I have lived for 9 days and I have a good night's sleep. Of course, I am not a picky person. There is a running water design in the yard, probably from 7 am to dark, the sound feels like a river, the first day is a little uncomfortable. The room type is a suite in two rooms. The doors open from the corridor are the doors of the two rooms. Therefore, the sound insulation is almost the same. Occasionally, the voice of the neighbors can be heard. Two days in the morning, the sound of another door is awakened. . I saw a small strong on the balcony. I thought about it, I used paper to throw it. Good location, climbing to the cathedral, there are few tourists, you can quietly experience the culture of Christ, down the mountain to the sea stall; the other side is the civic center, there are art galleries and museums. There is a variety of cuisine throughout the street, including a lady's favorite chocolate drink shop.

First time at a Crystalbrook hotel. It was a pleasant experience. Rooms are really spacious with nice modern decor/retro design touches. Bed was ok, pretty firm. Room entry is a bit of a wasted space around closet area, probably could have been better utilised. Bathroom was well equipped, probably could have been bigger based on wasted entry area. The hotel has a rather sombre vibe so a bit vanilla in that respect. Restaurant not open Sunday eves so couldn't try. Bar on top level has pretty good views but a bit disjointed between nice bar and seating area in a seperate room. Didn't get a buzzy feeling there. Location was ok, bit out of central CBD but close enough to Darby St eateries so had my Sunday dinner there. Opposite Civic Park and close to waterfront. Loved the ”no plastic bottle” and refillable water stations for an eco friendly experience.

This hotel, I decided not to live. Because in the first day of Manly I set up a family hostel, the family could not live. So I went straight to Newcastle's Oriental Hotel (because it looks almost the same). So the comment will give you a medium.

As per the other reviews we encountered the same problems with booking. As we were moving from Brisbane to Melbourne we only booked accommodation on the road as we felt like stopping, if I’d read these other reviews before booking I may have reconsidered! Yes these apartments are sublet so there’s no reception on site so checking in or any problems have to be phoned to their hotline. But once we got all the checkin details we needed (3 phone calls later) we checked in and got settled. The apartment was lovely, spacious and self contained so we could get a load of washing done and could’ve cooked food if we wanted. So as far as the room itself we were more than satisfied for the price. But they do need to either sort out these obvious problems or clearly advertise to customers exactly what they are getting. I also agree with the complaints about the car parking, it involved more than one phone call to book, pay for, get the access code and drive around to find a non resident car space. It’s a shame the process is such a headache as the apartments are nice. I would stay here again but be warned of the muck around that comes with it.

Great location, easy remote operated check in service. Communal area presented well. The lift worked to go upwards from ground to level one, but it wasn’t functioning when we left (downwards function from level one to ground). Room 1 - upon entering had a horrible dirty shoe smell. It has a major shower drainage problem where the fall of the shower floor runs into the room, possibly over time water on the carpet is causing the constant smell. The hand basin drain was also blocked. The renovation was modern, however the wear and tear is now evident. Could do with a bond clean and some maintenance. The ratings could improve easily if maintenance and cleanliness were addressed because the service and location are great.

I’ve stayed here before, but my most recent stay was underwhelming. After I checked in, I got the luggage from my car. I had quite a lot with me and I was loading it on a trolley (I was clearly struggling) and 2 staff members stood there talking and just watched me! After I loaded everything on and was pushing it inside only then did one of them reluctantly ask ‘are you right with that?’. The very long corridors were inconvenient to push so much luggage with no assistance. While my room was clean and tidy, I noticed when I got into bed that the sheets smelt as though they had been left in the washing machine too long and had that odour to them. I didn’t bother complaining as when I checked in I was told they have me in a disability room because ‘that’s all we had left to put you’. The smell was so strong that when I got home I realised my pyjamas had the same odour to them. I got room service one night and the food was awful. Staff member who checked me out was lovely, and this time, a staff member immediately offered (politely) to help get my luggage in my car. I would give this hotel another chance purely because other times everything has been fine, but this experience was not so great!

