Disregard the negative views of this hotel or look at the dates they were written. We were there the first week in October and found the staff very friendly and informative, the bed comfortable, and the room very clean though small. Breakfast which was included included eggs, bacon, croissants, rolls, two types of bread, sliced meats, cheeses, cucumber and tomatoes, cereals, yogurt, juice, and coffee or teas. It was more than adequate and could only be small if you wanted it to be. The only drawback was the limited parking, but ask and they will direct you to a lot costing 4 Euros for 24 hours, and only 4 minutes walk away. This hotel, across from the train station, is very convenient for travelers, and also close enough to walk into the old town of Alkmaar, a delightful place. We will be going back to this hotel and town.

We arrived in Alkmaar not really knowing what to expect other than it being a rather small picturesque city ,37km north of Amsterdam. I booked a 3 night stay in the Amrath Hotel as part of a package included on the Expedia site, and found that it was within walking distance (7minutes), from the Alkmaar station which was extremely convenient as we were carrying baggage and so didn’t need to hail for a taxi. On arrival we were met by an extremely helpful young lady at the reception desk who was able to advise us on some the highlights we could expect to find in the town as well as issuing me with pocket map that she circled in biro to show our proximity from some of the major sites. Our room was on the fourth floor which was easily accessible via the lift in the main hall next to reception. The room was terrific & very spacious, it included a jacuzzi bath, large outdoor area, as well as a big sofa and two enormous flat screen TVs plus the bed was lovely and comfortable. I think it must have been a fairly quiet period (cheese festival later on in March)-as didn’t notice many other guests, but I’m sure it gets busier towards the summer months. All in all I thought it was one of cleanest and friendliest hotels I’ve stayed in, with great access to the old town and train station. Would thoroughly recommend staying at the Amrath Hotel if you’re visiting Alkmaar for a few days.

We booked for a 4 night stay in Alkmaar for July 2019. We are a family of 2 adults and one child. After booking directly on the hotel's website, I emailed to request a bed for my son. I was told that I would need to upgrade my room in order to be permitted an extra bed. So we were duly upgraded and also charged extra for my son's bed. We paid over 700 euros and this did not include breakfast. Breakfast was 14 euros extra for adults and kids ate free. We decided against paying extra for the breakfast and went to a local bakery that charged €6.50 for a sit down breakfast (tea/coffee, bread, croissants, jam, ham, cheese and butter). I think that for what they charged, they have a cheek expecting us to then pay extra for breakfast! When we arrived in our room (room 201) at approximately 1600hrs, the child bed was in the process of being made (why was it not done earlier in the day?). It was clear that the room had not been vacuumed as there was dust and bits of dirt on the floor. It finally was vacuumed 3 days later when I pestered reception about it. I stupidly assumed that the chamber maid would actually see the state of the carpet and vacuum it without prompting. Prior to arriving, I had emailed the hotel to request a kettle in our room. There was no kettle on arrival and when I asked the chambermaid, her response was "I am housekeeping and this is nothing to do with housekeeping so you will have to speak to the manager". I also asked for an extra cup as there were only two. same response again. So I went down to reception and they were helpful and brought the mug and kettle to the room. I couldn't call them as the phone in the bedroom didn't work. There was a Senseo coffee machine I the room and the chamber maid had not even noticed that there was a used coffee pad in it from the previous occupants. The chamber maid provided no coffee pads for the machine. One of the roller blinds was broken and so we could not open or close it. It was also very frayed and tatty. I reported it the next day to reception and it was replaced with a brand new one that we could open and close. There were no hooks anywhere near to the sink, so we had to hang our towel on the hairdryer cable and then realised we could use a coat hanger hung too. We were in an attic room and the velux blinds and the windows could only be opened and closed by standing on a chair. The bottom bed sheets were too short for the bed and there was about 5cm of the mattress showing at the bed head, where my pillow was. Why????? After our first night, the chambermaid removed our extra mug and left us back with two again, so I wandered off back to reception to request our mug back. Why did she feel that we were not permitted an extra mug?? Two days after our arrival, housekeeping finally decided that they would provide us with coffee pads for the coffee machine. My big concerns were a lack of fire doors. So if a fire started on one floor, it would just spread up the staircase and onto

For a motel/hotel this is great value and caters for accommodation on a budget with 8 bed dorm rooms an option. Great location just by the Cheese Market and a 10 minute stroll to the railway station. I have just booked again three double rooms for family travelling from London staying in 3 twin rooms it was cheaper than anywhere around including Airb&b. Some rooms are right in the canal, but the entire property is extremely charming.

perfect location facing the canal for this cute pretty small hotel in the center of Alkmaar. we lodged in the biggest room (duplex) under the roof, with an attic feeling, very original and unusual. room was most certainly redone not that long ago so a good new feeling overall. we had the chance to take a look at other rooms when unoccupied as doors were opened... all fresh and pretty but smaller. The good points of the stay: very good HK (room was spotless), very good breakfast (simple but plenty enough not to feel hungry-presented like a seafood platter but with BKFGST stuff obviously), mattress very recent (but a bit hard to my taste). Small things to note or to improve: no front desk! (one does everything at the Bar located at the entrance.. weird but no big deal), need of shelf in the shower for amenities, shampoo, soap... not noce to put it on the floor)... one last thing (only real negative point): the bedroom soundproofing was poor... Friday and Saturday evenings are loud in the city center with people are enjoying themselves and I would not have slept well without earplugs which I had.. otherwise very good place

Easy welcoming check- in, complete with map and directions into town and closest bus stop (right outside the hotel!), modern furnishings and comfy bed. Close to football ground (sadly closed due to repairs). Large sized rooms with lots of useful facilities such as a fridge, safe and hairdryer. Very clean and fresh towels every day. Great breakfast with lots of choice (even manages to keep the Brits happy with bacon and eggs available! :P) Spa facilities look to be in good condition and very new (we however did not use them due to them being closed when we were free) Great stay, would definitely come back.
