Having stayed in many Chamonix hotels over the years, I decided to stay outside the town (10 minutes on the regular free Chamonix valley bus to town). The hotel is a traditional, family run hotel that has sat underneath the Bossons glacier for many, many years. The views of the Aiguille du Midi and Mt Blanc from the terrace are incredible. The facilities are exactly as described on the website. What is not obvious at first glance is the service you will receive at the hotel, much from the members of the family. There was a wonderful balance between formality and familiarity. As an example, three friends arrived at the hotel having traveled from the UK. The arrived just after breakfast had finished. As we sat down on the wonderful terrace for a coffee, one of the staff (a family member) instantly asked the new arrivals if they would like something to eat with their coffee and very quickly returned with fresh croissants and accouterments. I was luckily enough to spend three nights at the hotel. One of the friends who had arrived for one night has already booked a further trip to share the hotel with his wife.

I mistakenly reserved our room a day early. While the wonderful folks at Chamonix Lodge could not refund the mistake, my mistake, they made good by making sure we had a place to stay. Nice place, basic with a good breakfast. Great value with really nice folks taking care of the place!

Booked this hotel last minute through Booking.com Was accommodation only in a family room for family of 4 with an 11 and 12 year old. The breakfast add in is about 9 eur each per day which we did on the first morning. Do not add this one. Definitely no where near value for money. This is the only negative comment I have on the stay. Hotel is slightly out of town ( literally next door to Hotel Vert which is better known ). There is a ski bus stop outside the door which is perfect for skiing during the day but also dinner at night ( this is also the nightbus route which is handy for post dinner bus home ). It is walkable but we had heavy snow so used the bus. Hotel staff are super friendly and helpful. The ski locker area is an old barn outside but does exactly what you need it to do. The family room was very good. There was a good layout partition that separated the double bed area from the two full size twin beds. The bathroom was a decent size. I would say this is larger that what you would expect from a hotel room but not as big a studio apartment set up. To be honest not much more to add. Very good location and value for money for Chamonix. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. I will be definitely using this again for any further long weekend stay in Chamonix whether it is for a family trip or a trip with friends. The only consideration is you need to eat out. This can be next door at the Hotel Vert though where there is a bar and a restaurant. ( We did order take away pizzas on our first night which worked ).

We have stayed at La Chaumiere with friends and family for about eight times, and every time totally enjoyed our stay. We have always selected half-board for convenience after long days of skiing. The hotel is very cozy and relaxing, breakfasts and dinners are great, walking distance to city centre is convenient, and the value overall is very high. We have always had a car for commuting to the five different resorts of Chamonix, so don't really know how convenient the ski busses would be, but there is a bus stop just outside of the hotel. The overall skiing experience in Chamonix is great for intermediate to expert skier with rather efficient lift system and the possibility to choose right altitude and terrain depending on weather and temperature. All the skiing brands (clothes & equipment) are also well represented in the city (sometimes bad for the budget). I have usually rented the equipment (at discount for the hotel quests), and benefited from the opportunity to change skis during the week between different types of skis depending on snow conditions.

we stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. their website didn't have great descriptions or photos of rooms. we booked the largest (and most expensive) suite thinking it would be the nicest with best views. turns out it's more like it's own little chateau and the views, while wonderful, weren't quite the same as the main hotel building rooms (plus we didn't need all the space and kitchen). they were very accommodating and moved us to a room in the main hotel building. the views are to die for. just amazing! the hotel is on the hill with unobstructed views and it's absolutely breathtaking. it is peaceful and wonderful. the breakfast in the morning was a typical French breakfast, and included pastries, cheese, meat, yogurt etc. we'd recommend this hotel!

We stayed in the Nid l'Aigle apartment, which is like a large studio apartment with a separate bedroom. It was plenty spacious for two adults and could have handled a couple of children (assuming the sofa opens out). We had booked this place as our last of three Alps stops so we'd have the option of preparing hiking lunches and maybe a dinner or two at the end of our trip. We made two simple dinners over the five nights, and the kitchen was well-equipped. The laundry (small washer and dryer and drying rack) in the basement came in handy at the end of a two-week trip. The long deck had no chairs, but you could have taken out a kitchen chair. The windows had a terrific view of the Mont Blanc massif, and it was relaxing to watch the weather change against its face. There was some confusion about when we would get cleaning/trash removal. When I checked in, I was told it would be after the fourth day, but it was after the second, so we had to call down for extra bathroom tissue later in the stay, which was promptly delivered. We did not have time to use the spa, but the hotel lobby's always-available espresso machine was nice to have, and our dinner in the restaurant was very good.

The hotel is right next to the cable car station, one room can go to the cable car station, and the other room can see the snow mountain. We lived at the snow mountain at first, but there is west sun, the hotel has no air conditioning, and it is like a sauna in the afternoon. So we switched to the super cable car station, which feels much better, but in the summer no air conditioning is still hot. There is unlimited free water and coffee in the lobby on the first floor of the hotel, as well as children's drinks and some sweets. This is still quite good, and the swimming pool that comes with the hotel is not bad, it is quite big. We booked a family room with a large bed and two small beds in the form of bunk beds. The quilt was too thick for summer.

This is an outstanding hotel and we greatly enjoyed our stay! The staff is unbelievably kind and helpful (Carolina and Ana were stand-outs). The breakfast was a pleasure as was the breakfast staff. Our room was beautiful, overlooking the river. The commons area has a small bar and tea room, which was great for meeting new people. There was wonderful, free afternoon coffee and tea with deserts! There is convenient ski storage out front. And the location is great for walking to the "main strip" of Chamonix, or catching a bus right out front to the ski areas. (Regarding some comments of the room size -- this is a hotel in France, where room sizes are smaller. Ours was roomy enough! And quite frankly, I was not in Chamonix to stay in the room. The room was pleasant, and very clean). We so greatly enjoyed our time there!

The hotel was one of the nicest ones I stayed at during my Tour du Mont Blanc. The rooms had nice upscale furniture and bedding. I also stayed at another hotel in Chamonix and would pick Grande Hotel des Alpes again. The pool and spa were disappointing in size relative to the hotel I stayed at in Courmayeur. However, the Grande Hotel des Alpes felt much nicer in the rooms. The hotel is in the center of Chamonix with lots of nearby restaurants and shopping. I would stay here again if I am in Chamonix. Breakfast at the hotel was somewhat expensive. You could get made to order omelettes and crepes made. I would probably prefer to go to nearby restaurant given the price.

We stayed four nights in the lovely Hotel L’Oustalet in Chamonix. The location is very convenient... near the Agiulle de Midi lift, train station and many shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful... Two sisters run the hotel... we met Agnes, and she was a lovely host! Also, Becky at the front desk was very friendly and helpful! The staff at breakfast was also wonderful. The room was spacious, comfortable and included a beautiful view if Mont Blanc! We highly recommend, and in fact we hope to return sometime in the near future!
