I had the privilege to stay at the Commander every other week for 8 months due to business. This property is a treasure in Cambridge. Exclusively located right on Cambridge common, this hotel is a 10-20 minute walk from Museums, Harvard Campus, Harvard square and dozens of restaurants and shopping. The second you arrive the character is apparent, from the front visage modeled after Mount Vernon, a bronze statue of the Commander himself, and stunning ornate ceilings in the lobby. The rooms are well appointed and full of character. Built in the 1920's, it was originally an apartment building and hotel rooms, which does leave each room to be slightly different. You never know quite what you're going to get in the rooms. But you can count on comfortable beds, great closet space, and stellar service. The front desk is kind and always go above and beyond, Kaitlyn, Jose, and the rest of the front desk crew are always ready to greet you with a smile. Johannes at the concierge desk is a delight and ready to help. The hotel is connected to a nice restaurant, Nubar, which also serves as the breakfast buffet location. Breakfast is not free, but if you have Marriott Titanium and above you do get vouchers. The wait staff in the morning are wonderful, although I can't recall everyone's name, I had a great pleasure getting to know Claudia. The Commander truly became a home away from home. I hope to visit again soon!

Breakfast costs $ 20, but the hotel is connected to Starbucks, so you can choose Star Dad. Or Dunkin Donuts on the side, which is also a very earthy breakfast chain (similar to Bobby steamed buns or Shaxian, but the quality is stable). Location is relatively close to the city, 10 minutes walk from the Red Line subway, there is a fresh pond opposite, the environment is good. The hotel should be pet friendly, with guests and dogs. A little bit of trouble is that after Ctrip booked the hotel, the hotel charge was more than 100 yuan more than the room rate, and the pre-authorization deposit of 50 yuan was checked on the spot and paid separately. This is far worse than the Ctrip customer service has not yet received a response and solution. In addition, most of the waiters in the hotel are black, and the service awareness is slightly poor. One day I came back once in the afternoon, and I used to put the tip for the next day on the bedside table, but I came back at night and found that it was gone ...

Very good location and friendly staff. Bed is average comfort. Room was clean. This is where the positives end. There is very little protection from sound. I was up all night both nights hearing doors slam inside (particularly the very heavy door to the stairs that was near my room) and vehicles outside. Pack very good earplugs if you come. The hotel has zero food service. No breakfast, no bar, nowhere (bar, etc) to unwind after a day of work. WiFi was spotty and cut out on me during video calls, so don't plan on working from the room. Overall, I would have preferred to have a worse location but a nicer hotel. Boston is pretty small and Harvard Sq is only a 15 minute Uber to almost anywhere in the city. The good location here wasn't worth the negatives.

Room was quiet, well-sized and well decorated. Can’t beat the location if you need to be in Harvard Square. Restaurants and bars in the hotel are nice, Staff are friendly, Housekeeping is good, Downsides: mattress was completely worn out and I could only sleep on one side of the bed. Also they checked another guest into my room, which I discovered when she unlocked the door and walked in at 11 pm (to her surprise). For a super-premium hotel, both of these were unacceptable. Next time I will just save $200-$400 per night and stay at the many two-star hotels in the area.

Generally enjoyed our stay here, although the place has a few quirks. The location is great (quiet neighborhood, 5 min walk to the T and Davis Sq) and we enjoyed the outdoor seating areas. Breakfast was fairly basic but did the job. We hardly saw the hosts, and it didn't seem to be the kind of B&B where you receive a personal welcome or make lots of small talk with the owners. It seemed to be easier to reach them via email (which was answered promptly) than to find them in person. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed being able to open the windows for fresh air. Internet worked well and we enjoyed meeting the resident cat. Our room was fairly tidy but despite the b&b being described as ”ultra-clean” we found long hairs on the shower wall and a dried up cookie on the carpet by the nightstand. Not deal breakers, but the room could've been cleaned better. The website could also be updated to show more current images and room descriptions. For example. there was no ”antique secretary” in our room, just a basic desk, and less floor space than depicted in the photos due to other furniture now being in the room (larger chair, fridge, etc). The closet now had a curtain rather than a door. We heard quite a bit of noise from the neighboring room (talking, coughing, child crying) but guess that is to be expected in a house. Overall, a convenient and comfortable place to stay, but could use a little freshening up and may not be to everyone's taste.

