that it was my birthday and we had a nice evening planned, she thoughtfully took a birthday card and goodie bag to our room as a surprise. Unfortunately she was already off duty when we returned to the room to see it, but her extra kind gesture was much appreciated. As someone that exemplifies Marriott’s core values (putting people first, pursuing excellence, embracing change, acting with integrity and serving our world - found on Marriott website), if there is another way I can submit her for an award please let me know. Thank you!

This is a nice, clean hotel with a beautiful social area and pool in the center. The room was very nice and surprisingly quiet. The parking is cheap for the area at $12/day. The bed was even comfortable. I would give it 5 stars BUT the restaurant was closed, the parking lot is in rough shape and, at the time, there was no place to eat at within a few miles on a Sunday afternoon except McDonalds. To nitpick, the kid sized bathtub was unexpected, and a little strange. IF everything were to open back up in the area and they repaved the parking, it would be a nice resort in the northern San Diego area.

The hotel manager is quite rude! It is estimated that he discriminates against the country. I was maliciously opposed to me that morning because I complained to their hotel headquarters that the air conditioner was not muted and the carpet was cleaned. At the time I was working on the documents in the lobby, he asked me to go back to my room immediately! Later, two staff members told me with a tough attitude that they should find them. Not only will I not find them, I will complain to them at this headquarters!

Shout out to Drake and Corin. We were welcomed in as Titanium members. Our room wasn’t ready, and after a long day of travel at first it was a bummer but hey point us in the direction of coffee and we’ll be good! Drake directed us to Spill the Beans and said he would be in touch when the room was ready. Spill the Beans was awesome! And as promised not only did I receive a text message saying that our room was ready but he also called to let us know! By the time we got back to the hotel Corin was the new employee at the front desk and she was kind enough to include a buy one get one free offer for an alcohol beverage at the rooftop bar AND breakfast was included. WIN!!! Our room was clean upon arrival. The valet staff was nothing short of exceptional! The best part, was we had requested a 4pm check out as our flight doesn’t depart until 8pm, and Corin was very generous to oblige. Especially considering tomorrow in the Gas Lamp district will be very busy. It was extremely generous and we are beyond grateful for this extension of our room stay. Was truly a great stay for a Marriott property, we last stayed at the US Grant and well.. let’s just say the kindness was not as generous. Will definitely rebook at the Courtyard Marriott Gaslamp.
