The rooms are lovely and comfortable and very clean. The staff are incredible. Best service I have received in a hotel for many years. It was a very good experience from booking. Communications were quick and very informative. The breakfast was beautifully presented and very tasty. Would never stay anywhere else when I come to Bruges. Hotel very well located for centre of Bruges, and a fantastic price as part of a deal. Room was a bit dated but functional, bathroom a very good size and excellent facilities. Staff very friendly and accommodating, room was very clean. Didn't spend a huge amount of time in the hotel as we were visiting attractions etc, but would happily stay here again.

Just back from a weekend in Bruges and I can't recommend the Hotel Bryghia highly enough. It's in a great location - just far enough out of the centre to be blissfully quiet and but less than 10 mins walk from the Market Square and Belfry. Right next to a beautiful canal and bridge. It was the perfect balance of an old building but with modern facilities. The bed was so comfortable, we had the best night's sleep. We were welcomed by the very warm, friendly owner, and by some Belgian chocolates in our room! The map and local knowledge he shared were priceless. We are already planning to visit again in the Summer and will definitely book the Bryghia.

My husband and I stayed in Hotel Ter Brughe for three nights. What a beautiful old building full of history. Our room was very comfortable and clean. We had a canal view and what a beautiful view it was. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. I cannot say one negative thing about this wonderful hotel. The location was excellent too, within walking distance the main square, restaurant's and shops. I cannot recommend Hotel Ter Brughe enough.

It's hard to decide what the best feature of this hotel was. The location is excellent because it is on the edge of the commercial district, and not directly in it, as some of the other hotels we considered staying in were. This meant it was quiet and peaceful but still only a few minutes walk to the center of town. The hotel itself feels more like a private home than a hotel which made it feel really personal. The staff was excellent and could not have been more helpful and friendly. The room was mostly comfortable with a very comfortable bed, nice bathroom, good towels, etc. Our only complaint was that the air conditioning in our room (number 26) was under powered and the only unit in the room was on the opposite side of the room than the bed. Even with the thermostat set to the lowest temperature, the room was too warm overnight. If not for this, I would give the hotel 5 stars. Overall though, this is a great hotel and very worth staying at.

The hotel was clean and the staff so friendly and helpful. It was an ideal location for a city visit. Breakfast was something inconceivable and the same daily. The eggs of the wheel were unfortunately complete. Fresh fruit was little available, even cereal breads were not there. Sometimes cereal bread. A big shortage was the rumble right in front of the house and our room. Although the hotel cannot do so, we were not told when booking. Although we spent 7 nights there, no other room was offered back, although many people spent only one or two nights there. This daily noise source until 23:00 or partly until 24:30 was already extreme. I expected more support from the staff here.

Dukes' Arches Brugge Adults Only
4.3/5101 Reviews
Bruges

Having stayed several times at the Dukes Palace, Bruges, and this being a sister hotel, I expected a similar standard. It's not. Reception staff cold, unfriendly and frankly, unhelpful. Booked a parking space, but one had not been reserved for me (there's only four parking spaces at the hotel - and one of those was being used by the hotel manager). Was told I would have to leave my car in a public car park. I did not want to do this for security reasons. Having visited Bruges around 20 times, I am fully aware that parking is extremely limited, hence the reason I booked the car park. They had no record of me booking the car park (booked through Hotels.com) and did not have any spaces available (if I had been the hotel manager, I would have offered to move my car for my guest - the fact that this didn't happen tells you everything). I took it upon myself to pop over to its sister hotel, the Dukes Palace, and explained my situation. The staff there were very helpful and said I could park my car in their car park. Why couldn't the receptionist at the Dukes Arches arrange that? Absolute zero customer service. Bar area, whilst very nicely appointed, completely lacked atmosphere, despite being quite busy. Breakfast service was good. Staff within the breakfast room were very helpful and friendly. Courtyard room lacked a courtyard view (please see photo). Bed was very comfy. I was concerned about the low water temperature in the bathroom (I'm familiar with legionella) and reported this to the reception staff. Met with a shrug of the shoulders! Be aware that with the ground floor courtyard rooms, there is a corridor off the car park to access these. The external door does not closely very well and with cars coming and going, the corridor fills with car exhaust fumes. Overall, very disappointed. I will be coming back to Bruges (fabulous place), but will never stay at this hotel again.

