|0.13km from city centerWe have been travelling across The US for >60 days. Our hotel brand of choice is a Marriott. Unfortunately this one wasn't up to the standard we have come to expect. On checking into our room I identified that the remote for the tv wasn't working. It was the only evening we wanted to watch a film before bed (time-bound as related to our travel the following day). I called immediately to ask for someone to attend the room. Over 30 mins later (and a further call) a lovely gentleman arrived and confirmed the batteries needed to be changed, and later changed them. All of the waiting (around 45 mins in total) meant we missed the opportunity to order any dinner from anywhere. Not great really. On the plus side the parking was easy and the service in the restaurant for breakfast the following morning was outstanding.

|12.9km from city centerThe only thing I liked about this hotel was the clean rooms. Everything else: a major disappointment. We checked in Thursday 7/21, and the front desk computers were down. The front desk agent registered me by pen and paper, it took 25 minutes. When I went to my room, the air conditioner wasn't working, so I had to go back to the front desk and change my room (another 10 minutes by pen and paper). The air conditioning units in each room, lobby, and dining area were over 30 years old. The hotel itself (lobby, dining area, exterior building, landscaping, and parking lot) wasn't well maintained and didn't reflect the photos shown on the Travelocity website. There was peeling paint in our guest bathroom, and the furniture in the lobby was faded, dirty, and worn. The lobby computer was sitting on a desk that was bar high, but had a normal sized chair instead of a bar stool. The lobby computer also had unreliable internet connectivity. The bathroom had motion sensors that turned the light and fan on every time you walked in or past the bathroom. The front desk had staff who were visibly frustrated and unmotivated regarding the issues with the hotel. Two front desk personnel informed me they were on the receiving end of other angry, dissatisfied guests. The housekeeping staff wore regular clothes, not clothing indicating they were housekeeping; some of their clothes were untidy, and one of them was wearing jeans without a belt; his pants were hanging below his butt. Both ice machines were out of order. The website listed an outdoor swimming pool. but it was located at the adjacent hotel (a rundown hotel) next door and it was out of order. It didn't look like the pictures on the website. At 1215am Friday a front desk agent knocked on my door because they forgot I moved to another room. He needed to confirm that the room was occupied and not vacant. Breakfast had very few items, some of the items, such as fruit appeared frozen and almost rotten. I paid for two rooms for a total of $988 for an average cost of $165 a night. I rate this hotel as two stars. When it comes to hotels, first impressions and overall presentation are two key factors. Based on my three night experience, I won’t be returning. I did speak to the manager about the issues, and I received a $100 credit on my hotel bill. However, offering small credits pale in comparison to the overall issues of this hotel. The management and ownership seemed to care more about business than repeat business. When speaking to them directly, I felt they offered lip service, but no genuine concern for the issues with the hotel. I believe the issues I had with this hotel aren’t recent, and management nor ownership hasn’t taken any steps to improve the minor issues and the overall appearance and services of this hotel. Without an external inspection or audit, I feel the issues will be an ongoing experience for anyone who stays there.

|2.06km from city centerThis hotel is fairly decent and from what I experienced the man who I waited for then had to go and get seemed nice however, try not to need anything because getting someone is like a lottery. You have to wait or search for help and that cheapens the stay. I understand guests may need help and you have to leave the desk however, come back guests want to check in and others may need help also. I had a corrosive coffee maker and took it down in exchange for another one never got it called the next morning to speak with the manager hoping she would locate one for me but she claimed to be busy and never returned the call or made the effort nonetheless, my room was clean and other than housekeeping, manager Rachel and the front desk staff are off escaping duties, my opinion but it spoke for itself. Seems to me if they are so busy doing their jobs guests needs should be met and that big bag of trash sitting in the hallway for over a day should’ve been removed and not a fixture next to the elevator. Also since they have so much of a need to be away from the desk seems to me they would invest in a cordless phone which only proves my point they don’t want to be bothered. Best advice always be mindful when on a job that your being paid for because you never knows who’s watching.

