This hotel has a very imposing lobby with a lot of beautiful sofas and chairs with very high backs all in gold and red plush. However, if you arrive to the floor with the rooms the old Intourist(as the best hotels was called in the Soviet times) feeling is very strong. It starts with the carpet looks like a snake that winds from one wall of the corridor to the other and back. The key looks like something you use for your locker at baths. The rooms are large with a living room with a sofa and a couple of armchairs and a glass cupboard with teacups and a water cooker. However, the furniture is at least from the 1980is and is as nice and clean that could be expected with this age. The only thing in the room that is up to date is a large bookshelf with a TV-set, otherwise it looks as the time had stood still almost 40 years. The view from the 9th floor that we had our room could had been nice if the city had been more to look at. The bathroom was actually renovated but it is so small that you almost can’t squeeze into it. The best part of the room is the bedroom, that had a decent double bed, a rare thing in Russia, that look nice and new. The only thing is that the quilt is very small, so it is hard to cover two persons. However, the worst with this hotel is the lack of competence and service minded of the staff, here is the attitudes from the Soviet time still prevailing. So, pick another hotel.

After more than 15 days of travelling and trekking in Altai and sleeping in tents and domiki, a group of 12 spent the last night in this quiet, clean, nicely equipped hostel. Rooms are with 2, 3, 6 beds, no windows (not important but worth mentioning), lock-up cabinets, each room has a sink and a mirror, each bed with it's own light and electrical socket. There are 2 toilets and 1 shower. Kitchen is also well equipped. Worth visiting!

So we had been hiking in Altai for a week and came to Barnaul after 12 hours in small cars on bumpy roads. I had booked a place to me and my girlfriend with 1) a nice room, 2) a good restaurant with nice breakfast and 3) a spa with a sauna. When we arrived everything was dark. The staff told me that the restaurant was out of order, except for breakfast, and that the spa was closed. The next morning they could not even serve the breakfast and told me that "tomorrow it will work again". So I had paid for a lot of things but the only thing I got was a room. And to be fair it was nice. The only good experience I had from this place is that the manager didn't hesitate to give me back the money I had paid for everything when I told him that we're changing hotels. So don't stay at this place if you expect what they write in the booking.
