0.17km from Bistrot Cuor di CaffeOne night after checking out of Palazzo del Poeta and we already wish we were back. It is absolutely an oasis of tranquility in the middle of frenetic Palermo. The owner Rosa is the perfect hostess, insisting that she wanted us to feel as if we’re in our own home. Well, it actually felt better than our own home, because every morning a young lady came to bring our breakfast, a gorgeous assortment of fruit, and fresh pastries like cannoli, croissants, and fruit tart, biscuits, and some salami and cheese. The Lavazza machine made both regular and decaf coffee, cappuccino, macchiato, and 4 other varieties. There is a large selection of tea bags if you prefer tea. And in the evening after a long day touring Palermo and eating dinner, we return to our little sanctuary to select an after dinner drink, Grappa, Jack Daniels, Bailey’s, or Zibibbo (like a light sherry), all complimentary. Also complimentary and available all day are water, both still and sparkling, lemon and orange drinks, and more cookies and biscuits. The hotel is very new, open since February 2019, and has a beautiful design. Three bedrooms share a spacious common living area, where breakfast is served, and a library in the loft. In the mornings and evenings Rosa turns on satellite radio for soothing music. Our bedroom area was huge, maybe 30 sq meters, over 225 sq ft. The bathroom had a toilet and bidet and shower with a fantastic rain shower head. Despite being located a couple blocks off Via Roma, the neighborhood is quiet, and the windows all have heavy duty shutters. We could not hear any street noise. The building was once occupied by the Palermo poet Giovanni Meli, and is still being renovated. The ground floor has a gallery and a wide staircase leading to the first floor. We would not have known about this hotel if our original flight to Palermo had not been canceled, and we had to book a flight 3 days earlier. Our original hotel could not accommodate us for the extra nights, but offered to book us at the Palazzo del Poeta. When did a canceled flight ever end with such great results? Almost never, but definitely in this case we are so happy to have discovered this hotel. Thank you, Rosa. Grazie, merci, danke, gracias.
