My wife, 2 small children and I arrived after a very long trip from Canada. Upon arrival, my 5 month and 2 year old children were welcomed completely and the crazy steep approach road gave us a good challenge on our bicycles! I recognize that the standards for hostels in Europe are higher than in North America but this hostel is simply incredible! located in one of the older castles around, the setting, building, rooms and location are simply perfection. Keven, the Manager, and the night lady who checked us in were friendly, welcoming and very informative. I went for a short walk at sunset with my 2 year old and after 5 minutes realized the hostel had probably the best view in the city and Passau is so beautiful. Food was plentiful and the kitchen staff were friendly. Mattresses were comfertable, walls were thick and soundproof (which was great because our child was having a hard time getting used to the new time zone) Seriously, I can't even imagine how someone could give this hostel anything less than 5 stars. If you've done any travel in hostels you will realize this for the incredible experience it is: highly HIGHLY recommended!

The hotel is very centrally located and very modern and stylish furnished. The rooms are clean and comfortable, we stayed in a Standard room with street view and I was a bit afraid that the room might be very small, but it was very nice and definitely large enough for our 1-night-stay. The building itself is a bit elder, and there is no lift which might be a bit exhausting when you are staying in the 2nd floor and have to get your luggage up and down... breakfast is served on the ground floor and they offer a very good a la carte breakfast, so you can choose between different options like vegetarian, healthy, sweet or salty and coffee is served unlimited. Besides the fact that the mattrasses are extremely hard and not very comfortable, we really liked the style and furniture of the hotel a lot. But what I must say is that I have to agree with other ratings here that it shouldn't really be called "hotel" - "bed and breakfast" would be a better name for it, since they only offer very limited service; reception for example is only available in the morning and afternoon, but not in the evening or during lunch time. Also the outside sign says "Pension" (=guesthouse) and not hotel, so this might be a bit confusing... another thing why we decided to only give 3 points was the staff and their behaviour: first of all you do not really recognize who of them is a staff member and who is a guest: they do not have a uniform or at least a t-shirt or a name tag or whatsoever, neither in the breakfast area, nor the cleaning or reception staff... and unfortunately none of them was ever smiling or greeting properly, and this is something we do at least expect when staying in a small hotel: friendliness, personalized service and the feeling of being welcome! So all in all a nice experience but not lived up to our expectations of a Boutique hotel unfortunately.

We stayed here only one night; wish we’d had time to stay longer. The hotel is on the Donau and in the old part of town. It is comfortable and modern while retaining a stately ambiance. There’s a spacious library / reading room for guests. Staff are very professional. Breakfast is a feast. We stayed in a river view 2-storey suite that had its own entrance off road and a garage beneath. Access was via a flight of stairs. On the main floor there was a living room with a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, a toilet, and a small verandah. The bedroom was upstairs, with toilet/sink/shower. The fittings and decoration and furniture were all high quality and evidently chosen with care. The overall effect was very impressive. The hotel has a bar but no restaurant; there is a good Bavarian restaurant less than 60 seconds walk away, and a sort of hip place just next to it.

I find it very difficult to write about this hotel. We arrived in the pouring rain at eight in the evening and as there was no reception had to find the way of getting in then struggle with a complicated locking system to get into the room. This was only after negotiating a steep and uneven staircase with heavy suitcases. Being partially disabled this was a nightmare. Then the room sizable but with the bed badly situated beneath the sloping ceiling beams (ten days later I still have the scars on my head!) so impossible to sit up in bed. Light from a small skylight but the bathroom window, only partly covered by a small piece of cloth gave no privacy so we jury-rigged a towel to give us privacy from the pianist in the flat on the other side of the road. However the breakfast was excellent with good choice of quality items. Staff were unfailingly helpful and the location in the middle of the old city is perfect. On our departure they helped with our luggage. A lovely hotel but not for the elderly/handicapped or those more used to run of the mill establishments

If you are planning a trip to Passau on the beautiful Danube River, try the Hotel Konig. This is a truly gorgeous hotel, right on the river. Our room is beautifully appointed, very comfortable bed, mini bar, nice sparkling clean bathroom. Check in was 2 p.m. So in the meantime we took a two hour boat trip on the Swarovski Kristallschiff, What a beautiful boat, all done up in Swarovski crystal chandeliers, an incredible crystal staircase, crystals everywhere you look. The cruise booking center is right across the road from the hotel. We received a 7% discount for the cruise from Hotel Konig. But getting back to the hotel, the parking garage is right on the street next to the hotel. The lady at check-in took us down and showed us where you park. You must have a reservation to park your vehicle as space is limited and there is a charge for parking. The breakfast buffet is included in the room rate. Walking out the front of the door takes you to the river and little shops and restaurants all along the way. If you take the elevator in the hotel to the second floor, it lets you out into Old Town Passau with lots more shops. This is a great hotel in a great location at a good price. I highly recommend it!

