|4.86km from city centerWe ended up here in the late afternoon of very long day of trying to get back home, after an otherwise great 5 days in Charleston. Our extended family of 6 had our flight delayed 5 hours, then until the following day, so we were eager to get off our feet and settled somewhere near the airport until the next morning. We were incredibly fortunate to walk through the doors here and meet Joy, who quickly found us three rooms on a moment’s notice. She went out of her way to make our experience by the best part of a tiring, stressful day, and even found us a larger suite where our two young kids could have their own room. There were plenty of dining options around, including within walking distance, which we took advantage of. There’s also a shuttle to the airport that will also make local trips to other restaurants/destinations. We didn’t end up needing it to get to dinner, but had already returned our rental car, so if we had it would have been a huge help. There was also a wine & cheese social hour happening in the lobby when we got back from an early dinner, which was a pleasant surprise. If I needed to stay close to the airport again in the future, either as a family or on business travel, this would be the place. Thanks again to Joy in particular, for completely turning a difficult travel day around!

|11.46km from city centerI started staying at this hotel in 2007 and it has been my hotel of choice whenever I visit Charleston, SC. I retired in 2016 and haven't traveled much in the past 6 years. I had the occasion to attend a show in Charleston, SC on September 23, 2022, and I made my reservation here. Prior to my check-in date I called the hotel and Richard answered and remembered exactly who I was. That really impressed me. On my check-in day of September 23, 2022, I was greeted in the lobby by Richard and the owner John. They were both very pleasant as always. This will be my hotel of choice on my next visit. I would without a doubt recommend Econo Lodge North. Thank you, Richard & John.

|11.15km from city centerThe location of the facility didn’t look like it was in the best neighborhood and if you’ve never been then you wouldn’t know when you booked it. It was clean, however, the bathroom could have been updated w caulking and a little cleaner, there was black around the edges of the tub. The breakfast of coffee, bagels and danishes were the norm for an included breakfast. I paid a higher rate thinking it was a smoking room as the others were listed as nonsmoking but found out the whole establishment is nonsmoking so I lost money there!! Somehow that should have been disclosed.

The morning breakfast was abundant and satisfying. Of particular note was the friendliness of both the evening and day reception clerks. The day clerk, Jean was extremely helpful when we asked her what she would recommend seeing in Charleston. She provided us with a map along with taking the time to show us several points of interest. We followed her recommendations and had a wonderful afternoon exploring and enjoying the historic district of Charleston. This was our first time staying at a Holiday Inn. We were truly impressed.

First ,the fire alarm went off early am----there were no employees to direct or address the issue. Nonchalantly, someone said it was the toast burning. No fire alarm in the room, hardly any breakfast (bread and coffee). --Upon check-out, our concerns were voiced and the female ”employee” argued back and forth with the guests. We asked for the manager. An employee said the manager's name is ”KA” . The ”manager” arrived angry and uptight. He gave no resolution and licked out his tongue and hurled out insults (*****es). We left- and someone from the hotel property called and identified himself as ”Bob”. ”Bob”- offered no consolation that we wanted to accept.----he got angry and made sexually explicit comments over the phone------to be further pursued........... What entity is running this hotel brand that provides sub par services and insult its customers and seemingly gets away with it??? How is this allowed?????? What kind of cartel is this?????? The CHOICE hotel brand is not worth spending a dime on. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!

We felt welcome every time we walked in the door. When we were leaving the lady cleaning up the breakfast area asked if she could get us some muffins from the kitchen… an hour after it was closed. |11.85km from city centerDO NOT STAY HERE!! Hotel isn't any better than a Motel-6! Certainly not up to Marriott Standards!! (and I'm Platinum...so I know a few things about Marriott properties) Marriott should pull it's name from this place! Overall (on a total of 10-star rating), this place is a 2-star hotel, trying to be a 3-star and pretending to be a 4-star through it's on-line ratings! The Pool is ice-cold (no heater) and the size of a large bath-tub. The rooms don't get cleaned (seriously...we stayed for 5 days, never so much as a vacuum, we started taking out our own trash!). In-Room fridge shuts off every 2 hours (so nothing stays cold, and it smells...and they're designed to do this!). Breakfast was okay, until the last day when they didn't even bother putting out anything but bread and oatmeal (presumably to save costs, as they were very full). Fruit was always spoiled as well. They couldn't even leave coffee and tea out after 10am, but they claim to be 4-stars? Really? Even the walls were marked with scuff-marks and white-plaster throughout the place! And we stayed in more than 1 room which is more than most people see! Pro's: The shower was hot, the pull-out couch was a bonus (even if it was so uncomfortable people just slept on the couch cushions), rooms were overall spacious and the heater & A/C worked well. TV's worked well, and we were even able to sign into our netflix, but even these weren't enough to bring up my overall rating! The ONLY thing good about this hotel was the staff! Sincerely, they were generally friendly and helpful depending on who you talked to....but I'd never subject my family to staying here again! If I hadn't booked on-line for the whole time, we'd have moved hotels!

