I always try to be balanced in my reviews. Remember, my views may not be that of others and are subjective. We have stopped in St Malo before and what a lovely place!! We’re good shoes as the streets are mostly cobbled. There’s plenty of parking but it’s either on street or close by in a car park. So onto the hotel. It is very well located just inside the city walls and a very short walk from most of the car parks. The hotel is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, so you shouldn’t have any issues find the right cuisine. The small reception is modern, clean, bright and quiet. It also incorporates a small bar and the prices are very good. We were located on the third floor and in total there are five. If you have poor mobility or a large person, you must ask for a ground floor room. TRUST ME, you do not want to go up the spiral staircase. There is a lift, again if you are large or don’t like small spaces the lift will freak you out! The room was clean and basic. There was a shower only. A colour TV was wall mounted but no drink making facilities. There is always coffee and cakes on tap in reception, free of charge. There is no AIR Conditioning, be warned. The hotel is breakfast only. If you like a full English, then this is NOT for you. It is even one of the most basic continental breakfasts we’ve had. I guess it’s enough to put you on with cereal, bread, ham, cheese and cakes. Nope, not even boiled eggs or toast! Our room backed on to one of the town streets and if the other tourists weren’t noises then the seagulls were! The staff were more than obliging and were always cheerful. There is some small chairs and sofas with a table top computer in reception. Value for money, well they are all much of a muchness and we paid £333 for three nights in early July. So it’s on par with others. If you need other bits then adjust the filters on your search. I though I had bit missed a few bits. Anyway, France is always nice and the weather has always been very good to us.

The minute you arrive at Des Marins you are welcomed by the very friendly - English speaking staff and the hotel is very modern having recently been refurbished although lacking character a little. The room we booked was a Superior but it was very basic although nice and light and airy. The most annoying thing was that there is no mirror in the bedroom and only one pillow each. The un-environmentally-friendly plastic cups wrapped in plastic bags in the bathroom were annoying as a glass that could be washed would have been much better. The parking has a very small opening and we were glad we were not in my husband's big car! We did see people struggling to get in later in the day but it was handy to have the parking for a cost of 12euros per night. The hotel offered a map and even emailed me one of the city.

There are numerous places to stay in St. Malo, needless to point out. We chose this based on the opinion of a colleague who stayed here to attend a conference and she thought it fine. It is smack in the center of the action and so close to the underground car park and numerous other above ground parking lots. It is a 15 min walk to the Condor ferry to Jersey and Guernsey. Our room (107) was very large, clean and neat, large comfortable bed, large bath with bath and shower and a window open to the main square below. The elevator is nearly literally the size of two average people standing front to back; with luggage, one person at a time but it is an elevator. Front desk was polite, efficient and helpful. Recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights here at the hotel and would definitely stay there again. Could not beat the location. Perfect situated intra muros. We drove here from Roscoff after getting the ferry from Plymouth and really appreciated being able to park in their garage around the corner. Fabulous smallish family-run hotel, large bedroom with super comfy bed and nice en suite with bath. Even though the shops and restaurants were literally on the doorstep it was quiet at night and we slept really well. Lovely continental breakfast with plenty to eat. We had juices, fresh pastries and bread/toast with eggs and there was plenty more that we didn't eat. No complaints and everything was very clean and well organised. Every day there was a jar of toffees in our room which was a nice touch. We love Saint Malo. It's a beautiful old place and I really recommend staying within the old city walls. Perfect for a relaxing few days. Photo is the view from our bedroom window at night.

Unfortunately we had to cut short our visit due to a sudden Bereavement. They were very understanding and only charged us for the few nights we stayed instead of the ten nights we booked. We enjoyed a superb stay at Quic en Groine. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and friendly and patiently advised us on what to see, where to dine and where to park. The hotel is in a stunning location within the walled old town - next to the ramparts. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the rooms were comfortable and tastefully furnished. Groups of friends stayed in different hotels at the same time and none had as comfortable or as welcoming an experience! This is the best place to stay in the beautiful town of St Malo

Stayed here overnight prior to our return back to the UK. The hotel is situated next to the ramparts in a good location. We were greeted by a very friendly, helpful young lady, giving an immediate positive first impression of what our stay would be like. Our room was on the second floor, up a winding staircase that some visitors may find challenging but we were fortunate to have a room with a sea view. The room was neat and compact, clean with a comfortable bed. The shower room was clean with a decent shower. As our room was on the rear of the building, we were not disturbed by any traffic noise throughout the night. Perhaps there may have been some nocturnal sounds internally before midnight drifting down the hallway from other rooms, but - hey, it was a saturday night in a romantic walled city in France. What is wrong with a little love to light up the world? Breakfast was served in the bar across the street. Again we were greeted by the lovely, cheerful young lady, once more setting the mood for a very enjoyable buffet style breakfast. Atmospheric mood music playing in the background while sat at a window seat looking out on a gate way leading to the beach, freshly baked bread and croissants, so French, so good. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we will return and thoroughly recommended.

