Good value for money, there are not many homeless people nearby, and a boy doesn’t feel unsafe to stay by himself. There is a microwave oven, a separate bathroom, and the curtains are not very tight. It will wake up in the sun in the morning, so bring a blindfold to solve it. recommend

If I'd had an elegant and lovely Victorian grandma, I'm sure she'd have been right at home at the Inn San Francisco. Owner Marty is a sweetheart, showed us all the hallway photos and gave us a detailed orientation to the city and the hotel. Without his intro, we'd have missed the truly amazing rooftop view. His hand-drawn map of all the restaurants in the area is absolutely impressive. Marty, GREAT GOLD is a fabulous new Italian restaurant on 24th that deserves to be added to your map--from the same folks who brought SF flour+water. Fresh flowers in the bathroom and bedroom: lovely. Sherry and port on silver trays: elegant. Breakfast beyond breakfasts. Stargazer lilies in the common room: ugh, I'm not a fan of that pervasive strong smell but I know that's my personal nose-wrinkle. Coffee was bitter, maybe bring in something from Portland? ;) You absolutely cannot beat the personal touches throughout the Inn and of course, there's the uber-hip Mission district right outside the door. The Inn is an easy 10-minute walk from 2 BART stations and about a half hour walk to the Castro. If your taste leans more toward Zen minimalist decor, don't stay here. But otherwise, go out, wander around, enjoy the hubbub and excitement of the diverse neighborhood, then return to your dream grandma's quiet mansion for evening sherry.

The room was clean with window and quiet facing courtyard. Low budget furniture but worth the money since i was only sleeping in the room. Flat screen tv with a lot of channels but the best of all was the location! Clean neighborhood right beside Castro area and walking distance to the center. surronded by bars, restaurangs and supermarket.

This gets 2 stars because the staff is nice and the rooms relatively cheap, but this place is a janky motel and I found it very uncomfortable, lacking a few key amenities. Cannot imagine how anyone could give this a 4 star rating? My guess is those folks have never traveled before or have very low self-esteem and don't think they deserve comfort. Pros: - Friendly staff - Clean bedding - Easy proximity to mid-Market, downtown, and the Stud, if you're into that place Cons: - No elevator anon ground floor rooms, although the front desk clerk did help me carry my luggage up the stairs - Beds and pillows are very firm, terrible for side sleepers or anyone who prefers or needs a medium or soft bed. I'm writing this at 4:30am because I can't sleep for fear of hurting my back - Beds don't have proper blankets, just a very thin one between two top sheets and a bizarre faux blanket at the foot of the bed that is just a thin, 18" x 48" runner. I had to ask for another blanket and the desk clerk had to check to see if they had one. - Very thin walls. I thought I was used to noise but you can hear 9th Street as if it were in your room, and the pigeons are an intermittent nuisance. - Room was clean, but the decor is so run down, it doesn't look it. I had to check the tub surface with my handset see if it was clean because it is so worn. - Carpet, not so clean. - Rooms are tiny, which would be fine if comfortable, but exacerbates the discomfort I'm beating myself up for not checking out the reviews first, so that's on me. But my expectations really weren't very high - I just needed a clean, quiet-ish place I could sleep for a couple of nights while in town for work. But the San Francisco Inn cannot provide that.

We stayed here at the beginning of February, just for 2 nights. The hotel has a secure buzz in/keycard entry front door. Lady on reception was very sweet and friendly and quickly checked us in. The room was a good size, with a large double bed, sink, wardrobe and ceiling fan. There was also a tv with cable so a great selection of things to watch. The toilet was at the end of the corridor, there was never a wait to use it. The showers were a little dated and could probably do with an update. There was a free breakfast area with tea, coffee and juice, and a selection of cereal, toast and waffles. Ok, so the hotel IS above a nightclub (but I did my research beforehand so I knew this), we were in the room directly above it. SF hotels seem to be silly prices and this one fitted our budget well. It is out of the main city but is still in a good area with places close by to eat and drink. Uber was less than $10 to pier 39, or a nice 45 min walk along the waterfront. The guy on reception was very helpfull but just one of those few Americans we met (were British) that didn't show the happy face of customer service. Rooms seem to have had a make over, were large, comftable and had everything we needed. Its SF , you are not going to spend much time in your room after all. Breakfast was fine with coffee, juice, fruit and plenty of pastries. Is a good choice for those who are on a budget but don't mind being in a quite neighbourhood away from the attractions.

