      The hotel was in a great location. I enjoyed my morning walk to the beach with no one around before everyone woke up. It was a short walk to the pier. 3rd Street Promenade was a few blocks behind it. I had a nice ocean view from the room. All the staff was very friendly. The rooftop restaurant offered great views and good food, however it was a little slow. It was too cold to use the pool, but it looked like a great set-up. As far as the room was concerned, it was nice, but it definitely didn't blow me away. You know it's an older hotel.

      I've stayed here when I come to Los Angeles for many years and it's always been very well-run and clean with friendly helpful staff. That said the AC is very uncomfortable. I just stayed in a private room (due to /Covid concerns) for five nights and couldn't turn the AC off. My room was colder than the hallway! The location is the best thing Hi-Los Angeles Santa Monica Hostel has going for it. There are many eateries, shops and other attractions and of course, the fantastic beach and Pier are close by. Lots of nearby bus service to such attractions as The Getty and UCLA, etc. Unfortunately, there is no fast way to get to downtown Los Angeles anymore. The Big Blue Bus has discontinued the Rapid 10 except for early weekday mornings and no weekend service. So your only options are the Rapid 720 (takes over an hour) or the E Line which is not much quicker. The room I had lacked a bedside lamp so I had to go to Target and buy one. I did leave it in the room and hope the management will leave it there for future guests. I also noted and have pointed this out in the past that there are no reading lights in the lounge on the ground floor. The complimentary breakfast has been discontinued due to Covid. There was free coffee and tea but couldn't fruit be also made available? Otherwise I highly recommend this hostel for its great location, cleanliness, consistent maintenance and friendly helpful staff.

      I was with my partner for a couple of nights in Santa Monica. This hotel has an enviable location. The first room I looked at on the 3rd floor, overlooked industrial air vents. The only other option was to upgrade to a top floor room. To be fair, the room itself was nice. A good - partial sea - view. New flooring. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean. So my 2 star rating is really 2.5. I was though, very disappointed that for $650 for 2 nights, we had to walk past mattresses in the corridor outside our room on both nights. The corridor itself had an unpleasant smell about it. During the day, there was drilling going on down the corridor (on a room refurbishment) we hadn’t been informed about. I also found service on the front desk rather abrupt and unwelcoming in all honesty - but I was perhaps hoping for something I’ve valued in many other low budget hotels I’ve experienced worldwide - a welcoming smile and a dedication to help customers feel at home. Compensating for the lack of frills - eg no coffee in the lobby or other facilities - with helpful, kind customer service. And that’s the big problem in Santa Monica: a beautiful spot, sweeping sands, with lively bar and restaurant options - but reasonable budget accommodation is extremely difficult to find. A nearby bakery charges $22 for a loaf of bread, so there’s clearly a lot of money about! And the accommodation prices reflect that. There is sadly though, a lot of homelessness too. The gap between the haves and have nots is marked. The Hotel Carmel is a family run hotel and has location on its side. It is as one of the few hotels that are so-called affordable. But that comes at a price. Would I return? Probably not.

      I can't say enough good things about the staff, the location, and the awesome deal that I found for this hotel on Trip.com! The location is INCREDIBLE-literally steps to the walking path that runs along the ocean. Restaurants/coffee/etc located within walking distance as well. Front desk woman that helped me (she was from my hometown-small world!) was SO sweet. She offered some complimentary beach towels when I mentioned going to the beach. Valet parking is a bit steep so be prepared for that. Valet workers were quick and polite. If I could find a similar deal again, I would stay here in a heartbeat! Oh, one con-walls are pretty thin.

      Beautiful new Hotel in a fabulous location near the wharf, the shopping district and the beach. We stayed three nights with excellent service throughout. We particularly want to mention Tony Denis of the staff who made us feel completely at home and chatted to us and answered all our questions about the area. Nothing was too much trouble. Also ate several times at the hotel restaurant - very reasonably priced, great food from chef Edin, and friendly efficient service from James - Rafael- Norma. We thoroughly recommend this place.

      Great location in Santa Monica, but don’t be deceived by pictures of the beautiful lobby! At check in there was no explanation of available services, what was on the property, or how to get there (eg. bikes, beach, pool, gym, spa, each guest getting x1 free exercise class). You’re handed a map and off you go. Rooms are small, tired and 2/3* quality (I stayed in a premium ocean view room). You can’t hear the ocean at all as the hotel is on a busy highway. Some service was excellent - eg valet, guest services desk, Fig restaurant - but other parts of the service were shocking. A man on the front desk couldn’t tell me how best to get to the beach, a lady on the front desk didn’t know what spa services were available or how to get to the spa. The pool on Saturday was incredibly busy, no free sunbeds & very noisy. The gym was the same. Sunday much better. The Bungalow club on the grounds of the hotel blares music late into the night over the weekend (not sure about during the week) thankfully I was able to change rooms to the other side of the building. The saving grace was a yoga class which was really enjoyable - but I wouldn’t pay over $800 for the privilege. For the price, this hotel really is mediocre. Unfortunately would recommend saving your hard earned cash and going elsewhere.