A splendid, contemporary hotel in an amazing position, overlooking the seafront and within 60 seconds of the walled area. Pool was busy as it had a limit due to Covid. Hotel and staff were very welcoming and very helpful (considering the Covid climate) and the room was perfect. Lovely crisp bed-linen, amazing shower with lovely toiletries. Added extras were the Nespresso machine, bottled water and sweeties. The staff were very, very helpful, especially Marime on the front desk and also the male bartender on duty. Drinks were on-point, with added extras. Nothing was too much trouble, including helping with the parking meter. Our only ‘issue’ was parking - it’s advertised but it’s limited, so you have to book - which we didn’t know. This was one of our reasons for choosing this hotel. There was local parking, both on the street and at a nearby carpark (at a charge). We would definitely return.

Stayed here for 2 nights before sailing from St. Malo back to Portsmouth. We had a duplex family room which had a beautiful sea view and was spotlessly clean. It’s a short walk across the seafront to the restaurants and shops of the walled town. The only downside of this hotel is that when we arrived the car park was full so we had to do a few laps of the streets around the hotel to find a parking space. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Nice small property right by the seashore and a short walk to the tourist center (intramuros). Well-worth splurging for an ocean-view room. Excellent breakfast selection. Nice bright clean room with comfortable bedding as expected with the Accor properties. The staff was very friendly and helpful and accommodated our request to extend our stay by an extra evening staying in the same room. Only negative was water bottle not provided beyond the first night. Highly recommended

Really nice hotel with direct access to the beach in walking distance to the old town (if you like walking); friendly staff, very supportive and competent; we booked one night but as the city is really nice, we extended our stay another night, which was not a problem at all. Thank you for a good Kyriad experience, we will definetly book this one again next time. btw: nice fish restaurant very nearby, excellent quality for reasonable money, not cheap but worth it

We stayed in the Aubade in August, booking on the hotel’s own website. The cost for one night was €109, which didn’t include breakfast. The hotel is about 1km from the centre. There is on-street parking which costs about €4 per day via a parking metre. We arrived at 1pm and deposited our bags until the room was ready at 3pm [check-out 11am]. When we returned and given the keys to our room, which overlooked an inner-courtyard, we were met with a strong smell of cigarette smoke. On the window ledge there was some tobacco ash. When we asked the receptionist for a change of room, she replied that the hotel was fully booked up. She also said that she couldn’t smell any evidence of smoking, as she wiped the ash off the ledge with a piece of toilet tissue. She then suggested we leave the window open and go to reception for a cup of tea, and offered us an air freshener. We had no option but to remain as everywhere in St. Malo was booked up. As to the room. There is a wide-angle picture on the Booking.com site which inflates its size. The room was no more than a single masquerading as a double. There were no storage facilities for clothes or luggage. From the ceiling were 4 clothes hangers suspended on wires. These impeded access to the tiny bathroom. As regards facilities, there was no kettle or tea making facilities. There was a bare minimum of toiletries. Our room had no air conditioning - ok when the weather is temperate, but I imagine maintaining an equitable temperature in a heat-wave would be difficult. The carpet was tired and discoloured. At night there are no staff available, so guests are given a key to gain access to the building. To recap, most budget hotels I have stayed in are better and much cheaper than the Aubade. See my previous reviews. The breakfast, which we didn’t have was expensive for what looked like very basic fare. It seemed to us that this place could do with more attentive management and quality standards that conform to modern practice. I am always surprised at how much improved most hotels are. However, the Aubade is a reminder of what we once had to put up with. But I suppose in a wildly popular tourist destination like St. Malo it is easier to fill rooms, despite their inadequacy.

Amazing BnB really worth the detour, Marie and Loik really make you feel at home as soon as you get there: the BnB is cozy and also offers significant extras such as 2 home made dinners a week which is very convenient when traveling with kids or just when you don’t feel like going back out in the evening, also very good breakfast, lunch basket options for when you’re gone all day. Loik was very helpful and provided a lot of recommendations as far as places to visit and restaurants to try. Marie dug out beach toys for our twins to play on the beach, super sweet. Finally the place was spick and span and the rooms decorated with taste. Thank you Marie and Loik, we’ll be back for sure! Ursula, Antoine, Céleste, Lilly and Valentin 😊

We spent 2 nights there and it’s for sure that we would like to come back) The room was middle-sized, but very clean and bright. The sea-view rooms cost around 50 euro more per night, but certainly worth it. The sound of the waves and lots of seagulls, that you can feed right from your window, is very relaxing. Great roof terrace with nice view and bar. The minus is that we had asked for a room with French balcony (means 1st to 3rd floor) while booking well in advance, but we got a 4th-floor one with a regular window. Still it was unforgettable in the positive sense)

