1.41km from De ZuidkantI had such a great experience in this hotel. I want to thank my interlocutores during the booking who were so reactive and accommodating to all my requests. Amazing customer service. I booked this hotel to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and I asked for roses on the bed and they did that. I also got a room upgrade, in fact I had booked a standard room on booking.com first but then asked the hotel to change my reservation for the day before with a correspondent room for that same price. I got one of the best rooms, so spacious and cozy. I had a jacuzzi which I enjoyed to the fullest and I felt like a queen for one night. Breakfast was also great and varied. The staff is kind and welcoming, I couldn't really ask for more and I will recommend this hotel to everyone. Moreover, I will definitely come back if I happen to stay overnight in Gent again. Danke je wel! Tot ziens
1.44km from De ZuidkantWe booked our stay at Aparthotel Castelnou as a compromise between distance from the train station and the city center and affordability and quality. As it turns out, we didn't really compromise anything, and our stay at this hotel was just about perfect. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the train station, which can seem like a much longer walk with lots of luggage, but we are accustomed to packing light, so it wasn't much of a bother. While the city center was a bit of a walk from the hotel, the streets to and from were very safe and the architecture and environs of Ghent were very entertaining and made even an accidental wrong turn not a big deal. The hotel itself was great, starting with a warm welcome from Helena at the front desk, who provided several spot-on recommendations and otherwise answered our questions with a smile. Our room was a nice size, with a separate bedroom perfect for mom and dad and a living area with a fold-out bed, TV, desk, and small kitchenette which was perfect for our small family of three. The bathroom was well-stocked and decent-sized. Breakfast was served each morning in the restaurant and was a bountiful spread of pastries, breads, cheese, teas, coffee, meats, jams, and more. We feasted each morning on the great food, and later had dinner in the restaurant, another good meal experience. When we return to Ghent, we will not hesitate to book a return stay at Aparthotel Castelnou, and recommended without reservation.
1.61km from De ZuidkantBooked this hotel as it was very reasonably priced and offered car parking. When I arrived I found it was a lot better than I had imagined. The staff were great, really friendly and helpful. The bar area was nice, the gardens were really pretty and the breakfast in the morning was very good. The bedroom was basic, but had all it needed. I liked the big windows overlooking the garden. If I am ever in Ghent again I will definitely return
2.05km from De ZuidkantI would agree to some of the earlier reviews about this accommodation. I booked this hotel without really much thought, regretfully. If I had more time, I think I would consider other accommodation in the city centre. While the lady is nice who welcomed me upon my arrival. It took awhile to ring the bell and answer though. She showed me around and let me choose a room but since there was no lift and nobody would be able to help me carry my things, I just chose the next available room which was after two flight of stairs(!). There was no breakfast provided, it was not made clear though in the booking form. Good thing there's a nearby cafe at the corner of the block (but opens around 8-9am only). In terms of cleanliness, I did not feel it was really clean. For one, the towels provided, one still had some stain... I tried to use one of the coffee cups/teacups in the common area but saw chips and stains as well. I think the worse part of my experience was the mosquitoes abound. I remember having mosquito bites on my face and upper body almost everyday. I even saw dead mosquitoes inside of the bathroom, for days (so it made me conclude that cleanliness is not the top priority). I even reported and requested to pass the message to the lady to help give me the mosquito repeller that one has to plug, but it seemed that the man totally forgot to pass the message, as when I came back to my room later that night, nowhere did I see the mosquito repeller. I must say the mosquitoes in the room (I definitely closed the windows the whole time), are really disruptive and could hear the buzzing while I was asleep too. Bed was big, ok. But the cabinet and furniture are really old but I guess it's acceptable. I really did not expect too much except for the cleanliness.
2.11km from De ZuidkantThe Librarian is an ideal spot for travelers wanting to discover the city. Visitors to Ghent will find that the Librarian is a fantastic accommodation choice. From the hotel, Train Station Sint-Pieters Ghent is just 4km away. Keeping busy is easy, with 't Toreken, City Pavilion and Stadshal all nearby. This hotel makes a great place to kick back and relax after a long day of sightseeing.