As a result, we are looking for parking lots everywhere. It is very expensive and the parking fee is very expensive. I went to live in the parking lot and said that it was not good to park near Harvard. In the end, I was looking for a parking lot everywhere. It took time and money, and the hotel price was not high.

The hotel is very comfortable, clean and quiet! The blue carpet, the interior color is gentle, and the water temperature is not suitable. The little brother came to help adjust it. He told me that this is the second most comfortable hotel in Boston, and I believe it! The night shift service at the front desk is called Sam. He is very nice. He will help you with any questions. If you have a language barrier, he will find a way to use a computer to translate. Will book again next time!

A very good experience. I have lived here many times in Kendall Square or stayed here for the first time. The little red house didn’t even know it was a hotel. Just walk 50 meters on the red line of kendall, opposite the Marriott Hotel and MIT's Coop souvenir/bookstore. There is a sketch less than a kilometer on the three streets (one of the best Chinese restaurants in Boston, and the small fried meat is very good). Fuji, Tatte Cafe, opposite Clover, the hotel's own buffet breakfast is great, no one cares how long you want to sit, free coffee, tea, lemonade all day in the lobby, apple or banana or chocolate on the front desk odd. The front desk is very Nice, the room is very beautiful and spacious, experienced the painful experience of New York airbnb. It is a paradise here, the toiletries are also very good, the room also has coffee and tea, two bottles of mineral water. The price is cheap in the off-season in winter. It is a perfect experience.

Did I spend roughly $50 (pre-tax & tip) on a lobster roll and a glass of prosecco? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. I'm going to touch on other aspects of my stay, but I can't believe how many fresh tasting, big, succulent chunks of lobster were in this hotel lounge lobster roll. It's cold & mayo based, which I know isn't for everyone (I see you got buttered lobster roll people and I understand completely; I'm just an equal opportunist when it comes to lobster rolls), but it was really good - like, not good for a hotel lounge, but good good. Yum! Ok, so why 4 stars? If it were based on the hospitality of the staff alone, I'd give it 6. Every staff member I encountered was genuinely affable - some were more outgoing than others, sure, but I appreciate mellow kindness. Also, this might be the first time I've remembered to pack all of my extra little charging stations, and I didn't even need them. So many conveniently placed outlets and USB ports - and the main room light was warm toned and welcoming, which is also a little treat :) I had to take away a star because of the general noise. My sleep wasn't disturbed, because I always travel with hardcore ear plugs and a sleep mask, but I couldn't close the curtains all the way (even with the pants hanger clip trick) so there was light coming in, and I could hear everything in the hall. Also plumbing noises (like pipes pinging and gurgling - nothing alarming, just...mildly intrusive). I was also disappointed that there wasn't a laundry bag or dry cleaning service like there are in the other Marriotts I've stayed in; I want to call myself out on not going to the front desk to ask specifically for this, but every other Marriott I've been in has a laundry bag with a dry cleaning order form in the closet. There also weren't any extra blankets in the closet; again, I didn't ask the front for one (and I'm sure they would have given one to me) but I wish there had been one in the room as it was super comfortable until I woke up at 2 am - which is really late and inconvenient to realize you need extra blankets. Ok, so that's why I took away a star. The other 4 are for the friendly staff, incredibly convenient location (anywhere I didn't walk, I took a Bluebike from the stand right outside), gorgeous fitness center (Pelotons?! What?!), and general cleanliness. If I come back to Boston/Cambridge for work, I'm 100% staying here. (If I come for pleasure, I'd probably try a quaint inn or something, but honestly I'd likely stay here the final night of my trip because it is also FIFTEEN MINUTES from the airport. But with a great river view, and no plane noises.) More on the location: walk to the river, and across the Harvard bridge. You're literally right there, and it's a great way to see the city (and while there's a CVS across the street, the one over the bridge is in a historic building. I'm from California, so to me that is very special 😂). It also takes 15 minutes to walk to the Cambridgeside Galleria if you n

As with most things we do this booking was last minute so we didn’t do the research beforehand. That being said we were pleasantly surprised. Deyli at the front desk was extremely accommodating. She checked us in early to a room with a partial river view. When we asked her if she could move us to a room with a more strait on view she didn’t hesitate. She really did everything she could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. When we asked for extra towels and coffee it was there in less than 5 min. All this during one of the areas busiest weekends. Plus your no more than 15 minutes away from anything you’re going to do. We had a great time and will definitely be back next year. Thanks Deyli and staff. See you next year for HOCR !