When we arrived at the location we interphoned and the door opened automatically. We left the bags at the hotel we went to walk. When we returned at the end of the day there was a packet with the number of the room. The next day we interphoned to make the payment. The hotel is in the centre, I found it a little dust, perhaps because of the dynamics of operation.

Starting with the positives: 1. It was clean 2. The ladies in the breakfast room were lovely and friendly. 3. Breakfast was limited, but reasonable for the cost of the room. 4. The beds were comfortable, up to a point. 5. Towels were changed daily. 6. There was a lovely view. The negatives: 1. There was no seating in the room apart from the bed. So the view was harder to enjoy. 2. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. 3. Storage was 2 clothes hangers on the door. 4. No shower gel, etc., just a small soap bar. 5. The heating was limited to 19°. There was a €150 euro fine if you increased the temperature, or you could pay €50 per day for additional warmth. 6. The bathroom arrangements were not the best if you were a couple on their first trip together - fortunately, we weren't. 7. The decor in the room was tired. 8. The corridor was missing parts of the laminate flooring. 9. Everything such as tea, coffee, hairdryer, and toiletries came at an additional cost. 10. The list of rules that came with the room felt oppressive and unwelcoming. Overall Experience: It was a budget hotel, and I have no problem with that being reflected in the standard of accommodation. However, when you have flooring missing, limits on heating temperature, regardless of the temperature in the room, and no basic provisions, it feels less like budget and more like contempt for the customer. The rules came across as draconian and unreasonable. The tiny pillows? Couldn't they stretch to normal size pillows? Or not charge for extra? Yes, it was advertised as having an unstaffed reception, but when there's so little effort being put into making you feel welcome anyway, it just seems to reflect a general lack of care for the customer, rather like the missing flooring. The breakfast room ladies were lovely, though.

The Black Swan is located in an old building in a great location in the old part of Bruges. The main sites and restaurants are close by and easy to get to. The hotel was refurbished with modern conveniences while keeping to its original decor. The staff was very helpful in arranging taxis to get to the train station and recommended a very good restaurant (Restaurant Diligence-see my review). Although the price was very good for the location, the wifi was weak and breakfast was ordinary (but good) with only instant coffee which kept it from being excellent. We'd stay there again given the excellent value.

Deluxe room was very nicely decorated and bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom I felt could do with a bit of modernisation. Wifi worked well and automatically connected when we entered the hotel. Breakfast was really excellent; not a huge choice, but something for everyone, quality ingredients, lovely porcelain cups and teapot. The hotel is very centrally located at only 5 mins walk to the main square and the Belfort. The staff were delightful, super friendly and very accommodating. We very much enjoyed our stay and will highly recommend Hotel Biskajer to our friends and hopefully return again ourselves. To note: underground parking is available nearby for a fee. There is a free shuttle from the train station to the center of Bruges, otherwise, a taxi ride to the hotel will cost around €15 for an 7/8 passenger van.

The Aragon hotel is situated almost in the center of Bruges. Accessibility is easy for small cars, if you happen to have a larger station wagon or even a small or large MPV you will find it difficult to park at the hotel (limited parking spots and not easily accessible). The rooms we booked were in a separate building a 2 minutes walk from the main hotel. The walk over there is no issue, dragging you luggage there though is ! Also as the main hotel has the restaurant and breakfast location, you need to walk there, which was not an issue for us (mid summer 2019 it was nice and dry) but would be on a rainy day. The overall price we paid for the rooms was more then OK as the rooms were spacious and nice. The breakfast is OK, but not up to a 4 star hotel rating. At check out, although everything was prepaid I was asked to pay a local tax by credit card which I found disappointing.