2.26km from De ZuidkantI really enjoyed my 5 nights at Casa Blanca Ghent. - The unit was spacious by European standards. - My bed was comfortable. - I could control the temperature with an in-unit thermostat - A full kitchen was included so I could cook my own meals if desired, and there was a little table with 2 chairs plus a chair for lounging. - The TV featured Netflix, which was pretty cool. - The location - near the Veergrep stop on the #1 tram line - was a 15 minute walk to the main train station and 15 minutes to downtown Ghent, with a 24/7 cafe and a grocery store nearby. - The proprietor was welcoming - Most importantly, the unit was spotless. Where I had issues: - I could not figure out how to open the door to the building on my own. A stranger took pity on me and helped me figure it out, and then the proprietor had to walk me through it later. - There is no elevator to get to the unit, which was 2 flights of stairs up. Not a huge deal, especially because the proprietor helped me carry my suitcase to my room, but be forewarned. - The stairwell at night has no lighting, which is a little dangerous. - There was handsoap but no soap or shampoo (which is typical for European properties, but again, you've been forewarned). - I also could not figure out how to get the hot water to work in the shower, which resulted in several days of cold showers, which I haaaaaaaate, until I accidentally stumbled upon the solution - if I recall correctly, the shower only generates hot water when the water pressure is high, and I was trying to keep the water pressure low to conserve water. - The window to the room kept flying open. Every night. I could not figure out how to keep the darn thing closed. This made the unit a little chilly some nights, but thankfully it was really warm the other nights. I am glad I chose to stay here, despite the mishaps. None of them prevented me from having a great time on my trip, and the pros outweighed the cons (especially at the price point). I would stay here again if I returned to Ghent.
2.29km from De ZuidkantThe hotel is small and old. The people working there where young and very polite with the visitors throughout the day. The location of the hotel is great, it’s 500 meters from the Cathedral and almost all the restaurants. It has a couple of soupermarkets nearby. It’s very quiet through the day even if it’s walls are from wood. It is cleaned daily and has good beds. As for the breakfast it’s plenty and has everything you need. The only negative is that it needs a renovation so it may may be more guest friendly. It needs more plugs and at least some cloth hangers on its walls. But I believe it’s great for your stay and is very worthy for its level.

2.3km from De ZuidkantThe breakfast is rich and the location is very close to the attractions. The rooms are small but clean and the facilities are new. The only drawback is that there is no elevator to go upstairs, and the stairs are relatively steep, which is not suitable for tourists or elderly people with large and heavy luggage. Or you can discuss whether there is a room on the first floor

2.3km from De ZuidkantHotel looked in a decent location and value when searching. Emailed them to confirm we could store bicycles and they replied immediately to advise we were welcome to use their garage. Pleasant check in, very friendly, polite staff and they provided us with a map of the city. We were in the ‘Yellow House’, next door. Secure external bathroom (if you would like internal bathroom then request at booking), no problem though. Room was clean and modern, v comfy bed and in an excellent location from the square and old city. We opted for the hotel breakfast to save faffing as were cycling on to Bruges, certainly got our monies worth for €12 - fresh baguette, fresh coffee and refills offered. Would stay again :)
2.37km from De ZuidkantPricy but from the grand entrance to the rooms and to the decor, you realize that the owners truly love what they are doing and enjoying their experience as the hosts of this charming place. We stayed at the room on the ground floor which has a private little conservatory! Everything is provided in the room (except the lighter for the beautiful large candles in the room). There are even bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer and all the toiletries. The parking isn't too far away and you can park your car at the front just to register and leave your luggage. We didn't have the breakfast there but it's available instead we walked to the corner intersection right by the bus station and had our breakfast at Tante Paula cafe. You must try the breakfast there! and say hello to the team of husband and wife and ask them who is Tante Paula?
2.38km from De ZuidkantA large family (mainly the elderly, three in their 80s, one in their 70s, and others are more than sixty) traveled together and was very lucky to choose this hotel, right next to Buff Cathedral. Kneeling, not far from the clock tower, is squatting. Of course, Ghent is not big, small and exquisite, simple and profound. The two sides of the river are the scenery and feelings of being intoxicated. By the way, I went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch and dinner, called Jin Jiang Hotel. Haha, there are a lot of snacks next to the hotel. The breakfast is not in the hotel. It is not far from the small cafe. It opens at 7:00. However, most of them are open after 8:30. Very satisfied with a stay. The picture on the roof in the photo is looking out of the room.

2.39km from De ZuidkantWe were very pleased to have chosen Ibis Budget. The hotel was easy to get to from the main access road to Ghent and was short walking distance away from the historic town centre. I have emailed ahead enquiring about the parking procedure and we have parked outside while checking in and collecting the key card for the car park which was very good value for money at £10 per night. We were even able to park a bit longer after check out after paying additional £5. It is worth doing since parking is expensive in Ghent (free street parking on Sunday). Staff at reception was brilliant, two young ladies couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. We got equipped with city maps and got given a lot of useful info where and what to eat (traditional Ghent stew – waterzooi – is a must) and what to sea. Room was of good size and had everything we needed, comfy bed, air con, small seating area and a hairdryer in the bathroom. We were at the back of the hotel so we didn’t get bothered by the traffic noise and the ongoing roadworks. Breakfast was great, there was a big choice of pastries, breads, some cold meets, cheeses, cereals and fruit. Would definitely return if visiting Ghent again.