We loved staying at this Kimpton Marlowe! It was conveniently located in Cambridge just 5 minutes away from the main Downton Boston/North End area. Upon arriving, the gentleman at the front took our bags right away and placed them for us inside. Heidy, at check-in, was SUPER nice and helped accommodate our needs. She went above and beyond during our check in and check out to ensure that we had an excellent and comfortable stay. Our room was super clean, modern, beautiful, bright, and spacious. The room was nice and cool. The beds were SUPER comfortable. There was a fridge. We called down to have coffee machine brought up and they brought it right away. Our view overlooked a beautiful garden and the downtown Boston area. We asked Khalid where we should go for dinner celebrations that night and he kindly offered us a few suggestions that he thought we would like. The hotel is a short walk from downtown and a moderate walk to Harvard Square/Somerville. There is a reserved entrance, so it's super easy to get into Ubers. There's also a CVS/mall closeby in case you need to pick up any items that you need. We went down to the restaurant for brunch one day and we had a great time. The food was amazing; great selection offered. Our server was AMAZING - so nice, so responsive, so attentive (probably one of the best that we had in Boston)- and the overall dining experience was wonderful. There was another woman who helped us on our second day with extending our trip, which was very helpful. Overall: great location (close to Harvard square, go-to spots in Cambridge, and downtown Boston). Walkable. Easy to get an Uber. Close to stores. GREAT rooms (comfortable bed, spacious, bright, cool). Great amenities (coffee maker, fridge, microwave if you need, happy hour, coffee hour in the AM), and super friendly staff (Heidy, Khalid, everyone else at the front desk - sorry didn't catch your names!! -, the servers at the restaurant), and the restaurant too. Definitely recommend!

If you like this review please remember to leave me a helpful vote as Tripadvisor doesn’t pay anything for me to write useful reviews. The short version is I enjoyed my stay and it was like staying in an upscale version of an Aloft hotel. The long version starts here: I came up and stayed for 5 days for Tufts graduation weekend in May 2022. Staff was friendly upon check-in. I tried to do check-in via the Marriott App and was successful to an extent. While I was able to use the App to open my room door, you need an actual room key from the front desk to use the elevators, gym and pool area. So just using the Marriott App was unsuccessful and abandoned. I was assigned a room on the 4th floor. The room is self is modern in appearance and was very clean upon arrival. There was a small fridge along with coffee and tea maker available. There wasn’t a lot of drawer cabinet space available (2 drawers) but there were a sufficient amount of surface area, plus the room had a 2nd bed that I wasn’t using that I could just put my clothes on. In addition to power outlets there are USB ports available both by the desk and in between the beds where you can recharge your devices. Coffee, tea and water were free and always available by the front desk. The Wifi at the hotel was complimentary and had good download and upload speed. There were also 2 complementary iMacs in the lobby to use. Parking at the hotel is $25 a night, the breakfast buffet was an additional $20, and there is no daily house keeping service. That being said, there are small signs hat you can leave on your door if you need additional towels or just stop by the front desk to get additional anything for the room. Just for informational purposes, across the street is the Alewife Reservation DCR parking with 8-10 parking spaces where you can park for free for 2 hours when exploring the Alewife Reservation “AREA”. About a 9 minute walk from the hotel is the Alewife T Station where overnight parking is $9 M-F and $3 overnight on the Weekends. The room will be serviced by housekeeping on the 4th day of your stay. As I mentioned, my plan had me there for 5 days. While the room was serviced on the 4th day of my stay. I think it would have been more efficient for housekeep to service the room at the midpoint go my stay (day 3) rather then the day before my departure (day 4). I also mentioned that the breakfast buffet was an additional $20. That being said, they sometime offer a complementary breakfast buffet in the restaurant. I’d guess your chances are 1 in 30 maybe. There would be a sign outside the restaurant if that is the case. It happened to be on my 2nd day there, and I thought the breakfast at the hotel was very good (while yes it was also free that day). There were freshly baked goods as well as 2 different types of baked omelets, cereal, eggs, yogurts, and various beverages. While there is nothing “shopping wise” in this area, I also brought my bicycle with me. Specifically it’s a Cann