|1.3km from city centerI was totally disappointed on this trip. I booked a Standard King room and upon entering the room noticed that it wasn’t what I reserved. I was given the keys to a King Mobility roll in shower room (Handicap) instead.
I spoke to the front desk who informed me that the 3rd party booked this evidently in error. My question was how, when my confirmation states, Standard King. 5 minutes later the front desk called and stated that there were no more Standard Kings left but they would accommodate me with a Standard Double if I like along with being offered complementary snacks since I was upset. I declined both, because
I believe after I mentioned my confirmation number they went back, checked it and realized that the mistake was on their end. I will be in contact with Trip because there was a difference in price as I also mentioned to the front desk rep as well.

|3.53km from city centerMake sure to book through a 3rd party to get cheaper rates. The rooms are not big so less luggage the better. Rooms are outdated but serve the purpose. Room has a mini refrigerator and microwave which is nice. They have a nice breakfast option of cereal, toast, bagel, waffle, muffins, fruit, coffee, orange juice, apple juice. There is an elevator available. The surrounding area has many dinner and shopping options which is really nice, some within walking distance.

|6.08km from city centerUpon check in, we found our room to reek of cigar smoke. The window was wide open, the AC set at 60 and there was some sort of tabletop fan running. We asked the front desk to switch rooms, but unfortunately the hotel was full. After trying to turn the heat on (the room was quite cold), the unit shorted out repeatedly. Again we were told there were no other rooms. Finally, we noticed a gap between the wall and the unit that was letting in cold air from the outside. We had to cover that with towels. There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang wet towels other than one small bar (the hook on the back of the bathroom door was missing). I cannot recommend this hotel.

|1.16km from city centerI stayed at this hotel to drive Uber for the weekend. It was a very, very enjoyable stay. I have anxiety and depression ( who doesn't) so I had my kitten with me and they were ok with that. I had a Dr' s note just in case. I asked them not to do any housekeeping because I had Journee in there and I was afraid she would run out and they complied, they were very pleasant people and I will definitely stay there again and I would encourage anyone to stay there if u r in the area. It's not a fancy expensive hotel, but it was clean and u get what u need and that is what it is about, somewhere to lay your head and wake up in the morning.

|3.64km from city centerWe have stayed at this hotel several times in the past & have always had a good experience. We stayed in a King Bedroom Suite w/kitchen & sofabed. The rooms were pretty quiet & which is saying a lot since I'm a very light sleeper! We went for a family trip to Busch Gardens (about 15 mins away). The room was very clean. The staff was wonderful! Every person greeted us with a smile & they were very accommodating to any request we had. Tina, with housekeeping, was incredibly sweet when she had to come to our room late at night to bring us some things. The front desk was also very friendly with every interaction. The breakfast staff were attentive & always asked if they could help us with anything as well. Breakfast is not the best, but it is good enough to get us going for the day. The staff should all be recognized for making us feel welcome & making it such an enjoyable stay.

|1.57km from city centerMy stay was quiet and that is what I was looking for. The woman at the front desk was nice when I was checking in. As far as the facilities there wasn't too many but I already knew that. The room was very clean, and when walking in smelled nice too. It's also close to a lot of convenient stores, places to eat etc. All within walking distance. Overall my stay was enjoyable.

|0.97km from city centerWe stayed here with our daughter to visit the sites in and around Newport News. The hotel was clean and the AC in both rooms worked well. Hot, hot water in the shower. Not a Hilton or Marriott, but for the price it was decent. Fridge and microwave in each room. If you book a room ask for an upstairs room. We heard our upstairs guests most of the evening.

|1.41km from city centerThis is an outdated hotel that lacks an elevator. Every floor requires the use of steps or a ramp for the basement rooms. The hotel has a musty smell. The rooms were fairly clean. It has free in-room-wifi. When we visited the area the local college was having a homecoming football weekend so all of the other well known hotels were booked. The fact we were able to book four rooms on short notice kind of tells you this is not the first choice. The cleaning staff was very accommodating. The breakfast buffet was adequate and not as many choices as you would find at other hotels. Don't use the snack vending machine! It took everyone's money without giving the snack. When I spoke to the person in charge the night it happened she was not helpful at all and asked if I could talk to the manager the next day when he came in. I was never able to speak to him because he was never there when I was so I lost my money. I heard several other similar complaints. Over all this was a very average hotel that is in dire need of upgrades.
