Our one-night stay here didn't get off to a good start, as my partner arrived first, an hour before me. She rang the bell and phoned the given number without any response, even though the owner's wife was inside. She had to wait 15 minutes on the doorstep before being let in (accompanied by profuse apologies). Things did improve a bit from there. The place has a cluttered, quirky, old-world charm, very like some British B&Bs I've stayed in (though no breakfast on offer here). If you prefer standardised corporate suites, the Mews is not for you. Our room was comfortable if a bit cramped, with our suitcases competing for floor space. En-suite was clean but also a bit small. Wifi was good and it's a 10-15 minute walk to restaurants in Launceston's CBD.

Great location in the center of town, close to the gorge which is a great hiking spot. The rooms are very spacious and the hostel is very clean. My one and only complaint is that there are no security lockers, so nowhere safe to put your valuables if you’re traveling with a computer, camera, etc. Otherwise great place to stay!

I totally loved my stay at the Pod Inn!! Pros - Walkable to most major sites. - Short walking distance to groceries, restaurants, and stores - Has a restaurant beside/attached to (?) the hostel - Pods are private and spacious (and I'm a big guy!) Bed was cozy too! - Lights and air conditioning adjustable inside the pods - Place has wifi - Has a charging station for phones inside the pods - Common area has kitchen Cons - Reception is only open during business hours, so might be difficult to contact anyone outside those hours - Luggage locker is outside - Pods not too soundproof Over all I never thought I'd love staying at a pod hotel and I'm very happy that I had a wonderful experience with Pod Inn Launceston!

It's in a very convenient location. There's a pub next door, but you can sleep quietly at night. The food at the pub is cheap and filling. There is no hair dryer, so please bring your own. The best thing was that when I left something behind, they contacted me and arranged for it to be sent to me. The staff are very helpful.

Not recommended if you have heavy baggage as theres no elevator (only 2 floors though). The place is beautiful as it’s on the top of a hill, but not so convenient if you’re on foot to sightseeing / do grocery so I’ll give it a 4. We didn’t need much service it’s mostly just DIY without much issue so I’ll give it a 5. The place is definitely clean so 5. Amenities would be 3 due to the stairs for heavy baggages (might not be an issue for everyone), also there’s no blind or door for the shower so the water would spill out to other areas in the washroom even if you are very cautious.

I would like to give the reception staff Lisa and Karen 10 out of 10 for wonderful service. I was trying to get a bed for one night and rang the hotel as I'd booked on what I thought was their website - I'd booked the wrong night and couldn't change it. Lisa was the lady I spoke to and she very kindly sorted it for me in such a lovely manner. Then when I arrived Karen was on reception and the welcome was warm and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Personality plus, what an asset! The room was on the small side but comfortable, spotless and had a fabulous view of the city. It is also within walking distance of two theatres, bars and restaurants. A genuine pleasure to stay here, thank you ladies.

Contactless checkin very good, room tidy and spacious. Linen good quality and plenty of of it. Facilities tired - one of the ceiling lightbulbs not working, tap in the kitchen sprays water everywhere, soap holder in shower just about off the wall, not a single SOFT surface - not the beds which were like rocks, nor the sitting room chairs. No bowls,in the kitchen to have muesli for breakfast. The on site Vietnamese restaurant was good value.

This must be the only hotel in Australia that charges more to book direct than through a 3rd party. I stayed twice because of the location, once through Air BnB and once directly. The Air BnB offer seems to be a sublease through a guy who rarely responds to messages and the front desk don't deal with his bookings. I tried to extend my first visit but he wouldn't respond so I just left. The 2nd stay I thought may be better booking direct but they wanted to change me more $16 than online. They honoured booking.com's price when challenged but this seems very poor practise. The staff were kind and the room was clean but I wouldn't be bothered again.

Lovely place to stay. Well located to be able to get around the city with a supermarket across the street and walking distance to city centre and beautiful parks. Absolutely no noise from the road, other guests or neighbourhood do was very peaceful. The Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were immaculately clean and the most comfortable beds ensured a restful nights sleep. I had requested a ground floor apartment and walk in shower for my elderly mother who was staying with us and these were accommodated. I really can’t fault anything about this place other than it would be beneficial to have lighting above the mirror in the bathroom for applying makeup and shaving. Would be happy to stay here again and would definitely recommend.