      We were in and around S. California for 4 days. From Santa Barbara to West Hollywood, West Hollywood to Laguna Beach, and then back to Santa Monica before leaving town. If you love Santa Monica or haven't seen it, this hotel is perfectly positioned to walk around. The decor is simple contemporary and have a vibrant feel to thigs. An experience you would expect from Los Angeles. Of all four nights, our evening here was the most affordable of the four. After watching the sunset, walking the pier and 3rd street promenade, we came back to the hotel and headed up to their PENTHOUSE Restaurant/Lounge on the top floor. Marissa and Peter @ the PENTHOUSE RESTAURNANT made our last night great. Marissa has a tough job being the Director of First Impressions and controlling the experience upstairs. But she was incredible to work with, was open, professional, and understanding in making our time great. Peter was an inspiration once we got a table and we had the best conversation. Amazing personality and We wish nothing but the best to both of them. We have stayed here before, and the rooms and overall hotel are great. Lastly, Magno and Akemi made it easy to help us after forgetting something at the hotel. The whole experience was great. Thanks to everyone mentioned!!!

      This is a great place. Spacious apartments with all amenities. Yes, it is not new but that goes with the style. Excellent location for everything Santa Monica has to offer. It can be noisy and yes that early morning bottle and garbage collection is irritating - but only if you do not sleep through it. Designed in the historic SM style. I loved SM in the 60's/70's -so peaceful and laid back - but now everything we did then is banned or illegal. I hear you even have to pay for car parking now. When I get out I will come back and see if any of the old gang are still hanging out -and who took my Shelby 500.

      This is a great hotel - comfortable and nice rooms that have been recently redecorated, well managed facility, location is about a 10 minute walk to the beach and lots of good shopping nearby. We saw earlier reviews that talked about noise but that was not an issue for us. Our room was facing 5th Ave, not the transit station, and it was quiet. The day before we checked in, we received an email from the hotel GM Melissa Alvarez to clear up some confusion about our room reservation before we arrived. This proactive and personal communication was really appreciated and is just one example of how well managed this facility is. Highly recommend this as a place to stay and will plan to stay here on our next trip.

      It took us a while to drive our to Santa Monica from Hollywood so we decided to get a room last minute, and found the Hampton Inn and Suites. I was a little nervous about the area because there are vagrants on the streets, but the building is only accessible by a hotel key in all entrances so I felt safe. Banjari checked us in and was very nice. Our room was decent, our view were the busses across the street but it's fine. We had two queen beds and spent about $300 for the night. I wish there was a microwave and that the shower water pressure was a little stronger. We ended our night soaking in the jacuzzi on the 2nd floor. It was an indoor/outdoor concept, with a nice fireplace to accommodate almost 12 people. The hotel is next to condos so you'll be able to see into people's homes and vice versa. Otherwise, the hotel is less than a 10 minute walk to Santa Monica Pier, eateries, the Promenade, and shopping! Overall I give the experience and location a 3/5.

      The hotel is in a particularly suitable location in Santa Monica Beach. The distance to the beach is very close to the sunset every day, and there is no particularly noisy hotel near the beach. The hotel is clean and warmly furnished. The shutters and air conditioners are all great designs. The surrounding large and small supermarket restaurants are very convenient, especially the free parking is too convenient. The hotel's own underground parking is convenient and safe. Will definitely stay here next time I visit LA!

      I've stayed in this hotel before when it was excellent and I was therefore very disappointed this time. I was mis sold by both the hotel and Agoda regarding the breakfast for which I'd paid extra. There was coffee and muesli bars only - this is not a breakfast. I understand that currently the situation is difficult but plenty of other hotels are either offering a safe breakfast or being honest about a grab & go offer. When I raised this with the hotel they blamed Agoda taking no responsibility themselves and Agoda make it impossible to contact them via email and it takes hours to get through on the phone. This hotel is far too expensive for the quality of service they currently offer and I therefore cannot recommend them any more.

      The rooms are exactly as described in other reviews...not modern, not much room, not the cleanest, but the location is great. The place has no amenities...no blow dryer, not even a room phone. Which is fine because I was aware of all that when booking this room. I decided, for once, to go the budget route and try to overlook some things since we would just be sleeping in the room. Our stay would have been fine but here we are after a long day of touristy stuff, we come back to our room at almost 1 am just wanting to lie down and go to sleep. But we can't. The cleaning people LOCKED the inner bedroom door in our room and we have been calling and calling the number for the hotel for half an hour to try to get in. No answer, no other numbers to call. I have a toddler and a kid just wanting to lie down. What kind of hotel has a locking door within the room that the cleaning people would lock? Or if they shut the door, why wouldn't they check first before shutting? And most importantly WHY IS THERE NO ONE AT THE FRONT DESK TO LET US IN? The savings was definitely not worth it. It's not even that much cheaper than other hotels on the same strip with amenities and service. We stayed 5 nights and they charged $1978 + $30/night parking I really only saved $200 over the Shore Hotel, which is what I was considering. Lesson learned - don't be a cheapskate.