The Embarcadero is our favorite area to stay in San Francisco and over the years we’ve lodged at Harbor Court and the Vitale multiple times but this was our very first stay at Hotel Griffon which is next door to the Harbor Court and provides the same panoramic views over the Embarcadero and out to the Bay Bridge. Arriving during a time when the pandemic is still holding sway over our nation, the experience was a much more subdued and quieter one that usual. It was clear that this was far from the normal times of high energy and nearly constant activity that San Francisco usually exudes. For us tho’ it represented an ideal transition from “shelter in place” to a special respite. During our stay at Hotel Griffon we felt that safety protocols were carried out in the best possible manner and we felt well cared for. Sharon, the front office manager was a delight to talk to and so helpful—she saved us a futile walk to a restaurant that had closed just days prior to our visit. It didn’t occur to me to check on their status but she did just that. We encountered other pandemic-related changes: Parking in the nearby Rincon Garage was necessary since hotel valet parking wasn’t currently available, and on-site Perry’s restaurant where we normally would have had breakfast was closed during the morning. Hotel Griffon’s small historic (built 1901) lodging ambiance really appealed to me. The rooms are small and intimate and feel very comforting. Our Room #419 also provided a stunning, scenic view over the Embarcadero and out to the Bay Bridge. During our short stay I spent an inordinate amount of time just staring at the Bridge and sat for over 30 min. mesmerized by the undulating “light show” that plays out each night. It is truly art! Being able to watch it from the comfort of our room was a pretty incredible experience. Our room, although small, had all the wanted amenities including a super comfortable King bed, good size desk with swivel chair, 32” flat screen TV, phone, in-wall safe, coffee maker, hairdryer, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The closet area was quite small—a little alcove near the door but would still be fine for a couple of nights. Our bath was tiny and the sink and counter were actually in the main area with only the toilet and bath tub/shower combo in the separate bathroom. The basics all worked well with good water pressure, lighting and ventilation—the fan was kind of noisy but kept the bathroom steam-free when the shower was engaged. I was pleasantly surprised that there were multiple, accessible outlets and USB ports in the room, and that the lighting was sufficient to comfortably read by it—something so often lacking in many hotel rooms. We only turned on the heating/cooling system for a short time upon arrival. The rest of the time the room stayed at a very comfortable temperature. Our room was at the end of a hall and was nice and quiet throughout the night. We loved being able to walk a short distance to dinner at

Hotel Via defines the modern “boutique hotel” experience in San Francisco. The booking process on-line was efficient and intuitive. When I had questions about my accommodations, I was able to reach a live person on the phone at the hotel lobby desk within seconds of calling. Loading and unloading were simple, as the main entrance is located on a side street off the Embarcadero. Generally speaking, the space is able to create a warm feel with a modern design and color scheme. The hotel staff are universally friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The rooms are super clean, exceptionally quiet, and have all the modern amenities. The rooftop bar, Rooftop at Via, with sweeping views of downtown San Francisco, San Francisco Bay, and Oracle Park (home of the San Francisco Giants), is spectacular. The gym is spacious and functional. Bar Via offers a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of food and drink offerings. The location offers easy access to many of San Francisco’s most popular sights and destinations. I will surely be back and recommend Hotel Via to anybody!

Stayed here with work for a whole week. Not a fan or hotels in the US as they are usually the basic of basic with a motel feel. Room, as expected was basic although a working iron and TV was a blessing. Room and bathroom a good size and the shower was very good, although free bathroom condiments not so much, having to use 2 of everything each shower to actually feel clean/make a lather (I’ve no hair!) Only saw an employee once, on check in. She was nice enough. ‘Free breakfast’ really annoys me as its barely a breakfast offering with a coffee pot and some pastries available in reception. This is photographed so don’t have any preconceptions of a restaurant style offering. Car park was often busy, but loud and that yellow mustang makes a racket coming and going so look forward to that. Heating in the room is an old style AC unit which is really loud so you can sleep with it on, but it does heat the room quickly in the morning. Look out for the elephants they keep upstairs as their foot steps can be heard day and night (if your in a ground floor room). Plenty of sockets for power and even USB power sockets at the bed, so kudos for that. If you like a motel feel, this place is great - if you like a hotel feel, not so much.

Hotel G was a happy accident. We needed a quick place to stay pre-wedding and chose this one on hotels.com based on its proximity to Union Square. I didn't know what to expect but the pictures looked nice so I took a chance. I booked the smallest room cuz it was the most reasonably priced. When we checked in we were pleasantly surprised by how nice and modern the hotel was. It's beside the driveway of the Westin and about a block away from Union Square. The room we got (510) was a decent size, very comfortable and had everything we needed for a good night's sleep. We ended up extending by a day and upgraded to a larger room (one of their king rooms with a sitting area on the 11th floor). That was also a very nice room but it was much colder (due to the cement floors) and we enjoyed our room 510 better. Some pro-tips: 1) PARKING - save yourself the valet $ and park in the Mason O'Farrell garage around the corner for $35 for 24h. It is so convenient and saves you a ton of money 2) Light Sleepers - ask for a room away from the street. We had no problems in room 510. You can definitely hear some street bustles and cars but nothing too major. 3) Late Check Out is 1:00pm at the latest. They allow it if you ask very nicely. And if they're not busy.

