We stayed at the Skylark for a weekend birthday party that was held there as well. The grounds are beautiful, with large tree that had plenty of shade, and tons of pretty grass. There is also a pool and play area. The pool was perfect temperature to swim at anytime of the day. The play area has two horseshoe pits, a couple swings, table tennis, and a big grassy fields for games. The area we had to our party was even bigger. There were approximately 60 people at our party, and we and tons of room for everyone to move around. The views of the lake are incredible. The room we stayed in faced the lake and the room was large, clean, and nice. The bed was about average and the pillows were too. Overall I will be coming back here again and again.

From the photos online, the hotel looked a little dated, but since we were just using it for a place to sleep, I figured it would make due. The rates were the cheapest I could find in the area so that was a huge plus. I grew up in this area and never had a need to visit the hotel so I really didn't know what it was like. At check in, I was greeted by, I assume, the owner. He was nice and check-in was pretty quick. We had a friend drop us off, and I don't think he believed me when I said there were only two staying in the room, but we weren't charged extra. When we got into the room, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was updated compared to the online photos. After shutting the door, the horrors began. The front, white door was covered in I don't know what. Black smears up and down with a huge dent the size of a fist in it. The lime green accent wall was smeared and speckled with dark stuff. The smoke detector above the vanity looked like it had been ripped off the wall, with exposed wires and the back to hold it. There was what looked like poop on the in the corner as well. When I opened the bathroom, I gasped. There was a huge black mold spot on the ceiling above the toilet, the toiletries looked like they had just been thrown on the back of the toilet and sink counter. The shower curtain, bathroom floor, door frame all were dirty and looked like they had never been cleaned. There was another hole on the front of the bathroom door that looked like another fist hole. None of the towels in the room looked like they had been put in nicely, and just lazily set down. The throw pillows on both needs both had stains on them, one of them looking really shady. The TV was huge and looked new, but had something on it that had dripped down and dried. I was honestly afraid to touch anything. Surprisingly enough, after inspecting the beds and sheets, they were clean. With it being as late as it was and us not having a way to go anywhere else, we stayed for one of our two booked nights. We couldn't handle a second and thankfully got a refund for the second night. I've been in and worked in some shady hotels, but this hotel has to be the worst. The housekeeping just really seems to not care? The floors and bedding were clean and the room didn't smell bad, but the glaring issues with the stains and stuff on the walls, the towels, the carelessness of the soaps just being thrown down show that they don't care. The smoke detector missing was also a huge worry and I'm pretty sure illegal. I would have asked for s refund for our first night as well, but we used the room. We didn't have much of a choice, but we still paid. I would not recommend this hotel unless they seriously reevaluate their housekeeping and maintenance. If this were a corporate chain hotel, they'd be shut down. Fortunately for them they're in a small town with minimal options.

The casino is very small and very smoky. There is a small bar located here and the employees are more concerned with talking to each other and playing games with each other than they are in helping the customers. The employees also favor their friends that come into the bar. Let me expand on this: When I walked up to the bar there was a female and a male working here. The male was talking to a lady friend that was on the customer side of the counter, they were talking about drinking and other fun things they do, this went on for about 3 or 4 minutes as I stood there. Then when she left he looked at me, then turned towards 2 other guys sitting at the bar, they were talking like they were friends and giving fist bumps, then the bar tender rang a bell for some reason. All this time the female bartender was walking around the bar area and she looked at me a few times. I kept waiting for someone to come take my order. Now about 5 full minutes passed and I finally asked if I could get a drink, the girl turned and looked at the guy bartender who was busy talking to his friends. She finally took my order. Now on to the hotel. The check in desk people were very nice. We got to our room, it is old, small, and needs updating. The TV is a 20" small TV. There is a mini fridge, a very small microwave, and a coffee pot (mini pod type). The room was 90% clean, although it did smell dusty. After we woke up in the morning, we found these 3 white plastic things with 2 large nails in them laying on the floor. It turns out they use these to keep the dust ruffle nailed to the bed. Can you imagine what it would be like it we stepped on one of these? We told the girls behind the desk when we checked out and they didn't seem to care. During the early evening hours (9PM) there was a band playing in the lounge, we were a little hungry so we went to this little café and ordered 1 Philly cheese steak sandwich, paid for it and was told they will call us when it was ready. After 30 minutes we were concerned that we had not received our food yet. We walked over to the check stand and was told it was coming up soon. We sat down and waited another 15 minutes, still no food. We went back to check again, and they could not find our tag. We showed them our receipt and the host remember us, she went back to check again and said it would be right up. Again, 20 minutes, no food. I then asked for the manager, a lady showed up and I asked if she was the manager, she replied that she was the floor supervisor. I told her the entire story and her host agreed. I told the supervisor that she WAS NOT doing her job! I then asked for my money back. She then called a young man over who said he was the manager, he looked to be 21 years old. All 3 of them stood there dumbfounded, then he left and went to the kitchen and there was no cook in there and they could not find any of our tags. After 10 minutes, they finally refunded our money. I then again expressed how terrible this was and that n