What a lovely little gem of a hotel. Many hotels call themselves ‘boutique’ when really all they have to offer is a bit of quirky decor. This truly is boutique. A beautiful old house and so tastefully decorated. Really feels like you are staying in a family home, but a gorgeous one with all the facilities. Emmanuel and Helene are so attentive. Our room was small, but had everything we needed and breakfast was lovely. The prune cake is lush. Parking also available in a small area at the front of the hotel. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Hotel Antinea is in beautiful location and its proximity to the sea is a real plus. The room was comfortable and clean, although not the one we had expected from our telephone booking. It was on the top floor and the sloping ceiling provided a little difficulty. It was very clean although on the second day it was not cleaned until I phoned reception to remind them. We arrived quite early from the ferry. Our welcome was not as gracious as we would have liked. Indeed the staff seemed unfriendly hardly raising a smile and seemed to view our presence as something of an inconvenience. Understandably our room was not ready and we were allowed to leave our cases. We were told it would not be possible to eat in their dining room that evening, which seemed surprising - in our experience guests (there were 2 of us) can be squeezed in! When we did eat in the hotel restaurant the food was superb and here the service and welcome were excellent. The breakfast room was very quiet, not in a relaxing way, a bit intimidating in fact. Once again the food was very good. We enjoyed our stay but the final morning was a disaster. We asked reception the evening before to book a taxi for the port at 9 o'clock. They assured us this would be done. After breakfast I asked if the taxi was ok and was told none were available. This meant a rather long and stressful walk - with all our luggage to the port. Although we are both in our late 60s we are quite fit and managed ok. The team at reception said they were sorry but offered no real help or alternative solution to the problem. We came away with the impression that English guests, even those who try very hard to converse in French, are rather inconvenient and troublesome and the bottom of the list when needind a little assistance. We would recommend a stay here and hope that we will receive a more friendly welcome next time we stay.

To stay 4 nights in Saint-Malo is serious business, there are hundreds of options to choose from so it's always good to look for advice on the Internet. My wife had booked this place in advance, but you never know what to expect, especially when you travel with children and the four of you need to fit in one single room. To my surprise, the room was really large, it features a terrace, air conditioning, mini-bar, extra pillows, complete bathroom, excellent reading lights and good quality beds. As we arrived I immediately noticed we would face some trouble using the TV: the Philips model in the room was old and the generic remote control would not allow to choose the image source. After a friendly conversation with the lady at the desk the next morning, we had the TV changed for a better, more modern one, so we could enjoy HDMI or USB connections to watch movies. The free Wi-Fi is excellent and stable. The hotel is located on the beach promenade, so the location is good and it's not complicated to park in the surroundings. However if you want to go Intra-muros, you need to walk half an hour (or take the car, it's full of parkings there). The breakfast is very good: you can squeeze some oranges with a juice machine, but you can also have the non-fresh one anytime. Nice fresh French bread, croissants, yogurts, some cheese, eggs... Overall very good experience, will not disappoint you!

We booked an expensive room and breakfast at this hotel and didn't get to use it as they dishonoured our booking before we arrived. We were caught in torrential rain coming across from the other side of the Mayenne area back to St Malo. We were unable to drive fast on dark, very wet and unfamiliar roads with bad visibility all of the way to St Malo. We rang the hotel when we realised that we would be arriving later than expected and let them know that we thought we would arrive about 8.45 pm. They said that reception closed at 8 pm and they would have to ring Booking.com to see what could be done. We said that we would keep them updated as our journey progressed and they said they would ring us back to let us know what the situation with booking in would be. No calls were received and despite numerous calls to the reception made by us during our journey, all messages went to answerphone, even though we were telling them that we were making good time and would be with them by 8.30 pm. This meant that we were driving in the dark on unfamiliar roads not knowing what to expect when we arrived at the hotel and if they would kindly wait for us and this made our journey even worse. On nearing St Malo, and yet after another call to the hotel for an update and answerphone being on again (reception was supposed to close at 8.00 pm not 7.15 pm and thereafter!). We felt that they were clearly ignoring our calls. We finally received a call from booking.com who said that the hotel were not going to accommodate us. This was just after 8.10 pm. We were nearly at the hotel by this time and found out then that we had nowhere to go. Booking.com helped us to find somewhere else by 9 pm and agreed that the hotel's behaviour was very bad. If the hotel says they are going to call back with situation update, then they should. They did not refund any of our payment although booking.com are going to give us 25 euros in compensation. However, the whole evening in St Malo ended up costing us almost 200 euros as we had to pay for the alternative accommodation as well. Nowhere does it say that there is no-one to greet you after 8 pm. It says check in up to 8 pm but does not say anything about no-one being on the premises to help those who may, through no fault of their own, arrive a bit later or have had an accident. Not a good place to book and not a good advertisement for this establishment that they didn't have the courtesy to ring us back and that they had washed their hands of us and clearly were ignoring our calls. We appreciate that staff have to be paid for their work and if someone had been kind enough to have stayed, then we would have paid for their time. Instead we were subjected to a terrifying drive trying to reach the hotel with no assistance whatsoever from them. We hope they enjoyed cleaning our unused room and eating our uneaten breakfast. Not Good At All. Do not have any emergencies as they will not help you!