Bottom line: affordable option at a great location. Read the cons, and if they are something you're ok with go for it ;-) Pros:  1. I could not find any other reasonably rated hotel at a price below $150-$200, at least in the dates I needed. 2. The location is right by union square. Close to everything. Also from a safety perspective, especially if you're travelling alone (a few blocks further from union square it gets less friendly).  3. Spacious room, well heated in the winter, has a safe.  4. My room was facing the back and was super quiet. Cons: 1. Low water pressure, at least in the room where I was staying 2. The bathroom had a funny smell at the beginning. Not sure the source, maybe the pipes. I left the vent on even when I was out of the room and after a few hours it passed.  3. Very basic mattress, not the most comfortable.  4. They will not accept a credit card for deposit and payment when checking out. Payment needs to be done on check in or when booking.  Even though these three things I am giving a high rating to the place because none of the cons bothered me too much and I think there's good value for money here.

In a world of trendy hotels and Airbnbs, I was a bit skeptical that a bed and breakfast might be... shall we say... sketchy... dirty? This place stole my heart. It is a charming Victorian located ONE BLOCK from the Painted Ladies. If you walk one direction, you get to Hayes Valley/Civic Center BART. If you walk in the opposite direction, you get to NOPA. If you walk in yet another direction, you get to Lower Pac Heights/Japantown. And if you're up for a lot of walking, you get to the Valencia St/Mission. The interior of the bed and breakfast itself is not fancy, but for my mom and my San Francisco staycation, all we needed was a clean, quiet place to sleep in a safe neighborhood. They offer a continental breakfast which is modest, but the coffee is from Bicycle and the pastries are from Jane, so everything is high quality. The staff is very nice and accommodating. They let us store our valuable luggage behind the front desk when we checked out of our room, but weren't leaving till later in the day. My mom's wedding anniversary is in a month and she's thinking of taking another staycation with my dad at The Grove Inn. If you want to truly experience a San Francisco hilly neighborhood full of Victorian homes, stay at The Grove Inn.

My wife and I recently traveled to San Francisco to see the Harry Potter plays, and we picked The Clift Hotel next door to stay. We wanted to tour the town and the area during the day. There were issues, though. I recently broke my foot and was wearing a boot, and my wife cannot walk long distances. I called the hotel concierge - Steve Edmonson - for detailed help with arranging and booking city tours by car, transport to and from the hotel, meal reservations, and a motorized scooter. I am a bit of a nervous traveler and did not want any uncertainties. Over the next several days, he and I had several phone and email conversations about working through our several specific requests. Steve has been the best hotel concierge I have ever met. On the phone and in person, Steve has been consummately professional and detail-oriented, and every bit as concerned as I about making the trip run smoothly. He has owned the process as much as I have. He has provided a level of personal service far beyond expected. We had a wonderful stay, and I can not begin to express my appreciation to him for his effort. Steve, thank you. While I am at it, let me also note that the Clift itself was terrific, too. It is all brand new on the inside, and the room was large and very comfortable. The hotel is very near Union Square, shops, restaurants, and theaters. Without a doubt, this was a great hotel experience for us, and I recommend it very highly.

My wife and I stayed here 5 nites and was quite pleased. It is located in a wonderful neighborhood so close to the bustling activities of Union, Fillmore, Lombard areas. The building is an older Victorian style but well maintained and so quiet. Our room 8 was located on 3rd floor (no elevator) was good size with couch, queen bed and small sitting area. Only complaint was mattress was too soft and in need of replacement. Bathroom was clean Shower had good pressure. Furniture a bit old but no issue. Breakfast was continental: coffee, muffins, cereals, fruit, toast. A refrigerator was available to store your cold drinks. All in all a good stay save for the too soft mattress. For SF, a good value at $250 per night. Reception was quite friendly and afternoon tea was also available. I would recommend Jackson Court.

Although it is not in Union Square, which everyone chooses, I personally think it is better here. First, the price is cheaper than United, and the second is the convenient transportation. There are many buses at the door. It is convenient to go anywhere. The bus costs $3 per person, and it’s free within two hours. By the way, the room is very new, smart toilet, I booked the cheapest room, so the space is quite small, the two suitcases are spread out, not easy to put, but the room design is reasonable, I like it. There is no breakfast. After paying the full amount for the room, I paid another 200 USD deposit, which has not been refunded.

We stayed at Geary Parkway while visiting San Francisco on a motorcycle ride. The hotel was great and conveniently located to the Golden Gate Bridge. However, the best part was the manager Henry and his customer service. We unknowingly dropped our bike key and didn't realize it until 300 miles later when we stopped for gas and couldn't turn on the bike. Luckily I could start the bike with a pin code, but Henry called me to tell me about the key. Not only that he printed out a shipping label so UPS could pick up the key from the hotel and get it back to the Harley Davidson rental shop. In essence, that $25 to ship the key was far better than paying $300 to replace it. I know this review seems less about the motel and more about Henry, but we are just so greatful and appreciative for his help.
