We booked rooms here for a party of 10, after visiting a few years prior. Soooo glad we did. We couldn't get rooms in the castle itself because of a wedding party, but it turned out for the best. The "apartments" up the hill afforded a stunning view of the castle (something you wouldn't get if you were staying IN the castle), so I highly recommend those rooms. Very spacious with private bedrooms and bathrooms for all five couples in our party (we had a 2-room suite and a 3-room suite). Great location for castle-hopping and visiting the local wineries. This was our third trip to Tuscany and we would definitely recommend Meleto. The Escape Room was the hardest one we've ever done (we didn't escape!), and the wine tasting was a little disorganized, but we didn't care. The infinity pools, the breakfast buffet and the English-speaking hospitality more than made up for that. Don't expect A/C! Or just lower your standards if you're used to American central air. Or go in the fall/spring when temps are lower. I highly recommend this location.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Le Pozze di Lecchi for a whole week. We really enjoyed our stay, as it was perfectly located in quiet Chianti, close to Radda, several great castles and Siena. We did trips out to Pienza and Montecino as well. Hospitality - Vincenzo and Francesca were amazing. They were wonderful hosts who took care of us each day, with helpful local recommendations, custom lunches, and amazing dinners/breakfasts. Room - our room was good and cool. Our AC was working well and the thick stone walls keep the place cool in general. Wifi was limited in our room, but this seems to be a feature of many Italian castles and older buildings with thick stone walls (as wifi struggles to travel through all surfaces). Grounds - amazing 14th century stone mill. It was so pleasant to walk around the grounds after dinner, go for early morning runs out to the vineyards and best of all enjoy the pool each afternoon. It's amazingly cool during hot summer days, and though there are other guests there it doesn't feel crowded. We lounged in the shade by the pool each afternoon for 2-3 hours. Food - we really enjoyed the breakfast every morning, with delicious eggs and coffee made to order as well as a wide selection of fruit and pastries. The dinner was surprisingly great as well -- in particular the homemade pasta and the seafood crudi platter.

What can I say. This was the second stop on our honeymoon and by far the most perfect. The views from the room over looking Gaiole were incredible and the hospitality second to none. Laura at breakfast makes the most amazing cakes and is so caring. I could have stayed here for the rest of our trip. We had a car for the 6 days we were here and it was the perfect base for us, we visited volterra, Siena, Saturnia, Greze and Castellina all accessible from here. Upon check out we met some more of the family who were so kind. We shall be back! Thankyou!!

We had an amazing stay at La Loggetta. It’s very private, surrounded by nature, the owners are very helpful and nice, the house is a typical country side villa. The swimming pool it’s a good size and clean. It’s a walking distance to the village Gaiole in Chianti and you several choices of Restaurants, Trattorie, vineyards. Definitely we want to come back!

My wife and I recently stayed here for a week. Firstly I would like to say what a beautiful location the hotel is situated in. The downside to this is actually reaching it, the road or more appropriately dirt trek is dangerous and treacherous. Holes, humps, slopes, rocks and dips are just a few of the dangers on the approximately 1.5km stretch. The hotel is very dated, dreary and in need of improvement. The staff all seem very unprofessional and quite amateurish at times. Our room was really authentic but not very comfortable. There was no information about the hotel and surrounding areas available and we had to ask for it. The pool is ok but you’re constantly pestered by mosquitoes and flies. Finally the breakfast, basically a disaster. Admittedly the hotel is 3 star but that doesn’t account for the woeful options available to guests. Two choices of cereal and basically the same fruit bowl all the week we stayed there. For the last three days we couldn’t have any toast because there wasn’t any sliced bread available and the toaster had been removed. All that was on offer was an extremely hard uncut loaf. The photo below is an Expresso that came in an ordinary coffee cup. Throughout our stay many guests were grumbling about the meagre offerings at breakfast. I think if this hotel was updated a little and more experienced staff were employed then it could be a stunning place to stay but only if the road was significantly repaired and made safe. The gentleman who checked us out was very nice throughout our stay unlike the younger gentleman who wore spectacles. He was nothing short of ignorant and unwelcoming from the start of our stay.

Perhaps we arrived at an off weekend because based on all the reviews we have read, this place seemed like a dream; however, we didn’t not get the experience that we anticipated. First we would like to caveat this post with the fact that we live in Italy and have had wonderful experiences across the country. The Castello was indeed lovely and the location was tucked away from the main road and very quaint. But other than the proximity to Siena, the experience of staying in a castle, and being in the midst of the Tuscan hillsides, the place itself left a lot to be desired, especially service and accommodations. We didn’t feel very welcomed and no one went the extra mile to ensure our comfort and we felt like we could have had a better and more intimate experience at another winery nearby. Upon our arrival we were unceremoniously greeted by the receptionist - there was no promised tour of the grounds, no explanation about the wine tours or cooking classes. We tried booking one but were told to find the owner and ask her. We ended up not booking any for this trip. When we got to our room in the tower, the room that we stayed in was pretty small but the decor was lovely. The breakfast and the dinner were okay - there was nothing special about it and we felt like the waiters weren’t very welcoming or attentive. We really felt like the staff didn’t provide us with the personal touches we usually experience across other places in Italy and we will try to seek out this experience elsewhere on our return to Tuscany.