|11.27km from city centerWe stayed three nights in October for an event I hosted (EVENT STAFF COULD NOT BE MORE OUTSTANDING), but this is for the room/staff. We stayed in a suite - always ask for the opposite side of the interstate, as it is very loud on the ”even side”, especially if you have any sleep issues. Could it be updated some? Sure. We came back for a night in November on family business. Stayed in an odd-numbered room and it was decidedly quieter. They need better trashcans in the rooms. Seriously, the one they had in the main room is no bigger than a stand up desk file box. The hotel employee that I was disappointed in was Gwen at the front desk. Not friendly, not attentive, not in a hurry. After the first visit my husband had left something, and I thought I ha. Until we made reservations for the second visit, my husband did not realize that that's where he left his cane. He gave them a call, they went right to it, and it was waiting at the desk with his name on when we checked in. What I thought I lost was a necklace we had brought to town to take to the jeweler, but a family emergency prevented that (we lived in the area until last year so it was a trip ”home”). I asked Gwen to check on it. SEVERAL times I had to explain exactly what it was - a broken gold necklace with 4 small beads - how exact is that?) She shuffled around and acted like I was crazy to even ask about it. I explained the situation several more times - she wanted the reservation number I had been under because supposedly that was the only way anyone could look for it. I didn't have the number, but had the dates. She was surly about it. FINALLY she said she'd call upstairs to the lost and found and I could have a seat. It took about an hour for anyone from ”there” to come down, and I finally had to crowd the desk for her to call them. Hearing the way she was referencing my claim was like she was just humoring me, and I might be scamming her. How many people come looking for a broken piece of jewelry, and how hard is it to see if they have it? That could have been a misunderstanding of her motives by me, but based on how she was at check-in both visits and how I saw her similarly relate to other customers, I felt she was not into her job. I won't let that keep me from staying there again, though. The great experience I had with the event staff bought them some loyalty from me. I will say kudos for having gluten free cookies - wish they could be warm, but know that's impossible.

The rooms are super clean and very spacious the GM mark is very friendly and always ready to help out when he can. Brittany is a sweetheart southern girl who's super sweet and nice and willing to make sure she has you amenities for you rm no matter if she gotta stop and help wash dishes or laundry one heck of a gal Diamond is also another sweetheart always will to help with anything you need and makes sure your stay is the best. Arkez is one heck of a young man always on top of his job and makes sure you vist is the best and if u need anything for your room he's on top of it. So all in all this is one heck of a place to stay and I've definitely recommend to many of my friends and family to come stay here when they need a place to stay especially cause the beds and pillows are too notch comfortable.

|11.59km from city centerI would say avoid this place at all costs. I arrived at the hotel, I would say between 10 and 11 PM and as I entered the lobby there was a stale musty skunk smell. I had booked a king non-smoking and when I got to the desk they switch me to 2 Queens. So the laundry was on the way so I stopped there first. I spent about 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes doing laundry. I then went over to the room and the moment I walked in the room I could tell it was dirty, really dirty! There was two queen beds against the wall barely enough room to walk to the bathroom. They had a futon in the middle of the room which was really hard to get around so I guess the room was supposed to sleep six people. It seem more like a spring break place. The room had two TVs and neither one of them worked. The towels were white but they look like they had been used in a mechanic shop because they were black stains in all of the towels. I also noticed there were several cups Of some kind of black liquid left on top of the refrigerator. I assume from the previous guests. I didn’t even stay in the room. When I went back up front to the desk it was pretty late after midnight and I could not find anybody. I then got in my vehicle and left. I booked this through the Wyndham‘s app and I notified them of my stay and how bad it was. I told them that I wanted to request a refund. Today I noticed I received an email I believe it was from someone from that specific hotel. They gave me the gibberish about oh you only had 30 minutes to decide if you wanted to stay or not and we can’t refund your money. That would’ve been nice but I didn’t get into the room until at least an hour and a half after I checked in. Then when I did go back up to the front desk there’s no one around. To be honest the clerk told me when I checked in that there had been people living there for 2 to 3 years so I’m believing that this might be a section 8 hotel but I really don’t know. What I do know is I’ve been driving a truck for 37 years and this is absolutely the most disgusting place I’ve ever seen. For your own health and safety I would not recommend this place at all. You’d be better getting a couple of blankets and sleeping up under a bridge.

I told him about a bad hotel, stay in a different city, because of highway traffic noise and when we realized my room was near the road, he went out of the way to help me fix it. He even let me view the new room before we switched my room and brought the room keys to me. I never felt like a burden and he always had a smile. He was so positive and kind. The hotel and the rooms were clean and comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again.

|3.78km from city centerI stayed here two nights in June 2022. A Thursday and Monday. The weekend rates more than doubled and was out of my budget so did not sleep there Friday and Saturday. The staff was friendly, and helpful with questions to get to the beaches. The breakfast was good, though they were out of orange juice one morning, and struggled to keep up with the demand for eggs, plastic ware and muffins. The food itself was good and many people were there. Ice machine on 2nd and 3rd floor worked great. 1st floor was out. Has elevator, and stairs are easy to use. The rooms were very comfortable, the WIFI worked as long as you were checked in. I stayed in lobby a little after checking out, but my wifi password would no longer work. The pool was cold. I tried to get in, but couldn't force myself. That is the only negative i found about the hotel itself. Not enough to reduce my rating. I don't stay in a lot of high end hotels, so rating is for hotels in this price range. It was close to highway, but you couldn't hear traffic. There is an econolodge right behind the property, and a few homeless wander the area a bit. I found a homeless person sitting beside this hotel when I came in one afternoon, but he was gone when i got back by evening. I suspect they typically hang out by the econolodge, but my vehicle was never bothered. It is a non-smoking hotel and you can tell. It was wonderful to not have the sprays that try to hide smoke smell. very happy with my stay here. I felt safe all the time i was there and would gladly stay there again.

