This hotel is just across the Luther church and 5-10 minutes walk from the central station (not to be confused with wilhelmshöhe station which is 4 km away) The check in is fast and the staff verry friendly. I chose the hotel because its one of the places selling the Kassel-card, if you want to go to the museums and ride the tram well worth it. The room are clean, have lots of space and even the rest room mostly has a window. The price includes breakfast. Beeing spoiled, the coffe is lousy - no cappucino or latte just plain filter coffee. The rest of the breakfast is nice.

Good location - handy for trains, trams, shops, etc - but quite basic accommodation. Breakfast was pleasant: the food was good although the choice was a bit limited, if you're used to a full English :-). The coffee was luke warm.

Very nice building and decor, has the look and feel of a very grand yesteryear but needs a few touches to bring up to date The rooms are big and very very high ceilings, great floor to ceiling windows. The bar area is pretty with an old fashioned games room with pool table (free) but the table needs recovering and the pool cues need new tips They only serve cold breakfast and cold evening snacks One small gripe.. the picture in the lift advertising breakfast over sells it.. it shows lots of breakfast items you will not find, like croissant and sausages Kassel town centre isn't great and the hotel is on the edge of the town centre and a less attractive neighborhood.car park is small but cheap and right by the door, it's right next to the train station and the roads are easy All the castles and attractions are 10min out of town and there are beautiful hotels by them.. but if you want or need the town centre location... I'd choose the Tryout no problems

I was surprised by the hospitality and friendly service starting with the booking, and first encounter at the teception. The location is 8 minutes walk of City Center, in a quiet neighborhood, from exterior with an inconspicuous outlook. The hotel has own parking places at about 50 meters away from main entrance, at a very low cost of €5 per day! The reception is manned until 21 hours and personnel is friendly and professional. Elevator is available and the lobby. All spaces as bar, hallway, lobby room, basicaly the entire facility has a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. There is a bar and a lounge where drinks are served. Breackfast is available for €11 per day and is worth every penny. Excellent, frish, diverse and well assorted is served directly to the table. Really unbeatable, personally I would say a must while hosted at the hotel. Rooms are quiet, clean and with comfortable beds. I highly recommend this hotel!!!

We arrived rather early ,had our baggage stored, and returned after three hours to find that my room was not ready.I was unwell and needed to lie down, but was unable to do so for some time, until it was found that the room I had booked for a friend had been ready all along,so that I would have had somewhere to go temporarily. Another failure of the reception staff was to have no usable map to offer to guests, merely a faint grey generic printout. As a result we had great difficulty finding the town centre, and passed through a very unpleasant locality adjacent to the hotel which would have been easily avoided with a proper map.An occasional half mile walk to the TIC by one of the staff is all that would be required. Our (620/622) rooms were booked late, being the last two airconditioned hotel rooms available in Kassel, and larger than required( suites). In view of the size and price of the room,I was dismayed to find no bath, although the shower was at least functional, with a proper enclosure and a soap dish. The room was otherwise well equipped, with a fridge, kettle, safe and good storage, both hanging and drawers. There was plenty of light, and aircon was controllable without central interference. It was quiet at night ,having completely separate inner and outer window frames and a carpet.Unfortunately, sleep was not promoted by inadequate curtains and my usual short bed/ small single duvet problem. Breakfast was rather simple for the price, but proper tea could be made and the sausages were excellent. A lot of money has obviously been spent in upgrading this very ugly 1953 building- the firedoors are very new and impressive- but a few simple changes are still needed.

Beautiful property. Clean hotel and room. Parking available in a garage behind the hotel, which of course is not free. My particular room overlooked the hotel courtyard, where breakfast is served and where their restaurant is located. This made my stay somewhat less pleasant, as to have the windows open (or even just the curtains) you invite people in the courtyard to see you as you walk around in your room, so be careful what you wear, if anything! Additionally, even though the restaurant closes at 10PM, the Staff apparently likes to hang out and smoke in the courtyard area, which was awful because the smoke then drifted into my room (I had to have the windows open because there is no AC and it was hot in the middle of August) and their noise interrupted my sleep in a room that's otherwise quiet!!! The Staff did provide a fan upon request, which did help against the heat. Location of the hotel is good - short distance walk to the city center and just minutes to numerous restaurants and the lovely parks in the area. Overall good choice. Just make sure to ask for a room that doesn't overlook the courtyard... I did not try the restaurant on-site, but apparently it's good. Give the location and comfortable rooms, I recommend this hotel.

Apartmenthaus Wesertor After staying in 7 cities, this is our 8th and my most favorite apartment in our entire Eu trip. We were greeted with super friendly staff. She is very patient in teaching us on how to roam around the city and how to get to Schlosspark Wilhelmshoehe. Our apartment is minimalist, modern, super spacious and very clean. It is fully equipped with flat screen tv, kitchen with ref, utensils, microwave etc, super clean bathroom. Beds are very comfortable. Wifi is free, fast and stable. Highly recommended for long and short stay.

