For my first time in San Diego I had high expectations on San Diego hotels. This hotel was the complete opposite. Upon check in I was checked in by the manager Tom. He was nice until he started to hound me about it being a 100% non-smoking hotel. I was perfectly fine with that since me nor my guests were smokers. He repeatedly informed that no smoking of any kind is prohibited. Ok, I understand. For the third time he said “there is a censor that is sensitive and it will pick up any kind of smoke or vaporizer. If you are caught smoking I will kick you out”. I had understood the first time and didn’t need to be talked to like I was a thug of some sort. Well the night ends and I’m outside enjoying the fresh air and what do I see? I lady smoking weed in the parking lot, unloading her car. I guess it was ok for her. Rooms were decent and housekeeping came by every day to check if we needed anything so good job on their part. Everything was fine until Sunday night (my last night) that was the worst. I’m sitting outside with my husband and our neighbor (room 218) pops his head out the door, gave us a mean look and went back inside. He did this several times until he finally came out and asked for the time. He then asks my husband if we were meeting someone. Husband says no. Then he says “if you need me to kick anyone’s a**, I got your back. White man to white man”. We freaked out and immediately went inside. For the next couple of hours we kept hearing obscenity language being yelled, walls being hit, door constantly slamming. It was as if he was fighting with himself. I had a hunch that he was on some sorta drug. This continued on until I got fed up because my elderly mother was starting to get scared. We had never been to San Diego, yet La Mesa and this was all too much for us. I was close to packing up and moving to another hotel. But decided to call the front desk and file a complaint. About 30 minuets later we hear a lot of cursing and items being thrown around and glass breaking. By this time my mom was having a panic attack. The cops showed up and it took 5 police officers to arrest this man. He was resisting arrest and was heavily drugged. Looking through the open door, we could see that he completely trashed the hotel. The bed was in the middle of the room, the dresser pressed up the wall by the door as if he was trying to prevent someone breaking down the door, the lamp and other breakable items were shattered leaving glass everywhere. This was the scariest experience I’ve ever had in my life. It was a sketchy neighborhood and I regret staying at this location. I just want you to know that as frequent guest at Motel 6 throughout the country this was by far the worst motel.

Personally very good, hotel has refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, free parking, breakfast is good, basic coffee, bread, eggs, waffles, milk, juice, oatmeal, fruit and everything, if not particularly picky Yes, these facilities are quite complete, the bed is very large in size, and it is very clean. It is too close to the highway, and it will have some impact if you sleep lightly. We basically went out after breakfast in the morning, and did n’t go back until 7 or 8 o’clock in the evening. For us, it was very affordable and very satisfying. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a picture.

Overall, I'd give the hotel a 6 out of 10 rating. The property was nice, centrally located, clean, and I'd definitely book it again in the future. There were a few things that were inconvenient, such as the laundry room was unavailable, the breakfast room is closed until further notice, and the service was a little slow, but other than those few negatives, our stay was peaceful and enjoyable!

I enjoyed staying here. I book this place regardless of what other reviews had said and was pleasantly surprised. This isn’t a resort style or anything close to that but for a motel, I think this place is great. The staff are very accommodating and kind and the rooms are exactly as pictured. I didn’t find anything wrong with the room or bathroom. Each room comes with a mini fridge and microwave as well as a flat screen TV with cable. The bathrooms were also very clean. Didn’t find anything bad. Water pressure was good too. Parking was also a breeze. If you’re looking for an affordable stay somewhere for a weekend or mini trip, this place is great.

The superior room has a kitchen, and our family travels with children. This kind of hotel is very good, the car directly stops at the door of your room. The rooms are suites, there are living rooms and bedrooms, the area is large and the facilities are relatively new. The first class room is very convenient. Although there are not many types of breakfast, you can have enough to eat ~ a good choice, if you will choose to stay again next time.

What’s there to say about this hotel/motel??? Well it’s is what you pay for. When I arrived late with 7 in my party booking into 3 rooms, we were all extremely dubious. It’s places between 2 car dealerships as far as I can remember with absolutely nothing in walking distance. The outside of the building is highly run down and gives guy a cold sense of dread and wondering if there is actually anyway of getting out of your booking without loosing your money. The front desk staff were lovely and helpful. It did take a little time as they needed to take a copy of every person over 18’s ID. When we went to our rooms, there was strong smell of cleaning fluid which wasn’t the greatest smell but not enough to totally put you off. We left the door open for a while and the smell did get better. One of the rooms stunk of rotten fruit, but the staff quickly and efficiently moved the room. Do not expect the Hilton out of this place because your kit going to get it. What you will get is a comfortable night sleep in a clean room. The shower room was again clean, but for some reason only had 3 towels in a room for four which were not much bigger than hand towels. Would I stay here again, probably not but that’s due to its location and my travel plans, but I’m not put off with ever booking another motel 6.