YHA Newcastle Beach

Newcastle
|0.32km from city center
For a hostel, the Newcastle Beach YHA is a great value for money. Location is perfect, 5 minute walk to the beach, right off the light rail from the train station and overall quiet (minus weekends). The vintage home has great curb appeal and is in overall good condition inside. The stained glass windows, deep couches and foyer/staircase are very comfortable to relax in. Kitchen is a little tired but overall in good condition and well stocked. Laundry worked well too and powder is available for sale. The bedrooms can get really warm and stuffy, even with the window open. And with no air con, summer would be hot here. Good storage with outlets in the rooms but the bed squeak and move around a lot of both bunks are filled. WiFi works well in the common space too. And the hostel has activities during the week, like a free sausage sizzle, which was fun. My only quibble was how well the WHV kids living there cleaned the place. Watching a few of them while eating or cooking, it seemed like a quick touch and go job. Kitchen doesn’t seem to be cleaned out regularly as I could smell rotting food regularly in the fridge. Would recommend it and would stay again, but if you want quieter atmosphere, don’t go on weekends.

This apartment is cheap, the sanitary conditions are very good, there are two balconies, the most important thing is to make your own cooking utensils complete, washing machine dryers and even washing clothes are prepared, the key is the geographical location is unique in the central area, the supermarket eats The slot machine arrived in a few minutes, and the friends were very happy. Although they had a little trouble before the check-in, they were arranged very quickly. I plan to go there for two days at the end of this month. I just remind everyone to make a reservation online in China. After the order is confirmed. Be sure to check the password information of the room. There is no key in this apartment. All the doors are opened with secrets. Be sure to remember.

I want to start by saying that Emily & Ryan at the front desk, are the saving graces for this place. This is the first of many trips we have coming up to this area and we won’t be staying here again. Initially, Emily found us a room at the last minute which was accommodating for our situation. The room smelt like fish and the television didn’t work. Emily came straight up and fixed it. Next, the amenities in our bathroom were empty. Emily again, fixed this. After two days, the room wasn’t smelling any better so Ryan was able to show us to another room which was great. The rooms are stale and need an upgrade, beds are uncomfortable. Fridge in room is ridiculously small. The only good thing to review here, are your front desk staff.

This small, main road motel is perfectly located on the lake with magnificent views. The rooms are comfortable, clean & freshly painted, including a fridge and microwave. The host was welcoming and nothing beats the sunset view on the lawn. A great place for the price. I would stay again as the lake view rooms dont seem to have too much traffic noise and hopefully when the renovated restaurant re-opens there is little need to venture any further.

The proprietress is also Chinese, but our car does not have a permit, can not drive away, thinking about going to the graduation ceremony that day, immediately after the end, go back and finish the card and drive away, but the boss’s call is to let us drive away, say Today, the room is full, and our graduation ceremony is about to begin. If we don’t go back, we will call the police and drag the car away. We rushed back to park the road. At the end of the graduation ceremony, when she returned to drive, she stopped a car in her yard. Although the boss wife is helping us, it is also a duty to help us. But I think that since everyone from abroad is from a country, I should be able to help you. I still can’t forget the graduation ceremony and my family’s urgency. The mood at the time. Later, we moved the car to a ghost house. The hostess of his family asked us what happened. I took the initiative to help us look at the car and let us safely park the car at his door. It’s not like how to spray this hotel, and I will still give praise. I just want to tell everyone who is overseas, if the Chinese can help, I will help you. As long as the people are united, no one can bully the Chinese.

