Getting back to civilisation and not just walking into a village and finding you accommodation easily this was a bit more difficult for me so just make sure you know where it is! Having said that the hotel is in a large plaza, one of many, so shouldn't be too hard to find but I had a long day - my only excuse! The room was pretty good, large with a bath. I decided to eat in the town in the evening rather than the hotel so I can't comment on that but the menu looked fine. The breakfast was about usual for this walk, perfectly adequate.

I was really impressed with the recent renovations at the Hotel, everything was really sleek and modern and clean, it really looked lovely, especially the lobby (love those trees that they used in the decor - so cool!). The room wasn't large, but it was very comfortable and clean. I really appreciated the lovely woman who checked me in, she was incredibly nice and friendly. There was a slight mishap of no hot water for a couple hours after I arrived, but it was just due to a power outage with the hot water tank and as soon as I and other guests let them know, they were able to turn it back on and get the hot water going. For the inconvenience they offered me a free breakfast, which was very kind. I was also happy that the wifi worked well (more rare than you would think in some of these cities in Spain) and the hotel was steps from the Camino so it was easy to navigate my way back to the trail the next day. Great value for the room rates, I was so happy to stay here after a couple of terrible nights in albergues and less modern hotels. Overall I had a great stay at the hotel and would gladly stay there again!

I began my Camino in Leon after flying in from Madrid and a bus to Leon. This was a welcome rest in a like new hotel in a beautiful historic city. Very modern nice fresh and clean. As a MARRIOTT Gold Member for the last several years Marriott always does a wonderful job and this was no different. I arrived very late after missing my bus in Astorga and after walking several miles from the bus station to the hotel I did not arrive until 10 pm or later and they held my room. Nice job!

There is really not much positive we can tell about this hotel. My wife and I stayed two nights there a few weeks ago. We liked the location, close to the Train and Bus Stations which was convenient to us. I must also add that the personnel was nice and helpful. However, the room was exceedingly small, and it turned out to be quite noisy. It was located on the first floor, and on our second night, and just a across the street, a block-party played loud music well into the night. It was a "ham and beer" party as we were informed by the front desk. We found the breakfast buffet rather poor and limited. My wife tried the coffee and could not drink it. But, there was a really good item, the freshly squeezed OJ was delicious. That was about all we found good. This hotel is supposed to be of four stars quality. In my opinion that is an incredible exaggeration. A low ranking three stars is more likely. Ponferrada, is a lovely place and this was our second visit. If you head in that direction, explore other accommodations. For sure there should be a better place to stay in town.

A hotel with the charm of the Templars, beautifully decorated and well-preserved. The spacious rooms are equipped with antique furniture. Rest on 10 mattresses. It is close to the center and restaurant area. The surrounding public parking lot is very convenient. The breakfast buffet is pretty good. And it's important! ! ! They know Covid very well and always follow the advice to keep everyone safe.

Should you ever find yourself in the town of Ponferrada (it’s on the Camino de Santiago) I strongly recommend that you treat yourself to lunch in the Ponferrada Plaza Hotel. We staggered into this modern hotel on a busy road after a hot afternoon walk from the train station, and when we had checked in to a comfortable room for two, the receptionist told us the Menu del Dia lunch was available in the restaurant. The price was €22 per person. Though a little sceptical of menus del dia in general, we decided it was too hot to explore further. It turned out to be a great. decision. The shaded dining room, occupied by a few family groups finishing their meals, had crisp linen tablecloths bedecked with a serious array of cutlery. The service was of impeccable quality and it was matched by the food. We started with an amuse bouche of watermelon soup, followed by a starter of grilled asparagus and wafer-thin ham slices, accompanied by crackers and foie gras. The fish we selected for our main course was all gone, but the head waiter, in consultation with the chef, suggested bacalao and began to explain it to us. He offered to find other fish if we preferred (There was a river nearby!) We assured him that we liked bacalao - and it was the best we ever tasted, served with daupinoise potatoes. Did I mention the wine? We expected that a Menu del Dia would include a glass of wine each. I was glad to see the waiter pour two generous measures of cold white wine, and I was even gladder when he left us the bottle, cooling in an ice-bucket to one side. After a sorbet, followed by dessert and great coffee we voted this to be one of the most memorable meals ever. Maybe it was the unexpected silver service quality, the superb cooking, the great value, the friendly but unobtrusive ambience, or the relief of such a find after a long train journey – but we’d be glad to go back and do it all again tomorrow!

This hostal is only a year old and the facility is a gem. The rooms are modern and very clean. The bed is one of the best I have slept on for the entire Camino. The bathroom and shower is top notch. There is a nice market on the bottom floor that stocks most amenities that you might need. The hostal is associated with Restaurante Ramon which is just around the corner. The restaurant is the best in Molinaseca. We met the hostal manager last year and enjoyed his enthusiasm so much that we decided to stay here and we are thrilled that we did. He, his father, and his brother make this stay something we will always remember. We will definitely be back next year. Now I know that Pimiento del Bierzo is better than Pimiento de Padrón!

I stupidly left my passport behind - it had fallen behind a chest and I didn't check until I was on the bus to Madrid. I called JL - who'd already given us his number should we need any help on the Camino in future. He was so kind and reassuring; he found the passport, and tried to arrange a courier but they couldn't get it to me before my flight left. So he took it to a postal service in the next town and used a bus service for me to collect at the bus station. He wouldn't take any payment and saved me a lot of stress and expense of missing my flight. This generosity of spirit was already in evidence during our brief stay in his lovely hostal. Obviously highly recommended. It's the people who enhance the Camino, plus his place and the town itself are lovely.