Layfayette is a great place to stay if you're thinking about staying near North Park for most your trip. When I went, Red Fox bar and restaurant had moved to the other side of the street, and they were not open for business yet. I did go to Gilley's which is sort of a neighborhood bar (no food). And then there is Live Wire which I did not go into. There are lots of nice, little areas, a mile or so away, such as University Heights and Normal Heights . The hotel itself is okay. I got a standard room which did not have a mini-fridge, and the cleaning maid was a little noisy in the morning in the hallway. The front desk let me check in a little bit early and check out a little bit later which I was happy about. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel, but they are a bit pricey. I wanted to go in the pool, but I came during the weekend, and it was pretty crowded. I'm guessing the rooms next to the pool are the best.

Ocean Beach
Pros: ok...so not everything is bad about this hotel. I mean, the views from the ocean view rooms with balcony are amazing. They have a terrace area on each of the 3 floors which makes a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or dinner and watch the ocean and surfers. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. They offer free parking and a refrigerator in the room. Cons: During our 3 day stay, there was a man found stabbed underneath the Ocean Beach Pier, 2 ambulances called for fights/victims of the fights, and a car literally racing around the parking lot at 5:00am trying to chase and kill the other homeless people who they apparently had a problem with while those in the parking lot that normally live there we’re trying to hit the car with garbage cans and/or other objects to either antagonize or deter them..hard to tell. Police were literally out there at least 3-4 times per day (maybe more since we wouldn’t have seen them while out for the day). In room phone did not work. When I tried to dial 911 for the car trying to chase and kill people in the parking lot across the street, I found out there was no dial tone and it didn’t work. I was able to call from my cell phone though:) I called the front desk later to let them know. They never did fix it so maybe it’s something they were already aware of? Partying INSIDE the hotel is HUGE!!! So, if you’re planning to sleep, hope you have a VERY high tolerance to loud noises, yelling and dogs barking. No coffee maker and honestly, early in the morning, I didn’t feel comfortable going out by myself to go find coffee. During the daytime it’s a bit better since there are more people around and the people who live on the beach kind of calm down a bit. It’s sad really. (Also, no microwave) There are probably quite a few people living there on the beach that could use some mental health services. No elevator for luggage. Third floor was fine for me because we only had a carry on and backpack, but if you are older or have a family, that could be a problem. For the price they charge per room per night, I expected a much better experience overall.

I was able to book a room at the zoo hostel the day of my visit, which was very convenient. After I checked in, I was offered a home-cooked meal and the company of lots of new friends from all over the world. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. I stayed in a 4 bed room that had bunk beds, a closet, and a desk. It was clean and I had the room to myself. I will say that you can hear other guests walking around outside your room as the walls are pretty thin, but I got the impression people are usually very considerate about noise late in the night. The next morning there were bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and coffee offered for breakfast. The hostel really felt like it was a big family that lived there. The bathrooms and showers were communal. And the hot water heater was out during my stay, but they were fixing it as I was leaving. When I checked out, the person working the desk gave me advice about what to do for the rest of my trip and helped me research different places around the city. Overall, a great experience!

I loved the room. It was cozy and inviting. The front desk guy was super friendly. I would stay here again. They do require a security deposit of $100 they said it only places a hold on the funds but my account notifies me when funds are paid and it came out. I’ll see after I check out transaction is reversed. There was some water damage on the sink next to the shower from shower spray if the curtain isn’t closed all the way. I wouldn’t have noticed but with the security deposit I wanted it documented.

This hotel has been in business for a long time. The fixed decoration inside is a bit old. Especially the water pressure is very low and the bath is very uncomfortable. But the bedding is good and sleeping is very comfortable. Don't put in that little money if you choose a room with a balcony. It will be very comfortable. There are two types of sea view rooms, one is where you can see the aircraft carrier. Only one side can see the bridge. You can ask the front desk when you get the room. Facing the fishing village, you can see the aircraft carrier. The surrounding environment did not say. It's beautiful and convenient. There are many characteristic restaurants around. Although there is a slight price increase, it is still not expensive. Hello, it is also very close to the supermarket in the city, and it is only 600 meters away. It is a very recommended hotel.