Grand Hotel

Newcastle

We have stayed at the Grand many times and have always loved it for its history, architectural style, and cleanliness. We were greatly disappointed by our last stay, to find the attention to detail was lacking and the room (Grand room 7) was in a state of disrepair. The bathroom had broken towel rails and moldy tiles, missing stonework from the fireplace, random scruffy miss-matched furniture, a grubby ironing board in the poorly built wardrobe, the pillows were thin and lumpy. The accommodation is not at the high standard it once was and it's sad to see the once smart and stylish decor has deteriorated. Also, be aware, the website advertises on-street parking, however, this part of town is very busy and it's tricky to find a park in the street or the parking station across the road, which charges $40 for 1 overnight stay. This hotel is in an excellent location and is close to the beach, cafes, and CBD. There are lovely views of the Cathedral from the corner balcony and you can hear the sea at night. I hope the hotel management will take the time to repair the damage in the rooms and give the place a good scrub and replace some of the out-of-place furniture. We love this place but would hesitate to stay again based on our last experience. Currently, it does not meet the standard expected for 4-star accommodation, and at $179 per night, it was very disappointing.

Opposite is the main beach. It is still very convenient to play the beach and the sea. The restaurant has a 180-degree floor view. You can enjoy it at breakfast. It is really good. There is a free low parking garage. It is two standard rooms connected together, which is really good. The bed in the standard room is very large, which is very convenient for family use. It ’s important to say that the hotel ’s restaurant service is really good. When I arrived at the hotel, one of my noodle cooker lines fell into the previous hotel and I went back to get it for another 2-3 hours. Later, I negotiated with the restaurant. Since the restaurant ca n’t cook takeaway food, the manager helped me think of a way to soak the noodles in hot water and then turn them in the microwave. Finally, Erbao had noodles and was happy. Wonderful. There are some shopping malls near the hotel, you need to go a little earlier, and there are many Chinese shops, dim sum shops and Japanese food shops, as well as spicy spicy pots. The closer you are to Sydney, the more Chinese food features appear. The ice cream shop opposite the hotel must go, go early in the evening, usually Australian shops open late in the morning, especially on weekends, and close at 8-9 in the evening.

We booked this property as it was suggested by our team manager for a weekend competition held in Newcastle. None from our team has stayed here before so we were all going in blindly and we only had reviews from different sites to go on with. Believe me that reviews were overflowing with more negatives than positives. That got us worried from the start as we have young teens travelling with us. With this said, I can only speak from my Family’s experience. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment on the first floor that has an outdoor balcony with an outdoor setting enough to sit 4. The apartment allocated to us we were very pleased. Floorboards in main living space and bedrooms. There were 2 separate showers and toilets which was handy for a family of 4. The apartment has a washing machine and dryer and laundry detergent sachets provided. Kitchen is equipped with necessities and all what we required for a long weekend stay. Sachets of Coffee, tea, small individual milk and biscuits were provided too. The bedrooms were clean and we were provided with cotton sheets, there were a few woollen blankets in linen cupboard provided for cooler nights, but since my children cannot use these blankets I had to make a special request for a proper quilt and cotton covers and it was attended to straight away. There are selections of pillows provided so do check the wardrobes/ cupboards. Huge 3 TV’s in Living Room and both bedrooms. Netflix, Stan etc included. Wi-fi included. The decor is very simple but pleasing to the eye. Loading Zone in front of building. I had no problem with the booking and it was straightforward and the staffs for after hours calls are quick to reply. The cafe on ground floor “Mockingbird” serves good food and ranked #3 / 20 in best coffee in Newcastle city which I gave it a thumbs up for coffee drinker like myself. CONS: - Parking isn’t in same building and cost $20/ ngt. Building to park is 2-3 mins walk. We didn’t book any parking and we parked on the streets which has lots of lights and side streets has CCTV. - Leather Couch in living room has a rip, property owner can address this and is easy fix. But comfy couch to sit on. - No reception in building. - Self Check -In Codes use on lifts and another to apartments. Annoying at first but we looked at it positively “ keeping us safe” . So keep those codes handy with you all the time. Overall, I can recommend this property and we won’t mind staying here again.
