4.75km from Ciaocore bistrotMy husband and I were staying for the week in Italy with my cousin and her husband who own a house there. We decided to stay in Ostia rather than Fiumicino the night before our flight like they usually do. The price was very reasonable. The accommodations were fine. Bathroom was a little small and pillows were flat which is quite common in Italy. But the room was comfortable with a cute balcony adjoining my cousin's room. Check in was simple enough. The gentleman at the restaurant checked us in but provided very few instructions on how to get in and out of the property or breakfast and checkout in the morning. There is a cafe downstairs with very little indoor seating (3 two seater tables crunched under the buffet bar). Although chilly on November, we decided to sit outside so we could all four sit together for dinner. We were able to coax them to turn out the patio heater for us. The food was delicious, but our female server was reluctant to be friendly or helpful and did the bare minimum. My cousin's husband speaks Italian fluently enough that there wasn't a language barrier. She could also speak some English. She was either having a really bad day or didn't care for tourists. The next morning we went down for breakfast at 6:30 because we needed to leave for our flight at 7. The same gal was working and was even less friendly than the night before like we were inconveniencing her even though the paperwork in the room showed breakfast starting at 6:30. She served our croissants and put the order in for our eggs. We asked her how long it was to the airport so she knew we were catching our flight. She was in no hurry to help us. We asked how to check out and she mumbled something unintelligible and walked away. She brought the paperwork to check us out about 10 minutes later. We finally had to get up to leave and the eggs came out on plates (30 minutes after they were ordered). We told her we had to leave for our flight. She didn't say a word to us and scraped the eggs into to-go containers and handed them to us. I wouldn't recommend this B&B simply for the two experiences we had with this one young lady. I certainly hope she isn't related to the owners because she isn't doing them any favors and is really spoiling what would otherwise be a pleasant experience for travelers. She should not be in the service industry. My husband and I are new to international travel in the last 5 years but we are far from being considered snooty American travelers. We try to fit into and really enjoy the local culture of the places we visit. We prefer the towns and activities off the beaten path. This was the first time I felt like we were pre-judged for being American. I wish her the best, but hope she finds a more suitable job that makes her happy.