The three waiters at the front desk are very nice and patiently answer your questions. Note that this hostel plus hotel is not 24 hours, you must check in before 11pm. No one at the front desk after 11 o'clock, remember to confirm with the hotel in advance. Breakfast is mainly bread and yoghurt. It ’s no problem to be full. The bathroom is super large. There is a separate kitchen in the dormitory room for many people. The stove is complete, which means less utensils. You can make the seafood you buy. Remember to buy the seasoning yourself. The only problem with the room was the lack of heating. The location is in Little Italy, and buses and trams are nearby.

Just had a fabulous getaway. It has been a rough year with my husband’s passing away. This was my first getaway since that event. Hubby and I had had a wonderful time here on our 34th wedding Anniversary and getaways. Had asked about staying in the last room we stayed in and was told they could see what they could do. I was pleasantly surprised at check in when I got that room. The rooms here are lovely. Due to COVID-19 limitations the restaurant and bar were closed. The onsite cafe is open in the morning. There is also a little quick market by the front desk. The beauty of the hotel’s location are all of the walkable restaurant options. The pool was opened and the hotel had short time outs to clean and disinfect the pool furniture. The hotel had sanitizer throughout the public areas. The rooms had travel disinfectant wipes for anyone wanting to do their own touch up. The staff is friendly. Kudos to Joseph and Sabrina. The hotel location is fabulous. This was a wonderful getaway for me while working through my new normal. Many thanks to the entire Courtyard Marriott family.

It feels like this place was squeezed into its spot. It’s a small property tucked into a hillside just off the main roads in Mission Bay. It’s a bit difficult and tricky to get into. The property has recently (in the past few years) been reconditioned. There’s parking in front and in two underground garages. Since it was not busy, parking wasn’t a problem. If they were full, it could be challenging. The lobby and breakfast area are sparse, but functional. This is one of the most reasonably priced hotels in the Mission Bay area. The room is quite typical. It’s rather large with a King bed, bed tables, a credenza, writing desk and chair, sofa, mini-fridge and microwave. All is crisp and clean. La Quinta has the usual ‘chain’ food. There is a small efficient breakfast area; busy, but not overly crowded. The breakfast was very typical of chain hotels – coffee, OJ, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, breads, cereals, yogurts, apples & bananas.

The hotel is located in the city center. In the gas lamp block, there are many red men and women every day. There are very few Chinese people. Many foreigners should come to vacation. After paying for Ctrip, they will have to pay the resort fee after check-in, which is about 40 dollars a night. But the other us grant, which is relatively resident, has a price/performance ratio and will not stay in this hotel. As a hotel, professionalism is a little lacking. The facilities are just like American hotels. Basically, all of them need to be equipped and there is no hot water bottle.

It is beyond imagination. Breakfast is not delicious, but at least the Chinese can accept a full stomach, and it is included in the room rate. It's very close to the nearby Old World of the Sea World. We are playing uber, but it feels more convenient if we drive by ourselves. The ucsd to go further is actually quite fast, and San Diego is not big. The room rate is very cheap compared to other hotels. The room is large. We absolutely loved our stay at the Catamaran Beach Hotel. It was our 50th wedding anniversay and when we arrived at our room, Edith and Anna (hopefully remebering names correctly) had left chilled bottle of Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. It was so inviting and made us feel very special. The whole staff was so gracious to us and the property was beautiful. From the palm trees, beaches lined with umbrellas for sunbathing, the coy ponds, to the McCaw birds out on display each day, it could not have been better. In fact though it was. After leaving San Diego, my phone was stolen and all my bautiful pictures of our trip were gone. My husband, knowing how disappointed I was called the resort near my 70th birthday in March and explained how my phone was stolen. Steve took the initiative to take not one but about 20 beautiful pictures around the resort area including the gorgeous exotic McCaws and texted them to me. This is definately going the extra mile in customer service. I cannot say enough about what these kind gestures meant to us. Thank you again to the Staff and owners of the Catamaran Beach Hotel for making our 50th Anniversary trip the best anyone could ask for.