The Hotel is coveniently sited with the Reception Floor at street level in the centre of Passau, and the Rear Entrance 2 floors lower giving direct access to the Danube river. There is a lift and stairs to all floors, with a small roof terrace overlooking the Danube Our room on the 4th Floor overlooked the Danuble. Our room was spacious with Double Bed, settee which converted into a bed, desk and chair , Television, minibar, tray of assoted snacks to buy and most unusually a Kettle and tea making facilities. The bathroom was reasonably sized fully tiled with underfloor heating, there was a bath and overhead shower. A nice touch was different coloured towels on the bathroom radiator which stopped that "which (white) towel have you used " discussion. There was also an ample selection of toiletries including toothbrush and razor! Large wardrobes completed the deal. The hotel because of its locationin the centre of town, does not serve Dinners, but the buffet breakfast is excelllent, large selection, with everything fresh and relenished regularily by the two very efficient and helpful Staff. A nice touch is jugs of fresh coffee or pots of tea are served It was obvious that the whole hotel had been carefully desisugned and the theme of satin wood and teak on doors was carried through on wardrobes, Reception desk and even the Breakfast food Island Ther was also a small but comfortable bar, and also sauna facilities All in all I would recommend this hotel

The location is perfect - not so far from the centre and close to the highway. they offer paid indoor parking. That was good solution for us instead of looking for parking space outside. The hotel staff as more then friendly with us. We were in double room... so confortable, quiet and clean. The Wi-Fi conection wasn't so good, but it wasn't big deal. The hotel has wellness area. We didn't have time to try it. Probably we will visit it next time.

The staff was extremely helpful. We had a good breakfast. The rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was just lovely. Not to mention which you are in an extremely beautiful town. While I am sure there are many fine hotels in this area, I would recommend the Hotel Spitzberg for anyone on a budget who wants to be treated well.

Stayed here whilst travelling from the UK via Belgium, Germany, Austria and France. Travelled part way in an old Classic Car and then with friends in their motorhome. Booked prior to visiting Passau and the owners very accommodating with friends motorhome. Room with ensuite, clean and ample for our over night stay although my husband did struggle with the numbers of stairs. Both breakfast and evening meal very good value for money. Location is very remote and we did end up in a farmers drive but he soon pointed us in the right direction - assume he was use to the error. The hotel appears to have been extended and improved but they could benefit from additional help, especially the external groundworks, as it covers a large area. Lovely quiet location next to the river and ideal for walkers.

This hotel was booked for us the start point of our cycling tour from Passau to Vienna. The hotel is around 10 minutes by taxi from the train station and so we took a tax, Cost 10 Euros. The hotel is on the main road which makes it easy to get to and the noise was not a problem. We had to leave a window open and more on this later. as Passau is not Frankfurt! In the evening we walked into town which was around 30 minutes and an easy downhill walk. We took a taxi back. Check-in was a little chaotic as there seemed to be a problem with their computer system. They did have our reservation (there was a printed version from the cycling tour company with a welcome pack) and so to avoid delay they handed us the key and told us to check back later in the day. The hotel rooms were tired and rather reminded me of something that you would find in a Novotel of the 1980s. There was no air conditioning and with the temperature at 35 degrees meant we had to keep the window open as noted above. The room did contain a fan which was a lifesaver. Bed comfort and room cleanliness were good and sleep quality, despite the heat, was okay. The bathroom was clean and shower only with good pressure so all good there. The breakfast area was very much a throwback to when we were listing to 80s pop hits from Wham and Madonna and we shared it with an over 70s coach trip from the Netherlands. Breakfast was buffet style and was better than I was expecting. For those of you who are staying there as part of a biking tour, there is apparently an underground bike area but we were not told of this (I think everyone was pre-occupied with the IT issues they had) and so left them locked up outside. They were there in the morning and so no harm done. If I had a choice, I would not stay here again but as part of a package...well okay if I must.