This place is truly delightful. From the charming welcome by Marta we fell in love with everything about the place. It was a little tricky to find as sat nav lost its signal it is located at the end of a long gravel drive with the most beautiful views and it is so peaceful. The villa is decorated with the most wonderful antique furniture, there are so many delightful areas to sit and relax and the gardens are beautiful. The pool is lovely with plenty of loungers. We liked the honesty bar and the residents kitchen which was fully equipped, though we only used it for making drinks. Th e villa was spotlessly clean, well maintained and the beds were comfy. Breakfast was simple and adequate, though with a couple of minor improvements could have been a bit more special (better choice of cereals and breads and get rid of the pre-packed jams for example) that said the setting of the garden to eat breakfast was delightful. We were worried about comments regarding no hot water, however once we mastered the operation of the showers and with a little patience we had plenty of piping hot water. This place is fabulous and we hope one day to return.

We booked the rooms (2 rooms as our kids are 20 and 14) directly with the hotel 3-4 months in advance. No booking fees required and you could change the amount of days if you announce receptionist 24h in advance. Is an old mill in a secluded area, with very nice surroundings but nowhere to go without a car. Charming, not luxury. Very quiet, perfect to rest. The rooms are clean, spacious with plenty of space to deposit your clothes and comfortable beds. The outdoor pool is with water from a mountain spring. The dinner could be served at the hotel and is very good but our kids didn’t find too many choices. This was not an inconvenient as there are plenty of restaurants just 5-15 minutes away by car. One evening a wild boar cross the street in front if our car :) so you need to pay attention. Breakfast is excellent (especially the home made pastries), not to many choices but we were more than ok. It was an excellent place to stay and visit Tuscany.

We originally went to Badia a Coltibuono for a Wine Tasting and fell under its spell immediately: The main court is surrounded by old abbey buildings which are carefully kept in shape. By passing through it, you‘ll find your way into the garden and stroll under grapevine arches while admiring the Italian Garden. Luckily for us, there was one room left. The former monk cells are beautifully restorated and equipped with modern amenities, all while keeping their original charm. We did not have time to check out the pool which lies beautifully surrounded by nature. The very generous breakfast was served in a room that made you feel like royalty some time in the past; in a COVID-friendly way, the meal was brought directly to the table. In the evening, we got to enjoy a delicious meal at the contemporary restaurant right next to the abbey. And do not even get me started on the wine... just try it, it‘ll be worth the journey. If you are looking for a peaceful, romantic, high quality hideaway: This is the place to go!

We were over the moon with this find! The location, the apartment, the pool and the general feel of this place was magical. It was away from the touristy hub, close enough to authentic Italian villages and gave us the sense we were in the "real"Italy. The apartment was spacious and better than the website. It was kitted out with some free standing fans but we did miss the air conditioning on a few nights when the temperature was high 30's! The kitchen was adequately equipped however I would have made use of a few more large bowls when cooking, a full set of mugs/glasses based on the apartment was for 4. The hot tub room was lovely and we made use of the bike hire. This is definitely the place to go if you are looking for some rest and quiet whilst looking at the beautiful views. We loved Gaiole and found some fab places to eat. The food was stunning and the service great. It's only 30 mins from siena too. Gabriele is welcoming, friendly and helpful and stays very much in the background to let you enjoy your holiday. He speaks enough English to help with anything. If I was to suggest how the stay at Le Pieve Marsina could be made even better, it would be for there to be an accesible book in the reception room with important information in. It's useful for guests to share tips, places to go, eat and a list of numbers in a book for local services (doctor, pharmacy, supermarket etc) would be good to access at all times when Gabriele is not about. We have always stayed in self catering places like this but have found you can gain so much insight from past guests, especially for good little finds. We would have recommended a few places to eat and a visit to the hot springs. There were very thoughtful gestures offered, like the free use of the washing machine and use of the barbeques. This was a nice touch. A little system for booking the barbeque would be helpful as sometimes they were in use (only 2) when we had planned to use it! We would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful place and will definitely return again. Thank you Gabriele. We loved our stay at Le Pieve Marsina

My daughter initiated our trip for my birthday. We could not have been happier with choice of Castello di Spaltenna as part of our itinerary ! The grounds are perfection, the amenities wonderful and the entire staff a pleasure to interact with. Valentina and her colleagues were attentive to our needs and assisting with our plans. We hired a car and driver for 6 hours and have no regret. Doing so one can imbibe freely at the wine tastings, see the countryside, castles and towns without needing to follow a gps, and just relax. My only complaint was after a very long day of travel before our arrival and very much looking forward to a relaxing hour at the spa was first, the small group listening to music at the pool and then worse, the nasty Italian woman and husband who completely took over the jacuzzi with three children ranging 1yr-7yrs old (one in a diaper) and who snidely informed me to only speak Italian. My daughter and I sat quietly mortified and uncomfortable on the steps of the jacuzzi. The family stayed for the hour until a staff member let us know it was 9pm and time to leave. So much for our vision of relaxation. Other than that our stay was a dream.