The hotel is situated a short car ride from the centre but very easy to find. We received a very friendly welcome from Reception staff but having arrived shortly after 2pm we were told that our room would not be ready until after 3.30 but we could leave luggage. This was not a problem so we went off to explore, although when we arrived back at 4.30 the receptionist physically went and checked all was prepared for us. We had booked a triple room and it was a lovely size. The room was very comfortable, with a roomy bathroom. Towels were a good size and complimentary toiletries were all supplied. The air conditioning worked well. Also in the room was a safe and cupboard. There were plenty of electrical sockets and a small desk. Wifi was free and worked really well. The indoor pool was open 7.30am until 10.30pm and towels were also provided. We did not opt for breakfast but was advised it was a cold buffet instead we decided to go out and there was plenty of choice nearby. The hotel is also opposite an Intermarche and small shopping centre, reached by an underpass. We had two nights here and although the hotel was busy we found it quiet and the beds very comfortable. A city tax was payable , we paid for two nights, three adults 7.20€ approx 1.20€ each person, per night. This was our first visit to St Malo and I am sure we will be back. All staff were very friendly and we would not hesitate to return here.

The elevator is nearly literally the size of two average people standing front to back; with luggage, one person at a time but it is an elevator. Front desk was polite, efficient and helpful. Recommended.

We stayed here at the end of our camping holiday to France. It has an ideal location to the ferry port and also saint Malo main town area. There are also shops and restaurants close by. Staff were super friendly and spoke very good English. The place was clean and tidy and our room was massive. The down side was the room was like an oven with no fans or air con. The double bed seemed to be two singles out together but you could feel the crease in the middle and the whole of the bed dipped so you rolled into the middle. A very unfortaable and sticky night. The hotel wasn't cheap and there are other hotels in the area whom provide aircon and buses to the main part of Saint Malo (we should of looked more throughly) We paid the extra for breakfast and we glad we did. Nice coffee amazing home cooked pastrys yogurts cheeses meats, even the kids enjoyed it. Would I recommded this hotel? If the weather wasn't as hot and they provided a fan then yes I would.

We just loved this hotel. It is in a great location and is just what you thought a hotel should look like in bygone days. We were on a tour so I'm not sure parking is great but the hotel sure was as far as we were concerned. The staff was so nice, the food in the restaurant is very good; and the breakfast selection was excellent. The rooms are spacious for European standards and were definitely quiet, clean and comfortable. You are only a stone's throw from other restaurants, a grocery store, and the beach.

We’ve stayed in a view hotels in Saint Malo but for some reason this one had flown under our radar previously. It’s really close to the old city, albeit down a side street. There is secure parking for 15 euros a night which we didn’t mind paying. We had a privilege suite and it was lovely. Spotless clean and very spacious. The bathroom was shower only but a nice big rain shower with separate had shower. Lovely big fluffy towels and good toiletries. The room had a small kitchen area in a cupboard with a microwave, hob and fridge. We only used the fridge but is useful to have. There is a nespresso machine although only three pods given. You can buy more at reception. You could see the sea from the side window in our room and had a chair so you can sit and enjoy the view, or al least one of you can. Receptionist was very friendly. Definitely recommended.

We have been on holiday in the Dordogne for a month. On the way back to catch the Ferry home we booked into this hotel. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed so we were forced to go out hunting for food! A fabulous shopping centre with a huge supermarket was just a couple of minutes walk away. We found a sort of bistro place which was only just ok but beggars can't be choosers! We received a lovely welcome at the hotel from PINO - a very nice chap and who was funny. We booked breakfast and retired to our twin bedded room. Very clean, an OK shower - but again what we have experienced in France - ONE small bottle of water (in a double room) and no tea making facilities - which would have been very welcome, especially with the restaurant being closed. A continental breakfast, very mediocre and we thought definitely not worth the charge. Must go on a positive note about PINO - it was absolutely chucking it down and he let me borrow his umbrella to go to our car - thanks PINO. This is a great hotel to use for the Ferry - about 10 minutes drive away.