      The Santa Monica Motel is a very typical US Motel, it's quite basic, but very clean and comfortable, with lovely staff. Laura was excellent with help and advice and the motel was very well priced for the location. We didn't have a car, but it was easy to get Ubers and its a short walk to the station for Hollywood and Universal and also into Santa Monica itself. The beach area is about a 15-20 min walk. Rooms were clean and well equipped with a fridge. Can highly recommend Mel's Diner which was a short walk away and also the walk from Santa Monica to Venice Beach where we found muscle beach and lots of eclectic shops, bars, restaurants and people. Great vibe for a day out.

In both cases, the AC was sufficient cool (barely), the food was quite excellent, the rooms were quiet and the staff (particularly the bell staff coordinating the bicycles) were excellent. This time they didn't have my room ready (at about 5:00!) so they gave me a dinner credit to eat in the lobby...of $100! When I was done, I waited for the check to add the tip...but that was covered too. So my annoyance gave way to enough grdtitude to write this review. If there is one place for improvement, they really need to upgrade their loaner bikes. If I were to stay there again (unlikely because my daughter is moving out of Santa Monica), this time I would give them the $100 credit to do exactly that.

      No one in this hotel has commented on it. I came to be the first hee hee overall concept is very holiday. There is a feeling of going to Cancun. The booked room is a bit small. Next time you can try the one with a large balcony bed. The location is also relatively It ’s convenient to go to Beverly for 15 minutes without traffic jam. It ’s worth commending that house keeping, even in the late afternoon, you can leave the room and clean the room for you, and do n’t take away the tip from the bed. Valet is more expensive for 55 dollars a night. Will go to a more friendly hotel next time

      Beautiful new Hotel in a fabulous location near the wharf, the shopping district and the beach. We stayed three nights with excellent service throughout. We particularly want to mention Tony Denis of the staff who made us feel completely at home and chatted to us and answered all our questions about the area. Nothing was too much trouble. Also ate several times at the hotel restaurant - very reasonably priced, great food from chef Edin, and friendly efficient service from James - Rafael- Norma. We thoroughly recommend this place.

      This property is vintage--I'm guessing 1970's, maybe '80s--but it gets the basics right. Comfortable mattresses, decent size room, clean, easy to operate temperature control, standard shower/tub. Minor annoyances: no dresser drawers for clothing and no easy chair in our room with 2 beds, miniature microwave in breakfast room so you have to wait while other people heat up their breakfast items one at a time. Breakfast selection was OK including a good sausage sandwich, but on two of our 5 days they were out of the sandwich and the only heated egg product was a breakfast burrito which was was absolutely the most awful horrible disgrace of a product imaginable (hint to management: change to something else). The downgrade to 4 points instead of 5 is about location. It is surrounded by a generic neighborhood of low rise commercial buildings and fast food joints. The excellent beach area is too distant to walk. On the other hand, the listless nature of the surroundings made it possible for them to buy enough land to provide free parking, which is a terrific advantage. Easy freeway access. We would come back.

      There seem to be only a few beach side luxury hotels in Santa Monica to choose from. I am thrifty, so I choose the lower cost option and I'm glad I did. The Loew's and other hotels are nearly next to each other, with Loew's being closest to the Santa Monica pier. The location is fantastic! There is a small side road that guests must cross to get to the sand, but it truly is beach side. The views are fantastic from the large, comfortable rooms. The robes and towels are cushy - as they should be! The pool area is great - tight but with wonderful views of the ocean and a much-needed wind screen surrounding it. There is a great on-site espresso bar. Perfect to grab a coffee and watch the morning beach views. The staff, especially the valets, were friendly, professional. One thing I especially noticed was that the hotel did not seem to defer maintenance during COVID. The common areas and our room were clean, maintained: no tippy lamp shades and worn carpet like I've seen so many "luxury" places...All that to say, I would book here again and again. I really enjoyed the hotel and the immediate, very walkable area.

      Let me say first that it is a fine hotel, but for the price, I expected more. I had a nice room with a distant sea view, and the room had a balcony—a nice big bathroom; the only pity of the bathtub with bars for disabled people, which was all rusty. The bed is excellent, as is the large television. Too bad there was no coffee machine in the room. Upon arrival, I could use the complimentary valet service, and check-in was excellent and fast. I was, however, surprised by the Destination Amenities Fee of $33 per day plus tax. Don't make it a separate weird thing; just raise your room rate because you don't do anything extra for that amount except a free one-hour bike ride—what a joke. Anyway, the bar is excellent, as are the people behind the bar, in for a chat and excellent service. Breakfast is somewhat limited, but what they have is good. Too bad there is so little fruit on the menu besides the watermelon and pineapple. Unfortunately no kiwis, blackberries, bananas, or strawberries. Overall, an average hotel, and I still have no idea why I paid that Amenities Fee.

      The hotel was in a great location. I enjoyed my morning walk to the beach with no one around before everyone woke up. It was a short walk to the pier. 3rd Street Promenade was a few blocks behind it. I had a nice ocean view from the room. All the staff was very friendly. The rooftop restaurant offered great views and good food, however it was a little slow. It was too cold to use the pool, but it looked like a great set-up. As far as the room was concerned, it was nice, but it definitely didn't blow me away. You know it's an older hotel.