We booked this hotel for a one-night stay en route to Bavaria from the North of Germany. It is located on a busy road leading to the famous 'Wilhelmshoehe' Park and Monument and the fact that we could park just outside the hotel on a parking metre basis was a real bonus. We were greeted by a very friendly and clean-cut young man who showed us to our room and helped us in our desire to take one of the impressive trams into the city centre. The room was on the small/dark side, but it had a welcome bath/shower attached and two separate beds (as reserved) Despite the proximity to a main thoroughfare and city, it was extremely quiet and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast room was a revelation--a large ballroom appeared to have been converted into an impressive restaurant with chandeliers and parkland views. The lady in charge looked after us exceptionally well:she was a character for whom nothing was too much trouble.... On leaving the hotel, the young female receptionist was really friendly and helpful and directed us to other sights worth seeing in and around Kassel.

I spent the night together with my family at this hotel. The hotel offers reasonable rooms to a fair price. Unfortunately I had room placed just on the opposite side of the elevator which was noisy. My room had window to the street where the tram and church bells made a lot of noise. So if you have a room with windows towards the street remember your earplugs. The beds in the rooms is really good. The cleaning in the hotel was fine and the staff was really nice. The breakfast was okay and contained what was expected.

We stayer here for a few days. Nice hotel. It is something different. Colorfull rooms, modern design, staff wearing regular clothing instead of a uniform. We cannot explain why, but it gave us a good coming home feeling. Friendly staff. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from trains and bus. Kassel city center only 10 minutes by public transport. The hotel provides a free 3 days ticket for public transport if you ask the reception. Car parking (payed) is close by. In the evening after 18.00 free parking at the street. We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel. We went to the bakkery in the trainstation. Not much restaurants in this area. Why not 5 stars from us; we missed the coffee and tea on the room and there is no aircondition. The hotel was a little hot.

The location is excellent, the main entrance of Kassel William Railway Station to the right is the hotel. There are several cars at the entrance to the train station to the city center. The most intimate thing is that the hotel sends a transportation card. In the days of Kassel, the city's transportation costs are saved a lot. On the other side of the train station, there is a tegut supermarket and several bakeries. The living facilities are quite convenient. Although close to the train station, the room is also along the street, closing the window is not too noisy to sleep. But the room is small and there is no air conditioning. In the hot weather in Germany this year, it was a bit hard at night.

Stayed on a Sunday night on our way further East. Clean, on the outskirts of town but on a tram route into town - the hotel gives each guest a tram ticket to use...which is a great little gimmick. Rooms are a little spartan but functional. No A/C and we were on the street side of the hotel...and it was best part of 30c! A case of either leave the windows open and get disturbed by traffic and trams on the cobbles...or bake. Breakfast was adequate. If you do a street view of the hotel you will see a restaurant - this is actually a separate business selling soups, salads and baguettes (does serve alcohol) but not much else. We dropped bags, went into town using the tram ticket for a cold beer and in search of a bite to eat.....to be honest we didn’t see much that appealed and didn’t much like the look of the people hanging around....so caught the tram straight back. A small restaurant across the road from the hotel was just closing (it was around 6:15 pm), a couple further up the road were not open and the one downstairs didn’t really offer anything substantial. We asked the hotel receptionist (Bettina) for a recommendation- she suggested a Beer House, only 400m away but tucked on a road which we would never of dreamed of searching on. She made a call and booked us a table - really nice service for such a hotel. Meal was great - portions were huge...I mean huge....beer was also good. Think from memory our main course was €13.50 Later on Bettina on hearing our journey plan also recommended a small diversion to see the half timbered houses in the small town of Melsungen - another great call. Hotel has a car park.

Passing through Kassel on the way north, and to catch the Wednesday showing of the remarkable Wasserspiele in the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, we landed in the Hotel am Herkules, which describes itself as a “hotel garnì”, or basically a hotel that does only bed & breakfast. We were able to get a quite reasonable flammkuchen snack and a glass of wine in the evening, but if you want to eat on a larger scale, you’ll have to go elsewhere, for instance to the Herkules’ big brother, the Steinernes Schweinchen, or up to the Terrassen, an eatery-with-a-view right by the statue of Hercules. Anyway, we were put in a very pleasant top-floor junior suite that boasted one of the nicest showers I have experienced in a long time, with a lovely pebbly “cobbled effect” stone floor, although I see one TA reviewer wonders how "hygienic" it might be. I liked it anyway. The bed was comfortable, and the design of the room was otherwise splendid, but the wall-mounted television was in such a position – between bookshelves – that it was impossible to insert an HDMI cable and run a laptop through the TV. A bit of a missed trick, that. All in all, this was a decent enough billet, with a good self-service breakfast (including – wowza! – freshly-pressed orange juice), at a fair price, and in terms of location it was perfect for us – right below Hercules himself, where the water feature starts its flow down the hill. On the down side, it wasn’t exactly cosy, somehow. “A touch impersonal” might be the expression. I’m not sure where the problem is – perhaps it’s new and still finding its natural path, or maybe the staff found my wife and I to be innately unlikeable characters. Go figure. It’s a listed building, so be warned there is no elevator. Parking, on the other hand, is right outside.