Everything was perfect about our stay from fulfilling our request for a higher floor room with a view, to the breakfast staff meeting our request for a ”hot” vegetarian item. We were leaving at about 5am on the final day and the breakfast doesn't open until 6:30am/7am, but the staff was very nice enough for us to let us pick a few bakery and refrigerated items for to go that early morning. The room was VERY spacious with a fully stocked kitchen with pots and pans. It was very helpful for the Uber Eats delivery we had one of the nights as we could eat in the ”real” plates and use the silverware. We put the left overs in the fridge. The entire staff of the hotel was very respectful and ever smiling. Having a Starbucks attached to the hotel was great and the exit thru the Starbucks to the parking garage was super convenient.

DO NOT STAY HERE- the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, given the price point. There are many hotel options in the Cambridge area, I'll go with Marriott Cambridge instead. Posted an extra charge to my credit card without telling me what it was or stating that in the receipt. Note that they don't provide any room service, citing covid when it's just a lame reason to not provide any service and probably to cut cost. None of the staff was wearing masks, so clearly, covid was not a concern. When I checked in, I noticed the bathroom did not have hand soap. So I called the front desk to ask for me, and they told me they would bring one to my room right away. IT NEVER ARRIVED. I could just shower gel, but that clearly pointed to management issues, and no one cared. Very stingy with their towels. They only give you two. And want more? You gotta ask for one. But remember, they did not care, so even if you call, you may not get a fresh towel. So why bother AC unit was SUPER LOUD. Like LOUD. Even if you set the fan to low, it was still LOUD. Bring earplugs if you are to stay here. The thermostat also did not work, it could not adjust the temperature. Also, the carpet in the room was dirty- some black gunk... didn't know what they were, but gross. The only upside was the gym. It was spacious, had dumbbells, etc. There's a Peloton for the Peloton fans. BUT, there's no water filling station. Are you thirsty after working out? Gotta pay for your water. The hotel presumes customers can fill their water bottles out of the pool if they're desperate. Overall, Marriott Cambridge has better gym equipment and a water-filling station.

I arrived early and they were able to find me a room that was available which was very nice. As a Globalist they offered a 4 pm checkout and free breakfast. Got a nice room facing the Charles River. A pleasant stay and very convenient to MIT. Also nice that they now have a shuttle that will take you to Kendall, Central or Harvard Square.

The maintenance of this property is abysmal. We were arriving from an international trip and wanted to sleep off our jet lag and visit our adult child living in the area. We arrived exhausted to find a bloody toilet seat, dirty bathroom, peeling paint from the ceiling, moldy bathroom and dusty room. When we called the desk to mention it- they said they would send housekeeping. They didn't offer to change our room- and we were so tired- we didn't ask. Housekeeper arrived (and entered without us opening the door) to clean the bathroom only. But clearly missed a lot of corners. The next day they offered to change our room-but we were too tired and busy to change- in the window of time that they offered us, so ended up staying in the filth. The bed was quite worn/spongy and didn't support us at all. The sofa bed mattress didn't have a mattress cover available. The view of the trash and T tracks were unappealing. The room was rather small/tight for 3,too. It was hysterical that we were sent emails confirming the hotel's commitment to COVID cleanliness. No hotel employees were masked. The best part of the stay was the good coffee always available in the lobby and the access to Cambridge and the T. I am a Bonvoy Gold member and expect a minimum quality to Marriott properties-this property was below all standards. It was the only time I was not recognized as a Bonvoy elite member too. When we complained about the filth- the hotel offered to refund us 1 night- but charged us the full amount. It only refunded AFTER we complained that there was a billing error. This hotel is not worth more than $300 per night. Look elsewhere.