Initially our stay was nice. Front desk personnel were friendly enough. We had two adjoining rooms with the bathroom in the middle which was nice since we were two with our grown son. Also along was our dog due to the evacuation process. We were grateful to find a room to sit out the evacuation which we expected to be much shorter than it turned out. My biggest beef is the lack of compassion when it came to the financial burden the extended stay put on me and my family during the whole fire ordeal. They could have given us a better deal or even have waived the pet fee - especially to have charged us for it day after day. C'mon. THAT would have helped me to feel there was better customer service. There was a strange request for my brother who initially was paying for our room to send his credit card info via email to them. nope don't think so. I mean really? They said that was the owners policy if paid by someone outside of the ones staying there. Other than that they were 'accommodating' with our requests for more coffee, shampoo and extra towels. There was no chair in either room and my husband's back was really feeling the pain of just sitting on the side of the bed for four days straight. They provided a folding camping style one which was appreciated. I don't think we would recommend this place....a little high for the area we feel being residents in nearby Nice. However considering the situation of the crisis we were thrown into by the fire.....we appreciated their efforts but not the fees. Eventually we were EVEN evacuated from this motel as well and had to leave the entire area! But certainly not management's fault as they left too.

The actual room at the Kelseyville Motel is what one would expect in a budget motel, except that compared to other motels, it really needs a deep cleaning. Housekeeping does the usual job, but it appears that this has been the only cleaning going on for a long, long time. There is dirt in the corners of the bathroom, etc. The towels are small and very thin - not really adequate for a shower and hair-dry. It seems that articles and accommodation is very, very minimal - no resources being returned for operation and supplies. The real issue with this motel is the environment and the service. First, housekeeping did not even clean our room on one day when we were out all day from 9AM to after 6PM. The "do not disturb" sign could not have been on the door, because none is provided. "I told them to..." was the reply from the operator, like that made it OK. We had to accept just towels as housekeeping was long gone for the day. Next, the toilet paper was allowed to run out as very little was provided, with no extra roll - it had to be asked for. No coffee was provided when used, and again, it had to be requested and then only one "regular" coffee is provided, period - no decaf, and no extra pack just in case more than on person drinks the coffee. There was loud talking outside our door on the first night until I called the office at nearly 11 PM. This wasn't bar patrons returning to the motel, this was the operator and others! The same with the next night, only this time it was in the operators room next door!! Until 1:30 AM! Complaints to another involved person, older, presumably the owner being in the office early in the AM on our next to the last day, was met with a bit of a glare, and his attention was rudely turned immediately to an associate that walk up to our conversation. He did not care at all, and would not reply to me. My impression is these owners and operators want you to come, pay your bill, and go - the quality and condition of the accommodations and your say is secondary or of little consideration of theirs. The wifi is not really secure as the password is one of the first one would try to hack in. The cable TV very limited, and issues could not be addressed by people there in attendance. Luckily, this is not a high priority in the my case.

In trying to give this motor lodge a fair shake I stayed in three different room types, during three different visits but, was unable to find any of them satisfactory. The setting and grounds are lovely but, the rooms, especially the soft squishy beds, need some serious work. In the rooms the heaters rumble all night and have so much dust and grime sticking to them it’s a wonder that they can even run. The bathroom floors and towels are a filthy, stained mess, there are no hair dryers or ironing boards and the office doesn’t answer the phone when you try to resolve issues. When we stayed in the cabin, it had two pairs of old boots hanging in the closet and when we requested that they be removed, we were ignored. Neither of the cabins get WiFi what-so-ever. They call mobile homes on the property “cottages”. If all you want is a great view with your pet sitting next to you then choose this place otherwise drive on.

With so much negativity going around us lately, I would like to share a positive story. My vehicle broke down in front of the Super 8 Motel on Highway 20. It was a SUPER hot day. I was stranded a few hours away from home. To make matters worse, it was Sunday, after the 4th of July weekend. Therefore, no Auto Repair shops were open to help out. Just my luck! Next thing you know, I see a motel employee stop his work and approach my car. The employee asked me if everything was okay and if I needed any help. Instantly, I felt a sigh of relief. I explained to him the situation on hand and he says, "Don't Worry! Everything will be okay. Please feel free to sit in the air-conditioned office and we will figure out a solution." As I entered the cooler office, the manager on duty, Vick, offered some cold Water, which I accepted. Vick had stopped his work outside to help make sure I was taken care of. Vick did not have to go out of his way to help me, but he did. You cannot teach anyone that kind of customer service. Genuinely, I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Vick - you LITERALLY saved my life! As I was dead tired and not able to get my car running, I decided to get a room and figure out a solution early Monday morning. Vick had situated me in a quiet, non-smoking room upstairs. On my walk up to the room, I had noticed that Vick was working on pressure-washing the outside of the building. I was happy to see the inside of the room was nice and clean, just like the outside. To help future travelers, I wanted to list out a few things I loved about the room: it had a comfy King bed, a large TV, and a powerful shower. There were other amenities (refrigerator, microwave, iron, coffeemaker, etc.) in the room that I did not use, but it was nice to know that it was there. All in all, I was very happy with the accommodations and service this business provided. Vick -- once again, THANK YOU for helping me out!

We returned to the Tallman hotel for a brief stay. This is my second stay in two years. The hotel remains immaculate and all expectations were met. I highly recommend the hotel. It is certainly up to standard and very nice place to stay. The breakfast service in the main dining room is very nice. They have an assortment of local jams. The homemade Granola is also very nice. They still do not serve warm eggs but to serve hard-boiled eggs. I’m not sure why the reluctance to serve scrambled or poached eggs but otherwise breakfast was fantastic.