Hotels Near De Zuidkant In Ghent Review
Our travel agent suggested this hotel and we're so glad she did. We asked for accommodations near the city center and honestly, we couldn't have been better situated. The property is elegant, clean, and comfortable. When we checked in, Natalie was incredibly helpful. We requested an upgrade which she provide at no additional cost and our corner room was perfect. Huge walk-in closet, luxurious bath tub and thoughtful touches - hand lotion, fluffy robes, complimentary water - throughout. Natalie also gave us a list of her favorite restaurants and chocolate shops. The bartender was a jewel. She offered sound advice regarding New Year's Eve in the city and even better service while we relaxed in the bar. We enjoyed hot carrot soup and cold beer after a touristy day... perfection! The breakfast buffet was extensive, well-presented and replenished often - absolutely book with breakfast included. A delightful surprise was the large Christmas market across the street from the hotel! We love a market and this one didn't disappoint. We would absolutely stay at Nh Gent Belfort on our next visit to this charming city.
Friendly and efficient staff. Large, clean rooms. Very quiet.. And they have tbought of everything you might need: coat hooks, lots of closet space with padded hangers, sofa, reading lamps, adjustable bedside lights, etcetc. And we had a balcony with chairs and table. Good breakfast with lots of choices. Two restaurants, beautiful lounge with sofas.
So I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Gent Expo as I visited Gent for one day. There were things we liked and disliked. What I liked was the location. It's indeed close to the Gent Expo and a tram stop. Plus, a taxi from the center of Gent to the hotel will not set you back more than 25 euros. Furthermore, the staff at the reception was friendly and more than willing to give some tips as to how to go to the city centre and back. The breakfast offered plenty of choice in a big enough atrium. We did not have dinner in the atrium but if it is dark outside one might perhaps even been able to see the stars. The overall atmosphere, layout of the hotel, furbishment and looks, however, feel a bit old-fashionned, like a past glory. 20 years ago it would have been up to standard but now it just felt a bit old. Old does not imply bad though because the rooms were spacious and clean enough. If you take into account the above and look at the room rate of more than 110 euros for one night for two persons including breakfast than I unfortunately come to the conclusion that you can get a better deal in the Gent error. As indicated, the hotel is fine to stay some nights in but the price is just a bit too steep in my opinion for what you get.
This is more like a business hotel situated right in the centre of the old town. The hotel interior is very modern and clean with the old building frontage on the canal. The room was excellent, large clean and quiet – but a shower over the bath is a negative point. Has its own parking garage – a bit low in places 1.70 m. and €40 per day, which it probably o.k. given that you just leave the car and wander around the town. The staff (especially at the breakfast) were really friendly and helpful. The quality and variety of the breakfast was very good (including a glass of Cava if you fancied it), but the breakfast dining rooms are cramped and it could be very busy if the hotel is heavily booked. We were lucky to be helped by a lovely lady working at breakfast time. Did not try the restaurant – seemed a bit pricey. Nice bar area - although you would not describe it as cosy - with a pianist on the Friday that we stayed there. The bar snacks were quite nice Not a cheap option, but the location and facilities are just about worth the money
Although it is slightly outside of the city centre, this charming little hotel is well worth booking. It has an elegant serene air about it and the host and staff are most welcoming. Our room (6) was spacious, quirky and most peaceful. The bed was comfortable and the tea/coffee making facilities most welcoming. We walked into the centre just before dusk and witnessed the magical transformation of the clever lighting illuminating the many stunning buildings. Ghent is breathtaking and although we stayed only one night, it’s a stay we shall remember for a very long time.
Friendly and helpful staff, but pretty much the worst hotel I have visited in the Gent area. I have put 4 stars as otherwise it will not show the review on the home page. The wifi is non existent unless you are in the main part of the hotel, but the rooms i stayed in the main part of the hotel are very outdated and not very clean. I changed rooms 3 times, once for no wifi coverage, the second was tiny and grubby, and the 3rd had no carpet and just bare old floorboards that had not been sanded or cleaned in 20 years. The wood floor was black with dirt in places and the boards moved and were full of splinters. The "gym" was a death trap, the bench collapsed when you tried to sit on it, the running machine needed a magnet key from reception but the motor was so burned out you had to step off it while it spun up. It had not been cleaned in years and was a model from the 1990's, as was the exercise bike. The room was basically an old store room in the basement and the ceiling was not high enough to work with weights or even stretch above your head. The gym room was full of old beds and chairs and smelled badly. There was a sauna available, but to use it costs 10 euros, which is an insane price for something you might use for 30 mins. The breakfast is very limited and having spent many weeks in the Tower Hotel in Aalst, which is the same company, the difference is huge. I was expecting a similar breakfast to the Aalst hotel, but the breakfast in the Gravensteen had hardly any choice and of low quality. Considering the price they charge for it, not worth it at all. The fault is not the staff as they were friendly and helpful. The hotel looks like it has not had any investment for 20 years and while once it was probably very lush, they have just kept it running on a shoestring for the last 20 years. You can see that the carpet has been removed in some areas (bedroom and main stairs) instead of replacing it. The location is good for the city I guess, and really the best part of the hotel was the amusing cat that hangs around reception and is friendly to guests. But I will be requesting to my company that I am not sent there again.
