We chose Villa San Lucchese as way to experience the Tuscan area and it did not disappoint! The staff was accommodating, the facilities very adequate in keeping with a Tuscan villa, and the dinner menu was excellent! We were there without a vehicle, but the front desk staff accommodated us by picking us up at the train station or arranging for a taxi to do so. It is a bit remote and required a 20 minute walk downhill to get to the train station, but the path winds through a wooded park before emerging into the town streets. We spent one of our four days walking through the nearby vineyards and lounging at the pool before being picked up by Vittorio for a wine and vineyard tour. The close-by Basilica added to the character of the area. Florence was a day-trip (and one hour train ride away). We spent another day in Siena, a one-hour easy bus ride away. The guests at the Villa while we were there were from the UK, Germany, France, the US and Taiwan, making for quite the international experience. Overall, a fantastic experience!

We were travelling by train, principally, but also by bus at times through Tuscany (mainly). We had spent time in Florence, of course, then took the train to Assisi. From our one night and 2 days there we went to Arezzo. Two nights there and we receive a phone call. Our hotel in Poggibonsi can't put us up. Why? No real satisfactory response so we have to think of something quick. We take a taxi out into the countryside after disembarking from the train, where we are miles from a railway station. We are in Poggibonsi because it is central by train and bus to several Tuscany towns and cities which themselves don't have a railway station. So the 5 nights here now seem in doubt. We were thinking of the Albergo Italia ages ago when we were booking but, of course, there is no lift, and at the time of booking, my Mrs has just had a knee replacement operation. Well we have no choice now do we? And to be honest her knee is so much better these days. To cut a long story short. These blokes welcomed us with open arms after we were given a lift back into town. They gave us a room that was a bit small and high up for 2 nights but soon found us a better one which was much bigger and better. It really made the holiday because we then bussed to San Gimignano on the 2nd day then Siena on the 3rd before taking the train to Certaldo on the 4th. All marvellous places to visit. On the Sunday, we spent all day visiting the sites in Poggibonsi itself before leaving the hotel. The breakfast was adequate, the prices excellent value and the staff all good people, including the cleaners. Right opposite the railway station and bus terminus too.

I ventured to Hotel Alcide in Poggibonsi for a business trip in September 2019 for two weeks. And what a stay it turned out to be! Situated in the Val d'Elsa area amongst the Tuscan hills, Hotel Alcide is the perfect place to stay to do some exploring (when one isn't working). Poggibonsi is easily accessible by train from Florence and has fantastic bus links to the hillside towns of San Gimignano and Siena. Don't rely on being able to get a taxi, though, from Poggibonsi station to get to the actual hotel; this quintessential Italian village runs on its own clock most of the time. Instead, contact the hotel beforehand and they will be only too happy to give you the walking directions (about 10-15 minutes). The staff at both Hotel Alcide and the Ristorante Alcide (delicious fish!) are simply outstanding - always smiling, always willing to help, always ready with a suggestion of what to do, where to go and what to eat. The staff truly made my two-week stay at this family-run hotel thoroughly enjoyable, and I just know that I will go back. The room was a generous size, as was the bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy, there was free wi-fi, and the bed was oh so comfy. It was warm weather while I was there and I'm pleased to say the air-conditioning worked just as it should. With a glorious view looking out to the hills, it was a pleasure to open my curtains each morning. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of pastries, eggs, cold meats, fruit, etc - a perfect way to start the day. Overall, great value for money! As an aside, the meeting room was perfect for what we needed, with coffee served as well as some Italian fayre in the way of cakes, pastries and other goodies. The air-con in there worked too! Vogt, Luigi, Simone, Lapo, Roberta, Fernanda and Emanuela - it was sad to leave you all because you truly made Alcide like a home away from home.

Stunning views and absolute lovely view from the poolside. Close to Siena and Firenze, not far from the seaside and Pisa. Other than that, very average hotel. Service in the bar/restaurant not the best, quality of the dinner served not worth the 120€ that we've had to pay for a standard 3 course menu. Portions very small and flavorless. Breakfast very good, with fresh products from their own garden. Only thing I think could be improved would be that they would serve fresh juice with the breakfast. It would make the "fresh and local" experience complete. Room hasn't been cleaned for 3 days since we've arrived, after mentioning this to the reception, the room was supposed to be clean but still dust to be found everywhere, including dirty fingers on the windows. Unfortunately there wasn't really a proper solution for this issue. Reception said in their opinion the room was cleaned properly. Bed is good enough for a few nights, pillows comfortable. Air conditioner is probably too small for the size of the room, room temperature very high (28 degrees) and even after 3 days of "cooling" temperature didn't go below 27 degrees. Bathroom has a proper size, shower was good enough. After showering bathroom floor totally wet because of a leak somewhere. Water of the shower was warm, no possibility for hot or cold water, just warm. Overall, we don't think it's worth the 120€ a night we've paid for a 4 star hotel.

We pulled off the highway at night by chance and caught the sign, driving up we weren't sure we were even in the right direction as the road got a little smaller but ended up at a beautiful place, Had dinner there the food was fantastic and the room was so comfortable could have stayed there the entire trip, when we got up the next morning it was hard to leave , so peaceful and the view was picture perfect, if you are in this vicinity at all plan on making your stay a few nights, well worth it, And tell that sweet beautiful girl at the front desk hi from us ,she was so nice and helpful, definitely an asset to the Villa

In our hectic, stressful lives we need an oasis to recharge the batteries, but this is notoriously difficult to source. Well, sometimes one comes across the perfect place…… Last year we had four days to find a wedding venue for my daughter. Can you imagine the stress, charging from one end of Tuscany to the other and back and forth? Exhausting both physically and definitely draining emotionally. However we had booked to stay in …Tenuta il Tresto. What an oasis that proved to be! It is utterly delightful. The setting is idyllic, the accommodation .. beautifully understated elegance, comfortable and spotless!!! The abundant breakfasts, delicious, locally sourced food served with a smile, nothing seemed to be an effort… Italian coffee? Eggs? Ah! You like tomatoes! The small gestures that make you feel so welcome. Did I forget to mention the wine ?!!!! Happily we returned this year, for a stress free few days, prior to the event. We were a bigger party, spanning three generations, family from both sides getting to know each other better. Again our welcome and stay were just wonderful. Swimming in the pool, picnicking al fresco, walking in the beautiful countryside and venturing further afield exploring this beautiful part of Italy. A wonderful find to be shared with like minded travellers.