The pool was a nice spot to relax and my daughter had a great time swimming. Outlet stores are directly across the street and lots of quick food options. Easy commute into Charleston and folly beach area. The room was nice, beds were fairly comfortable, not the best hotel mattress I’ve ever slept on. The bathroom is the only negative. Unlike the rest of the room it had this poorly fitted drop ceiling that was starting to rust from the poor ventilation. There was also a wire rack shelf in the shower that was mostly rusted over, not the kind of place you want to rest you bar of soap.

On our second day my companion asked a Housekeeper on our floor if we could get some extra large towels she said she would bring them to our room. We never received them, but when my companion went out to get ice the same housekeeper stopped her, and said I told you I would get you the towels. I am a little concerned with this behavior because we have never received it from any other chain. I understand that some people find mixed race couples offensive, however I was always taught to leave personal predigests at home when I go to work.

Clean and a comfortable mattress. Fridge microwave and a bathtub. The door closers were decent so no slamming noises. The walls were a bit thin so you'll hear your neighbors easily. Breakfast was decent and a nice selection. It is convenient to the airport so you will hear planes. Decently close to shopping and food. Price was reasonable. As I mentioned, the neighborhood isn't the best. With surrounding hotels housing some undesirables.

|4.08km from city centerI had to ask for room changes 3 times by the time I checked in. First room smelled like eggs, second room had a couch/bench with stains in it. I asked Kendra for a room change the second time because the room was dirty and I didn’t feel comfortable staying in that room. The third room, she let me take a look at the room before agreeing to it. I scanned the room and found it relatively clean so I took the room. As I was settling in, I dropped my phone by the bed and nightstand and when I went to pick up my phone, I saw that there was a lot of debris, and there was more of it under the bench. There was also a plastic packaging for something, must’ve been left behind by the previous guest and wasn’t cleaned up. The bathroom toilet paper holder was also broken but I wasn’t able to discern that just by looking at it. When I spoke with Marriott’s customer service representative, Jane, I was told that I shouldn’t tell people that the room is fine and then change my mind and complain. There’s nothing that Marriott can do since I booked the reservation using a third-party website that offered military discounts, but the rooms should be clean regardless of what method of reservation anyone uses. I wasn’t under the impression that I needed to thoroughly investigate if the room I was in had been cleaned properly upon my arrival. Not sure how this is following Marriott International’s Commitment to Clean. As I’m writing this in the very room that I complained about, I’m also seeing webs in the corners of the ceilings. The room is disappointing but the manner in which Marriott and its associates addressed the situation is even more appalling. We will not be staying with Marriott in the future and encourage others to seek better accommodations when visiting the area.

|3.9km from city centerI was talking to the reservation phone center when they recommended this hotel. I was 3 blocks away when they mentioned it, so drove to the location as we talked. I had stayed a different hotel 3 blocks away the night before but couldn't get a reservation for this particular night, so was familiar with the area. Though many hotels in the area look very safe, when I pulled into the lot, there were a group of young men partying in the parking lot by a pick up truck... and the other side of the parking lot was empty, which was odd given the other hotels in the area. As I drove the parking lot, i sensed there was something wrong, and didn't feel safe so told the reservation person that I was not interested in staying at this location. She charged my card anyway. In the middle of the night, i got a call from someone at the hotel asking me when I was going to arrive, and I told them I should not have had a reservation there at all. She said that the reservation had been confirmed, even though i know it was not. I contacted Days Inn corporate as advised by the hotel management, but they have not returned my request. I have protested the charge on my credit card. Anyone takes the 3 minutes to listen to the call recording, which you know they record, will hear me say I did NOT want to stay there and the agent clearly says she will cancel the request. I was told that I would have the opportunity to confirm the reservation after she had all of my information, so I was buying time while I drove, but I would never trust another wyndham's agent again. It is cheaper to reserve on the phone, but when the agents are dishonest and will charge your card even if you don't want to make a reservation, that's a scam. This hotel looks seedy from the outside, and had almost no cars in the lot on a night other hotels were full. Though they advertise a rate in the $85 range, they charged me $150. I slept in my car that night in the hotel lot I had stayed at the previous night because I was tired of calling all these reservation desks only to have them just want my info before finding a hotel. They are just interested in your card info so they can bill you whatever they want, and you have no control over it. I have yet to see if corporate will stand up to their reputation. Still was probably a better night than this place given what I saw and the reviews here. But they ripped me off.