We stayed in a family room. 2 adults and 2 kids. The site looks old and dated from the outside, but while the room we had was basic it was a great price, great location and large enough that we weren't tripping over each other. We had a really good trip and this room was perfect to come back to. It had all the facilities we would want, including a microwave etc.

As a solo traveller just spending one night in Launceston, The Star Hotel was the ideal choice. It is centrally located and street parking was easy to find and free between 17.30 and 09.00 next day. The room itself was compact but comfortable with an ensuite. The friendly, efficient female staff member was able to help with local advice and when I decided to have dinner later, the food and service were exceptional. Three see a couple of stair cases to negotiate but really no trouble. This place was a highlight of my travel in Tasmania.

A shop that the husband and wife jointly run is difficult to find at the beginning of the road. It is actually on the side of the road. Because the hotel on the other side is a bed and breakfast, but the experience inside is very good. The landlord’s own breakfast can go out and see if it will go out. Great choice

The location of the hotel is relatively remote, but the environment is very good. It is next to the Tamar River. The hotel was renovated from a granary. There are still some original barns outside and inside. There is a large free parking lot in front of the hotel. The hotel room is very large. The bed in the twin room is very big, and the tables and chairs inside are very clean. I specially chose to bring breakfast, but the breakfast is a bit poor. The a la carte breakfast is not very large and the taste is not very good.

What it lacks in being away from the CBD is made up for in comfort and price. The modern set of apartments are excellent. The only negative for me - pots and pans are non-stick and unfortunately unless the very top of the range, the non-stick coating comes away over use. I don't like plastic kettles as we are exposed to enough plastics without having to boil our water in it. So a change to the kettle and cookware would be nice. I chose to not use the cookware because of this, so more pyrex ware would be nice for use in the microwave. Loved the washing machine in the unit. The units are very comfortable and bedrooms are not beside each other and we did not experience any noise at all. Very well equipped kitchen. Warm and very clean and comfortable. It's a great base for an extended holiday in Launceston.

As a relative new hotel, Hotel Verge is spotless with modern amenities, a bright atmosphere and well appointed rooms. The Hotel presents an industrial look by design however we found our room warm and inviting with great views. The king bed was super comfortable where we experienced a quiet nights sleep. The bathroom is spacious with good lighting and plenty of bench space. The shower is of the modern open design yet splash to the rest of the bathroom was minimal if at all. The rain shower head provided a great flow with plenty of hot water. Hotel Verge appears committed to protecting the environment by only providing minibar products at reception and using refillable containers for toiletry fluids. However, the guest laundry still uses older style top loading commercial washers which are still good value at $5 a wash. Its most redeeming feature is the central location within Launceston City, conveniently located directly across the road from City Park and the Snow Monkey enclosure. Most all attractions are within walking distance to the Hotel. Lastly, the friendly and accommodating staff make the Hotel what it is, a great place to base yourself in Launceston.

The room was nice with a clean bathroom and comfortable bed, however very small and seemed better suited to someone on business rather than holidaying. There was quite a bit of noise surrounding as the front door opened to the car park, and the walls must be thin because you can hear voices from neighbouring rooms. The car park was also full most of the time so finding a park was difficult. I’d only recommend staying for business purposes only. Location was good.

Nice lounge and dining area and modern kitchen with all the appliances you would need. We came late and had to check in after hours which the staff organised for us without issues. Free car park in the front. A bit of a workout walking up the hill but a good morning exercise ;) Location directly opposite the City Park and only minutes walk from the main mall. DISGUSTING! We entered the vuilding and immediately a disgusting smell of dirty feed crashed into our noses! We honestly wanted to throw up and at 7pm when we arrived there was already nobody in the reception to talk to or to complain to. My bunkbed had a chewing gum sticked on it (photo attached). At night people were loud till 1am and in the morning at 5am they were back on, behaving as if it was noon time. We complained the morning after to the hostal that did not assume any responsability, saying nobody ever complained. No compensation whatsoever, but how could we prove the disgusting smell of the building?! NEVER AGAIN. ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