The Portinari is in a great location near the middle of Bruges - we had views of the cathedral and bell tower from our room. The room was spacious and modern with a very nice bathroom. The espresso maker was a nice touch. Breakfast was decent if a bit overpriced (but then aren't most things on a city break?). Another nice touch was the dispenser for free still/sparkling drinking water. Only comment was: we would have loved a drink in the hotel bar but it was never open - despite the literature stating it was open from 6pm. Shame as we would have stayed up with a beer/card game. Overall a great stay and would definitely come here again.

The hotel is in the old city and about a 10 minute walk to the centre. Looked a bit dated from the outside. Inside, however, was spacious, modern and clean. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and very large with guest safe and refrigerator. The rooms were very quiet. Breakfast was buffet style which was fine with a good selection. The bar area was very well laid out and not overly expensive for a hotel bar. All members of staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Special thanks to the young man on reception duty when we checked in , Saturday 3rd September, sorry didn’t catch your name, as our booking could’ve caused confusion . It was sorted out very professionally. I must also apologise to you as I think a member of our party took a shine to you and she made you blush. The biggest criticisms for the hotel was how hot it was. We were there with temperatures in the high 20s and humid. There didn’t appear to be any functioning air conditioning either in the hotel or the rooms. The other issue and this was more a staffing problem was that the hotel bar was closed 2 nights out of the 4 that wee were there. As whole though worth a stay. Will definitely be using again.

Our room (109) is spacious and immaculately clean. The sofa and bed are both very comfortable, the shower has great water pressure and there is a bath, that I wasn’t expecting in a small city hotel. The room is in keeping with the style of the hotel and indeed the area. There is also a small balcony. Breakfast is for those who enjoy slow starts with very tasty food cooked to order and a glass of fizz. Lovely little bar and lounge area too. We stayed here for 3 nights and had room 32 which was upstairs, with one window overlooking the garden and another (the bathroom) overlooking the rear street of the hotel. The room was immediately accessed from the lift (literally one step away). First impressions of the hotel in general were great - Jan Brito, converted to a hotel from a grand house in the 1990s, certainly retains its C16th feel with high ceilings and original features. The owners have taken care to maintain its unique heritage. Pluses were the location, the quietness of the hotel, pleasant staff and the size of the bedroom (much bigger than normal) & the roomy, modernised bathroom which included a shower, a separate bath and a good magnifying mirror. Both rooms had plenty of storage space. The bed was spacious, firm and had clean linen. TV had BBC 1 & 2 - a bonus abroad! Breakfast was fine with good choices of cooked and cereals/continental breads etc in lovely dining area, though the self-service area was small so I can imagine it being difficult to negotiate during busy times. Minuses in Room 32 - the shower was lukewarm and had nowhere to put soaps/shampoo so you were bending all the time (I advise taking a shower gel with a hook). The bedroom was quite dark without lights on and needed refreshing. TV straddled 2 pieces of furniture, for example, and I was worried the bathroom handle would drop off, lovely as it was! On balance, I'd definitely recommend the hotel as a place to stay but would opt for a different room. PS: Our bathroom overlooked a small cafe/bagel bar which was popular/vegan friendly & looked enticing. Handy supermarket round the corner for water etc.

Convenient for self-driving tourists. Free parking is available in ample location. Just renovated, the sanitation is very good. At the time of check-out, a bag was dropped into the room. When the breakfast was served, the waiter took the initiative to return it.

The Hotel Montovani is a reasonably priced hotel that offers you all that you would expect or need. Its biggest asset, of course, is its location. It is located a block off the main avenue, Hoefijzerlaan and is just mere blocks away from the Historic City Center. The hotel has a lounge area and a glass covered veranda that opens out to a lovely small garden. This was the ideal location in which to enjoy the delicious breakfast or, perhaps to relax in the afternoon with a hot beverage. These were included in the room rate. The rooms were comfy and clean, the bed and pillows, comfortable, enabling you to wake up refreshed and ready to start your day of exploration. The service was friendly and efficient. There was free wifi. There was no onsite parking, but free parking was available on the nearby avenue, just minutes away. Bruges is the capital and largest city of West Flanders. It was inducted into UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2000. We were visiting Bruges with the intent of adding this World Heritage Site to our list, in this case, there would be three. Bruges's Historic City Centre is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets, medieval buildings. In fact, along with cities such as Amsterdam, it is often referred to as the ”Venice of the North'. The Belfry of Bruges is part of the World Heritage Site of Belfries of Belgium and France list, which includes 56 Belfries in total. The tower, which dates from the 13th century, has 366 steps which lead to the top of the 272 feet high building. This is a must ”to do” climb! The third site is the Ten Wijngaerde Beguinage, a beguinage built in the 13th century and included in the World Heritage Site of ”Flemish Beguinages”. A Beguinage was an architectural complex which was built to house beguines, lay religious women who lived in the community without taking vows or retiring from the world. As we were only here for two nights, I do not have a lot of recommendations on where to eat dinner. The one dinner that we did eat here, was at the Cafe Sportsman, situated on the Markt. The meal was good and the service was good, but what was most extraordinary, was the location. There are many restaurants situated around this square, so your choice is quite overwhelming. The buildings are extraordinaire, the Belfry was located across from us, and in the evening, the light is very distracting. A visit to Bruges is worthwhile and actually deserves more than two nights, but there was still much ahead in our journey. So whether you stay longer or shorter, the Montovani comes with a high recommendation!

The common spaces were charming, but the rooms were disappointing. The first room they offered me was dark and depressing (this is a comment mentioned in other reviews), so they proposed another one on the top floor, but it did not have a safe. Finally, the third one was bright and had a safe. There is no A/C so it was very uncomfortable during warm nights. There is a small fan supplied, but if you wish to open the windows, be prepared to battle the mosquitos (there is a canal just outside). There were traces on the ceiling of crushed mosquitos from previous guests and some live mosquitos were in my room when I checked in! Anything that is not included in the daily cleaning routine is never cleaned. There is accumulated dust on many surfaces, especially black wood furniture frame. This includes the sofa in front of the lobby check in desk and any surface in the room, even the fold out tray to put your suitcase. The paint of the wood tray for the water bottle is peeling away (not sure if this is a design intention). There were traces of lipstick on one of the white bathroom towels. The sink faucet in the bathroom was faulty and hard to open. There is no soundproofing, so you hear every footstep and squeak above your head (the other guests better be quiet!). Because the rooms are fitted in an old building, some spaces (like in bathrooms) do not have proper clearances (see other guest reviews). At night, forget the ambiance in the room, there are two recessed ceiling spotlights that flood the whole room, no specific desk lamp or accent lighting. The only other option are the bedside lights, but they are not enough to give sufficient lighting. My worst experience was with management. After realizing at check in that there was no A/C (my mistake), I wanted to book another hotel for the second night. They said they would refund me if they found someone to take my room for the second night or else I would have to pay, which I thought was a fair proposal. So I cancelled my online reservation to make the room available. The next day, they refused to say if they rented the room and told me they would keep the money even if they did. If they had no intention of refunding me, they should have said so instead of lying and collecting two rentals (including breakfast) for the same night! Disappointing. I would never recommend this place.

The hotel is still great. The breakfast place is very beautiful. The juice for breakfast is very good. The room is also very comfortable. The only thing is that the aunt at the front desk is a little bit strong and makes me a little uncomfortable. The location is also very good. Very quiet. The temperature was 40 degrees at the end of July. The room we stayed in may not face south so it is cool. The toilet is also pretty good. It is recommended for everyone to stay. Bruges is worth visiting for two days (if you like taking pictures). By the way. It is not convenient to take the bus from the railway station and then drag the box down the stone road. There is no uber to play, there seems to be a taxi

We stayed here overnight during a brief visit to Bruges. We chose this hotel because the hotel was centrally located and the building itself was charmingly renovated with nice views of the city and it blended in nicely with the ambiance of the historic center. It was also very close to the tram stop from the train station. Most locations of interest are within a very short walking distance of the hotel. The staff was accomodating. The room itself was clean, quiet, and comfortable and we slept very well here. Our room did not look out over the canal but had a very very nice city view from the top floor. The room itself is small but pleasing. The breakfast was very average but satisfying. We paid €12 per person and thought it was worth no more than that. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again when in Bruges due to its central location and its charming ambiance.
